Abstract:Applying the advanced CALYPSO structure searching method and first principles calculations, we predict a novel superhard structure for Ti2B5, which belongs to the monoclinic C2/m space group. The previously known Hf2B5, W2B5, and δ-V2O5-type structures are also selected as the potential structures for Ti2B5. It is shown that the predicted C2/m structure is the most stable phase among these considered structures within the range of 0-100GPa. The calculations of the phonon dispersion and elastic constants affirm that the predicted C2/m phase is dynamically and mechanically stable. The predicted high shear modulus (249 GPa) and large hardness (46.9 GPa) show that it should be anunderlying superhard material. In addition, the elastic anisotropy of Ti2B5 is also explored by investigating the directional dependence of the Young's modulus, shear modulus, and Poisson's ratio as well as some well anisotropy indices. The particular analyses of the density of states and electron charge density distribution verify that the strong B-B and Ti-B covalent bonds in the predicted C2/m-Ti2B5 phase playan importantpartin its hardness and structural stability.

Abstract:The crystal structure of Tl2O·11Al2O3 has been determined from three-dimensional X-ray data. The compound forms hexagonal crystals with a = 5.598, c = 22.93 Å, and Z = 1 in space group P63mmc. The structure has been refined by least-squares methods with anisotropic temperature factors to an R value of 0.063 for 351 independent reflections collected by diffractometry. The crystal is composed of alternate stackings of the spinel block and the ion-conducting layer, both of which are linked together by the covalently bonded corner-sharing O3AlOAlO3 tetrahedra along the c-axis. The occupational percentages of the mobile ion were determined from the Fourier synthesis and compared with those of Ag- and Na-β-alumina.

Abstract:A new three-dimensional complex [TM2(C5H3N(COO)(2))(3)(H2O)(3))] (.) H2O (PDC = 3,5-pyridinedicarboxylate), has been synthesized and its structure determined by x-ray single crystal diffraction methods. Complex) crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2(1)/n with a=14.579(4), b=11.193(3), c=14.839(5)A, beta=94.009(6)degrees, U=2415.5(13)Angstrom(3). Two independent PDC ligands bridge Tm-111 ions from different orientations to form a network. Thermogravimetric analyses on compound I show its high structural stability to 410degreesC.

Abstract:Explorative high‐pressure/high‐temperature syntheses (7 GPa, 800 °C) starting from Er2O3, CdO, and H3BO3 yielded single‐crystals of the hitherto unknown compound ErCd2B7O13(BO(OH)3). This compound crystallizes trigonally in the non‐centrosymmetric space group R3c with the unit cell parameters a = 8.8418(2) Å, c = 22.4972(8) Å, and 6 formula units per cell. The crystal structure is composed by corner‐sharing trigonal planar [BO3] and tetrahedral [BO4] groups, forming a complex three‐dimensional framework. In this article, the structural data and characteristics of ErCd2B7O13(BO(OH)3) are presented in detail. Furthermore, the compound ́s infrared spectrum is discussed.
