Abstract:First we recall a method of computing scalar products of eigenfunctions of a Sturm-Liouville operator. This method is then applied to Macdonald and Gegenbauer functions, which are eigenfunctions of the Bessel, resp. Gegenbauer operators. The computed scalar products are well defined only for a limited range of parameters. To extend the obtained formulas to a much larger range of parameters, we introduce the concept of a generalized integral. The (standard as well as generalized) integrals of Macdonald and Gegenbauer functions have important applications to operator theory. Macdonald functions can be used to express the integral kernels of the resolvent (Green functions) of the Laplacian on the Euclidean space in any dimension. Similarly, Gegenbauer functions appear in Green functions of the Laplacian on the sphere and the hyperbolic space. In dimensions 1,2,3 one can perturb these Laplacians with a point potential, obtaining a well defined self-adjoint operator. Standard integrals of Macdonald and Gegenbauer functions appear in the formulas for the corresponding Green functions. In higher dimensions the Laplacian perturbed by point potentials does not exist. However, the corresponding Green function can be generalized to any dimension by using generalized integrals.

Positive positive-definite functions and measures on locally compact abelian groups

Abstract:The author was recently able to provide a cohomological interpretation of Tate's Riemann-Roch formula for number fields using some new harmonic analysis objects, ghost-spaces. When trying to investigate these objects in general, we realized the importance of functions and measures on locally compact abelian groups that are both positive and positive-definite at the same time. It looks like this class of functions and measures was not systematically studied before. The goal of this paper is to partially fill in this gap. We answer some of the natural questions involving these functions and measures, especially those that satisfy some extra integrability conditions. We also study some operations and constructions involving these functions and measures. There are several very interesting open questions, that we are only able to point out at this moment. In particular, the structure of the cone of such functions is not clear even when the group is just $\R.$

Abstract:We propose a relation between values of the Riemann zeta function $\zeta$ and a family of integrals. This results in an integral representation for $\zeta(2p)$, where $p$ is a positive integer, and an expression of $\zeta(2p+1)$ involving one of the above mentioned integrals together with a harmonic-number sum. Simplification of the latter eventually leads to an integral representation of $\zeta(2p + 1)$.

Abstract:We derive general sufficient conditions for the existence of Riemann-Stieltjes integrals $\int_a^b Yd X$. Our results extend the classical conditions of L.C.Young and improve some recent results that deal with integrals involving a fractional Brownian motion with the Hurst index $H>1/2$.

Abstract:The goal of this work is to present a new theoretical and simultaneously practical approach to the conception of improper integrals of type II and, consequently, to improper integrals of type I. Seven distinct definitions of improper integrals of type II are presented, each illustrated by suitable examples. Among them, particularly important are those defined on nets composed of sets symmetric with respect to points belonging to a given finite family of points. Connections between improper integrals of type II defined here are described in two main theorems. It should be emphasized that all definitions of improper integrals presented here are special cases of a very general definition of improper integrals on non-compact sets, which is presented at the end of this work. This definition is inspired by a concept introduced by Maurin.

Abstract:We study approximations of Riemann–Liouville type integrals on the interval . The approximation method involves an operator constructed by replacing the density of the integral with partial sums of Fourier–Chebyshev series. Integral representations and estimates of these approximations are established for the cases in which the density belongs to some classes of continuous functions. The estimates substantially depend on the position of the point on the interval.

Abstract:We introduce a class of integral theorems based on cyclic functions and Riemann sums approximating integrals. The Fourier integral theorem, derived as a combination of a transform and inverse transform, arises as a special case. The integral theorems provide natural estimators of density functions via Monte Carlo methods. Assessment of the quality of the density estimators can be used to obtain optimal cyclic functions, alternatives to the sin function, which minimize square integrals. Our proof techniques rely on a variational approach in ordinary differential equations and the Cauchy residue theorem in complex analysis.

Abstract:The integral kernel $K(x,y) := \frac{1}{2} + \lfloor \frac{1}{xy} \rfloor - \frac{1}{xy}$ ($0<x,y\leq 1$) has connections with the Riemann zeta-function and a (recently observed) connection with the Mertens function. In this paper we begin a general study of the eigenfunctions of $K$. Our proofs utilise some classical real analysis (including Lebesgue's theory of integration) and elements of the established theory of square integrable symmetric integral kernels.

Abstract:We give the definition, main properties and integral expressions of the auxiliary function of Riemann $\mathop{\mathcal R }(s)$. For example we prove $$\pi^{-s/2}\Gamma(s/2)\mathop{\mathcal R }(s)=-\frac{e^{-\pi i s/4}}{ s}\int_{-1}^{-1+i\infty} \tau^{s/2}\vartheta_3'(\tau)\,d\tau.$$ Many of these results are known, but they serve as a reference. We give the values of $\mathop{\mathcal R }(s)$ at integers except at odd natural numbers. We have $$\zeta(\tfrac12+it)=e^{-i\vartheta(t)}Z(t),\quad \mathop{\mathcal R }(\tfrac12+it)=\tfrac12e^{-i\vartheta(t)}(Z(t)+iY(t)),$$ with $\vartheta(t)$, $Z(t)$ and $Y(t)$ real functions.

Abstract: According to Sakellaridis, many zeta integrals in the theory of automorphic forms can be produced or explained by appropriate choices of a Schwartz space of test functions on a spherical homogeneous space, which are in turn dictated by the geometry of affine spherical embeddings. We pursue this perspective by developing a local counterpart and try to explicate the functional equations. These constructions are also related to the $L^2$-spectral decomposition of spherical homogeneous spaces in view of the Gelfand-Kostyuchenko method. To justify this viewpoint, we prove the convergence of $p$-adic local zeta integrals under certain premises, work out the case of prehomogeneous vector spaces and re-derive a large portion of Godement-Jacquet theory. Furthermore, we explain the doubling method and show that it fits into the paradigm of $L$-monoids developed by L. Lafforgue, B. C. Ngo et al., by reviewing the constructions of Braverman and Kazhdan (2002). In the global setting, we give certain speculations about global zeta integrals, Poisson formulas and their relation to period integrals.
Security of Quantum Key Distribution with Entangled Photons Against Individual Attacks

Abstract:Security of the Ekert protocol is proven against individual attacks where an eavesdropper is allowed to share any density matrix with the two communicating parties. The density matrix spans all of the photon number states of both receivers, as well as a probe state of arbitrary dimensionality belonging to the eavesdropper. Using this general eavesdropping strategy, we show that the Shannon information on the final key, after error correction and privacy amplification, can be made exponentially small. This is done by finding a bound on the eavesdropper's average collision probability. We find that the average collision probability for the Ekert protocol is the same as that of the BB84 protocol for single photons, indicating that there is no analog in the Ekert protocol to photon splitting attacks. We then compare the communication rate of both protocols as a function of distance, and show that the Ekert protocol has potential for much longer communication distances, up to 170km, in the presence of realistic detector dark counts and channel loss. Finally, we propose a slightly more complicated scheme based on entanglement swapping that can lead to even longer distances of communication. The limiting factor in this new scheme is the fiber loss, which imposes very slow communication rates at longer distances.

Abstract:Recently, we established and used the generalized Littlewood theorem concerning contour integrals of the logarithm of analytical function to obtain new criteria equivalent to the Riemann hypothesis. The same theorem was subsequently applied to calculate certain infinite sums and study the properties of zeroes of a few analytical functions. In this article, we discuss what are, in a sense, inverse applications of this theorem. We first prove a Lemma that if two meromorphic on the whole complex plane functions f(z) and g(z) have the same zeroes and poles, taking into account their orders, and have appropriate asymptotic for large |z|, then for some integer n, dnln(f(z))dzn=dnln(g(z))dzn. The use of this Lemma enables proofs of many identities between elliptic functions, their transformation and n-tuple product rules. In particular, we show how exactly for any complex number a, ℘(z)-a, where ℘(z) is the Weierstrass ℘ function, can be presented as a product and ratio of three elliptic θ1 functions of certain arguments. We also establish n-tuple rules for some elliptic theta functions.

Abstract:We define integrals for functions on finite-dimensional algebras, adapting methods from Leinster's research. This paper discusses the relationships between the integrals of functions defined on subsets $\mathbb{I}_1 \subseteq {\mathit{\Lambda}}_1$ and $\mathbb{I}_2 \subseteq {\mathit{\Lambda}}_2$ of two finite-dimensional algebras, under the influence of a mapping $\omega$, which can be an injection or a bijection. We explore four specific cases: $\bullet$ $\omega$ as a monotone non-decreasing and right-continuous function; $\bullet$ $\omega$ as an injective, absolutely continuous function; $\bullet$ $\omega$ as a bijection; $\bullet$ and $\omega$ as the identity on $\mathbb{R}$. These scenarios correspond to the frameworks of Lebesgue-Stieltjes integration, Riemann-Stieltjes integration, substitution rules for Lebesgue integrals, and traditional Lebesgue or Riemann integration, respectively.

Abstract:The Hermite-Hadamard inequalities for κ-Riemann-Liouville fractional integrals (R-LFI) are presented in this study using a relatively novel approach based on Abel-Gontscharoff Green’s function. In this new technique, we first established some integral identities. Such identities are used to obtain new results for monotonic functions whose second derivative is convex (concave) in absolute value. Some previously published inequalities are obtained as special cases of our main results. Various applications of our main consequences are also explored to special means and trapezoid-type formulae.

Abstract:We explore the applications of Lorentzian polynomials to the fields of algebraic geometry, analytic geometry and convex geometry. In particular, we establish a series of intersection theoretic inequalities, which we call rKT property, with respect to $m$-positive classes and Schur classes. We also study its convexity variants -- the geometric inequalities for $m$-convex functions on the sphere and convex bodies. Along the exploration, we prove that any finite subset on the closure of the cone generated by $m$-positive classes can be endowed with a polymatroid structure by a canonical numerical-dimension type function, extending our previous result for nef classes; and we prove Alexandrov-Fenchel inequalities for valuations of Schur type. We also establish various analogs of sumset estimates (Plünnecke-Ruzsa inequalities) from additive combinatorics in our contexts.
