Abstract:Longidorus juglanssp. nov. is a new needle nematode detected from the rhizosphere of a walnut tree in Shanxi Province, P.R. China. It was distinguished by female body length of 3.9-5.2 mm; lip region 14-18 μm wide, rounded and continuous, amphidial fovea pocket-shaped without distinct basal lobes; moderately long odontostyle (125-140 μm); guide ring at mid-odontostyle and situated 69-78 μm from anterior end; short and blunt conoid tail (30-41 μm long, c = 118-147, c′ = 0.6-0.9), bearing 2-3 caudal pores on each side. The male ofL. juglanssp. nov. is 5.1 mm long, with 13 ventro-median supplements, a short and blunt conoid tail bearing 3-4 caudal pores on each side, and spicules 73 μm long. Three developmental juvenile stages were recognised. This new species is very similar to another Chinese speciesL. fangiin general morphology, but can be distinguished by the number of juvenile stages and DNA sequences of SSU, ITS1, ITS2 and D2-D3 of LSU rDNA. Morphological and molecular characterisation was provided forL. fangirepresenting two new geographical records. The phylogenetic relationships among these species were analysed using data from SSU, D2-D3 of LSU, ITS1 and ITS2 rDNA, which revealed thatL. juglanssp. nov. andL. fangiwere clustered together withL. diadecturus,L. litchiiandL. jonesiwhose guide ring is located at mid-odontostyle level.

Abstract:A new species of inquiline, Lithosaphonecrus edurus Fang, Melika, and Tang, new species (Hymenoptera: Cynipidae: Synergini) is described from Emeishan, Sichuan Province, China. Lithosaphonecrus edurus is associated with an as yet undetermined cynipid gall on Lithocarpus cleistocarpus var. cleistocarpus and var. omeiensis, L. hancei and L. megalophyllus (Fagaceae). Description, diagnosis, phenology, and host association for the new species are given. The new species is supported by morphological and molecular data.

Abstract:Gaurenoglaea is a genus belonging to the tribe Xylenini. Since its establishment more than ten years ago, this genus has included only two species.A new species of the genus Gaurenoglaea Ronkay, Ronkay, Gyulai & Hacker, 2010, G. medogensis sp. nov. is described and illustrated from Xizang Autonomous Region, south-western China. The new species can be distinguished from the previous Gaurenoglaea species by the differences of forewing cilia and aedeagus. A key to the Gaurenoglaea species, based on morphology, is provided.

Abstract:The tribe Xylenini is one of the main large taxonomic groups known as Winter Noctuidae.A new species of the genus Antivaleria Sugi, 1980, Antivaleria ronkayorum Zhang & Wang, sp. nov. is described and illustrated from Zhejiang Prov., China. The species resembles Antivaleria peregovitsi Ronkay et al., 2010, but differs in wing pattern, foot-like cucullus and special shape of harpe. A key to the Antivaleria species is presented. The holotype is deposited in the Department of Entomology, College of Plant Protection, South China Agricultural University, Guangzhou.

Abstract:A new species, Smilax weniae (Smilacaceae), from Southwest China, is described and illustrated. The new species bears peltate leaves, which was previously a unique feature of S. luei. However, it differs from the latter by having a broad ovate leaf blade, longer peduncle, and sexual dimorphic flowers. Further phylogenetic analyses revealed that the new species were placed in a unique position in a subclade of Old World Smilax based on ptDNA and nrITS sequences. Combining detailed morphological comparisons and molecular evidence, we validated that S. weniae is an undescribed new species. Moreover, the plastome characteristics of S. weniae are reported.

Abstract:This study describes a new species of the genus Leptobrachella, Leptobrachella suiyangensis sp. nov. from the Huoqiuba Nature Reserve, Suiyang County, Guizhou Province, China, based on morphological data and phylogenetic analyses (16S rRNA mtDNA). The new species can be distinguished from other congeners by the molecular divergence and by a combination of morphological characters, including body size, dorsal and ventral patterns, dorsal skin texture, size of the pectoral and femoral glands, degree of webbing and fringing on the toes and fingers, dorsum coloration, and iris coloration in life. Currently, the genus Leptobrachella contains 75 species, 21 of which are found in China, including seven species reported from Guizhou Province. The uncorrected sequence divergence percentage between Leptobrachella suiyangensis sp. nov. and all homologous DNA sequences available for the 16S rRNA gene was found to be >4.7%. The new record of the species and its relationships with others in the same genus imply that species distribution, habitat variation, environmental adaptation, and diversity of the genus Leptobrachella in southwest China need to be further investigated.

Abstract:Four species from Galongla Snow Mountain, southeastern Tibet of China are revealed as members of the genus Scoparia by combining DNA barcoding (658 bp of the mitochondrial gene cytochrome c oxidase subunit I, COI) and morphological characters. Three species are described as new to science: S. varians Li, sp. nov., S. nussi Li, sp. nov. and S. lii Li, sp. nov. The female of S. simplicissima Li is described for the first time. All species are described and illustrated, including the habitat, characters of intraspecific variability and sexual dimorphism. A map showing the localities on the Tibetan Plateau, where more than 40% of Chinese Scoparia species are endemic, is also provided. The results suggest the genus Scoparia has high species diversity on the Tibetan Plateau and may exhibit potential for specific adaptation to high plateau environments.

Abstract:We describe Odorrana liboensis sp. nov., a new species from the Maolan National Nature Reserve, Libo County, Guizhou Province, China. Phylogenetic analyses based on DNA sequences of the mitochondrial 12S rRNA, 16S rRNA, and ND2 genes supported the new species as an independent lineage, closely related to O. lipuensis. The uncorrected genetic distances between the 12S rRNA and 16S rRNA in the new species and its closest congener, O. lipuensis, were 6.06% and 5.19%, respectively. The new species is distinguished from its congeners by a combination of the following morphological characters: (1) having medium body size, with the snout-vent length (SVL) of adult females approximately 1.2 times as long as males at 56.9 +/- 1.0 (55.8-58.2 mm, n = 9) in females and 48.7 +/- 1.2 (47.1-49.9 mm, n = 5) in males; (2) head length greater than width in males and females; (3) tympanum distinctly visible, greater than one-half the diameter of the eye; (4) eyes big and prominent, width of upper eyelid (UEW) approximately 3/4 of eye diameter (ED); (5) dorsolateral folds absent; (6) two metacarpal tubercles; (7) relative finger lengths: II < I < IV < III; (8) subarticular tubercles on fingers prominent: 1, 1, 2, 2; (9) one metatarsal tubercle; (10) tibiotarsal articulation reaching to between the eye and nostril when the leg is stretched forward; (11) toes with entire webbing to disks; (12) subarticular tubercles on toes prominent: 1, 1, 2, 3, 2; (13) dorsal surfaces of limbs with distinct brownish-black bands; (14) smooth, grass-green dorsum with irregular brown mottling; (15) venter smooth, lacking black spots; and (16) lacking pectoral spinules, lacking vocal sacs, and light white nuptial pad present on finger I in males. The new species is currently only known from the type locality.

Abstract:Anomala calceuiformis Huang & Lu, sp. nov. is described as a new species based on specimens collected from Mangshan National Nature Reserve, Hunan Province, China. Anomala calceuiformis sp. nov. , which has an elongate, red-brown body, a strongly reflected clypeus, and convex elytral intervals, is similar to Anomala fukiensis Machatschke, 1955, Anomala longicarcarata Lin, 2002, and Anomala spatuliformis Lin, 2002. Here we provide a key to these species, describe and diagnose each of them, and compile a distribution map. In addition, the Cytochrome oxidase I (COI) DNA sequence of Anomala calceuiformis sp. nov. is provided. The morphological features that distinguish Anomala calceuiformis sp. nov. from related species are discussed.

Abstract:Lysionotus coccinus G.W. Hu & Q.F. Wang, a distinct new species from Yingjiang County, southwestern Yunnan Province, China, is described and illustrated. It belongs to L. sect. Lysionotus, but has scarlet flowers while all other known species in this section have white, yellow, purple or pink flowers. Color photographs and a chart are provided for comparing the new species with related species.

Abstract:A new Linyphiinae genus Zhezhoulinyphia gen. nov. from Yunnan Province is described together with its two new species: Z.caperata sp. nov. (♂) and Z.denticulata sp. nov. (♂, ♀). Centromerusyadongensis Hu & Li, 1987 is transferred to Zhezhoulinyphia gen. nov. and a new combination, Z.yadongensis (Hu & Li, 1987), comb. nov. is proposed.

Abstract:The family Lycaenidae is a widely distributed and species-rich group with approximately 5300 described species. The rare genus Qinorapala Chou & Wang, with Q. qinlingana Chou & Wang as its type species was established as monotypic. In the original description, Q. qinlingana was described from a male holotype; the female remained unknown. To date, the genus is only recorded from the Qinling Mountains (Shaanxi and Gansu Provinces). In this study, two female specimens, from Shaanxi Province and western Sichuan Province (bordering Yunnan Province) are described and illustrated for the first time.Female specimens of Q. qinlingana from Shaanxi and Sichuan are described for the first time. The species' distribution is updated and a distribution map is provided.
