Abstract: Abstract — With the deepening of the research on the connotation of cultural heritage and human geography, cultural landscape takes landscape as a cultural product, integrates and blends cultural and natural heritage to explore the cultural value behind its material landscape. Qikou ancient town is a typical traditional settlement with homomorphism of mountain and water veins. Its cultural accumulation and natural landscape play an important role in its development. Therefore, this paper will combine the material and cultural elements of Qikou ancient town to analyze the composition of the cultural landscape of the ancient town, and explore the protection and utilization of the cultural landscape of Qikou ancient town from the four aspects of ecology, form, cultural form and business form, so as to provide effective strategies for the development of the ancient town.

Abstract:At present,the research on environmental evaluation for land in China is seldom reported.Based on the foreign experience about environmental evaluation of land,the authors took the city of Hangzhou as an example,and then applied the land environmental evaluation in land planning,and finally gave some suggestions on land use in China.In this paper,the authors chose biodiversity,content of underground water,content of soil organic matter,topography,atmosphere environment quality as evaluation factors.According to the weighting coefficients of evaluation factors in environmental evaluation,the environment sensitive area of Hangzhou was divided into three parts based on GIS technique.Finally,the selection of indices in land environmental evaluation,policy-making,ex ante appraisal and ecological recovery,etc.,for Hangzhou city were suggested.

Research into the Preservation and Renewal Patterns of Ancient Towns:A Case Study of Heping,Fujian,P.R.China

Abstract:Preservation and renewal of ancient towns has become a difficult problem as tourism has increased in these communities.This article presents a case study of Heping ancient town in Northern Fujian province,P.R.China.Based on interviews with local residents and additional investigation,the authors maintain that the preservation and renewal problems resulted from a poor regional economy,declining historical function and various value concepts.The authors also draw on preservation and renewal experiences and lessons in the ancient towns of Zhouzhuang and Lijiang.Preservation and construction contradictions can be resolved and the sustainable development and protection of ancient towns promoted only if the following are present: practical conditions in different areas of the town,effective government-led functions at all levels,wide public participation,and multiple preservation and renewal patterns supported by planners and architects.

Study on the Coupling Relationship between Landscape pattern and Water Environment Quality Based on GIS - A Case Study of the Jinghang Grant Canal (Hongzhou Section)

Abstract:In this paper, a case study on the spatial and temporal variation characteristics of water environment quality in the Jinghang Grant Canal (Hongzhou Section) and coupling relationship between the landscape pattern and water environment quality is carried out based on the Land sat TM image of remote sensing and GIS platform, combining environmental quality monitoring and statistic sampling data of Hangzhou city. Quantitative research shows that: (1) The analysis data of water quality in 11 monitoring sections of the Jinghang Grant Canal (Hangzhou section) shows that the water quality is aggravating from south to north; (2) Based on A value evaluation method, the water quality analysis shows that there are 6 monitoring sections in 11 monitoring sections of the Jinghang Grant Canal (Hangzhou section) under the pollution standard, including 4 secondary pollution above monitoring sections, accounting for 36.4% of the total; (3) The study on the relationship between landscape structure components and water quality factor shows that the water landscape has a significant influence on water quality, but agricultural water is opposites, building landscape has a negative influence with water, but no significant; (4) Research shows that most indices of the landscape pattern have not significant relationship with water environmental quality, but the new building indices, such as RACW and RAW, have significant relationship with water environmental quality.; (5) Studies show that landscape pattern has a strong effect on water environment quality, which can provide theoretical basis for relevant studies. But the coupling mechanism is further research.

Abstract:This paper presents an in-depth study and analysis of the spatial distribution of urban landscapes in Jiangnan cities under the influence of geomorphology and extracts the characteristics to explore the construction mechanism from the perspective of spatial functionality based on the analysis of the process and content of landscape construction. The construction of cities and ponds originated from political influence, environmental constraints, and architectural techniques; the landscape pattern of the combined shape and complementary potential originated from the creation of various types of gardens in various dynasties; the complementary planning of landscape, the traffic creation of the plain and water network, and the production factors of agriculture and sanitation influenced the construction of the countryside landscape; the traditional view of feng shui, poetry and painting, the eight scenes of the city and countryside, and other humanistic intentions influenced the overall situation of the town and the landscape. This paper extracts and analyzes the spatial distribution characteristics of Jiangnan city landscape from several perspectives, and the results can clearly show the distribution of landscape features under the influence of geomorphology and can give the best layout suggestions. From the perspective of spatial variability, the main features of traditional landscape construction in Jiangnan are analyzed through three levels: the characteristics of the process of humanized landscapes evolving into natural landscapes, the comparative analysis of similarities and differences in the construction of cities and towns, and the characteristics of the system of regional landscape construction. Finally, the changes in the landscape pattern of the region under the influence of globalization are analyzed through the changing characteristics of landscape architecture.

Abstract:The Hani terrace landscape located in the mountainous areas of Southwestern China has a history of 1300 years and is a classic example of human-environment harmony. This study investigates the spatial distribution and pattern characteristics of land cover in the landscape using geographical information system and remote-sensing techniques. With the synthetic consideration of both physical and cultural factors, the ecological stability of the landscape was discussed. The results showed that terrace' and forest' are dominant in the landscape accounting for 43.80% and 44.90% of the total area, respectively. A clear vertical land-cover distribution of higher forest-middle village-lower terrace-lowest river' can be found on steep slopes. The local climate and its variation with elevation are essential for the stable local water cycle, and the spatial layout of the landscape elements allows for effective material and energy flow within the landscape. Moreover, the obligatory forest and water resource conservation due to the unique history and culture of Hani adds a social layer of protection. The sustainable development of the Hani landscape is expected to provide valuable insights for the present land and environmental management.

Abstract:Ancient commercial town of Hongjiang is situated at the upper reaches of the Yuan River in the west of Hunan Province.Relied on the peculiar advantage in traffic location,it once became a famous merchandise carrying trade town,a comprehensive town with economic-political-military-religious-cultural functions and a three-dimensional landscape city with regional characteristics in the southwest area of China in some period of the history.That has been the result of the integrative effects from physical geography and social-economic environment in southwest region of China since the Ming-Qing dynasties.Such special commercial town with intact style and features from the Middle Ages is rare in China,so it is of very high historical cultural value,scientific investigation value and landscape aesthetic value,and should be well-preserved and reasonably utilized.The strategies for its exploitation and utilization should be started from the improvement of management system,the cultural connotations of the town should be further explored,and the emphasis be on the cultural tourism.A new town might be built near the old town for replacing most of the functions of the latter;the historical cultural resources of the ancient town should be preserved as a whole,including the cultural atmosphere.At the same time,the preservation needs the active participation of the local inhabitants;they should be given their share of the economic benefit brought by exploitation and utilization of the ancient commercial town.Only by this way,the aim for preservation could be achieved.

Abstract:Abstract In the conservation of the historical landscape within the Guangfu Ancient City Core Protection Area, traditional descriptions via drawings and textual narratives often exhibit subjective biases. To address this, a theoretical model for the historical architectural landscape has been developed to objectively measure and characterize the spatial patterns and morphologies of the landscape. This study introduces Exploratory Spatial Data Analysis (ESDA) techniques, utilizing spatial weights and spatial correlation measures as primary analytical tools. Additionally, meta-cellular automata are employed to simulate the spatial and temporal evolution of the historical landscape. Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) technologies have been leveraged to establish a spatial database and facilitate the visualization of the historical landscape’s evolutionary processes. This integrated model and technological approach enable a detailed analysis of the architectural landscape characteristics and the spatial structure’s evolution within the study area. The findings reveal distinct spatial distribution characteristics, with an undulation index ranging from 5 to 20 and a predominant index over 7, accounting for 15.67% of the land. Based on these insights, the study proposes strategic interventions to safeguard the historical integrity of Guangfu Ancient City’s core conservation area.
Features and Protection-Utilization of Kaiping Diaolou and Villages 0n the Basis of Comparative Analysis

Abstract:Since 2000,three ancient villages in China had became the World Cultural Heritage.They are Kaiping Diaolou in Guangdong province,Ancient Villages in Southern Anhui-Xidi and Hongcun and Fujian Tulou in Fujian province.After they became world famous,their existing a series of outstanding issues in protection and utilization of the vernacular architecture and the villages.This paper summarizes the general problems in protecting and utilizing the ancient villages world heritage in China,from different aspects involved the historical background,natural environment,traffic location and the function and characteristic of the building,taking Kaiping Diaolou and villages as an example that making a detailed analysis.The analysis is made a comparison with Fujian Tulou and ancient villages in southern Anhui.The conclusion is that in different context,the path of protection and utilization of vernacular architecture and villages should be different.This path of Kaiping is expected to give a certain reference to the vernacular architecture and ancient villages in the similar context.

Abstract:Through the field study on Luocheng Town that is a traditional ancient town in Southern Sichuan,the paper has concluded existing resources and current situation of it.After the illustration of the general situation and protection value of Luocheng ancient town,it has analyzed the protection situation and existing problems,and considered that its landscape and environment has been seriously destroyed and architectures have been damaged gravely,protection capitals are lacked and the publicity of ancient towns protection is insufficient.In view of above problems,constructive suggestions have been proposed for the protection and development of ancient towns.It should conduct reasonable protection and planning,adjust functional structure of ancient towns,retain the completeness and integrity of ancient towns,and enhance and improve residents' protection consciousness,so as to promote the protection and sustainable development of traditional ancient towns in Southern Sichuan.
