Abstract:In this article, we have considered the problem of effective determination of modular forms of half-integral weight in the weight aspect. The result is a generalization of a result of Munshi to the case of modular forms of half-integral weight.

Abstract:We define a notion of modular forms of half-integral weight on the quaternionic exceptional groups. We prove that they have a well-behaved notion of Fourier coefficients, which are complex numbers defined up to multiplication by . We analyze the minimal modular form on the double cover of , following Loke–Savin and Ginzburg. Using , we define a modular form of weight on (the double cover of) . We prove that the Fourier coefficients of this modular form on see the -torsion in the narrow class groups of totally real cubic fields.

Abstract:The present notes are the expanded and polished version of three lectures given in Stanford, concerning the analytic and arithmetic properties of weight one modular forms. The author tried to write them in a style accessible to non-analytically oriented number theoritists: in particular, some effort is made to be precise on statements involving uniformity in the parameters. On the other hand, another purpose was to provide an introduction, together with a set of references, consciously kept small, to the realm of Galois representations, for non-algebraists -- like the author. The proofs are sketched, at best, but we tried to motivate the results, and to relate them to interesting conjectures.

Abstract:We show that modular forms of fractional weights on principal congruence subgroups of odd levels, which are found by T. Ibukiyama, naturally appear as characters being multiplied $\eta^{c_{\text{eff}}}$ of the so-called minimal models of type $(2, p)$, where $c_{\text{eff}}$ is the effective central charge of a minimal model. Using this fact and modular invariance property of the space of characters, we give a different proof of the result showned by Ibukiyama that is the explicit formula representing $\mathrm{SL}_{2}(\mathbb{Z})$ on the space of the ibukiyama modular forms. We also find several pairs of spaces of the Ibukiyama modular forms on $\Gamma(m)$ and $\Gamma(n)$ with $m|n$ having the property that the former are included in the latter. Finally, we construct vector-valued modular forms of weight $k\in\frac{1}{5}\mathbb{Z}_{>0}$ starting from the Ibukiyama modular forms of weight $k\in\frac{1}{5}\mathbb{Z}_{>0}$ with some multiplier system by a symmetric tensor product of this representation and show that the components functions coincides with the solution space of some monic modular linear differential equation of weight $k$ and the order $1+5k$.

Abstract:Given a half-integral weight holomorphic Kohnen newform $f$ on $\Gamma_0(4)$, we prove an asymptotic formula for large primes $p$ with power saving error term for \begin{equation*} \sideset{}{^*} \sum_{\chi \hspace{-0.15cm} \pmod{p}} | L(1/2,f,\chi) |^2. \end{equation*} Our result is unconditional, it does not rely on the Ramanujan--Petersson conjecture for the form $f$. This gives a very sharp Lindelöf on average result for Dirichlet series attached to Hecke eigenforms without an Euler product. The Lindelöf hypothesis for such series was originally conjectured by Hoffstein. There are two main inputs. The first is a careful spectral analysis of a highly unbalanced shifted convolution problem involving the Fourier coefficients of half-integral weight forms. The second input is a bound for sums of products of Salié sums in the Polya--Vinogradov range. Half--integrality is fully exploited to establish such an estimate. We use the closed form evaluation of the Salié sum to relate our problem to the sequence $\alpha n^2 \pmod{1}$. Our treatment of this sequence is inspired by work of Rudnick--Sarnak and the second author on the local spacings of $\alpha n^2$ modulo one.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove a converse theorem for half-integral weight modular forms assuming functional equations for $L$-series with additive twists. This result is an extension of Booker, Farmer, and Lee's result in [BFL22] to the half-integral weight setting. Similar to their work, the main result of this paper is obtained as a consequence of the half-integral weight Petersson trace formula.

Abstract:In this paper we prove a theorem about the coefficients in a block of a half integral weight modular form. We show that the result of Serre and Stark for weight 1/2 forms does not generalize to higher higher weights. Let f be a half integral weight cusp form of weight at leat 3/2. We consider blocks of coefficients of f and prove that, under some weak assumptions on f, if such a coefficient block is periodic when considered as a function of in the square root of its index, then it must vanish completely. The proof is analytic in nature and uses Shimura's lifting theorem together with estimates on the order of growth of Fourier coefficients of modular forms.

Abstract:We establish an isomorphism between certain complex-valued and vector-valued modular form spaces of half-integral weight, generalizing the well-known isomorphism between modular forms for <span class="InlineEquation">$\Gamma _0(4)$</span> with Kohnen's plus condition and modular forms for the Weil representation associated to the lattice with Gram matrix (2). With such an isomorphism, we prove the Zagier duality and express the Borcherds lifts in the case of <span class="InlineEquation">$\text {O}(2,1)$</span> explicitly.

Abstract:In this article, we are interested in modular forms with non-vanishing central critical values and linear independence of Fourier coefficients of modular forms. The main ingredient is a generalization of a theorem due to VanderKam to modular symbols of higher weights. We prove that for sufficiently large primes p , Hecke operators act linearly independently on the winding elements inside the space of weight 2 k cuspidal modular symbol with for . This gives a bound on the number of newforms with non-vanishing arithmetic L -functions at their central critical points and linear independence on the reductions of these modular forms for prime modulo .

Abstract:We give an explicit formula for dimensions of spaces of rational-weight modular forms whose multiplier systems are induced by eta-quotients of fractional exponents. As the first application, we give series expressions of Fourier coefficients of the $n$-th root of certain infinite $q$-products. As the second application, we extend Yves Martin's list of multiplicative holomorphic eta-quotients of integral weights by first extending the meaning of multiplicativity, then identifying one-dimensional spaces, and finally applying Wohlfahrt's extension of Hecke operators. A table containing $2277$ of such eta-quotients is presented. As a related result, we completely classify the multiplier systems induced by eta-quotients of integral exponents. For instance, there are totally $384$ such multiplier systems on $\Gamma_0(4)$ for any fixed weight. We also provide SageMath programs on checking the theorems and generating the tables.

Abstract:In the first paper of this sequence, we provided an explicit hypergeometric modularity method by combining different techniques from the classical, $p$-adic, and finite field settings. In this article, we explore an application of this method from a motivic viewpoint through some known hypergeometric well-poised formulae of Whipple and McCarthy. We first use the method to derive a class of special weight three modular forms, labeled as $\mathbb{K}_2$-functions. Then using well-poised hypergeometric formulae we further construct a class of degree four Galois representations of the absolute Galois groups of the corresponding cyclotomic fields. These representations are then shown to be extendable to $G_{\mathbb{Q}}$ and the $L$-function of each extension coincides with the $L$-function of an automorphic form.

The Shimura lift and congruences for modular forms with the eta multiplier

Abstract:The Shimura correspondence is a fundamental tool in the study of half-integral weight modular forms. In this paper, we prove a Shimura-type correspondence for spaces of half-integral weight cusp forms which transform with a power of the Dedekind eta multiplier twisted by a Dirichlet character. We prove that the lift of a cusp form of weight $\lambda+1/2$ and level $N$ has weight $2\lambda$ and level $6N$, and is new at the primes $2$ and $3$ with specified Atkin-Lehner eigenvalues. This precise information leads to arithmetic applications. For a wide family of spaces of half-integral weight modular forms we prove the existence of infinitely many primes $\ell$ which give rise to quadratic congruences modulo arbitrary powers of $\ell$.

Abstract:We show that every elliptic modular form of integral weight greater than $1$ can be expressed as linear combinations of products of at most two cusp expansions of Eisenstein series. This removes the obstruction of nonvanishing central $\mathrm{L}$-values present in all previous work. For weights greater than $2$, we refine our result further, showing that linear combinations of products of exactly two cusp expansions of Eisenstein series suffice.

Abstract:We generalize the modular invariance approach to include the half-integral weight modular forms. Accordingly the modular group should be extended to its metaplectic covering group for consistency. We introduce the well-defined half-integral weight modular forms for congruence subgroup Γ(4N) and show that they can be decomposed into the irreducible multiplets of finite metaplectic group Γ˜4N. We construct concrete expressions of the half-integral/integral modular forms for Γ(4) up to weight 6 and arrange them into the irreducible multiplets of Γ˜4. We present three typical models with Γ˜4 modular symmetry for neutrino masses and mixing, and the phenomenological predictions of each model are analyzed numerically.

Abstract:We present a deterministic algorithm for computing spaces of weight 1 modular forms with exotic representations. This algorithm is an improved version of Schaeffer's Hecke stability method, utilising the author's previous work on the twist-minimal trace formula for weight 2 holomorphic forms, and presenting a method of lifting forms from characteristic p. The algorithm was used to compute all such forms with level at most 10,000. Together with Sutherland's computation of dihedral forms, this allows us to present the dimensions of all weight 1 newform spaces up to level 10,000.

Abstract:We generalize a result of Ribet and Takahashi on the parametrization of elliptic curves by Shimura curves to the Hilbert modular setting. In particular, we study the behaviour of the parametrization of modular abelian varieties by Shimura curves associated to quaternion algebras $D$ over a totally real field $F$, as we vary $D$. As a consequence, we obtain that on these Shimura curves, the cohomological congruence module is equal to the ring theoretic congruence module even in cases where we do not have multiplicity one, thereby extending results of Manning and Böckle-Khare-Manning.
