Abstract:Based on the proof of Labastida-Mari{\~n}o-Ooguri-Vafa conjecture \cite{lmov}, we derive an infinite product formula for Chern-Simons partition functions, the generating function of quantum $\fsl_N$ invariants. Some symmetry properties of the infinite product will also be discussed.

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to construct new topological invariants of compact oriented 3-manifolds and of framed links in such manifolds. Our invariant of (a link in) a closed oriented 3-manifold is a sequence of complex numbers parametrized by complex roots of 1. For a framed link in S 3 the terms of the sequence are equale to the values of the (suitably parametrized) Jones polynomial of the link in the corresponding roots of 1. Thus, for links in S 3 our invariants are essentially equivalent to the Jones polynomial [Jo]. Note that in general we do not know if our invariant of (a framed link in) a closed oriented 3-manifold may be described as the sequence of values of a certain polynomial in the roots of unity. In the case of manifolds with boundary our invariant is a (sequence of) finite dimensional complex linear operators. This produces from each root of unity q a 3-dimensional topological quantum field theory (see [A1]). In particular, for each q we associate with every closed oriented surface a finite dimensional complex linear space. We construct a projective action of the modular group of the surface in this space. Our constructions have been partially inspired by the ideas of E. Witten [Wi] who considered quantum field theory defined by the nonabelian ChernSimons action and applied it to study the topology of 3-manifolds. Using this quantum field theory, Witten has defined (on the physical level of rigor) certain invariants of 3-manifolds and links in 3-manifolds. The constructions of Witten strongly suggested that there may exist a parallel mathematical theory. We believe that our invariants may be viewed as a mathematical realization of the Witten's program.

Abstract:This is the third article in a series devoted to the study of the asymptotic expansions of various quantum invariants related to the twist knots. In this paper, by using the saddle point method developed by Ohtsuki and Yokota, we obtain an asymptotic expansion formula for the Reshetikhin-Turaev invariants of closed hyperbolic 3-manifolds obtained by doing integral $q$-surgery along the twist knots $\mathcal{K}_p$ at the root of unity $e^{\frac{4\pi\sqrt{-1}}{r}}$ ($r$ is odd).

Abstract:We create Resthetikhin-Turaev topological invariants of closed orientable three-manifolds from the quantum supergroup U_q(osp(1|2n)) at certain even roots of unity. To construct the invariants we develop tensor product theorems for finite dimensional modules of U_q(osp(1|2n)) at roots of unity.

Abstract:This is an invited contribution to the 2nd edition of the Encyclopedia of Mathematical Physics. We give an overview of 3-dimensional topological quantum field theories (TQFTs) and the corresponding quantum invariants of 3-manifolds. We recall the main algebraic concepts and constructions, such as modular and spherical fusion categories, the Witten-Reshetikhin-Turaev and Turaev-Viro theories, and the relation between these two TQFTs. We also briefly discuss generalizations of these constructions by providing a (non-exhaustive) review of some recent works on 3-dimensional extended TQFTs, defect TQFTs, homotopy QFTs, and non-semisimple TQFTs.

Asymptotically multiplicative quantum invariants

Abstract:The Euler characteristic and the volume are two best-known multiplicative invariants of manifolds under finite covers. On the other hand, quantum invariants of 3-manifolds are not multiplicative. We show that a perturbative power series, introduced by Dimofte and the first author and shown to be a topological invariant of cusped hyperbolic 3-manifolds by Storzer--Wheeler and the first author, and conjectured to agree with the asymptotics of the Kashaev invariant to all orders in perturbation theory, is asymptotically multiplicative under cyclic covers. Moreover, its coefficients are determined by polynomials constructed out of twisted Neumann--Zagier data. This gives a new $t$-deformation of the perturbative quantum invariants, different than the $x$-deformation obtained by deforming the geometric representation. We illustrate our results with several hyperbolic knots.

Abstract:Using Seifert fibered three-manifold examples of Boileau and Zieschang, we demonstrate that the Reshetikhin-Turaev quantum invariants may be used to provide a sharp lower bound on the Heegaard genus which is strictly larger than the rank of the fundamental group.

Abstract:We describe the simplest non-trivial modular category $\mathfrak{E}$ with two simple objects. Then we extract from this category the invariant for non-oriented links in 3-sphere and two invariants for 3-manifolds: the complex-valued Turaev - Reshetikhin type invariant $tr_{\varepsilon}$ and the real-valued Turaev - Viro type invariant $tv_{\varepsilon}$. These two invariants for 3-manifolds are related by the equality $|tr_{\varepsilon}|^2\cdot (\varepsilon + 2) = tv_{\varepsilon}$, where $\varepsilon$ is a root of the equation $\varepsilon^2 = \varepsilon + 1$. Finally, we show that $tv_{\varepsilon}$ coincides with the well-known $\varepsilon$ invariant for 3-manifolds.

Quantum $K$-invariants via Quot schemes I

Abstract:We study the virtual Euler characteristics of sheaves over Quot schemes of curves, establishing that these invariants fit into a topological quantum field theory (TQFT) valued in $\mathbb{Z}[[q]]$. Utilizing Quot scheme compactifications alongside the TQFT framework, we derive presentations of the small quantum $K$-ring of the Grassmannian. Our approach offers a new method for finding explicit formulas for quantum $K$-invariants.

Abstract:We construct knot invariants categorifying the quantum knot variants for all representations of quantum groups. We show that these invariants coincide with previous invariants defined by Khovanov for sl_2 and sl_3 and by Mazorchuk-Stroppel and Sussan for sl_n. Our technique is to study 2-representations of 2-quantum groups (in the sense of Rouquier and Khovanov-Lauda) categorifying tensor products of irreducible representations. These are the representation categories of certain finite dimensional algebras with an explicit diagrammatic presentation, generalizing the cyclotomic quotient of the KLR algebra. When the Lie algebra under consideration is $\mathfrak{sl}_n$, we show that these categories agree with certain subcategories of parabolic category O for gl_k. We also investigate the finer structure of these categories: they are standardly stratified and satisfy a double centralizer property with respect to their self-dual modules. The standard modules of the stratification play an important role as test objects for functors, as Vermas do in more classical representation theory. The existence of these representations has consequences for the structure of previously studied categorifications. It allows us to prove the non-degeneracy of Khovanov and Lauda's 2-category (that its Hom spaces have the expected dimension) in all symmetrizable types, and that the cyclotomic quiver Hecke algebras are symmetric Frobenius. In work of Reshetikhin and Turaev, the braiding and (co)evaluation maps between representations of quantum groups are used to define polynomial knot invariants. We show that the categorifications of tensor products are related by functors categorifying these maps, which allow the construction of bigraded knot homologies whose graded Euler characteristics are the original polynomial knot invariants.

Abstract:We construct a combinatorial invariant of 3-orbifolds with singular set a link that generalizes the Turaev torsion invariant of 3-manifolds. We give several gluing formulas from which we derive two consequences. The first is an understanding of how the components of the invariant change when we remove a curve from the singular set. The second is a formula relating the invariant of the 3-orbifold to the Turaev torsion invariant of the underlying 3-manifold in the case when the singular set is a nullhomologous knot.

Invariants of links and 3-manifolds from graph configurations

Abstract:In this self-contained book, following Edward Witten, Maxim Kontsevich, Greg Kuperberg and Dylan Thurston, we define an invariant Z of framed links in rational homology 3-spheres, and we study its properties. The invariant Z, which is often called the perturbative expansion of the Chern-Simons theory, is valued in a graded space generated by Jacobi diagrams. It counts embeddings of this kind of unitrivalent graphs in the ambient manifold, in a sense that is explained in the book, using integrals over configuration spaces, or, in a dual way, algebraic intersections in the same configuration spaces. When the ambient manifold is the standard 3-sphere, the invariant Z is a universal Vassiliev link invariant studied by many authors including Guadagnini, Martellini and Mintchev, Bar-Natan, Bott and Taubes, Altschüler and Freidel, Thurston and Poirier... This book contains a more flexible definition of this invariant. We extend Z to a functor on a category of framed tangles in rational homology cylinders and we describe the behaviour of this functor under various operations including some cabling operations. We also compute iterated derivatives of our extended invariant with respect to the discrete derivatives associated to the main theories of finite type invariants. Together with recent results of Massuyeau and Moussard, our computations imply that the restriction of Z to rational homology 3-spheres (equipped with empty links) contains the same information as the Le-Murakami-Ohtsuki LMO invariant for these manifolds. They also imply that the degree one part of Z is the Casson-Walker invariant.

Unified invariant of knots from homological braid action on Verma modules

Abstract:Abstract We re‐build the quantum unified invariant of knots from braid groups' action on tensors of Verma modules. It is a two variables series having the particularity of interpolating both families of colored Jones polynomials and ADO polynomials, that is, semisimple and non‐semisimple invariants of knots constructed from quantum . We prove this last fact in our context that re‐proves (a generalization of) the famous Melvin–Morton–Rozansky conjecture first proved by Bar‐Natan and Garoufalidis. We find a symmetry of nicely generalizing the well‐known one of the Alexander polynomial, ADO polynomials also inherit this symmetry. It implies that quantum non‐semisimple invariants are not detecting knots' orientation. Using the homological definition of Verma modules we express as a generating sum of intersection pairing between fixed Lagrangians of configuration spaces of disks. Finally, we give a formula for using a generalized notion of determinant, that provides one for the ADO family. It generalizes that for the Alexander invariant.

Abstract:We introduce an invariant of a hyperbolic knot which is a map $\alpha\mapsto \boldsymbol{\Phi}_\alpha(h)$ from $\mathbb{Q}/\mathbb{Z}$ to matrices with entries in $\overline{\mathbb{Q}}[[h]]$ and with rows and columns indexed by the boundary parabolic ${\rm SL}_2(\mathbb{C})$ representations of the fundamental group of the knot. These matrix invariants have a rich structure: (a) their $(\sigma_0,\sigma_1)$ entry, where $\sigma_0$ is the trivial and $\sigma_1$ the geometric representation, is the power series expansion of the Kashaev invariant of the knot around the root of unity ${\rm e}^{2\pi{\rm i} \alpha}$ as an element of the Habiro ring, and the remaining entries belong to generalized Habiro rings of number fields; (b) the first column is given by the perturbative power series of Dimofte-Garoufalidis; (c) the columns of $\boldsymbol{\Phi}$ are fundamental solutions of a linear $q$-difference equation; (d) the matrix defines an ${\rm SL}_2(\mathbb{Z})$-cocycle $W_\gamma$ in matrix-valued functions on $\mathbb{Q}$ that conjecturally extends to a smooth function on $\mathbb{R}$ and even to holomorphic functions on suitable complex cut planes, lifting the factorially divergent series $\boldsymbol{\Phi}(h)$ to actual functions. The two invariants $\boldsymbol{\Phi}$ and $W_\gamma$ are related by a refined quantum modularity conjecture which we illustrate in detail for the three simplest hyperbolic knots, the $4_1$, $5_2$ and $(-2,3,7)$ pretzel knots. This paper has two sequels, one giving a different realization of our invariant as a matrix of convergent $q$-series with integer coefficients and the other studying its Habiro-like arithmetic properties in more depth.

Quantum modularity for a closed hyperbolic 3-manifold

Abstract:This paper proves quantum modularity of both functions from $\mathbb{Q}$ and $q$-series associated to the closed manifold obtained by $-1/2$ surgery on the figure-eight knot, $4_1(-1,2)$. In a sense, this is a companion to work of Garoufalidis-Zagier where similar statements were studied in detail for some simple knots. It is shown that quantum modularity for closed manifolds provides a unification of Chen-Yang's volume conjecture with Witten's asymptotic expansion conjecture. Additionally we show that $4_1(-1,2)$ is a counter-example to previous conjectures relating the Witten-Reshetikhin-Turaev invariant and the $\widehat{Z}(q)$ series. This could be reformulated in terms of a "strange identity", which gives a volume conjecture for the $\widehat{Z}$ invariant. Using factorisation of state integrals, we give conjectural but precise $q$-hypergeometric formulae for generating series of Stokes constants of this manifold. We find that the generating series of Stokes constants is related to the 3d index of Dimofte-Gaiotto-Gukov of $4_1(-1,2)$ proposed by Gang-Yonekura. This extends the equivalent conjecture of Garoufalidis-Gu-Mariño for knots to closed manifolds. This work appeared in a similar form in the author's thesis.

Quantum dilogarithms over local fields and invariants of 3-manifolds

Abstract:To each local field (including the real or complex numbers) we associate a quantum dilogarithm and show that it satisfies a pentagon identity and some symmetries. Using an angled version of these quantum dilogarithms, we construct three generalized TQFTs in 2+1 dimensions, one given by a face state-integral and two given by edge state-integrals. Their partition functions rise to distributional invariants of 3-manifolds with torus boundary, conjecturally related to point counting of the $A$-polynomial curve. The partition function of one of these face generalized TQFTs for the case of the real numbers can be expressed either as a multidimensional Barnes-Mellin integral or as a period on a curve which is conjecturally the $A$-polynomial curve.

Abstract:We discuss Vassiliev invariants for virtual knots, expanding upon the theory of quantum virtual knot invariants developed in [1] . In particular, following the theory of quantum invariants we work with 'rotational' virtual knots. We define chord diagrams, weight systems, and give examples of Lie algebra weight systems of rotational virtual knots. We end with a discussion of extended quantum invariants, which capture information that standard quantum invariants of rotational virtuals cannot.
