Abstract:Fresh agricultural products have been necessities in people's daily life.In recent years,the frequent big changes of the price of fresh agricultural products not only harm the interests of consumers,but also bring heavy loss to produces,which have become the major factors that affect consumer price index.Based on relevant statistics,this paper makes an empirical research on the features and rules of the price fluctuation in fresh agricultural products,and puts forward some targeted proposals,suggesting that the government should take counter-cyclical regulation policy and construct long-term mechanism for steady operation of fresh agricultural products market.It is a great meaning for managing the inflation expectation and advancing the stable and rapid economic development.

Abstract:The land use sector of agriculture, forestry, and Other land use (AFOLU) plays a central role in ambitions climate change mitigation efforts. Yet, mitigation policies in agriculture may be in conflict with food security related targets. Using a global agro economic model, we analyze the impacts on food prices under mitigation policies targeting either incentives for producers (e.g, through taxes) or consumer preferences (e.g., through education programs). Despite having a similar reduction, potential of 43-44% in 2100, the two types of policy instruments result in opposite outcomes for food prices. Incentive-based mitigation, such as protecting carbon-rich forests or adopting low-emission production techniques, increase land scarcity and production costs and thereby food prices. Preference-based mitigation, such as reduced household waste or lower consumption of animal-based products, decreases land scarcity, prevents emissions leakage, and,concentrates production on the most productive sites and Consequently lowers food prices. Whereas agricultural emissions are further abated in the combination of these mitigation measures, the synergy of strategies fails to substantially lower food prices. Additionally, we demonstrate that the efficiency of agricultural emission abatement is stable across a range of greenhouse-gas (GHG) tax levels, while resulting, food prices exhibit a disproportionally larger spread.

Abstract:International transmission mechanism of agricultural product price fluctuation has become a hot topic in recent years.Understanding the rules of agricultural product price fluctuation is of great significance for government's to implement macro-control and reduce the adverse impact of international transmission mechanism of agricultural product price fluctuation on home market.Currently,the policy of most countries in the world is built upon the assumption of symmetric price transmission.However,a large number of empirical tests indicate that the symmetric price transmission is unrealistic in practice,on the contrary,it is asymmetry.The existing research is not yet complete,therefore,this paper makes a literature review based on the asymmetric perspective,and places emphasis on international transmission and asymmetric transmission of agricultural product price volatility.

Abstract:Introduction Price volatility belongs to the most important sources of risk in fruit and vegetable production. Competitive pressure is continuously increasing due to globalization (Lange, 2009) and concentration trends in retail (Flenker et al., 2009). In addition, political risks, like Russia’s ban on fruits and vegetables produced in the European Union, and food crises (e.g., E. coli outbreak in 2011) are discussed as possible reasons for increasing producer price volatility. Seasonality of many fruits and vegetables is further amplifying the issue. Also, perishability constrains the possibility to store fruits and vegetables, and leads to volatile markets (Cook, 2011). Furthermore, limited availability of price hedging instruments (Hartwich and Gandorfer, 2014; Hartwich et al., 2015) challenges price risk management. For instance, commodity futures contracts do not exist due to the perishability and limited storage capability of most fresh produce (see Manfredo and Libbin, 1998). The only horticultural products traded at commodity exchanges are orange juice, cacao, and coffee (www.theice.com). Abstract:This paper emphasises the impact of the ongoing liberalisation of agricultural policies and trade in agricultural commodities on spatial price transmission in agricultural markets. Based on a literature review covering a broad range of topics, the article derives four main conclusions. First, more market-oriented agricultural policies and trade liberalization improve horizontal price transmission in global agricultural markets. Second, in the integrated agricultural markets, some regions tend to lead the price discovery process, which is determined mainly by their role in international trade. Third, with the growing integration of agricultural markets, the significance of local factors such as seasonality is diminishing. Fourth, as markets become more integrated, spontaneous public interventions aimed at the stabilisation of domestic prices are less effective. These findings may help market participants at all stages of the food supply chain to better understand how policy deregulation and trade liberalisation affect price setting in agricultural markets and, consequently, enable them to adjust to these changes more effectively. Furthermore, the paper provides policy implications, as it distinguishes the institutional factors determining the degree of price transmission in agricultural markets and emphasises the decreasing effectiveness of domestic agricultural and trade policies as globalisation in agricultural markets continues.

Abstract:The agricultural futures market occupies a central position in China's financial landscape, wielding substantial influence over the sustainable development of the national economy. Apart from its core roles in price discovery and risk management for agricultural products, this market acts as a catalyst for efficient allocation of resources and continuous financial innovation. Furthermore, it enhances market liquidity and amplifies China's global economic impact. As China's financial sector matures, the agricultural futures market will continue its dual role of bolstering agricultural prosperity and financial dynamism, despite encountering various challenges. This study explores the present state of China's agricultural futures market, evaluating metrics such as total market turnover and penetration. Analysis identifies several critical issues, including inadequate liquidity, susceptibility to market manipulation, speculative activities, and uncertain economic policies. To address these challenges, the paper proposes targeted strategies. The research outcomes carry significant implications for nurturing the sustainable and resilient growth of China's agricultural futures market.

Abstract:This paper will do some research of vegetable price fluctuation based on marketing economics. By comparing differences of source place, management methods and management species of three different surveys with vegetable wholesaler, we do know the trade characteristics of different economic development stages. We conclude that vegetable wholesale in cities is more and more market-oriented and specialized. The state-owned wholesaler is definitely disappeared and the individual operator rises rapidly. The collect modes and price is completely depended on market, collect area is more widely, there do exists enter barrier in the vegetable wholesale business and operators need some capital and they need to use some manage artifice which they can only learn from experience. The fluctuation of vegetable price is the reflection of marketization and specialization. The government is necessary to spend more energy to consider how to provide basic facilities, quality supervision, information release and other public products to create a good environment for fair competition.

Abstract:Non-point pollution (NPP) has become a major issue of environmental degradation in China. Uncertainty, moral hazard, and incomplete knowledge of NPPP make conventional policy instruments applied to point source pollution problems difficult addressing NPP problems. NPP regulatory policies should be designed to induce agricultural producers to change their production practices in ways that improve the environmental. The economic literature on NPP has not considered the possible use of both voluntary and mandatory approaches as complementary parts of a policy package. Factors influencing farmers’ cooperative action to conserve environmental public goods are critical in regulatory policy formation in transitional China with huge amount of small subsistence farmers. Under a changed political environment, a joint effort between government and farmers is the approach most favored to address NPP issues, under which relationships between environmental outcomes and agricultural production must be accounted for.

Abstract:To increase agricultural production and secure the food supply for more than 1.2 billion people, China selected a policy of far-reaching state intervention and the introduction of some market economic principles. By establishing the tariff rate quota system for several sensitive commodities and reducing their import tariffs, China is prepared for joining the WTO to open its domestic agricultural market to international competition. This paper reports the results of cost and price analyses for six main commodities to test the international competitiveness of Chinese agriculture. It showed that Chinese crop production at present is not international competitive as a whole. The results suggest that opening markets by joining the WTO will have multi-layered impacts on the development in Chinese agriculture. Especially in the short term, China's WTO accession will have a braking effect on the crop production. To improve the competitiveness of agriculture, the study recommends that the Chinese government should eliminate the present system-induced disadvantages such as the delivery quota system and the farmland system. Moreover, a widespread use of new technologies through strengthening "green box"-measures is of critical importance for increasing agricultural productivity in China.

Abstract:Productive forces are defined as the most important component of the economic system. Increasing the productivity of the resource potential use of the country’s agricultural sector is possible through the implementation of proper state regulation. The purpose of the research is to generalize the experience of highly developed countries in relation to state regulation of the resource potential productivity in the agricultural sector. Results. The content of the law of saving time and the law of nationalization is described. The purpose of state regulation of productivity of resource potential use of the enterprises in agrarian sector is defined. The inconsistency of the traditional paradigm of agrarian policy with modern realities has been established. The need to harmonize economic interests between the links of the agro-industrial complex is emphasized. An analysis of the experience of the European Union, the United States and Japan in the field of effective agricultural policy has been conducted. The positions of scientists regarding the requirements for the new agrarian paradigm are considered. The own position concerning comparison of characteristics of traditional and new agrarian paradigm is proved. The inexpediency of determining the average indicators that characterize the agricultural sector is proved. The need for state support in the agricultural sector was emphasized. The necessity of strengthening state regulation of resource potential of the agricultural sector is substantiated through the following levers: antitrust policy, preservation and reproduction of resource potential, credit and financial mechanism, taxation system, regulation of foreign economic activity, special target programs, price regulation of agricultural production. The program of complex increase of productivity of resource potential use is offered as the main organizational mechanism. Conclusions. State regulation of increasing the productivity of the resource potential of the agricultural sector should be aimed at the development and harmonization of economic interests between the links of the agro-industrial complex. Abstract:This paper explains the major factors that contribute to the complicated price formation process, as several levels, of fresh fruit and vegetables in the US. Several factors are explored: marketing channels, market structure changes, pricing techniques and promotional impacts, retail responses to supply changes, and price versus value. The paper illustrates with recent examples and research findings that the fresh produce system is dynamic and that simplistic solutions to complex problems are not likely. The paper finishes by suggesting some areas for needed additional research.

How do price (risk) changes influence farmers' preferences to reduce fertilizer application?

Abstract:The decision of farmers to reduce fertilizer applications and, thus, the achievement of agri‐environmental policy goals interacts with market price developments. In this study, we analyze how changes in price levels and volatility over time (i.e., 1991–2006 vs. 2007–2022) affected farmers' preferences to reduce fertilizer application using statistical inferences of stochastic dominances. The analysis considers two cropping systems and fertilizer reduction measures: (i) grassland‐based milk production and the use of legumes and (ii) wheat production and the use of variable rate application. We show that the economic value of reducing fertilizer increased over time in both grassland‐based milk and wheat production. However, only in the case of wheat production was the reduction in fertilizer application observed as more risk‐reducing over time. In contrast, in grassland‐based milk production, the co‐movement of fertilizer and milk prices canceled out the increase in risk reduction. We conclude that changes in market price, along with agri‐environmental subsidies, can increasingly incentivize the reduction of fertilizer use.

Abstract:Many significant advances have been made in agriculture over the past century; we now have the ability, in theory, to feed the entire world population. Nonetheless, “there still remain great hunger, health and environmental concerns remaining to be addressed” (Hazell and Wood 2008). These are not problems that can be solved simply by increasing agricultural production (Alexandratos and Bruinsma 2006), especially considering the environmental issues that if left unchecked could adversely affect food supply in the future (M.E.A. 2005). Even though increasing agricultural yields and developing better varieties have great importance, a significant breakthrough can be made through better management of agricultural supply chains. The potential for better resource efficiency should not be overlooked, especially in view that one-third of the food produced for human consumption is estimated to be lost or wasted globally; some of the loss can be attributed to a lack of coordination of the different actors of the supply chain (Gustavsson et al. 2011). Thus, the issue of how to efficiently meet the demand with the production available is of utmost importance when high levels of perishability are present in the underlying product, as it is the case in fresh produce. For this reason the planning of supply chain will play an increasingly key role in the definition of those products that are successfully marketed.

Abstract:Historically, earnings from farming in many developing countries have been depressed by a pro‐urban bias in own‐country policies, as well as by governments of richer countries favoring their farmers with import barriers and subsidies. Both sets of policies reduced global economic welfare and agricultural trade, and added to global inequality and poverty. Over the past three decades, much progress has been made in reducing agricultural protection in high‐income countries and agricultural disincentives in developing countries. However, plenty of price distortions remain. As well, the propensity of governments to insulate their domestic food market from fluctuations in international prices has not waned. Such insulation contributes to the amplification of international food price fluctuations, yet it does little to advance national food security when food‐importing and food‐exporting countries equally engage in insulating behavior. Thus there is still much scope to improve global economic welfare via multilateral agreement not only to remove remaining trade distortions but also to desist from varying trade barriers when international food prices gyrate. This article summarizes indicators of trends and fluctuations in farm trade barriers before examining unilateral or multilateral trade arrangements, together with complementary domestic measures, that could lead to better global food security outcomes.

Abstract:Abstract Because economic return from fertilization is stochastic, a precise assessment of the risk in fertilizer investment is critical, especially in less‐developed countries. Using corn and wheat fertilizer response data from the Argentine Pampa, production conditions under which use of fertilizer would be economical are determined. Government protection of an obsolete fertilizer industry, high fertilizer prices, and inadequate tax breaks for users retard development of modern fertilizer technology. Despite current prices, fertilization would be possible on a majority of Argentine farms. Lack of use is attributed to the unavailability to farmers of technical and economic information. Social gains from alternative fertilizer price policies are calculate.

Abstract:Although world average food production per person is increasing there are many countries, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa, where production has fallen in recent decades. The economic analysis of the world food problem concerns the dynamics of production, income, growth, demand and trade. The 'law of diminishing returns' suggests that labour incomes fall as population density increases. Capital investment and technological change, particularly with a land-saving bias, can overcome this effect. Such land-saving innovations are less appropriate where population densities are lower, as in much of sub-Saharan Africa. Innovations which reduce risk, such as stress- and disease-resistant crop varieties, may be more attractive to farmers. Communal or government action is required to ensure sustainability of food production; to reduce risk, through price stabilization, possibly crop insurance and contingency plans for famine relief; to promote equity and to ensure competitive market conditions. Public funding of agricultural research is necessary to promote growth in food supplies. If increases in supply do not keep pace with growth in demand, food prices rise, attracting resources into food production. If supply grows faster, food prices and farm incomes fall, driving resources out of agriculture. Resources may not move fast enough to correct imbalances. Primary producers are likely to face deteriorating terms of trade. Linkages between food production and other sectors are weak, so primary exports are not a good basis for economic development. Import substitution strategies may damage agriculture. Structural adjustment regimes have been adopted in some countries to correct imbalances and provide an incentive for farmers to increase production. Associated reductions in public expenditure may have a contrary impact.

Abstract:The preharvest and preslaughter steps of food production constitute a first stage at which food can become contaminated with foodborne and toxigenic pathogens. Contamination at this early stage of food production can lead to amplification as food travels through the production and supply chain, accentuating the crucial need to address hazards and establish science-based metrics that are feasible to implement. This article discusses the preharvest food safety regulatory landscape in the United States, with a specific emphasis on fresh produce crops. Best practices, certification, audit schemes and challenges due to market channels, economies of scales, and grower behavior are considered in relation to the Food Safety Modernization Act. An outlook on the needs to facilitate implementation of the new law, develop educational programs for growers and stakeholders, and continue to better align food safety with environmental goals are presented.
