Abstract:Hadron spectroscopy, the driving force of high-energy physics in its early decades, has experienced a renaissance in interest over the past 20 years due to the discovery of scores of new, potentially "exotic states" (tetraquarks, pentaquarks, hybrid mesons, glueballs), as well as the observation of many new "conventional" hadrons. The new discoveries expose our lack of understanding about hadronic states, beyond just a few low excitations of the simplest quark configurations. Even so, no single theoretical interpretation (such as hadron molecules, threshold effects, diquark compounds, or others) as yet successfully accommodates all of the new multiquark particles, while a great deal of work remains to extract signals of hybrids and glueballs from reaction-amplitude data. This document summarizes the current state of the field from both experimental and theoretical perspectives. On the experimental side, this report summarizes the current, planned, and proposed activities of LHCb and other LHC experiments, Belle II, BESIII, and GlueX, as well as the approved Electron-Ion Collider, the proposed Super Tau-Charm factory, and other future experiments. The theoretical portion provides a brief overview of multiple phenomenological approaches studied to date, progress in rigorous studies of reaction amplitudes, and advances in lattice-QCD simulations.

Abstract:We study the exotic $J^{PC}=0^{--}$ four-quark states in Laplace sum rules (LSR) and finite energy sum rules (FESR). We use the vector tetraquark-like currents as interpolating currents in the correlator, from which the $1^{+-}$ states are also studied. In the mass extraction, we use the standard stability criterion with respect to the Borel parameters and the QCD continuum thresholds and consider the effect of the violation of factorization in estimating the high dimensional condensates as a source of uncertainties. The obtained mass prediction $1.66\pm0.14$ GeV is much lower than the previous sum rule predictions obtained using the scalar currents. Our result favours the four-quark interpretation of the possible $\rho\pi$ dominance in the $D^0$ decay. We also discuss the possible decay patterns of these exotic four-quark states.

Abstract:Dynamical chiral symmetry breaking (DCSB) is a remarkably effective mass generating mechanism. It is also, amongst other things, the foundation for a successful application of chiral effective field theories, the origin of constituent-quark masses, and intimately connected with confinement in QCD. Using the Dyson-Schwinger equations (DSEs), we explain the origin and nature of DCSB, and elucidate some of its consequences, e.g.: a model-independent result for the pion susceptibility; the generation of a quark anomalous chromomagnetic moment, which may explain the longstanding puzzle of the a_1-rho mass splitting; its impact on the behaviour of the electromagnetic pion form factor -- thereby illustrating how data can be used to chart the momentum-dependence of the dressed-quark mass function; in the form of the pion and kaon valence-quark parton distribution functions, and the relation between them; and aspects of the neutron's electromagnetic form factors, in particular F_1^u/F_1^d and G_M^n. We argue that in solving QCD, a constructive feedback between theory and extant and forthcoming experiments will most rapidly enable constraints to be placed on the infrared behaviour of QCD's \beta-function, the nonperturbative quantity at the core of hadron physics; and emphasise throughout the role played by confrontation with data as a means of verifying our understanding of Nature.

Abstract:The phenomena of confinement and dynamical chiral symmetry b reaking are basic to understanding hadron observables. They can be explored usi ng Dyson-Schwinger equations. The existence of a systematic, nonperturbative and symmetry pr eserving truncation of these equations enables the proof of exact results in QCD, and their illustra tion using simple but accurate models. We provide a sketch of the material qualitative and quantita tive success that has been achieved in the study of pseudoscalar and vector mesons. Efforts are now turning to the study of baryons, which we exemplify via a calculation of nucleon weak and pionic for m factors.
Penta-quark States with Strangeness, Hidden Charm and Beauty

Abstract:The classical quenched quark models with three constituent quarks provide a good description for the baryon spatial ground states, but fail to reproduce the spectrum of baryon excited states. More and more evidences suggest that unquenched effects with multi-quark dynamics are necessary ingredients to solve the problem. Several new hyperon resonances reported recently could fit in the picture of penta-quark states. Based on this picture, some new hyperon excited states were predicted to exist; meanwhile with extension from strangeness to charm and beauty, super-heavy narrow $N^*$ and $\Lambda^*$ resonances with hidden charm or beauty were predicted to be around 4.3 and 11 GeV, respectively. Recently, two of such $N^*$ with hidden charm might have been observed by the LHCb experiment. More of those states are expected to be observed in near future. This opens a new window in order to study hadronic dynamics for the multi-quark states.

Abstract:In the first part of the talk the interesting new results of MINOS, OPERA and CMS collaborations (connected with the observational evidence of the rise in the muon charge ratio at muon energies around 1 TeV) are briefly discussed from theoretical point of view. A short review of charge asymmetric effects in muon energy losses is given. In the second part of the talk, the modern theoretical approaches to the problem of heavy quark production in high energy nucleon-nucleus interactions are briefly considered (color dipole formalism, saturation models). The recent new theoretical developments in the ancient problem of intrinsic charm are also discussed.

Hadron Structure using Continuum Schwinger Function Methods

Abstract:The vast bulk of visible mass emerges from nonperturbative dynamics within quantum chromodynamics (QCD) -- the strong interaction sector of the Standard Model. The past decade has revealed the three pillars that support this emergent hadron mass (EHM); namely, a nonzero gluon mass-scale, a process-independent effective charge, and dressed-quarks with constituent-like masses. Theory is now working to expose their manifold and diverse expressions in hadron observables and highlighting the types of measurements that can be made in order to validate the paradigm. In sketching some of these developments, this discussion stresses the role of EHM in forming nucleon electroweak structure and the wave functions of excited baryons through the generation of dynamical diquark correlations; producing and constraining the dilation of the leading-twist pion distribution amplitude; shaping pion and nucleon parton distribution functions -- valence, glue and sea, including the antisymmetry of antimatter; and moulding pion and proton charge and mass distributions.

Abstract:The formation of hadrons is a fundamental process in nature that can be investigated at particle colliders. Given their large mass, heavy quarks (charm and beauty) are produced only in initial hard-scatterings, prior to hadronisation, which determines instead the relative abundances and the kinematics of the various heavy-flavour hadron species. As several recent findings demonstrate, with \ee collisions as a "vacuum-like" reference at one extreme, and central AA as a dense, extended-size system characterised by flow and local equilibrium at the opposite extreme, different collision systems offer a lever arm that can be exploited to probe with a range of heavy-flavour hadron species the onset of various hadronisation processes. In these proceedings, a selection of the experimental results related to heavy-flavour hadronisation shown for the first time at the Hard Probes 2023 conference is presented together with some of the most important ones of the last years. The focus is on open-heavy flavour measurements. The comparison with model predictions and connections among the results in \ee, proton--proton, proton--nucleus, nucleus--nucleus collisions are discussed.

On the CP Nature of the `95 GeV' Anomalies

Abstract:Under the assumption that the various evidences of a `95 GeV' excess, seen in data at the Large Electron Positron (LEP) collider as well as the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), correspond to actual signals of new physics Beyond the Standard Model (BSM), we characterise the underlying particle explaining these in terms of its Charge/Parity (CP) quantum numbers in a model independent way. In doing so, we assume the new object having spin-0 and test the CP-even (scalar) and CP-odd (pseudoscalar) hypotheses as well superpositions of these in its $\tau^+\tau^-$ decays. We prove that the High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) will be in a position to disentangle the CP nature of such a new particle.

Abstract:AbstractA symmetry-preserving treatment of a vector $$\times $$ × vector contact interaction is used to compute spectra of ground-state $$J^P = 0^\pm , 1^\pm $$ J P = 0 ± , 1 ± $$(f{\bar{g}})$$ ( f g ¯ ) mesons, their partner diquark correlations, and $$J^P=1/2^\pm , 3/2^\pm $$ J P = 1 / 2 ± , 3 / 2 ± (fgh) baryons, where $$f,g,h \in \{u,d,s,c,b\}$$ f , g , h ∈ { u , d , s , c , b } . Results for the leptonic decay constants of all mesons are also obtained, including scalar and pseudovector states involving heavy quarks. The spectrum of baryons produced by this chiefly algebraic approach reproduces the 64 masses known empirically or computed using lattice-regularised quantum chromodynamics with an accuracy of 1.4(1.2)%. It also has the richness of states typical of constituent-quark models and predicts many baryon states that have not yet been observed. The study indicates that dynamical, nonpointlike diquark correlations play an important role in all baryons; and, typically, the lightest allowed diquark is the most important component of a baryon’s Faddeev amplitude.

Abstract:A remarkably successful program of parity-violating electron scattering experiments is providing new insight into the structure of the nucleon. Measurement of the vector form factors enables a definitive study of potential strange quark-antiquark contributions to the electromagnetic structure such as the magnetic moment and charge distribution. Recent experimental results have already indicated that effects of strangeness are much smaller than theoretically expected. In addition, the neutral axial form factor appears to display substantial corrections as one might expect from an anapole effect.

Abstract:The non-perturbative nature of Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) at low energies has prompted the expectation that the gauge-bosons of QCD ? gluons ? might give rise to compound objects denoted as glueballs. Experimental signals for glueballs have represented a matter of research for various collaborations in the last decades; future research in this direction is a main endeavour planned by the PANDA Collaboration at FAIR. Hence in this article I review some of the outstanding issues in the glueball search, particularly with regard to the ground state ? the scalar glueball, and discuss the relevance for PANDA at FAIR.

Progress in Experimental Studies of the Mechanism of Strange Hadron Production in Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collisions

Abstract:Relativistic heavy-ion collision is an ideal way to study the quark matter in laboratory. among which strangeness enhancement is one of the significant probes to search and study the new state of matter. the quark gluon plasma (QGP). Several of our efforts on experimental studies of the strange hadron production are discussed systematically in this review. They include: (1) Measurement of strange hadron production at relativistic heavy-ion collider (RHIC), to study the nature of QGP from the probe of strange quark dynamics, and explore the relationship between strange hadron yield ratio and the quantum chromodynamics (QCD) phase transition, where our data seem to present a clear difference of strange hadron production as a function of their transverse momentum in Au+Au collisions above or lower than the center of mass energy root sNN =19.6 GeV. For example, the multistrange hadron yield ratio is consistent with the quark coalescence model prediction when the collision energy is equal to or larger than 19.6 GeV, favoring the formation of QGP in such collisions; when the collision energy is lower than 19.6 GeV, the yield ratio rapidly deviates from quark coalescence model calculation result, suggesting the importance of hadronic degree of freedom in such collisions. Such a clear difference of strange hadron yield ratio vs. collision energies may be an experimental signal of the QCD phase transition, although statistical uncertainty is still large. (2) Accurate measurement of the mass and the binding energy of the strange nuclei. the hypertriton and the antihypertriton, where the high precision mass measurement data support the CPT (charge, parity. time) invariant in hypertriton and antihypertriton system. So far. this is the CPT invariant test in most heavy antimatter nuclei ever explored. The measurement will also provide experimental constraint on the standard model extension (SME) parameterization. Meanwhile, we obtain the binding energy of hypertriton far above zero. It updates the commonly used data of nearly 50 years ago in the field and answers the Dalitz's 2003's open question on the hypertriton binding energy, where the discrepancy between data and theoretical calculation seems merged now. The data also provide more accurate constraint on the theoretical calculation of hyperon-nucleon interaction, particularly on the few body system_ where quite a few profound phenomena pending, such as the so-called charge symmetry breaking on the atomic number A=4 hypernuclei system. (3) Measurement of multistrange hadron and nucleon correlations in the momentum space, with fust-hand data on the baryon interaction between strange number S=-3 Omega hyperon and the S=0 proton, where experimental results suggest strong attractive interaction between Omega and proton, favoring the formation of multistrange dibaryon in such collisions. This extends the traditional studies of baryon interactions with nucleon scattering from up and down quarks to strange quarks. We demonstrate how, using precision measurements of Omega and proton correlations, the effect of the strong interaction for this hadron-hadron pair can be studied with precision comparable with predictions from lattice calculations. The measurement provides a test of the Omega-proton dibaryon hypothesis as well. In short our studies have enriched human understanding of the strong interaction, especially the properties of the QGP of strange hadron yield enhancement, matterantimatter fundamental symmetry and multistrange exotic hadron states.

Abstract:Stimulated by both new experimental data and theoretical interest, the properties of the spin-singlet P state ${(}^{1}$${P}_{1}$) in the cc\ifmmode\bar\else\textasciimacron\fi{} and bb\ifmmode\bar\else\textasciimacron\fi{} system have been reexamined in the framework of the QCD multipole expansion. We have estimated various rates for producing \ensuremath{\psi}(1 $^{1}P_{1}$) and \ensuremath{\Upsilon}(1 $^{1}P_{1}$) in hadronic transitions, and for producing \ensuremath{\psi}(1 $^{1}P_{1}$) in pp\ifmmode\bar\else\textasciimacron\fi{} annihilation. The \ensuremath{\pi}\ensuremath{\pi} mass spectrum in the transition \ensuremath{\Upsilon}''\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\Upsilon}(1 $^{1}P_{1}$)\ensuremath{\pi}\ensuremath{\pi} has been computed, and the two pions peak at low masses. An interesting approximation proposed by Voloshin and Zakharov is explored further in conjunction with the axial anomaly to relate many isospin-violating ${\ensuremath{\pi}}^{0}$ transitions involving $^{1}\mathrm{P}_{1}$ to the known rate of \ensuremath{\psi}'\ensuremath{\rightarrow}J/\ensuremath{\psi} ${\ensuremath{\pi}}^{0}$. The rates for \ensuremath{\psi}'\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\psi} (1 $^{1}\mathrm{P}_{1}$)${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\pi}}}^{0}$ and \ensuremath{\psi}(1 $^{1}P_{1}$)\ensuremath{\rightarrow}J/\ensuremath{\psi} ${\ensuremath{\pi}}^{0}$ are found to be large. The implications are discussed.

Abstract:This snapshot of recent progress in hadron physics made in connection with QCD's Dyson-Schwinger equations includes: a perspective on confinement and dynamical chiral symmetry breaking (DCSB); a pre'cis on the physics of in-hadron condensates; results on the hadron spectrum, including dressed-quark-core masses for the nucleon and Delta, their first radial excitations, and the parity-partners of these states; an illustration of the impact of DCSB on the electromagnetic pion form factor, thereby exemplifying how data can be used to chart the momentum-dependence of the dressed-quark mass function; and a prediction that F_1^{p,d}/F_1^{p,u} passes through zero at Q^2\approx 5m_N^2 owing to the presence of nonpointlike scalar and axial-vector diquark correlations in the nucleon.

Abstract:Recent progress in understanding the strong physics regime of QCD is described. The role played by condensates, particularly $q{\bar q}$, in breaking chiral symmetry and generating constituent masses for $u$ and $d$ quarks is reviewed. The influence this has on hadrons with vacuum quantum numbers is emphasised. What we know of this sector from recent data on $\phi$-radiative decays and from $D$ decays to light hadrons is discussed. The key to further understanding is comprehensive analyses of such data, including that planned for Hall D at Jefferson Laboratory.

Abstract:Physics is an experimental science; and a constructive feedback between theory and extant and forthcoming experiments is necessary if an understanding of nonperturbative QCD is to be achieved. The Dyson-Schwinger equations connect confinement with dynamical chiral symmetry breaking, both with the observable properties of hadrons, and hence can plausibly provide a means of elucidating the empirical content of strong QCD. We illustrate these points via comments on: in-hadron condensates; dressed-quark anomalous chromo- and electro-magnetic moments; the self-limiting magnitudes of such moments and pion-loop contributions to the gap equation; deep inelastic scattering; the spectra of mesons and baryons; the critical role played by hadron-hadron interactions in producing these spectra; and nucleon elastic and transition form factors.
