Abstract:In this paper we present the details of Women in Computer Vision Workshop - WiCV 2020, organized in alongside virtual CVPR 2020. This event aims at encouraging the women researchers in the field of computer vision. It provides a voice to a minority (female) group in computer vision community and focuses on increasingly the visibility of these researchers, both in academia and industry. WiCV believes that such an event can play an important role in lowering the gender imbalance in the field of computer vision. WiCV is organized each year where it provides a.) opportunity for collaboration with between researchers b.) mentorship to female junior researchers c.) financial support to presenters to overcome monetary burden and d.) large and diverse choice of role models, who can serve as examples to younger researchers at the beginning of their careers. In this paper, we present a report on the workshop program, trends over the past years, a summary of statistics regarding presenters, attendees, and sponsorship for the current workshop.

Abstract:In this paper, we present the details of Women in Computer Vision Workshop - WiCV 2024, organized alongside the CVPR 2024 in Seattle, Washington, United States. WiCV aims to amplify the voices of underrepresented women in the computer vision community, fostering increased visibility in both academia and industry. We believe that such events play a vital role in addressing gender imbalances within the field. The annual WiCV@CVPR workshop offers a)~opportunity for collaboration between researchers from minority groups, b) mentorship for female junior researchers, c) financial support to presenters to alleviate financial burdens and d)~a diverse array of role models who can inspire younger researchers at the outset of their careers. In this paper, we present a comprehensive report on the workshop program, historical trends from the past WiCV@CVPR events, and a summary of statistics related to presenters, attendees, and sponsorship for the WiCV 2024 workshop.

Abstract:The concept of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) emerged in the last decade, with various applications proposed.It was envisioned that the ubiquitous sensing and communication devices would soon be integrated into our daily life, to provide information and convenience wherever and whenever we need.However, to date, we have yet to see mass adoption of such applications, mainly due to the lack of viable wireless sensing devices, as well as the fragmentation of the data storage, computing, and networking infrastructure.Recent advances in the field of artificial intelligence, big data, and cloud computing, as well as concurrent attempts in standardization in low-power wireless networking and security, are paving the way for the commercialization of WSN applications.With the commercial ecosystem getting in place and infrastructures becoming mature, the challenge lies in the research and development in low-cost, miniaturized, and self-sustaining circuits and systems, to realize sensing and wireless communication functionalities which are critical in the future WSN landscape.In this special issue, the latest research efforts on circuits and systems for wireless sensing are presented.10 research papers are published in this issue, covering a wide variety of topics including MAC and routing protocols for wireless sensor networks, integrated circuits, and devices for wireless sensors, as well as complete wireless sensor systems for real world applications.The highlights of these papers are summarized as follows."A 5 V-to-3.3V CMOS Linear Regulator with Three-Output Temperature-Independent Reference Voltages" by

Abstract:Since its successful inauguration in Beijing, August, 2012, the IEEE international Conference on Communications (ICCC) has been globally recognized as one of the important annual international conferences held by the IEEE Communication Society (ComSoc) and China Institute of Communications (CIC). IEEE/CIC ICCC'14, the third ICCC held in Shanghai, China, 13–15 October, 2014, continued to expand its influence and had attracted distinguished scholars, key researchers, young investigators and ambitious students from dozens of countries and regions. The technical program of ICCC 2014 features 4 world-class plenary keynote speeches, 8 technical symposia, 5 tutorials, 4 industrial and academic panels and 1 workshop, covering from decades-long hot topics such as MIMO, interference coordination, heterogeneous networks and etc., to recent eye-catchers such as big data and social networks. The conference not only provided a forum and seminar for active researchers from every directions of this academia, but also attracted delegates from the main players in the industry.

Abstract:In this paper we present the Women in Computer Vision Workshop - WiCV 2019, organized in conjunction with CVPR 2019. This event is meant for increasing the visibility and inclusion of women researchers in the computer vision field. Computer vision and machine learning have made incredible progress over the past years, but the number of female researchers is still low both in academia and in industry. WiCV is organized especially for the following reason: to raise visibility of female researchers, to increase collaborations between them, and to provide mentorship to female junior researchers in the field. In this paper, we present a report of trends over the past years, along with a summary of statistics regarding presenters, attendees, and sponsorship for the current workshop.

Abstract:What is the impression of the word she when it comes to your mind? Smart or sensitive? Humble or helpful? Excellent or emotional? How can we build a more gender-inclusive society in the field of science and technology by benefitting from the contributions of women? To address these topics, a special session of Women in Microwaves (WiM) and Wireless was held on the afternoon of 14 August 2022 in Harbin, China, along with the 2022 IEEE Microwave Theory and Technology Societys IWS2022, one conference among the 2022 China Microwave Week. The special session was organized by the MTT-S WiM subcommittee. More than 30 people attended this event in person or virtually, including graduate students and male and female scientists in the area of microwave technology (Figure 1).

Abstract:The International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC) is the flagship conference of the IEEE Solid-State Circuits Society. The theme for ISSCC 2020 is "Integrated Circuits Powering the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Era." Advances in solid-state circuits and systems have brought ever more powerful communication and computational capabilities into mobile form factors. Such ubiquitous smart devices lie at the heart of a revolution shaping how we connect, collaborate, build relationships, and share information. Due to COVID-19 and travel restrictions, APCCAS 2022 was organised as a hybrid conference during 11 - 13 November 2022 in Shenzhen China. As the regional flagship conference of IEEE Circuits and Systems Society, APCCAS 2022 was driven by the theme “Building a Fully-connected AIoT World” to emphasize the CAS Society’s potential for finding multidisciplinary solutions to societal and industrial challenges. Abstract:Component-based Functional Integrated Circuit System (FICS) refers to the design and implementation of FICS using the Integrated Circuit system components. This paper discusses two parts: the Component-based Services Framework (CSF), or rather, the FICS framework for component-based application services, and Functional Integrated Circuit System Architecture Description Language (FICSADL), or rather, the application layer language for FICS service framework. The paper defines the FICSADL language elements, descriptive methods and formal specification by means of mapping the components of the service layer onto the connectors of the semantic layer. Various FICS business and system requirements are met by adjusting the connector glue parts on the semantic layer. Finally, the paper demonstrates the FICSADL π-calculus. This component-based FICS design and implementation is a design and implementation straight and directly from the algorithm to chip.

Abstract:There is a strong trend in modern industrial systems to integrate computation, communication, and control theories into networked control systems (NCSs). This is anticipated to be the next wave in the information technology revolution. From a control perspective, the interdisciplinary relationship between computation, communication and control is illustrated through control loop timing analysis of NCSs. Critical issues in the emerging field of integrated computation, communication and control (ICCC) are discussed. Since it is difficult to analytically quantify the impacts of computation and communication constraints on the quality of control (QoC), a simulation-based approach is proposed. A numerical example of networked DC motor control is utilized in simulations, with different scheduling schemes and communication protocols employed. Results and analysis give valuable suggests for improving the control performance of NCSs which feature the integration of control with computation and communication.

Women's Participation in Computing: Evolving Research Methods

Abstract:A 2022 keynote for the ACM History Committee on "Why SIG History Matters: New Data on Gender Bias in ACM's Founding SIGs 1970-2000" presented new data describing women's participation as research-article authors in 13 early ACM Special Interest Groups, finding significant growth in women's participation across 1970-2000 and, additionally, remarkable differences in women's participation between the SIGs. That presentation built on several earlier publications that developed a research method for assessing the number of women computer scientists that [a] are chronologically prior to the availability of the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) data on women in the IT workforce; and [b] permit focused investigation of varied sub-fields within computing. This present report expands on these earlier articles, and their evolving research method, connecting them to the ACM SIG Heritage presentation. It also outlines some of the choices and considerations made in developing and refining "mixed methods" research (using both quantitative and qualitative approaches) as well as extensions of the research being currently explored.

Abstract:The International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC) is the flagship conference of the IEEE Solid-State Circuits Society. The theme for ISSCC 2022 is Intelligent Silicon for a Sustainable World. This theme further highlights the fact that to cope with strong environmental changes, the circuit design community is evolving more than ever to support a more sustainable world. Given their widespread use in our everyday lives, without change, ICs will become the dominant energy consumer and source of carbon emissions in the (near) future. Despite phenomenal advances in solid-state circuits and systems, low-power circuit design is becoming increasingly more sophisticated in all application areas, from digital computation and machine learning to analog design. In the context of data communications, advances in wireless and wireline circuits will help optimize local and global communications energy. Various sensors can be deployed to measure environmental data and optimize energy consumption. Power management techniques continue to be an essential aspect of a majority of circuits and systems to extend their lifetime and battery longevity. Furthermore, new technologies are providing opportunities to develop innovative circuits, reduce fabrication impacts, and improve recyclability.

Abstract:This paper surveys and assesses the technology feasibility and readiness for the application of WLAN in the context of iSCS environment. Major concerns that impact the success of WLAN based iSCS are addressed by surveying solutions from the current spectrum of wireless technology offerings and assessment of their capability to meet iSCS requirements. The paper discusses the WLAN based iSCS configuration. The design of the wireless IEDs is presented with a new bridge configuration proposed. Some practical issues in WLAN based iSCS are highlighted.

Abstract:Those working on policy, digital ethics and governance often refer to issues in `computer science', that includes, but is not limited to, common subfields of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Computer Science (CS) Computer Security (InfoSec), Computer Vision (CV), Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Information Systems, (IS), Machine Learning (ML), Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Systems Architecture. Within this framework, this paper is a preliminary exploration of two hypotheses, namely 1) Each community has differing inclusion of minoritised groups (using women as our test case); and 2) Even where women exist in a community, they are not published representatively. Using data from 20,000 research records, totalling 503,318 names, preliminary data supported our hypothesis. We argue that ACM has an ethical duty of care to its community to increase these ratios, and to hold individual computing communities to account in order to do so, by providing incentives and a regular reporting system, in order to uphold its own Code.
