Abstract:Barycentric coordinates are commonly used in Euclidean geometry. The adaptation of barycentric coordinates for use in hyperbolic geometry gives rise to hyperbolic barycentric coordinates, known as gyrobarycentric coordinates. The aim of this chapter is to present the road from Einstein’s velocity addition law of relativistically admissible velocities to hyperbolic barycentric coordinates, along with applications.

Abstract:We investigate the oscillatory properties of the quiet solar chromosphere in relation to the underlying photosphere, with particular regard to the effects of the magnetic topology. We perform a Fourier analysis on a sequence of line-of-sight velocities measured simultaneously in a photospheric (Fe I 709.0 nm) and a chromospheric line (Ca II 854.2 nm). The velocities were obtained from full spectroscopic data acquired at high spatial resolution with the Interferometric BIdimensional Spectrometer (IBIS). The field of view encompasses a full supergranular cell, allowing us to discriminate between areas with different magnetic characteristics. We show that waves with frequencies above the acoustic cut-off propagate from the photosphere to upper layers only in restricted areas of the quiet Sun. A large fraction of the quiet chromosphere is in fact occupied by ``magnetic shadows'', surrounding network regions, that we identify as originating from fibril-like structures observed in the core intensity of the Ca II line. We show that a large fraction of the chromospheric acoustic power at frequencies below the acoustic cut-off, residing in the proximity of the magnetic network elements, directly propagates from the underlying photosphere. This supports recent results arguing that network magnetic elements can channel low-frequency photospheric oscillations into the chromosphere, thus providing a way to input mechanical energy in the upper layers.

Abstract:We give a brief account of the key properties of elliptic hypergeometric integrals -- a relatively recently discovered top class of transcendental special functions of hypergeometric type. In particular, we describe an elliptic generalization of Euler's and Selberg's beta integrals, elliptic analogue of the Euler-Gauss hypergeometric function and some multivariable elliptic hypergeometric functions on root systems. The elliptic Fourier transformation and corresponding integral Bailey lemma technique is outlined together with a connection to the star-triangle relation and Coxeter relations for a permutation group. We review also the interpretation of elliptic hypergeometric integrals as superconformal indices of four dimensional supersymmetric quantum field theories and corresponding applications to Seiberg type dualities.

History and Overview

Abstract:The theory uses methods and language of linear algebra to study nonlinear spaces. These techniques can be used particularly to describe analytic geometry of non-linear elliptic, hyperbolic, De Sitter and Anti de Sitter spaces. The main innovation of elaborated theory is space parameterization by introduction of space signature. This parameterization allows studying of different homogeneous spaces in one global framework. When the parameters are used as variables in definitions, axioms, equations, theorems, proofs, all these have exactly the same form that describes the reality of all homogeneous spaces simultaneously. When it is necessary to describe some space particularities or to see the difference between two concrete spaces, the concrete values can be put in parameters of each definition, axiom, equation, theorem and proof.

Abstract:Abstract We review some classical and modern aspects of hypergeometric differential equations, including A -hypergeometric systems of Gel $$'$$ ′ fand, Graev, Kapranov and Zelevinsky. Some recent advances in this theory, such as Euler–Koszul homology, rank jump phenomena, irregularity questions and Hodge theoretic aspects are discussed with more details. We also give some applications of the theory of hypergeometric systems to toric mirror symmetry.

Hyperbolic $P$-Sum and Horospherical $P$-Brunn-minkowski Theory in Hyperbolic Space

Abstract:The classical Brunn-Minkowski theory studies the geometry of convex bodies in Euclidean space by use of the Minkowski sum. It originated from H. Brunn's thesis in 1887 and H. Minkowski's paper in 1903. Because there is no universally acknowledged definition of the sum of two sets in hyperbolic space, there has been no Brunn-Minkowski theory in hyperbolic space since 1903. In this paper, for any p>0 we introduce a sum of two sets in hyperbolic space, and we call it the hyperbolic p-sum. Then we develop a Brunn-Minkowski theory in the hyperbolic space by use of our hyperbolic p-sum, and we call it the horospherical p-Brunn-Minkowski theory. Let K be any smooth horospherically convex bounded domain in the hyperbolic space ℍ^n+1. Through calculating the variation of the k-th modified quermassintegral of K by use of our hyperbolic p-sum, we introduce the horospherical k-th p-surface area measure associated with K on the unit sphere 𝕊^n. For k=0, we introduce the horospherical p-Minkowski problem, which is the prescribed horospherical p-surface area measure problem. Through designing and studying a new volume preserving flow, we solve the existence of solutions to the horospherical p-Minkowski problem for all p ∈ (-∞,+∞) when the given measure is even. For 1 ≤ k ≤ n-1, we introduce the horospherical p-Christoffel-Minkowski problem, which is the prescribed horospherical k-th p-surface area measure problem. We solve the existence of solutions to the horospherical p-Christoffel-Minkowski problem for p∈(-n, +∞) under appropriate assumption on the given measure. We also study the Brunn-Minkowski inequalities and the Minkowski inequalities for domains in the hyperbolic space.

In particular, an elliptic analogue of the Gauss hypergeometric function and some of its properties are described. Abstract:We introduce two notions of hyperbolicity for not necessarily Kähler even balanced $n$-dimensional compact complex manifolds $X$. The first, called {\it SKT hyperbolicity}, generalises Gromov's Kähler hyperbolicity by means of SKT metrics. The second, called {\it Gauduchon hyperbolicity} by means of Gauduchon metrics. Our first main result in this paper asserts that every SKT hyperbolic $X$ is also Kobayashi/Brody hyperbolic and every Gauduchon hyperbolic $X$ is divisorially hyperbolic. The second main result is to prove a vanishing theorem for the $L^2$ harmonic spaces on the universal cover of a SKT hyperbolic manifold.

Abstract:This survey paper contains an elementary exposition of Casson and Rivin's technique for finding the hyperbolic metric on a 3-manifold M with toroidal boundary. We also survey a number of applications of this technique. The method involves subdividing M into ideal tetrahedra and solving a system of gluing equations to find hyperbolic shapes for the tetrahedra. The gluing equations decompose into a linear and non-linear part. The solutions to the linear equations form a convex polytope A. The solution to the non-linear part (unique if it exists) is a critical point of a certain volume functional on this polytope. The main contribution of this paper is an elementary proof of Rivin's theorem that a critical point of the volume functional on A produces a complete hyperbolic structure on M.

Abstract:A definition of hyperbolic meromorphic functions is given and then we discuss the dynamical behavior and the thermodynamic formalism of hyperbolic functions on their Julia sets. We prove the important expanding properties for hyperbolic functions on the complex plane or with respect to the Euclidean metric. We establish the Bowen formula for hyperbolic functions on the complex plane, that is, the Poincare exponent equals to the Hausdorff dimension of the radial Julia set and furthermore, we prove that all the results in the Walters' theory hold for hyperbolic functions on the Riemann sphere.
