The conference was hosted by International Association of Dietetic Nutrition and Safety, European Phytochemical Society, Asian Phytochemical Society, eFood, and Food Frontiers, and organized by Northwest University and Shanxi Normal University. Representatives from more than 60 universities participated in this event online and onsite.

Abstract:Personalized medicine heralds the future of medicine. The 2009 Westlake International Conference on Personalized Medicine held from May 29-31, 2009, in Hangzhou, China (www.westlakeconference.org) brought together approximately 200 participants and over 40 presenters from a dozen countries. The conference was discussed in detail, with focus on the following major areas of personalized medicine: preventative and predictive medicine, cancer systems biology and therapy, physiology and artificial liver systems, nanotechnology and informatics, proteomics and systems pathology, genomics and pharmacogenomics, and epigenetics and new techniques. During the conference, the Asian Association of Systems Biology and Medicine (AASBM) was officially formed, and the ad hoc steering members for each of the major Asian countries were appointed to recruit key players from each country. The IBC (Interdisciplinary Bio Central) journal was suggested as the official journal for the AASBM, as it is a truly open journal (www.ibc7.org). The Web site for AASBM will be aasbm.org.

Abstract:The second IEEE Power Electronics Society (PELS) Students Symposium on Power Electronics (SSPEL)—Asia 2024 was successfully held in Hangzhou, China, from 13 to 14 January 2024 with both in-person and virtual attendees. The event was organized through the joint efforts of the IEEE PELS Membership Committee—China (MCC), PELS Zhejiang/Jiangsu/Anhui Chapter, and PELS Zhejiang University Student Branch Chapter (SBC), with technical co-sponsorship of the China Power Supply Society (CPSS), as well as seven SBCs and the IEEE PELS Students and Young Professional (S&YP) Committee. The Symposium attracted 478 students and young professionals from seven countries, including, but not limited to, China, Singapore, and South Korea ( Figure 1 ).

Abstract:2024 3rd International Conference on Biochemical Engineering and Environmentally Friendly Material (BEEFM 2024) was successfully held online during April 20-21, 2024 in Budapest, Hungary. The conference invited scholars and experts in the fields of chemistry, biology, environmental engineering and materials application from various universities and institutes, to participate in the review and guidance of this conference. The conference focuses on the latest research fields, and provides an international cooperation and exchange platform for experts, scholars, and business managers in these fields. The aim of BEEFM 2024 is to share the research achievements, discuss the key challenges and research directions of the development, and jointly promote the industrialization cooperation and continuous innovation of international academic achievements. This collection of proceedings compiles oral and paper presentations submitted by the authors and scrutinized by the special committee. The opening ceremony was held in the main session and a speech was delivered by the invited speaker. After the main session, we divided the participants into three sub-sessions. Each author spoke for about 15-20 minutes on detailed material in the slides, with the same amount of time set aside for questions and discussion. The format of questioning and discussion was that after each author's introduction, the conference chairman and committee members asked and answered questions. At least one attendee could ask questions that will be answered by the speaker. BEEFM 2024 had brought together many excellent works, latest ideas, and concepts. New ideas have been provided in the fields of chemistry, biology, environmental engineering, and materials application. Look forward to meeting again next year. Abstract:The 2016 International Conference on Intelligent Biology and Medicine (ICIBM 2016) was held on December 8–10, 2016 in Houston, Texas, USA. ICIBM included eight scientific sessions, four tutorials, one poster session, four highlighted talks and four keynotes that covered topics on 3D genomics structural analysis, next generation sequencing (NGS) analysis, computational drug discovery, medical informatics, cancer genomics, and systems biology. Here, we present a summary of the nine research articles selected from ICIBM 2016 program for publishing in BMC Bioinformatics.

Abstract:We are happy to present the proceedings of our flagship international conference in the field of Biomedical Engineering, which was conducted three days online entitled "8th International virtual Conference on Biosignals, Images, and Instrumentation (ICBSII) held at the Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar College of Engineering, Kalavakkam, Tamil Nadu, India from March 16 – 18, 2022. The conference was conducted virtually, firstly, taking into account the safety of lives as COVID situation was still persisting. Secondly, to provide the ease in connecting online for the Invited speakers, Keynote speakers and participants considering there time constraints related to travelling. The role of healthcare in shaping the future of our lives is inevitable, and no one can deny its importance. Healthcare innovation has made various improvements in our lives from lowering the death ratio of diseases to replicating an organ of the body; technology has changed the face of the health industry. With changes constantly coming into play, it is important to ensure that they are upheld. The changes, improvements, and developments that are on the way for technology within healthcare are exciting. This conference provided an excellent platform for researchers, academicians, and industry practitioners across the globe to showcase their novel ideas in the field of biomedical engineering. We have received 132 papers across the globe and the submitted papers underwent a pre evaluation assessment by conference editors for similarity index check. The papers with a similarity index of less than 12% were selected. To uphold quality standards and reliability, peer policy was adapted. The reviewers are selected based on their accomplishments in the relevant domain. All our reviewers have experience in the relevant domains that have expertise in assessing the novelty, quality, impact, and importance of the research. We followed a double anonymous peer-review process. Reviewers considered the following key points related to technical content, quality, and presentation of the papers are being published in the Journal of Physics: Conference Series (JPCS). Abstract:With the prevalence of cardiovascular disease, it is imperative that medical monitoring and treatment become more instantaneous and comfortable for patients. Recently, wearable and implantable optoelectronic devices can be seamlessly integrated into human body to enable physiological monitoring and treatment in an imperceptible and spatiotemporally unconstrained manner, opening countless possibilities for the intelligent healthcare paradigm. To achieve biointegrated cardiac healthcare, researchers have focused on novel strategies for the construction of flexible/stretchable optoelectronic devices and systems. Here, we overview the progress of biointegrated flexible and stretchable optoelectronics for wearable and implantable cardiac healthcare devices. Firstly, the device design is addressed, including the mechanical design, interface adhesion, and encapsulation strategies. Next, the practical applications of optoelectronic devices for cardiac physiological monitoring, cardiac optogenetics, and nongenetic stimulation are presented. Finally, an outlook on biointegrated flexible and stretchable optoelectronic devices and systems for intelligent cardiac healthcare is discussed.

Abstract:The 1st western China symposium on the international frontier of synthetic biomanufacturing was successfully held on July 8-10 in 2022. The conference is firstly launched by Professor Dan Wang in Chongqing University, and will be organized regularly every year by different universities in western China. The aim of this symposium is to show the cutting-edge knowledge of the synthetic biology developed in China and worldwide, provide a chance to meet international colleagues, and also to promote the academic and economic development of western China. Due to COVID-19, the 2022 symposium was masterfully delivered on the combination of online and offline operation, and the organisers must be commended for a really excellent and interactive meeting. The content of the conference involves two modules of synthetic biology and green biomanufacturing, covering eight aspects: synthetic biology, metabolic engineering, biological process engineering, industrial microbial breeding, biocatalysis and biotransformation, synthetic bio-materials, bio-medicine and biological separation engineering. More than 400 representatives were invited to gather together to exchange the latest research results and development trends in the field of synthetic biology and biomanufacturing. There was a significant focus on the younger scientists, both in terms of oral reports and posters. There were many excellent invited lectures and sessions beyond the remit of this short summary, including "Pharmaceutical manufacturing by biological methods" by Yuguo Zheng, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) Member of China, and a lecture "The third generation of biological manufacturing: preparing chemicals with CO2 as raw material" by Tianwei Tan, Academician of the CAE Member of China, a lecture on the biotransformation and green separation of natural products by Prof. Huizhou Liu, a lecture of the synthetic biology of Halophilic bacteria by Prof. Guoqiang Chen, a lecture of design principles to engineer yeasts as microbial factories by Ass. Prof. Zengyi Shao in Iowa State University, and a outstanding overview of the development of synthetic biology from basic research to industrialization in China to list just six. In this article we will cover some pertinent areas of synthetic biology and biomanufacturing amidst the unavoidable spectra of COVID-19.

Abstract:With recent progress in the design of materials and mechanics, opportunities have arisen to improve optoelectronic devices, circuits, and systems in curved, flexible, stretchable, and biocompatible formats, thereby enabling integration of customized optoelectronic devices and biological systems. Here, the core material technologies of biointegrated optoelectronic platforms are discussed. An overview of the design and fabrication methods to form semiconductor materials and devices in flexible and stretchable formats is presented, strategies incorporating various heterogeneous substrates, interfaces, and encapsulants are discussed, and their applications in biomimetic, wearable, and implantable systems are highlighted.
