Abstract:For $x>0$, let $\pi (x)$ denote the number of primes not exceeding x. For integers a and $m>0$, we determine when there is an integer $n>1$ with $\pi (n)=(n+a)/m$. In particular, we show that, for any integers $m>2$ and $a\leqslant \lceil e^{m-1}/(m-1)\rceil $, there is an integer $n>1$ with $\pi (n)=(n+a)/m$. Consequently, for any integer $m>4$, there is a positive integer n with $\pi (mn)=m+n$. We also pose several conjectures for further research; for example, we conjecture that, for each $m=1,2,3,\ldots $, there is a positive integer n such that $m+n$ divides $p_m+p_n$, where $p_k$ denotes the k-th prime.

Abstract:In this paper, we shall study the stellar work of Norwegian mathematician Selberg and Hungarian mathematician Erdős in providing an Elementary proof of the well-known \textit{Prime Number Theorem}. In addition to introducing ourselves to the notion of \textit{Arithmetic Functions}, we shall primarily focus our research on obtaining suitable estimates for the \textit{Chebyshev Theta Function} $\vartheta(x)$. Furthermore, we'll try to infer about the asymptotic properties of another function $\rho(x)$, which shall be needed later on in establishing an equivalent statement of our main result. All the mathematical terminologies pertinent to the proof have been discussed in the earlier sections of the text.

Abstract:Let $f(n)=\min_{p} |n-p|$, where $p$ is a prime. We show that there is a positive constant $\delta$ such that for any large integer $N$ there exist two positive integers $n_1$ and $n_2$ such that $N=n_1 + n_2$ and $f(n_i)\gg \ln N (\ln\ln N)^{\delta}$, $i=1, 2$.

Abstract:We formalise the proof of the first case of Fermat's Last Theorem for regular primes using the \emph{Lean} theorem prover and its mathematical library \emph{mathlib}. This is an important 19th century result that motivated the development of modern algebraic number theory. Besides explaining the mathematics behind this result, we analyze in this paper the difficulties we faced in the formalisation process and how we solved them. For example, we had to deal with a diamond about characteristic zero fields and problems arising from multiple nested coercions related to number fields. We also explain how we integrated our work to \emph{mathlib}.

Abstract:Bertrand's Postulate ensures existence of prime $p$ between $n$ and $2n$, $n$ an integer $\geq 2$ and the sieve of Eratosthenes, a very simple ancient algorithm, generates all prime numbers up to any given limit. Combining the above two, in this paper, we provide a simple fast moving algorithm to generate prime numbers up to any given limit. We also discuss Riemann zeta function related to generating of prime numbers.

Abstract:In 1876, Edouard Lucas showed that if an integer $b$ exists such that $b^{n-1} \equiv 1 (\mathrm{mod} \ n)$ and $b^{(n-1)/p} \not\equiv 1( \mathrm{mod} \ n)$ for all prime divisors $p$ of $n-1$ , then $n$ is prime, a result known as Lucas's converse of Fermat's little theorem. This result was considerably improved by Henry Pocklington in 1914 when he showed that it's not necessary to know all the prime factors of $n-1$ in order to determine if $n$ is prime. In this paper we optimize Pocklington's primality test for integers of the form $ap^{k}+1$ where $p$ is prime, $a<p$, $k\ge 1$. An extension of Lucas's converse of Fermat's little theorem is given. We also prove a new general-purpose primality test that requires that only a single odd prime divisor of $n-1$ be found for the test to be implemented. Contrary to the well-known result: There are infinitely many Fermat pseudoprimes to any base $b$; In this paper we prove the finitude of Fermat pseudoprimes in some forms of integers.

Abstract:The objective of this paper is to introduce an approach to the study of the nonasymptotic distribution of prime numbers. The natural numbers are represented by theorem 1 in the matrix form ^2N. The first column of the infinite matrix ^2N starts with the unit and contains all composite numbers in ascending <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://order.The" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> infinite rows of this matrix except for the first elements contain prime numbers only, which are determined by an uniform recurrence law. At least one of the elements of the twin pairs of prime numbers is an element of the second column of the matrix ^2N (theorem 3). The basic information on the nonasymptotic prime number distribution is contained in the distribution of the elements of the second column of the matrix ^2N.

Abstract:We prove a version of the prime number theorem for arithmetic progressions that is uniform enough to deduce the Siegel–Walfisz theorem, Hoheisel's asymptotic for intervals of length , a Brun–Titchmarsh bound, and Linnik's bound on the least prime in an arithmetic progression as corollaries. Our proof uses the Vinogradov–Korobov zero-free region, a log-free zero density estimate, and the Deuring–Heilbronn zero repulsion phenomenon. Improvements exist when the modulus is sufficiently powerful.

Abstract:While the prime numbers have been subject to mathematical inquiry since the ancient Greeks, the accumulated effort of understanding these numbers has - as Marcus du Sautoy recently phrased it - 'not revealed the origins of what makes the primes tick.' Here, we suggest that a resolution to this long-standing conundrum is attainable by defining the primes prior to the natural numbers - as opposed to the standard number theoretical definition of primes where these numbers derive from the natural numbers. The result is a first-principles perspective on the primes that exposes and explains the 'origins' of their distribution and their mathematical properties and provides an intuitive as well as pedagogical approach to the primes with the potential to impact our thinking about these age-old mathematical objects. A few immediate outcomes of this perspective are another proof of the fundamental theorem of arithmetic, a probabilistic model of primes sharing as well as explaining their subrandom correlation structure, and an equivalent formulation of the Riemann hypothesis.

Abstract:We present a detailed proof of the prime number theorem suitable for a typical undergraduate- or graduate-level complex analysis course. Our presentation is particularly useful for any instructor who seeks to use the prime number theorem for a series of capstone lectures, a scaffold for a series of guided exercises, or as a framework for an inquiry-based course. We require almost no knowledge of number theory, for our aim is to make a complete proof of the prime number theorem widely accessible to complex analysis instructors. In particular, we highlight the potential pitfalls and subtleties that may catch the instructor unawares when using more terse sources.

Abstract:We compute the density of primes represented by a special quadratic form in a fixed square residue class. Using this result and a new method introduced by Thaine we prove the fact that for a prime p > 3 congruent to 3 modulo 4, the component e ( p +1)/2 of the p -Sylow subgroup of the ideal class group of ℚ( ζ p ) is trivial.

In addition, the paper proposes stronger versions of Sylvester's theorem and Bertrand's postulate with more primes, as well as an approach to get more results in this direction.

Abstract:One of the themes of this paper is recent results on large gaps between primes. The first of these results has been achieved in the paper [12] by Ford, Green, Konyagin and Tao. It was later improved in the joint paper [13] of these four authors with Maynard. One of the main ingredients of these results are old methods due to Erdős and Rankin. Other ingredients are important breakthrough results due to Goldston, Pintz and Yildirim [15, 16, 17], and their extension by Maynard on small gaps between primes. All these previous results are discussed shortly. The results on the appearance of $k$-th powers of primes contained in those large gaps, obtained by the author in joint work with Maier [23, 24, 25] are based on a combination of the results just described with the matrix method of Maier.
