Abstract:The natural corrosion inhibition from the Senna occidentalis extract (SOE) was examined for the possible protection of the stainless steel (SS)-410, a material commonly used in the desalination plant. The Senna occidentalis is easily available, renewable, biodegradable, and most important safe for the environment and people. The atomic force microscope results suggest that the application of Senna occidentalis extract (SOE) reduces the average surface roughness of steel by 125.53 nm. The weight loss study for corrosion tests showed an inhibition efficiency of 94.63%, which was consistent with the result of the electrochemical study, which demonstrated an efficiency of 94.07% at 300 ppm of Senna occidentalis extract (SOE). This indicates an improvement in efficiency when increasing the SOE concentration from 100 to 300 ppm in the acid solution. The TAFEL suggested that the SOE behavior is a mixed type of inhibitor. The SOE approximately conformed to Langmuir's adsorption isotherm. Density functional theory and Monte Carlo (MC) simulation were utilized in computational studies to assess the inhibition efficiency. The adsorption energies of the splilanthol SOE ingredients on the Fe (110) plan were calculated by using the MC simulation process.
