Abstract:Massless diquark jet and gluon jet productions at large transverse momentum in the coherent diffractive processes at hadron colliders are studied in the two-gluon exchange parametrization of the Pomeron model. We use the helicity amplitude method to calculate the cross section formulas. We find that for the light quark jet and gluon jet production the diffractive process is related to t he differential off-diagonal gluon distribution function in the proton. We estimate the production rate for these processes at the Fermilab Tevatron by approximating the off-diagonal gluon distribution function by the usual diagonal gluon distribution in the proton. We also use the helicity amplitude method to calculate the diffractive charm jet production at hadron colliders, by which we reproduce the leading logarithmic approximation result of this process we previously calculated.

Abstract:We review next-to-leading order calculations of one- and two-jet production in ep collisions at HERA for photon virtualities in the range 1<Q^2<100 GeV^2. Soft and collinear singularities are extracted using the phase space slicing method. Numerical results are presented for HERA conditions with the Snowmass jet definition. The transition between photoproduction and deep-inelastic scattering is studied. We discuss the comparison with recent H1 data of the dijet rate and differential dijet cross sections with special attention to the region, in which two jets have equal transverse momenta.

Abstract:The large transverse momentum muon pair and W boson productions in the quarkinitiated coherent diffractive processes at hadron colliders are discussedunder the framework of the two-gluon exchange parametrization of the Pomeronmodel. In this approach, the production cross sections are related to thesmall-x off-diagonal gluon distribution and the large-x quark distribution inthe proton (antiproton). By approximating the off-diagonal gluon distributionby the usual gluon distribution function, we estimate the production rates ofthese processes at the Fermilab Tevatron.

Abstract:We calculate several differential distributions for diffractive dijets production in ep→e′jet jetp in the perturbative QCD dipole approach using off diagonal unintegrated gluon distributions (generalized transverse momentum dependent distributions, GTMDs). Different models from the literature are used. We concentrate on the contribution from exclusive qq ̄ dijets. Results of our calculations are compared to H1 and ZEUS data, including specific experimental cuts in our calculations. In general, except for one GTMD, our results are below the HERA data. The considered mechanism is expected to gives a sizeable contribution to the ZEUS data, while it is negligible in the kinematics of the H1 measurement. This is in contrast to recent results from the literature where the normalization was adjusted to some selected distributions of the H1 collaboration and no agreement with other observables was checked. The ZEUS data provide stricter limitations on the GTMDs than the H1 data. We conclude, based on comparison to different observables, that the calculated cross sections are only a small fraction of the measured ones which contain probably also processes with pomeron remnant. Alternatively one could try to explain the experimental data by inclusion of qq ̄g component of the photon wave function. We present also azimuthal correlations between the sum and the difference of dijet transverse momenta. Incoherent diffractive production of jets in electron DIS off nuclei at high energy

Abstract:We study incoherent diffractive production of two and three jets in electron-nucleus deep inelastic scattering (DIS) at small $x_{\scriptscriptstyle \rm Bj}$ using the color dipole picture and the effective theory of the Color Glass Condensate (CGC). We consider color fluctuations in the CGC weight-function as the source of the nuclear break-up and the associated momentum transfer $\sqrt{|t|}$. We focus on the regime in which the two jets are almost back-to-back in transverse space and have transverse momenta $P_{\perp}$ much larger than both the momentum transfer and the saturation scale $Q_s$. The cross section for producing such a hard dijet is parametrically dominated by large size fluctuations in the projectile wave-function that scatter strongly and for which a third, semi-hard, jet appears in the final state. The 2 + 1 jets cross section can be written in a factorized form in terms of incoherent quark and gluon diffractive transverse momentum distributions (DTMDs) when the third jet is explicit, or incoherent diffractive parton distribution functions (DPDFs) when the third jet is integrated over. We find that the DPDFs and the corresponding cross section saturate logarithmically when $|t| \ll Q_s^2$, while they fall like $1/|t|^2$ in the regime $Q_s^2 \ll |t| \ll P_{\perp}^2$. We further show that there is no angular correlation between the hard jet momentum and the momentum transfer. For typical EIC kinematics the 2 jets and 2 + 1 jets cross sections are of the same order.

Abstract:We compute the differential cross section for direct quarkonium production in high-energy electron-nucleus collisions at small $x$. Our computation is performed within the nonrelativistic QCD factorization formalism that separates the calculation into short distance coefficients and long distance matrix elements that depend on the color and spin of the state. We obtain the short distance coefficients of the production of the heavy quark pair within the framework of the Color Glass Condensate effective field theory, which resums coherent multiple interactions of the heavy quark pair with the nucleus to all orders. Our results are expressed as the convolution of perturbatively calculable perturbative functions with multi-point light-like Wilson line correlators. In the correlation limit, we establish the correspondence between our CGC formulation with calculations employing the transverse momentum dependent (TMD) framework. We extend this correspondence by resumming kinematic power corrections within the improved TMD framework, which interpolates between the TMD formalism and $k_\perp$ factorization formalism. We present a detailed numerical analysis, focusing on $J/\psi$ production in the kinematics accessible at the future Electron-Ion Collider, highlighting the importance of genuine higher-order saturation contributions when the electron collides with a large nucleus.

Abstract:We study the azimuthal angular decorrelation of the dijet production via photon fusion in ultra-peripheral heavy ion collisions. The impact parameter dependent cross section of quark-antiquark pairs production is derived using the equivalent photon approximation, and the contribution from final-state QCD radiations to the azimuthal angular distribution are calculated within Soft-Collinear Effective Theory. We carry out the QCD resummation of large logarithms of the azimuthal angle as well as the jet radius at next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy. In the end we present the normalized differential cross section for azimuthal decorrelation of the dijet pair and find that our results are consistent with the measurements reported by the ATLAS collaboration.
Incoherent diffractive dijet production in electron DIS off nuclei at high energy

Abstract:We study incoherent diffractive dijet production in electron-nucleus deep inelastic scattering at small $x_{\rm \scriptscriptstyle Bj}$ within the Color Glass Condensate. We follow the general approach of [1] but we focus on the correlation limit, that is, when the momentum transfer $\Delta_{\perp}$ and the gluon saturation momentum $Q_s$ of the nucleus are much smaller than the individual jet momentum $P_{\perp}$. We arrive at analytic expressions for the dijet cross section, which can be written as a sum of four terms which exhibit factorization: each such term is a product between a hard factor, which includes the decay of the virtual photon to the $q\bar{q}$ pair, and a semi-hard one which involves the dipole-nucleus scattering amplitude. We further calculate the azimuthal anisotropies $\langle \cos 2 \phi \rangle$ and $\langle \cos 4 \phi \rangle$. They are of the same order in the hard momentum $P_{\perp}$, but the $\langle \cos 4 \phi \rangle$ is logarithmically suppressed due to its dependence on the semi-hard factor. Finally, in order to extend the validity of our result towards the perturbative domain, we calculate the first higher kinematic twist, i.e. the correction of relative order $\Delta_{\perp}^2/P_{\perp}^2$.

Abstract:We consider the diffractive Drell-Yan process in proton-(anti)proton collisions at high energies in the color dipole approach. The calculations are performed at forward rapidities of the leptonic pair. Effect of eikonalization of the universal "bare"dipole-target elastic amplitude in the saturation regime takes into account the principal part of the gap survival probability. We present predictions for the total and differential cross sections of the single diffractive lepton pair production at RHIC and LHC energies. We analyze implications of the QCD factorisation breakdown in the diffractive Drell-Yan process, which is caused by a specific interplay of the soft and hard interactions, and resulting in rather unusual properties of the corresponding observables.

TMD factorisation for diffractive jets in photon-nucleus interactions

Abstract:Using the colour dipole picture and the colour glass condensate effective theory, we study the diffractive production of two or three jets via coherent photon-nucleus interactions at high energy. We consider the hard regime where the photon virtuality and/or the transverse momenta of the produced jets are much larger than the saturation momentum $Q_s$ of the nuclear target. We show that, despite this hardness, the leading-twist contributions are controlled by relatively large parton configurations, with transverse sizes $R\sim 1/Q_s$, which undergo strong scattering and probe gluon saturation. For exclusive dijets, this implies that both final jets have semi-hard transverse momenta ($P_\perp\sim Q_s$) and that one of them is aligned with the photon. The dominant contributions to the diffractive production of hard dijets ($P_\perp\gg Q_s$) rather come from three-jet final states, which are very asymmetric and will be referred to as 2+1 jets: two of the jets are hard, while the third one is semi-hard. We demonstrate that the leading-twist contributions to both exclusive dijets and the diffractive production of 2+1 jets admit transverse-momentum dependent (TMD) factorisation, in terms of quark and gluon diffractive TMD distribution functions, for which we obtain explicit expressions from first principles. We show that the contribution of 2+1 jets to diffractive SIDIS (semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering) takes the form of one step in the DGLAP evolution of the quark diffractive PDF.

Abstract:Asymmetries in heavy quark pair and dijet production in electron-proton collisions allow studies of gluon TMDs in close analogy to studies of quark TMDs in semi-inclusive DIS. Here we present expressions for azimuthal asymmetries for both unpolarized and transversely polarized proton cases and consider the maximal asymmetries allowed. The latter are found to be rather sizeable, except in certain kinematic limits which are pointed out. In addition, we consider the small-x limit and expectations from a McLerran-Venugopalan model for unpolarized and linearly polarized gluons and from a perturbative, large transverse momentum calculation for the T-odd gluon TMDs. Comparison to related observables at RHIC and LHC is expected to provide valuable information about the process dependence of the gluon TMDs. In particular this will offer the possibility of a sign change test of the gluon Sivers TMD and two other T-odd gluon TMDs. This provides additional motivation for studies of azimuthal asymmetries in heavy quark pair and dijet production at a future Electron-Ion Collider.

Quark-Hadron Picture of the Deuteron Photodisintegration

Abstract:The high energy two-body photodisintegration of the deuteron is an ideal reaction for the identification of quark effects in the nuclei. In particular, the study of this reaction in the few GeV region can clarify the transition from the nucleonic degrees of freedom to the QCD picture of hadrons. The CLAS large angle spectrometer of Hall B at TJNAF allowed for the first time to measure the differential cross section for photon energy between 0.5 and 3 GeV, over all proton angles between 10 and 140 degrees in the laboratory frame. Preliminary results from the analysis of 30% of the total statistic accumulated is shown. These results are in good agreement with the available data, and are well described by the recent calculation of the deuteron photodisintegration cross section derived in the framework of the Quark Gluon String Model.

Abstract:In this paper we study photon production in single and double diffractive processes considering the resolved pomeron model. We estimate the rapidity and transverse momentum dependence of the cross section for the diffractive double photon and photon+jet production. A comparison with the inclusive production is presented. We predict large values for the total cross sections, which make the experimental analysis of these observables feasible at LHC energies.

Abstract:In these proceedings we present our results on the exclusive photoproduction of $J/\psi\,\eta_{c}$ pairs in the collinear factorization framework. We argue that the process might be used as a complementary channel for studying the generalized parton distributions (GPDs) of gluons. We provide numerical estimates for the cross-section in the kinematics of the future Electron Ion Collider.

Abstract:Abstract We consider the longitudinal momentum distribution of hadrons inside jets in proton-proton collisions. At partonic threshold large double logarithmic corrections arise which need to be resummed to all orders. We develop a factorization formalism within SCET that allows for the joint resummation of threshold and jet radius logarithms. We achieve next-to-leading logarithmic NLL′ accuracy by including non-global logarithms in the leading-color approximation. Overall, we find that the threshold resummation leads to a sizable enhancement of the cross section and a reduced QCD scale dependence, suggesting that the all-order resummation can be important for the reliable extraction of fragmentation functions in global analyses when jet substructure data is included.

Abstract:We perform a comprehensive study within quantum chromodynamics (QCD) of dihadron observables in electron-positron annihilation, semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering, and proton-proton collisions, including recent cross section data from Belle and azimuthal asymmetries from STAR. We extract simultaneously for the first time π+π− dihadron fragmentation functions (DiFFs) and the nucleon transversity distributions for up and down quarks as well as antiquarks. For the transversity distributions we impose their small- x asymptotic behavior and the Soffer bound. In addition, we utilize a new definition of DiFFs that has a number density interpretation to then calculate expectation values for the dihadron invariant mass and momentum fraction. Furthermore, we investigate the compatibility of our transversity results with those from single-hadron fragmentation (from a transverse momentum dependent/collinear twist-3 framework) and the nucleon tensor charges computed in lattice QCD. We find a universal nature to all of this available information. Abstract:We present a first calculation of the heavy flavor contribution to the longitudinally polarized deep-inelastic scattering structure function g1Q , differential in the transverse momentum or the rapidity of the observed heavy quark Q or antiquark Q ̄ . All results are obtained at next-to-leading order accuracy in QCD within the framework of a newly developed parton-level Monte Carlo generator that also allows one to study observables associated with the produced heavy quark pair such as its invariant mass distribution or its correlation in azimuthal angle. First phenomenological studies are carried out for various heavy quark distributions in a kinematic regime relevant for a future Electron-Ion Collider with a particular emphasis on the expected size of the corresponding double-spin asymmetries and their sensitivity to the still poorly constrained helicity gluon distribution.
