Abstract:Solar-driven photothermal conversion vacuum membrane distillation (SVMD) may become an energy-efficient technology to alleviate the shortage of fresh water. For the preparation of the photothermal composite membranes, membrane photothermal activity and distillation performance are crucial. A novel photothermal composite membrane has been designed with a photothermal active-layer and a microporous hydrophobic separation layer. Firstly, the copper foam (CF) as skeleton support was modified by in-situ surface oxidation on the copper surface, building a light trapping with flower-like copper oxide. Then, by the NIPS method, PVDF microporous hydrophobic layer was scraped on one side of the CuO/CF photothermal active-layer, thanks to the anchoring effect of the PVDF microporous separation layer on the porous surface of CF, and the photothermal composite membrane CuO/CF-PVDF was prepared. The light trap space consisted of CuO micron flowers and Cu(OH) 2 nanowires. The gaps between the petals increased the light refractive rate and absorption area, thus enhancing the photothermal performance of the CuO/CF. Under 1KW‧m -2 solar irradiation, the absorption rate reached up to 95% and the photothermal conversion efficiency achieved 94%. In the SVMD process, compared to current research, the CuO/CF-PVDF achieved unprecedented permeate flux (3.34 kg‧m -2 ‧h -1 ) and energy efficiency (88%) under normal temperature feed conditions.
