Abstract:Let N ( G ) be the set of sizes of the conjugacy classes of G , and let Ω be a set of relatively prime integers. We prove that if N(G)=∏n∈Ω{1,n} , then G≃A×∏Pi where A is an abelian group, P i is a Sylow p i -subgroup.

Abstract:For a simple algebraic group $G$ over an algebraically closed field, we study products of normal subsets. For this we mark the nodes of the Dynkin diagram of $G$. We use two types of labels, a binary marking and a labeling with non-negative integers. The first is used to recognize large conjugacy classes which appear in a product of two conjugacy classes while the second is used to keep track of multiplicities of regular diagrams. In particular, we formulate sufficient conditions in terms of marked diagrams, for a product of normal subsets in $G$ to contain regular semisimple elements.

Abstract:Let $G \leqslant {\rm Sym}(\Omega)$ be a finite permutation group and recall that the base size of $G$ is the minimal size of a subset of $\Omega$ with trivial pointwise stabiliser. There is an extensive literature on base sizes for primitive groups, but there are very few results for primitive groups of product type. In this paper, we initiate a systematic study of bases in this setting. Our first main result determines the base size of every product type primitive group of the form $L \wr P \leqslant {\rm Sym}(\Omega)$ with soluble point stabilisers, where $\Omega = \Gamma^k$, $L \leqslant {\rm Sym}(\Gamma)$ and $P \leqslant S_k$ is transitive. This extends recent work of Burness on almost simple primitive groups. We also obtain an expression for the number of regular suborbits of any product type group of the form $L \wr P$ and we classify the groups with a unique regular suborbit under the assumption that $P$ is primitive, which involves extending earlier results due to Seress and Dolfi. We present applications on the Saxl graphs of base-two product type groups and we conclude by establishing several new results on base sizes for general product type primitive groups.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a finite group and $N(G)$ be the set of its conjugacy class sizes excluding~$1$. Let us define a directed graph $\Gamma(G)$, the set of vertices of this graph is $N(G)$ and the vertices $x$ and $y$ are connected by a directed edge from $x$ to $y$ if $x$ divides $y$ and $N(G)$ does not contain a number $z$ different from $x$ and $y$ such that $x$ divides $z$ and $z$ divides $y$. We will call the graph $\Gamma(G)$ the conjugate graph of the group $G$. In this work, we will study finite groups whose conjugate graph is a set of points.

A subset $ S $ of $ G $ is said to normally generate $ G $ if $ G $ is the normal closure of $ S $ in $ G. $ In this case, any element of $ G $ can be written as a product of conjugates of elements of $ S $ and their inverses. If $ g\in G $ and $ S $ is a normally generating subset of $ G, $ then we write $ \| g\|_{S} $ for the length of a shortest word in $ \mbox{Conj}_{G}(S^{\pm 1}): = \{h^{-1}sh | h\in G, s\in S \, \mbox{or} \, s{^{-1}}\in S \} $ needed to express $ g. $ For any normally generating subset $ S $ of $ G, $ we write $ \|G\|_{S} = \mbox{sup}\{\|g\|_{S} \, |\, \, g\in G\}. $ Moreover, we write $ \Delta(G) $ for the supremum of all $ \|G\|_{S}, $ where $ S $ is a finite normally generating subset of $ G, $ and we call $ \Delta(G) $ the conjugacy diameter of $ G. $ In this paper, we derive the conjugacy diameters of the semidihedral $ 2 $-groups, the generalized quaternion groups and the modular $ p $-groups. Abstract:Let $P$ be a probability on a finite group $G$, ${P^{(n)}}$ $n$-fold convolution of $P$ on $G$. Under mild condition, ${P^{(n)}}$ at $n \to \infty $ converges to the uniform probability on the group $G$. If $A = \left\{ {g \in G,\;P\left( g \right) \ne 0} \right\}$ be the carrier of the probability $P$, then ${A^n} = \left\{ {{a_1} \cdot ... \cdot {a_n},\;\;{a_1},...,{a_n} \in A} \right\}$ be the carrier of probability ${P^{(n)}}$. One of necessary and sufficient conditions for the mentioned convergence is: sequence ${A^n}$ at $n \to \infty $ stabilizes on $G$, i.e. ${A^k}$ = ${A^{k + 1}} = ... = G$ for a natural number $k$. In other words, product of some multipliers equal to $A$ is $G$. The carrier $A$ is in general case any nonempty subset of group $G$. In the paper we find a condition under which product of some subsets of $G$ is $G$.

Abstract:Given a finite group G , denote by cs ( G ) the set of the sizes of the conjugacy classes of G and by Cent ( G ) the set of the centralizers of elements of G . Consider a prime p and integers s≥2 and n≥2 , with gcd (p,s)=1 . In this paper, some relations between cs ( G ) and |Cent(G)| are established in the case where cs(G)={1,pn,pn−1s} . Further, when p∈{2,3} , we determine the values of s and the structure of a finite group G such that cs(G)={1,pn,pn−1s} . We also describe the structure of an AC-group G such that [G:Z(G)]=3ns and |Cent(G)|=1+∑i=0n3i , where gcd (3,s)=1 .

Abstract:Given a group $G$ and an endomorphism $\varphi$ of $G$, two elements $x, y \in G$ are said to be $\varphi$-conjugate if $x = gy \varphi(g)^{-1}$ for some $g \in G$. The number of equivalence classes for this relation is the Reidemeister number $R(\varphi)$ of $\varphi$. The set $\{R(\psi) \mid \psi \in \mathrm{Aut}(G)\}$ is called the Reidemeister spectrum of $G$. We investigate Reidemeister numbers and spectra on direct products of finitely many groups and determine what information can be derived from the individual factors.

A character theoretic formula for base size

Abstract:A base for a permutation group $G$ acting on a set $\Omega$ is a sequence $\mathcal{B}$ of points of $\Omega$ such that the pointwise stabiliser $G_{\mathcal{B}}$ is trivial. The base size of $G$ is the size of a smallest base for $G$. We derive a character theoretic formula for the base size of a class of groups admitting a certain kind of irreducible character. Moreover, we prove a formula for enumerating the non-equivalent bases for $G$ of size $l\in\mathbb{N}$. As a consequence of our results, we present a very short, entirely algebraic proof of the formula of Mecenero and Spiga~\cite{MeSp} for the base size of the symmetric group $\mathrm{S}_n$ acting on the $k$-element subsets of $\{1,2,3,\dots,n\}$. Our methods also provide a formula for the base size of many product-type permutation groups.

Abstract:Motivated by the recent result that left-orderability of a group $G$ is intimately connected to circular orderability of direct products $G \times \mathbb{Z}/n\mathbb{Z}$, we provide necessary and sufficient cohomological conditions that such a direct product be circularly orderable. As a consequence of the main theorem, we arrive at a new characterization for the fundamental group of a rational homology 3-sphere to be left-orderable. Our results imply that for mapping class groups of once-punctured surfaces, and other groups whose actions on $S^1$ are cohomologically rigid, the products $G \times \mathbb{Z}/n\mathbb{Z}$ are seldom circularly orderable. We also address circular orderability of direct products in general, dealing with the cases of factor groups admitting a bi-invariant circular ordering, and iterated direct products whose factor groups are amenable.

Abstract:We analyse the subgroup structure of direct products of groups. Earlier work on this topic has revealed that higher finiteness properties play a crucial role in determining which groups appear as subgroups of direct products of free groups or limit groups. Here, we seek to relate the finiteness properties of a subgroup to the way it is embedded in the ambient product. To this end we formulate a conjecture on finiteness properties of fibre products of groups. We present different approaches to this conjecture, proving a general result on finite generation of homology groups of fibre products and, for certain special cases, results on the stronger finiteness properties F_n and FP_n.

Abstract:A subset $\{g_1, \ldots , g_d\}$ of a finite group $G$ invariably generates $G$ if $\{g_1^{x_1}, \ldots , g_d^{x_d}\}$ generates $G$ for every choice of $x_i \in G$. The Chebotarev invariant $C(G)$ of $G$ is the expected value of the random variable $n$ that is minimal subject to the requirement that $n$ randomly chosen elements of $G$ invariably generate $G$. In this paper, we show that if $G$ is a nonabelian finite simple group, then $C(G)$ is absolutely bounded. More generally, we show that if $G$ is a direct product of $k$ nonabelian finite simple groups, then $C(G)=\log{k}/\log{\alpha(G)}+O(1)$, where $\alpha$ is an invariant completely determined by the proportion of derangements of the primitive permutation actions of the factors in $G$. It follows from the proof of the Boston-Shalev conjecture that $C(G)=O(\log{k})$. We also derive sharp bounds on the expected number of generators for $G$.

Quantifying conjugacy separability in wreath products of groups

Abstract:We study generalisations of conjugacy separability in restricted wreath products of groups. We provide an effective upper bound for $\mathcal{C}$-conjugacy separability of a wreath product $A \wr B$ in terms of the $\mathcal{C}$-conjugacy separability of $A$ and $B$, the growth of $\mathcal{C}$-cyclic subgroup separability of $B$, and the $\mathcal{C}$-residual girth of $B.$ As an application, we provide a characterisation of when $A \wr B$ is $p$-conjugacy separable. We use this characterisation to the provide for each prime $p$ an example of wreath products with infinite base group that are $p$-conjugacy separable. We also provide asymptotic upper bounds for conjugacy separability for wreath products of nilpotent groups which include the lamplighter groups and provide asymptotic upper bounds for conjugacy separability of the free metabelian groups. Along the way, we provide a polynomial upper bound for the shortest conjugator between two elements of length at most $n$ in a finitely generated nilpotent group.

Abstract:In a finite group G , ρ(G) denotes the product of element orders of G . Let p,q,r,s and t be prime numbers. Recently, it was proved that Cp3 , C pq , Cp2q and C pqrs are characterizable by the product of element orders, and if ρ(G)=ρ(Cpqr) , then G≅A5 or Cpqr . In this paper, we continue this work and we show that Cp×A5 (for p > 5) and C pqrst are characterizable by the product of element orders. In the rest of the paper, we show that if ρ(G)=ρ(Cpqr)sρ(Cs)p2q, then (p,q,r,s)=(2,3,5,11) and G≅L2(11) . This shows that the structure of ρ(G) uniquely determined L2(11) and so L2(11) is the only group with this form of ρ(G) .

Abstract:We prove that the product of a subset and a normal subset inside any finite simple non‐abelian group G grows rapidly. More precisely, if A and B are two subsets with B normal and neither of them is too large inside G , then |AB|⩾|A||B|1−ε where ε>0 can be taken arbitrarily small. This is a somewhat surprising strengthening of a theorem of Liebeck, Schul, and Shalev.
