Abstract:We give an introduction to basic harmonic analysis and representation theory for homogeneous spaces $Z=G/H$ attached to a real reductive Lie group $G$. A special emphasis is made to the case where $Z$ is real spherical.

Abstract:Braverman and Kazhdan proposed a conjecture, later refined by Ngô and broadened to the framework of spherical varieties by Sakellaridis, that asserts that affine spherical varieties admit Schwartz spaces, Fourier transforms, and Poisson summation formulae. The first author in joint work with B.~Liu and later the first two authors proved these conjectures for certain spherical varieties $Y$ built out of triples of quadratic spaces. However, in these works the Fourier transform was only proven to exist. In the present paper we give, for the first time, an explicit formula for the Fourier transform on $Y.$ We also prove that it is unitary in the nonarchimedean case. As preparation for this result, we give explicit formulae for Fourier transforms on Braverman-Kazhdan spaces attached to maximal parabolic subgroups of split, simple, simply connected groups. These Fourier transforms are of independent interest, for example, from the point of view of analytic number theory.

Abstract:We study the Bloch and the little Bloch spaces of harmonic functions on the real hyperbolic ball. We show that the Bergman projections from to , and from to are onto. We verify that the dual space of the hyperbolic harmonic Bergman space is and its predual is . Finally, we obtain atomic decompositions of Bloch functions as series of Bergman reproducing kernels.

Abstract:Let $X=G/H$ be a reductive homogeneous space with $H$ noncompact, endowed with a $G$-invariant pseudo-Riemannian structure. Let $L$ be a reductive subgroup of $G$ acting properly on $X$ and $\Gamma$ a torsion-free discrete subgroup of $L$. Under the assumption that the complexification $X_{\mathbb C}$ is $L_{\mathbb C}$-spherical, we prove an explicit correspondence between spectral analysis on the standard locally homogeneous space $X_{\Gamma}=\Gamma\backslash X$ and on $\Gamma\backslash L$ via branching laws for the restriction to $L$ of irreducible representations of $G$. In particular, we prove that the pseudo-Riemannian Laplacian on $X_{\Gamma}$ is essentially self-adjoint, and that it admits an infinite point spectrum when $X_{\Gamma}$ is compact or $\Gamma\subset L$ is arithmetic. The proof builds on structural results for invariant differential operators on spherical homogeneous spaces with overgroups.

Abstract:In this article we give an overview of the Plancherel theory for Riemannian symmetric spaces Z = G/K. In particular we illustrate recently developed methods in Plancherel theory for real spherical spaces by explicating them for Riemannian symmetric spaces, and we explain how Harish-Chandra's Plancherel theorem for Z can be proven from these methods.

Abstract:n a recent experiment, we reported the time-domain intensity noise measurement of a single photon source relying on single molecule fluorescence control. In this article we present data processing, starting from photocount timestamps. The theoretical analytical expression of the time-dependent Mandel parameter Q(T) of an intermittent single photon source is derived from ON<->OFF dynamics . Finally, source intensity noise analysis using the Mandel parameter is quantitatively compared to the usual approach relying on the time autocorrelation function, both methods yielding the same molecular dynamical parameters.

Abstract:We define harmonic maps between sub-Riemannian manifolds by generalizing known definitions for Riemannian manifolds. We establish conditions for when a horizontal map into a Lie group with a left-invariant metric structure is a harmonic map. We show that sub-Riemannian harmonic maps can be abnormal or normal, just as sub-Riemannian geodesics. We illustrate our study by presenting the equations for harmonic maps into the Heisenberg group.

Abstract:We define a class of spaces on which one may generalise the notion of compactness following motivating examples from higher-dimensional number theory. We establish analogues of several well-known topological results (such as Tychonoff's Theorem) for such spaces. We also discuss several possible applications of this framework, including the theory of harmonic analysis on non-locally compact groups.

History and Overview

Abstract:The theory uses methods and language of linear algebra to study nonlinear spaces. These techniques can be used particularly to describe analytic geometry of non-linear elliptic, hyperbolic, De Sitter and Anti de Sitter spaces. The main innovation of elaborated theory is space parameterization by introduction of space signature. This parameterization allows studying of different homogeneous spaces in one global framework. When the parameters are used as variables in definitions, axioms, equations, theorems, proofs, all these have exactly the same form that describes the reality of all homogeneous spaces simultaneously. When it is necessary to describe some space particularities or to see the difference between two concrete spaces, the concrete values can be put in parameters of each definition, axiom, equation, theorem and proof.

Abstract:Given a dilation matrix M, a so-called space of M-positive vectors in the Euclidean space is introduced and studied. An algebraic structure of this space is similar to the positive half-line equipped with the termwise addition modulo 2, which is used in the Walsh analysis. The role of harmonics is played by some analogues of the classical Walsh functions. The concept of Fourier transform is introduced, and the Poisson summation formula, Plancherel theorem, Vilenkin-Chrestenson formulas and so on are proved. A kind of analogue of the Schwartz class is studied. This class consists of functions such that both the function itself and its Fourier transform have compact support.

Abstract:We establish the analog for real homogeneous spherical varieties of the Scattering Theorem of Sakellaridis and Venkatesh (Periods and harmonic analysis on spherical varieties, Asterisque 396, (2017), Theorem 7.3.1) for p-adic wavefront spherical varieties. We use properties of the Harish-Chandra homomorphism of Knop for invariant differential operators of the variety, special coverings of the variety and spectral projections. Our main result depend on an analog of the Discrete Series Conjecture of Sakellaridis and Venkatesh (\cite{SV}, Conjecture 9.4.6). Their result quoted above depends on this Discrete series conjecture.

Abstract:General expository paper concerning topics in Hilbert spaces, spectral theory, and harmonic analysis. The preliminary section includes basic Banach algebra and Hilbert space theory with a digression on Riesz bases. The second and third sections are focused on deriving the spectral theorem for Hilbert spaces in finite and arbitrary dimension, respectively. The fourth and fifth sections present applications of the general theory: first to finite abelian groups, then to the space $L^2(S^1,\mu)$.

Classical harmonic analysis viewed through the prism of noncommutative geometry

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to bridge noncommutative geometry with classical harmonic analysis on Banach spaces, focusing primarily on both classical and noncommutative $\mathrm{L}^p$ spaces. Introducing a notion of Banach Fredholm module, we define new abelian groups, $\mathrm{K}^{0}(\mathcal{A},\mathscr{B})$ and $\mathrm{K}^{1}(\mathcal{A},\mathscr{B})$, of $\mathrm{K}$-homology associated with an algebra $\mathcal{A}$ and a suitable class $\mathscr{B}$ of Banach spaces, such as the class of $\mathrm{L}^p$-spaces. We establish index pairings of these groups with the $\mathrm{K}$-theory groups of the algebra $\mathcal{A}$. Subsequently, by considering (noncommutative) Hardy spaces, we uncover the natural emergence of Hilbert transforms, leading to Banach Fredholm modules and culminating in index theorems. Moreover, by associating each reasonable sub-Markovian semigroup with a <<Banach noncommutative manifold>>, we explain how this leads to (possibly kernel-degenerate) Banach Fredholm modules, thereby revealing the role of vectorial Riesz transforms in this context. Overall, our approach significantly integrates the analysis of operators on $\mathrm{L}^p$-spaces into the expansive framework of noncommutative geometry, offering new perspectives.

Branching laws for spherical harmonics on superspaces in exceptional cases

Abstract:It turns out that harmonic analysis on the superspace R^{m|2n} is quite parallel to the classical theory on the Euclidean space R^{m} unless the superdimension M:=m-2n is even and non-positive. The underlying symmetry is given by the orthosymplectic superalgebra osp(m|2n). In this paper, when the symmetry is reduced to osp(m-1|2n) we describe explicitly the corresponding branching laws for spherical harmonics on R^{m|2n} also in exceptional cases. In unexceptional cases, these branching laws are well-known and quite analogous as in the Euclidean framework.
