Abstract:The effect of hydrogen on the impact-abrasion wear behavior in bainitic steel has been investigated. It was found that the microcracking mechanism played a dominant role during impact-wear deformation under the action of hydrogen. The blocky retained austenite was mainly located at the prior austenite boundaries, or packet/block boundaries, which easily transformed into martensite by the action of hydrogen, and became the favorable sites for crack initiation. The microvoids or microcracks grew and coalesced along the high-angle grain boundaries, leading to many flakes generated on the worn surface, and decreased wear resistance.
