Abstract:Let (X,I,J,K) be a compact hypercomplex manifold, i.e. a smooth manifold X with an action of the quaternion algebra (Id,I,J,K) on the tangent bundle TX, inducing integrable almost complex structures. For any $(a, b, c) \in S^2$, the linear combination $L := aI + bJ + cK$ defines another complex structure on X. This results in a $C P^1$-family of complex structures called the twistor family. Its total space is called the twistor space. We show that the twistor space of a compact hypercomplex manifold is never Moishezon and, moreover, it is never Fujiki class C (in particular, never Kahler and never projective).

Abstract:A hyperk\"ahler manifold is defined as a Riemannian manifold endowed with three covariantly constant complex structures that are quaternionically related. A twistor space is characterized as a holomorphic fiber bundle $p: \mathcal{Z} \rightarrow \mathbb{CP}^1$ possesses properties such as a family of holomorphic sections whose normal bundle is $\bigoplus^{2n}\mathcal{O}(1)$, a holomorphic section of $\Lambda^2(N\mathcal{Z})\otimes p^*(\mathcal{O}(2))$ that defines a symplectic form on each fiber, and a compatible real structure. According to the Hitchin-Karlhede-Lindstr\"om-Ro\v{c}ek theorem (Comm. Math. Phys., 108(4):535-589, 1987), there exists a hyperk\"ahler metric on the parameter space $M$ for the real sections of $\mathcal{Z}$. Utilizing the Kodaira-Spencer deformation theory, we facilitate the construction of a hypercomplex structure on $M$, predicated upon more relaxed presuppositions concerning $\mathcal{Z}$. This effort enriches our understanding of the classical theorem by Hitchin-Karlhede-Lindstr\"om-Ro\v{c}ek.

Abstract:We construct a generalization of twistor spaces of hypercomplex manifolds and hyper-Kähler manifolds M, by generalizing the twistor P1 to a more general complex manifold Q. The resulting manifold X is complex if and only if Q admits a holomorphic map to P1. We make branched double covers of these manifolds. Some class of these branched double covers can give rise to non-Kähler Calabi–Yau manifolds. We show that these manifolds X and their branched double covers are non-Kähler. In the cases that Q is a balanced manifold, the resulting manifold X and its special branched double cover have balanced Hermitian metrics.

Abstract:The twistor construction for Riemannian manifolds is extended to the case of manifolds endowed with generalized metrics (in the sense of generalized geometry à la Hitchin). The generalized twistor space associated to such a manifold is defined as the bundle of generalized complex structures on the tangent spaces of the manifold compatible with the given generalized metric. This space admits natural generalized almost complex structures whose integrability conditions are found in the paper. An interesting feature of the generalized twistor spaces discussed in it is the existence of intrinsic isomorphisms.

Abstract:We establish a new criterion for a compatible almost complex structure on a symplectic four-manifold to be integrable and hence Kähler. Our main theorem shows that the existence of three linearly independent closed J-anti-invariant two-forms implies the integrability of the almost complex structure. This proves the conjecture of Draghici-Li-Zhang in the almost-Kähler case

Abstract:Any quaternionic Kähler manifold $(\bar N,g_{\bar N},\mathcal Q)$ equipped with a Killing vector field $X$ with nowhere vanishing quaternionic moment map carries an integrable almost complex structure $J_1$ that is a section of the quaternionic structure $\mathcal Q$. Using the HK/QK correspondence, we study properties of the almost Hermitian structure $(g_{\bar N},\tilde J_1)$ obtained by changing the sign of $J_1$ on the distribution spanned by $X$ and $J_1X$. In particular, we derive necessary and sufficient conditions for its integrability and for it being conformally Kähler. We show that for a large class of quaternionic Kähler manifolds containing the one-loop deformed c-map spaces, the structure $\tilde J_1$ is integrable. We do also show that the integrability of $\tilde J_1$ implies that $(g_{\bar N},\tilde J_1)$ is conformally Kähler in dimension four, but not in higher dimensions. In the special case of the one-loop deformation of the quaternionic Kähler symmetric spaces dual to the complex Grassmannians of two-planes we construct a third canonical Hermitian structure $(g_{\bar N},\hat J_1)$. Finally, we give a complete local classification of quaternionic Kähler four-folds for which $\tilde J_1$ is integrable and show that these are either locally symmetric or carry a cohomogeneity $1$ isometric action generated by one of the Lie algebras $\mathfrak{o}(2)\ltimes\mathfrak{heis}_3(\mathbb R)$, $\mathfrak{u}(2)$, or $\mathfrak{u}(1,1)$.

Abstract:We find all hyper-Kähler 4-manifolds admitting conformal Kähler structures with respect to either orientation, and we show that these structures can be expressed as a combination of twistor elementary states (and possibly a self-dual dyon) in locally flat spaces. The complex structures of different flat pieces are not compatible however, reflecting that the global geometry is not a linear superposition. For either orientation the space must be Gibbons-Hawking (thus excluding the Atiyah-Hitchin metric), and, if the orientations are opposite, it must also be toric and have an irreducible Killing tensor. We also show that the only hyper-Kähler 4-metric with a non-constant Killing-Yano tensor is the half-flat Taub-NUT instanton.

Abstract:We consider the generalized Kahler structures (g,J_+,J_-) that arise on a hyperkahler manifold (M,g,I,J,K) when we choose J_+ and J_- from the twistor space of M. We find a relation between semichiral and arctic superfields which can be used to determine the generalized Kahler potential for hyperkahler manifolds whose description in projective superspace is fully understood. We use this relation to determine an S^2-family of generalized Kahler potentials for Euclidean space and for the Eguchi-Hanson geometry. Cotangent bundles of Hermitian symmetric spaces constitute a class of hyperkahler manifolds where our method can be applied immediately since the necessary results from projective superspace are already available. As a non-trivial higher-dimensional example, we determine the generalized potential for T*CP^n, which generalizes the Eguchi-Hanson result.

Abstract:Twistor CR manifolds, introduced by LeBrun, are Lorentzian (neutral) CR 5-manifolds defined as $\mathbb{P}^1$-bundles over 3-dimensional conformal manifolds. In this paper, we embed a real analytic twistor CR manifold into the twistor space of the anti self-dual Poincaré-Einstein metric whose conformal infinity is the base conformal 3-manifold, and construct the associated Fefferman ambient metric as a neutral hyperkähler metric on the spinor bundle with the zero section removed. We also describe the structure of the Cheng--Yau type Kähler-Einstein metric which has the twistor CR manifold as the boundary at infinity.

Abstract:The generalized hypercomplex structures defined within the framework of generalized geometry include hypercomplex and holomorphic symplectic structures as particular cases. They have a $S^2$-family of generalized complex structures, and in this paper we study the types of these structures and the corresponding twistor space. We show that there are generalized hypercomplex structures on the $4n$-dimensional tori, which do not contain a structure of maximal (complex) type. Moreover, we show that the Kodaira-Thurston surface which has a holomorphic symplectic structure, admits also a generalized hypercomplex structure in which all generalized complex structures are of type $1$.

Abstract:In this document we present a twistor correspondence for half-flat almost-Grassmannian structures on real and complex manifolds. We provide foundational results regarding local theory in the complex setting and a global correspondence when the underlying manifold is a real Grassmannian of 2-planes. Whereas twistor constructions typically involve moduli of closed curves in a complex manifold, we utilize and expand upon the more flexible approach pioneered by LeBrun and Mason using moduli of curves-with-boundary.

Abstract:The higher-order superintegrability of the Tremblay-Turbiner-Winternitz system (related to the harmonic oscillator) is studied on the two-dimensional spherical and hiperbolic spaces, $S_\k^2$ ($\k>0$), and $H_{\k}^2$ ($\k<0$). The curvature $\kappa$ is considered as a parameter and all the results are formulated in explicit dependence of $\kappa$. The idea is that the additional constant of motion can be factorized as the product of powers of two particular rather simple complex functions (here denoted by $M_r$ and $N_\phi$). This technique leads to a proof of the superintegrability of the Tremblay-Turbiner-Winternitz system on $S_\k^2$ ($\k>0$) and $H_{\k}^2$ ($\k<0$), and to the explicit expression of the constants of motion.

On the invariant and anti-invariant cohomologies of hypercomplex manifolds

Abstract:A hypercomplex structure $(I,J,K)$ on a manifold $M$ is said to be $C^\infty$-pure-and-full if the Dolbeault cohomology $H^{2,0}_{\partial}(M,I)$ is the direct sum of two natural subgroups called the $\bar{J}$-invariant and the $\bar{J}$-anti-invariant subgroups. We prove that a compact hypercomplex manifold that satisfies the quaternionic version of the $dd^c$-Lemma is $C^\infty$-pure-and-full. Moreover, we study the dimensions of the $\bar{J}$-invariant and the $\bar{J}$-anti-invariant subgroups, together with their analogue in the Bott-Chern cohomology. For instance, in real dimension 8, we characterize the existence of hyperkähler with torsion metrics in terms of the dimension of the $\bar{J}$-invariant subgroup. We also study the existence of special hypercomplex structures on almost abelian solvmanifolds.

Abstract:Let $(M, \Omega)$ be a holomorphically symplectic manifold equipped with a holomorphic Lagrangian fibration $\pi: M \to B$, and $\eta$ a closed $(1,1)$-form on $B$. Then $\Omega+ \pi^* \eta$ is a holomorphically symplectic form on a complex manifold which is called the degenerate twistor deformation of $M$. We prove that degenerate twistor deformations of compact holomorphically symplectic Kähler manifolds are also Kähler. First, we prove that degenerate twistor deformations are Hermitian symplectic, that is, tamed by a symplectic form; this is shown using positive currents and an argument based on the Hahn--Banach theorem, originally due to Sullivan. Then we apply a version of Huybrechts's theorem showing that two non-separated points in the Teichmüller space of holomorphically symplectic manifolds correspond to bimeromorphic manifolds if they are Hermitian symplectic.

Abstract:This articles is devoted to a description of the second-order differential geometry of torsion-free almost quaternionic skew-Hermitian manifolds, that is, of quaternionic skew-Hermitian manifolds $(M, Q, \omega)$. We provide a curvature characterization of such integrable geometric structures, based on the holonomy theory of symplectic connections and we study qualitative properties of the induced Ricci tensor. Then we proceed with bundle constructions over such a manifold $(M, Q, \omega)$. In particular, we prove the existence of almost hypercomplex skew-Hermitian structures on the Swann bundle over $M$ and investigate their integrability.
