Abstract:For all small molecule organic solar cells (ASM OSCs), morphology control is still considered a key factor in determining the overall performance. In this study, the morphology of the active layer has been regulated by utilizing a mixed solvent method to improve the performance of the devices. The power conversion efficiency was enhanced from 1.13% to 10.39% for the BTR:Y6 system and from 1.29% to 11.34% for the BTR:N3 system. Consequently, a performance enhancement has been attained that can mainly be attributed to the improvement in the bulk heterojunction molecular crystallinity, leading to the optimization of the phase separation, and thus, an improvement in the exciton separation and charge collection efficiency. These research results, therefore, confirm the utilization of mixed solvent as a simple and effective technique to optimize the ASM OSC blend film morphology and improve the device performance. The Supporting Information is available free of charge at https://pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/acsaem.1c02534.Table S1, effect of the amount of added CB and annealing temperature on the BTR:Y6 system; Table S2, effect of the amount of added CB and annealing temperature on the BTR:N3 system; Table S3, device performance with CB as processing solvent; Table S4, contact angle of water and diiodomethane and surface tension of donor and acceptors; Figure S1, energy level diagram of BTR, Y6, and N3; Figure S2, water and diiodomethane contact angles of the pristine donor BTR and acceptors Y6 and N3; Figure S3, normalized UV–vis absorption spectrum of neat BTR:Y6 film and BTR:Y6 blend films and neat N3 film and BTR:N3 blend films; and Figure S4, two-dimensional GIWAXS patterns of blend films and the profiles of scattering intensity for BTR, Y6, and N3 (PDF)This article has not yet been cited by other publications.
