Abstract:Arguments are presented for the odderon intercept being exactly equal to unity. A variational method is presented based on a complete system of one-gluon functions. For the odderon, the highest intercept calculated by this method is $1-(3\alpha_{s}/\pi)\,0.45$.

The results confirm their reported value for the energy. Variational calculations give energies some 30% higher. However they also predict the odderon intercept to be quite close to unity. In fact, for realistic values of $\alpha_s$, the intercept calculated variationally is at most 2% lower than the exact one: 0.94 instead of 0.96. It is also found that the solution for $q_3=0$ does not belong to the odderon spectrum. The diffusion parameter is found to be of the order 0.6.

Abstract:We report an odderon Regge trajectory emerging from a field theoretical Coulomb gauge QCD model for the odd signature JPC (P=C= -1) glueball states (oddballs). The trajectory intercept is clearly smaller than the pomeron and even the omega trajectory's intercept which provides an explanation for the nonobservation of the odderon in high energy scattering data. To further support this result we compare to glueball lattice data and also perform calculations with an alternative model based upon an exact Hamiltonian diagonalization for three constituent gluons.

Abstract:Odderon is the $C$-odd amplitude that does not fall (or decrease very slowly) with energy. The expected amplitude is small and mainly real. Therefore, extracting it from the data on top of a much larger $C$-even contribution is challenging. The only chance is to consider the very low $|t|$ region of Coulomb nuclear interference or the diffractive dip region. Here we perform the analysis of elastic scattering $pp$ and $\bar pp$ data at low momentum transfer $|t| < 0.1$ GeV$^2$ within large collider energy interval $\sqrt s = 50$ GeV $-$ 13 TeV in order to evaluate quantitatively the possible Odderon contribution. We use the two-channel eikonal model, which naturally accounts for the screening of the Odderon amplitude by the $C$-even (Pomeron) exchanges.

Abstract:Inspired by the evidence of the odderon exchange recently observed by the D0 and TOTEM Collaborations, a quantum chromodynamics (QCD) sum rule investigation is performed to study the odderon as a three-gluon bound state. There may exist six lowest-lying three-gluon odderons with the quantum numbers JPC=1/2/3±-. We systematically construct their interpolating currents, and calculate their mass spectra. To verify their existence, we propose to search for the spin-3 odderons in their VVV and VVP decay channels directly at LHC, with V and P light vector and pseudoscalar mesons respectively.

Unitarity effects in elastic scattering at the LHC

Abstract:We study the high-energy behavior of the elastic scattering amplitude using two distinct unitarization schemes: the eikonal and the $U$-matrix. Our analysis begins with a formalism involving solely Pomerons, incorporating pion-loop insertions in the Pomeron trajectory representing the nearest singularity generated by $t$-channel unitarity. Subsequently, we explore a scenario that includes the presence of an Odderon. In our analyses, we explore the tension between the TOTEM and the ATLAS measurements for $\sigma_{tot}$ and $d\sigma/dt$ at 7, 8, and 13 TeV, and the subsequent implications for the properties of both the Pomeron and Odderon. Our results show that the Odderon phase factor $\xi_{\Bbb O}= -1$ is favored in both unitarization schemes, supporting an Odderon with a phase opposite to that of other crossing-odd components of the scattering amplitude. More interestingly, this specific phase factor stands as the sole one that aligns with results consistent with a non-zero Odderon coupling.

Abstract:Theory suggests that in high-energy elastic hadron+hadron scattering, t-channel exchange of a family of colourless crossing-odd states - the odderon - may generate differences between pp over bar and pp cross -sections in the neighbourhood of the diffractive minimum. Using a mathematical approach based on interpolation via continued fractions enhanced by statistical sampling, we develop robust comparisons between pp over bar elastic differential cross-sections measured at root s = 1.96 TeV by the D0 Collaboration at the Tevatron and function-form-unbiased extrapolations to this energy of kindred pp measurements at root s/TeV = 2.76, 7, 8, 13 by the TOTEM Collaboration at the LHC and a combination of these data with earlier cross-section measurements at root s/GeV = 23.5, 30.7, 44.7, 52.8, 62.5 made at the intersecting storage rings. Focusing on a domain that straddles the diffractive minimum in the pp over bar and pp cross -sections, we find that these two cross-sections differ at the (2.2 - 2.6)sigma level; hence, supply evidence with this level of significance for the existence of the odderon. If combined with evidence obtained through different experiment-theory comparisons, whose significance is reported to lie in the range (3.4 - 4.6)sigma, one arrives at a (4.0 - 5.2)sigma signal for the odderon.(c) 2023 The Author(s). Odderon as Regge oddball spin-3 in $pp$ and $p\bar p$ elastic scattering

Abstract:In this work, we propose that the odderon is a Regge odd-glueball tensor spin-3. To demonstrate our proposal, we study the $pp$ and $p\bar p$ elastic scattering by including contributions of the spin-3 odderon and spin-2 pomeron exchange in the processes. The phenomenological effective Lagrangian approach is used to calculate the $pp$ and $p\bar p$ elastic scattering amplitudes at the tree level. In addition, a Donnachie-Landschoff ansatz of the odderon and pomeron propagators has been used in this work. We fit the theoretical results with the various experimental data of the $pp$ and $p\bar p$ scattering at the TeV scale to determine the model parameters in the present work. By using the model parameters, the Chew-Frautschi plot of the tensor odderon Regge trajectory is evaluated. As a result, the odderon spin-3 mass is predicted to be 3.2 GeV. In addition, the total cross-section of our model is compatible with the results from TOTEM and its extrapolation from D0 collaboration. Moreover, the total cross-section also satisfies the Friossart bound at the Regge limit.

Abstract:We calculate the perturbative T -odd contributions to the lepton angular distribution in the Drell-Yan process. Using collinear factorization, we work at the first order in QCD perturbation theory where these contributions appear, O(αs2) , and address both W± and γ/Z0 boson exchange. A major focus of our calculation is on the regime where the boson's transverse momentum QT is much smaller than its mass Q . We carefully expand our results up to next-to-next-to-leading power in QT/Q . Our calculation provides a benchmark for studies of T -odd contributions that employ transverse-momentum dependent parton distribution functions. Abstract:Positivity constraints are derived on pion–nucleon scattering amplitudes and their even-order derivatives inside the Mandelstam triangle with the help of dispersion relations. Fairly interesting constraints are obtained on some of the low-energy constants, by a combination of the chiral perturbation theory for heavy baryons and existing fitting results from available pion–nucleon phase shifts at intermediate energies.

Abstract:An extensive generalization of the ordinary and quasi-eikonal methods is presented for the $pp$ and $\bar pp$ elastic scattering amplitudes, which takes into account in a phenomenological way all intermediate multiparticle states involving the crossing even and crossing odd combinations of Reggeons. The formalism in this version involves a maximum of three parameters corresponding to the intermediate states which are possible in this configuration. The unitarity restriction is investigated and particular cases are discussed. An interesting result that emerges concerns the Odderon trajectory intercept: we find that unitarity dictates that this quantity {\it must} be below or equal unity unless a very peculiar equality exists between the coupling of the particles to the Pomeron and the Odderon.

Abstract:We compute exclusive $\eta_c$ production in high energy electron-nucleon and electron-nucleus collisions that is sensitive to the Odderon. In perturbative QCD the Odderon is a $C$-odd color singlet consisting of at least three $t$-channel gluons exchanged with the target. By using the Color Glass Condensate effective theory our result describes the Odderon exchange at the high collision energies that would be reached at a future electron-ion collider. The Odderon distribution is evolved to small-$x$ using the Balitsky-Kovchegov evolution equation with running coupling corrections. We find that while at low momentum transfers $t$ the cross section off a proton is dominated by the Primakoff process, the Odderon becomes relevant at larger momentum transfers of $|t|\geq1.5$ GeV$^2$. We point that the Odderon could also be extracted at low-$t$ using neutron targets since the Primakoff component is strongly suppressed. In the case of nuclear targets, the Odderon cross section becomes enhanced thanks to the mass number of the nuclear target. The gluon saturation effect induces a shift in the diffractive pattern with respect to the Primakoff process that could be used as a signal for the Odderon.

Observation of Odderon Effects at LHC energies -- A Real Extended Bialas-Bzdak Model Study

Abstract:The unitarily extended Bialas-Bzdak model of elastic proton-proton scattering is applied, without modifications, to describe the differential cross-section of elastic proton-antiproton collisions in the TeV energy range, and to extrapolate these differential cross-sections to LHC energies. In this model-dependent study we find that the differential cross-sections of elastic proton-proton collision data at 2.76 and 7 TeV energies differ significantly from the differential cross-section of elastic proton-antiproton collisions extrapolated to these energies. The elastic proton-proton differential cross-sections, extrapolated to 1.96 TeV energy with the help of this extended Bialas-Bzdak model do not differ significantly from that of elastic proton-antiproton collisions, within the theoretical errors of the extrapolation. Taken together these results provide a model-dependent, but statistically significant evidence for a crossing-odd component of the elastic scattering amplitude at the at least 7.08 sigma level. From the reconstructed Odderon and Pomeron amplitudes, we determine the $\sqrt{s}$ dependence of the corresponding total and differential cross-sections.
