Abstract:We compute the form factors of the order and disorder operators, together with those of the stress-energy tensor, of the two-dimensional three-state Potts model with vacancies along its thermal deformation of the critical point. At criticality the model is described by the non-diagonal partition function of the unitary minimal model $\mathcal{M}_{6,7}$ of conformal field theories and is accompanied by an internal $S_3$ symmetry. Its off-critical thermal deformation is an integrable massive theory which is still invariant under $S_3$. The presence of infinitely many conserved quantities, whose spin spectrum is related to the exceptional Lie algebra $E_6$, allows us to determine the analytic $S$-matrix, the exact mass spectrum and the matrix elements of local operators of this model in an exact non-perturbative way. We use the spectral representation series of the correlators and the fast convergence of these series to compute several universal ratios of the renormalization group.

Dynamical critical behavior of the two-dimensional three-state Potts model

Abstract:We investigate the dynamical critical behavior of the two-dimensional three-state Potts model with single spin-flip dynamics in equilibrium. We focus on the mean-squared deviation of the magnetization $M$ (MSD$_{M}$) as a function of time, as well as on the autocorrelation function of $M$. Our simulations reveal the existence of two crossover behaviors at times $\tau_1 \sim L^{z_1}$ and $\tau_2 \sim L^{z_2}$, separating three dynamical regimes. MSD$_{M}$ appears to shift from ordinary diffusion in the first regime, to anomalous diffusion in the second, and finally to be constant in the third regime. The magnetization autocorrelation function on the other hand is found to fluctuate between exponential decay, stretched-exponential decay, and then again exponential decay along these three regimes. This behavior is in agreement with the one reported recently for the two-dimensional Ising ferromagnet [Phys. Rev. E {\bf 108}, 034118 (2023)], indicating that the existence of two dynamic critical exponents is not a peculiarity of the Ising model itself. A comparison of both MSD$_{M}$ and the magnetization's autocorrelation function suggests that within our numerical accuracy the exponents $z_1$ and $z_2$ are shared between the Ising and three-state Potts models at least for the particular case of single spin-flip dynamics studied here, even though their equilibrium universality classes are clearly distinct. Continuity of MSD$_{M}$ requires that $\alpha (z_2 - z_1) = \gamma/\nu - z_1$, in which $\alpha$ is the anomalous exponent in the intermediate regime. Since the ratio $\gamma/\nu$ is not shared between the two models, it follows that $\alpha$ is not shared either, an aspect well verified in our simulations. Finally, we also discuss the relevance of our main findings using another useful observable, namely the line magnetization $M_{l}$.

Abstract:The two-dimensional Q -state Potts model with real couplings has a first-order transition for Q>4 . We study a loop-model realization in which Q is a continuous parameter. This model allows for the collision of a critical and a tricritical fixed point at Q=4 , which then emerge as complex conformally invariant theories at Q>4 , or even complex Q , for suitable complex coupling constants. All critical exponents can be obtained as analytic continuation of known exact results for Q≤4 . Abstract:We exploit the identification between the critical theory of the 3-state Potts model and the D_5 conformal model. This allows us to determine all 3-point correlations involving the fields associated with the Potts order parameter and the energy density. The calculation uses screened Coulomb gas correlations. The Z_3 symmetry of the 3-state Potts model is manifestly preserved.

Abstract:We present extensive numerical simulations of a family of non-equilibrium Potts models with absorbing states that allows for a variety of scenarios, depending on the number of spin states and the range of the spin-spin interactions. These scenarios encompass a voter critical point, a discontinuous transition as well as the presence of both a symmetry-breaking phase transition and an absorbing phase transition. While we also investigate standard steady-state quantities, our emphasis is on time-dependent quantities that provide insights into the transient properties of the models.

Abstract:Using Monte Carlo simulations in the frame of stochastic series expansion (SSE), we study the three-state quantum Potts model. The cluster algorithm we used is a direct generalization of that for the quantum Ising model. The simulations include the one dimensional and two dimensional ferromagnetic three-state quantum Potts model and the two dimensional antiferromagnetic three-state quantum Potts model. Our results show that the phase transition of the one dimensional ferromagnetic quantum Potts model belongs to the same universality class of the two dimensional classical Potts model, the two dimensional ferromagnetic quantum Potts model undergoes a first order transition, which is also in analogy to its classical correspondence. The phase transition of the antiferromagnetic quantum Potts model is continuous, whose universality class belongs to the three-dimensional classical XY model, owing to an `emergent' O(2) symmetry at the critical point, although its ordered phase breaks the Z_6 symmetry.

Abstract:We consider the q=4 Potts model on the square lattice with an additional hard-core nonlocal interaction. That interaction arises from the choice of the reference measure taken to be the uniform measure on the recurrent configurations for the abelian sandpile model. In that reference measure some correlation functions have a power-law decay. We investigate the low-temperature phase diagram and we prove the existence of a single stable phase with exponential decay of correlations. For all boundary conditions the density of 4 in the infinite volume limit goes to one as the temperature tends to zero.

Abstract:The short-time dynamics of the three-dimensional bond-diluted 4-state Potts model is investigated with Monte Carlo simulations. A recently suggested nonequilibrium reweighting method is applied, and the tricritical point is determined with the short-time dynamic approach. Based on the dynamic scaling form, both the dynamic and static critical exponents are estimated for the second order phase transition. Dynamic corrections to scaling are carefully considered.

Abstract:In this paper, we thoroughly analyze the energy landscape of the Curie-Weiss-Potts model, which is a ferromagnetic spin system consisting of q $\ge$ 3 spins defined on complete graphs. In particular, for the Curie-Weiss-Potts model with q $\ge$ 3 spins and zero external field, we completely characterize all critical temperatures and phase transitions in view of the global structure of the energy landscape. We observe that there are three critical temperatures and four different regimes for q < 5, whereas there are four critical temperatures and five different regimes for q $\ge$ 5. Our analysis extends the investigations performed in [M. Costeniuc, R. S. Ellis, H. Touchette: J. Math. Phys (2005)]; they provide the precise characterization of the second critical temperatures for all q $\ge$ 3 and in [Landim and Seo: J. Stat. Phys. (2016)], which provides a complete analysis of the energy landscape for q = 3. Based on our precise analysis of the energy landscape, we also perform a quantitative investigation of the metastable behavior of the heat-bath Glauber dynamics associated with the Curie-Weiss-Potts model.

Abstract:This research provides a examination of transitions within the various-state Potts model in two-dimensional finite-size lattices. Leveraging the Wang–Landau sampling and parallel tempering, we systematically obtain the density of states, facilitating a comprehensive comparative analysis of the results. The determination of the third-order transitions location are achieved through a meticulous examination of the density of states using microcanonical inflection-point analysis. The remarkable alignment between canonical and microcanonical results for higher-order transition locations affirms the universality of these transitions. Our results further illustrate the universality of the robust and microcanonical inflection-point analysis of Wang–Landau sampling.

The two upper critical dimensions of the Ising and Potts models

Abstract:We derive the exact actions of the $Q$-state Potts model valid on any graph, first for the spin degrees of freedom, and second for the Fortuin-Kasteleyn clusters. In both cases the field is a traceless $Q$-component scalar field $\Phi^\alpha$. For the Ising model ($Q=2$), the field theory for the spins has upper critical dimension $d_{\rm c}^{\rm spin}=4$, whereas for the clusters it has $d_{\rm c}^{\rm cluster}=6$. As a consequence, the probability for three points to be in the same cluster is not given by mean-field theory for $d$ within $4<d<6$. We estimate the associated universal structure constant as $C=\sqrt{6-d}+ {\cal O}(6-d)^{3/2}$. This shows that some observables in the Ising model have an upper critical dimension of 4, while others have an upper critical dimension of $6$. Combining perturbative results from the $\epsilon=6-d$ expansion with a non-perturbative treatment close to dimension $d=4$ allows us to locate the shape of the critical domain of the Potts model in the whole $(Q,d)$ plane.

Entropy-Induced Phase Transitions in a Hidden Potts Model

Abstract:A hidden state in which a spin does not interact with any other spin contributes to the entropy of an interacting spin system. Using the Ginzburg-Landau formalism in the mean-field limit, we explore the $q$-state Potts model with extra $r$ hidden states. We analytically demonstrate that when $1 < q \le 2$, the model exhibits a rich phase diagram comprising a variety of phase transitions such as continuous, discontinuous, two types of hybrids, and two consecutive second- and first-order transitions; moreover, several characteristics such as critical, critical endpoint, and tricritical point are identified. The critical line and critical end lines merge in a singular form at the tricritical point. Those complex critical behaviors are not wholly detected in previous research because the research is implemented only numerically. We microscopically investigate the origin of the discontinuous transition; it is induced by the competition between the interaction and entropy of the system in the Ising limit, whereas by the bi-stability of the hidden spin states in the percolation limit. Finally, we discuss the potential applications of the hidden Potts model to social opinion formation with shy voters and the percolation in interdependent networks.

Non compact continuum limit of two coupled Potts models

Abstract:We study two $Q$-state Potts models coupled by the product of their energy operators, in the regime $2 < Q \le 4$ where the coupling is relevant. A particular choice of weights on the square lattice is shown to be equivalent to the integrable $a_3^{(2)}$ vertex model. It corresponds to a selfdual system of two antiferromagnetic Potts models, coupled ferromagnetically. We derive the Bethe Ansatz equations and study them numerically for two arbitrary twist angles. The continuum limit is shown to involve two compact bosons and one non compact boson, with discrete states emerging from the continuum at appropriate twists. The non compact boson entails strong logarithmic corrections to the finite-size behaviour of the scaling levels, the understanding of which allows us to correct an earlier proposal for some of the critical exponents. In particular, we infer the full set of magnetic scaling dimensions (watermelon operators) of the Potts model.

Abstract:We discuss the critical behaviour of 2D Ising and q-states Potts models coupled by their energy density. We found new tricritical points. The procedure employed is the renormalisation approach of the perturbations series around conformal field theories representing pure models as already used for disordered spins models. This analysis could be useful to understand the physics of coupled critical models like the fully frustrated XY model.

Abstract:We solve the q-state Potts model with anti-ferromagnetic interactions on large random lattices of finite coordination. Due to the frustration induced by the large loops and to the local tree-like structure of the lattice this model behaves as a mean field spin glass. We use the cavity method to compute the temperature-coordination phase diagram and to determine the location of the dynamic and static glass transitions, and of the Gardner instability. We show that for q>=4 the model possesses a phenomenology similar to the one observed in structural glasses. We also illustrate the links between the positive and the zero-temperature cavity approaches, and discuss the consequences for the coloring of random graphs. In particular we argue that in the colorable region the one-step replica symmetry breaking solution is stable towards more steps of replica symmetry breaking.
