Abstract:A field experiment was conducted at the research farm of ICAR-Indian Institute of Rice Research (IIRR), Hyderabad, Rajendranagar in kharif, 2022 to study the effect of varying levels and source of slow-release urea fertilizers on yield, post harvest soil nutrient status and economics of wet direct seeded rice. The experiment was laid out in a randomized block design with ten treatments consisting of nitrogen management practices and replicated thrice. The results revealed that 100% RDN (Recommended Dose of Nitrogen) (120 kg/ha) applied through silicon coated urea resulted in the highest grain yield (6249 kg/ha) and straw yield (7114 kg/ha). Post harvest soil nutrient status revealed that 125% recommended dose nitrogen (150 kg/ha) applied through silicon coated urea resulted in the highest soil available nitrogen. Similarly, the highest soil available nitrogen gain was recorded in the plots that received 125% silicon coated urea. Silicon coated urea applied @ 120 kg/ha ulimately fetched higher gross return of ₹. 1,42,964/ha, net returns ₹. 1,03,793 and benefit-cost ratio of 2.65. It can be concluded that RDN applied through silicon coated urea @ 120 kg/ha found to be a suitable alternative to neem coated urea in increasing the grain yield, soil fertility and profitability.

Abstract:A field experiment was conducted at Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru College of Agriculture and Research Institute, Karaikal to study the effect of nitrogen levels and liquid nano urea application on the growth and yield of rice (Oryza sativa L.) during samba 2021 (September 2021 to January 2022) under puddled transplanted condition, involving fourteen treatments in a randomized block design (RBD) replicated thrice. The experiment involved a combination of four levels of nitrogen (0, 50, 75 and 100 % recommended dose of N) with three methods of liquid nano urea application (seed treatment, root dipping and foliar spraying) along with recommended dose of fertilizers and control. The results revealed that the application of 75 % recommended N + seed treatment with liquid nano urea resulted in the highest values for plant height, leaf area index, leaf area duration, dry matter production and number of tillers hill-1 followed by application of 100 % recommended N + seed treatment with liquid nano urea. Application of 75 % recommended N + seed treatment with liquid nano urea increased the grain yield by 14.8 and 84.3 % and straw yield by 6.5 and 76.4 % over recommended NPK and control, respectively.

Abstract:A field experiment was conducted to assess the effect of seedling dipping and foliar application of phosphorus on growth, yield and economics of fine rice. The experimental results revealed that 75% recommended nitrogen, phosphorus and 100% recommended potassium + seedling dipping with nano di-ammonium phosphate @ 5 ml/litre + foliar spray with nano di-ammonium phosphate @ 4 ml/litre application recorded significantly higher growth, yield and yield attributes, which was statistically at par with, 50% recommended nitrogen, phosphorus +100% recommended potassium + seedling treatment with nano di-ammonium phosphate @ 5 ml/litre+ 2 foliar spray with nano di-ammonium phosphate each @ 4 ml/litre and @ 2 ml/litre and 100% recommended nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. However, 50% recommended nitrogen, phosphorus +100% recommended potassium + seedling treatment with nano di-ammonium phosphate @ 5 ml/litre+ 2 foliar spray with nano nano di-ammonium phosphate each @ 4 ml/litre recorded significantly highest agro physiological efficiency. Abstract:When growing rice, nitrogen (N) is the most vital component since it determines how much grain the crop will produce. Among the many causes of rice's low productivity, improper nitrogen supply and inefficient nitrogen use are thought to be an important issue. In order to ensure sustainable N-management as well as to lower N-losses, it was decided to investigate how various rice cultivars react to both organic and inorganic nitrogen sources, as well as how weed infestation behavior changes with these sources in boro rice fields. Five distinct fertilizer combinations, including the control, were tested in an entirely block design that was randomized and had three replications. Each of the following sources of N: urea (prilled) at 100% of the RD (N100PU), poultry manure at 100% of the RD (N100PM), urea at 50% of the RD + poultry manure at 50% of the RD (N50PU+50PM), and urea super granule at 100% of the RD (2.7 g per 4 hills) (NUSG) were administered on BRRI dhan29, BRRI dhan88, BRRI dhan92 and BRRI dhan96, respectively. It is observed that N50PU+50PM was beneficial for weed among the nitrogen sources. But comparatively less weed invasion was noticed in the NUSG treated plots next to control specially in BRRI dhan29. With the use of NUSG, all of the varieties tested in this experimentation generated greater grain yield than they did with the use of the other nitrogen sources. When treated with NUSG, BRRI dhan29 showed a rise in grain yield around 64.34% and a greater nitrogen utilization efficiency compared to control. When benefit cost ratio (BCR) is considered, both the BCR and net income were the highest for the BRRI dhan29 variety while NUSG was employed. Finally, it can be inferred that, in comparison to other sources, the combination of BRRI dhan29 with application of NUSG appeared as the promising combination in order to increase grain production while improving nitrogen use efficiency, greatest BCR and to lessen the infestation of weeds throughout the boro season.

Abstract:Cropping systems and management practices can greatly affect rice crop, finally determining their grain yield and quality. In this study, we evaluated the effects of integrated nutrient management practices on sucrose phosphate synthase enzyme (SPS) activity and grain quality traits of rice. Field experiments were conducted at North Bank Plain Agro-climatic Zone of Assam, India from 2013 to 2015 on three rice ecosystems (winter, summer, and pre-monsoon). Selected fertilizer treatments were NPK as recommended inorganic fertilizer, NPK + cow dung, NPK + whole parts of the green manure Sesbania aculeata, NPK + compost of Azolla caroliniana and NPK + rice husk dust. NPK + Azolla compost application resulted in higher SPS activity compared to control. A significant relationship between panicle biomass and SPS enzyme activity was observed in the rice plants grown in different ecosystems. Integrated nutrient fertilizers in rice soil had a significant impact on the grain quality of rice. Grain nitrogen and crude protein content were higher at NPK + green manure Sesbania aculeata applied field irrespective of the ecosystems. NPK and Azolla compost were effective in improving grain productivity and grain quality parameters viz; total carbohydrates, starch, and amylose in rice crop.

Abstract:Rice production under salinity stress is a critical challenge facing many countries, particularly those in arid and semi-arid regions. This challenge could be handled by applying novel approaches to overcome yield limiting factors and improve resource use efficiency. The usage of nanoparticles (NPs) could be a beneficial approach to managing the growing problem of soil salinity. The aim of our study was to investigate the advantageous effects of soaking and foliar application of silicon (Si) and selenium (Se), (NPs-Si at 12.5 mg L−1 and NPs-Se at 6.25 mg L−1) on root characteristics, moropho-physiological traits, and yields of two rice varieties (i.e., Giza 177 as a salt sensitive and Giza 178 as a salt tolerant) grown in saline soil compared to untreated plants (control treatment). Results showed that soaking NPs-Se resulted in the highest value of root thickness for Giza 178 (0.90 mm, 0.95 mm) and root volume (153.30 cm3, 154.30 cm3), while Giza 177 recorded 0.83 mm, 0.81 mm for root thickness and 143.30 cm3, 141.30 cm3 for root volume in the 2018 and 2019 seasons, respectively. Soaking NPs-Se, NPs-Si and foliar application of NPs-Se at BT resulted in the highest relative water content and dry matter, while foliar application of NPs-Si at BT gave the highest leaf area index of rice plants compared to the other treatments. Giza 178 (i.e., salt tolerant variety) significantly surpassed Giza 177 (i.e., salt sensitive variety) in the main yield components such as panicle number and filled grains/ panicle, while Giza 177 significantly exceeded Giza 178 in the panicle weight, 1000-grain weight, and unfilled grains number/ panicle. Soaking NPs-Se and foliar application of NPs-Si at BT resulted in the highest grain yield of 5.41 and 5.34 t ha−1 during 2018 and 5.00 and 4.91 t ha−1 during 2019, respectively. The salt sensitive variety (Giza 177) had the highest Na+ leaf content and Na+/K+ ratio as well as the lowest K+ leaf content during both seasons. Applying nano nutrients such as NPs-Si and NPs-Se improved the yield components of the salt sensitive variety (Giza 177) by enhancing its ion selectivity. Both NPs-Si and NPs-Se had almost the same mode of action to mitigate the harmful salinity and enhance plant growth, and subsequently improved the grain yield. In summary, the application of NPs-Si and NPs-Se is recommended as a result of their positive influence on rice growth and yield as well as minimizing the negative effects of salt stress.

Abstract:A field experiment was conducted during two consecutive seasons of kharif 2020 and 2021 at Agronomy Research Farm, Acharya Narendra Deva University of Agriculture and Technology, Kumarganj Ayodhya (U.P.) to evaluate the effect of nitrogen level on growth, yield attributes and yield of different hybrid varieties of rice (Oryza sativa L.). The experiment was conducted in factorial randomized block design which comprised of 4 levels of nitrogen viz., 0 % RDN, 50 % RDN, 75 % RDN and 100 % RDN and 4 varieties viz., Arize-6444 Gold, Ankur-7576, 27P31 and Shahi-Dawat. Experiment was replicated three times. Results revealed significantly higher growth parameters, yield attributes and yield at 100% of RDN (150 kg N ha-1) which is at par with 75 % RDN (112 kg N ha-1) and significantly superior over 0 % RDN and 50 % RDN (75kg N ha-1) were increased at all stages except days taken to 50% flowering. The growth parameters, yield attributes and yield were increased significantly with Ankur-7576 variety except for length of the panicle (cm) and test weight (g). Ankur-7576 gave a good response in low level of nitrogenous fertilizer and showed good efficiency in utilization of available and applied nitrogen to the crop and is best suitable for obtaining higher yield of hybrid rice.

Abstract:Background: Nitrogen (N) is an essential macronutrient for plant growth and development as it is an essential constituent of biomolecules. Its availability directly impacts crop yield. Increased N application in crop fields has caused environmental and health problems, and decreasing nitrogen inputs are in demand to maintain crop production sustainability. Understanding the molecular mechanism of N utilization could play a crucial role in improving the nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) of crop plants. Methods and results: In the present study, the effect of low N supply on plant growth, physio-biochemical, chlorophyll fluorescence attributes, yield components, and gene expression analysis were measured at six developmental stages in rice cultivars. Two rice cultivars were grown with a supply of optimium (120 kg ha-1) and low N (60 kg ha-1). Cultivar Vikramarya excelled Aditya at low N supply, and exhibits enhanced plant growth, physiological efficiency, agronomic efficiency, and improved NUE due to higher N uptake and utilization at low N treatment. Moreover, plant biomass, leaf area, and photosynthetic rate were significantly higher in cv. Vikramarya than cv. Aditya at different growth stages, under low N treatment. In addition, enzymatic activities in cultivar Vikramarya were higher than cultivar Aditya under low nitrogen, indicating its greater potential for N metabolism. Gene expression analysis was carried out for the most important nitrogen assimilatory enzymes, such as nitrate reductase (NR), nitrite reductase (NiR), glutamine synthetase (GS), and glutamate synthase (GOGAT). Expression levels of these genes at different growth stages were significantly higher in cv. Vikramarya compared to cv. Aditya at low N supply. Our findings suggest that improving NUE needs specific revision in N metabolism and physiological assimilation. Conclusion: Overall differences in plant growth, physiological efficiency, biochemical activities, and expression levels of N metabolism genes in N-efficient and N-inefficient rice cultivars need a specific adaptation to N metabolism. Regulatory genes may separately or in conjunction, enhance the NUE. These results provide a platform for selecting crop cultivars for nitrogen utilization efficiency at low N treatment.
Integrated Nitrogen Management on Weed Growth and Yield Performance of Transplant Aman Rice

Abstract:Rice requires nitrogen in larger quantities than any other nutrient, and it is the most critical limiting factor that influences grain yield. But inappropriate sources and management of nitrogen is considered to be the most critical one among the various reasons of low rice productivity. In order to address the problem, an experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Field Laboratory, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh, during June to October 2020 to determine the effect of integrated nitrogen management (INM) on weed growth and yield of transplant aman rice. The experiment comprised five aman rice varieties, viz. Binadhan-7 (V1), BRRI dhan56 (V2), BRRI dhan66 (V3), BRRI dhan71 (V4) and BRRI dhan75 (V5) and four nitrogen management approaches: control (no nitrogen) (N0), 100% of recommended dose (RD) of nitrogenous fertilizer as prilled urea (150 kg ha-1) (N1), 2.5 t ha-1 poultry manure + 75% of RD of nitrogenous fertilizer as prilled urea (112.5 kg ha-1) (N2) and application of USG (1.8 g per 4 hills) (N3). Results reveal that maximum weed density and dry weight were found in BRRI dhan56 whereas minimum ones were observed in BRRI dhan66. In case of INM, application of 100% of RD of nitrogenous fertilizer as prilled urea showed maximum weed density and dry weight but minimum ones were found with application of USG. In combine, weed density and dry weight were found highest in BRRI dhan56 with 100% of RD of urea and the lowest weed density was found in BRRI dhan66 with no nitrogen treatment at 20 DAT and in BRRI dhan66 with application of USG at 35 DAT and lowest weed dry weight was obtained from Binadhan-7 with application of USG (1.8 g per 4 hills) at 20 and 35 DAT. Variety Binadhan-7 showed superior performance in terms of yield and yield attributes. Application of USG showed the highest number of grains panicle-1 and grain yield. Interaction of Binadhan-7 with application of USG produced highest number of grains panicle-1 (116.60), highest grain yield (5.21 t ha-1), biological yield (10.94 t ha-1), harvest index (47.65%) and highest BCR (1.57). So, results indicated that Binadhan-7 with application of USG (1.8 g per 4 hills) might be recommended for obtaining highest grain yield with higher nitrogen use efficiency, highest BCR as well as to control weed more effectively in aman season.

Abstract:Background: Rice being staple food has qualities beyond its nutritive value with high digestibility and least allergic properties compared to other cereal grains. Research on exploring the nutritional value of traditional rice varieties with its inherent medicinal values and productivity has poor documentation and hence should be encouraged and supported. Field experiment was conducted with the objective to study the productivity of medicinal rice varieties as influenced by nutrient sources (inorganic and organic) and soil conditions (reduced and oxidized) under direct seeded rice. Methods: A field experiment was conducted in the wetland during Rabi season (October-February) at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore with an objective to study the effect of crop establishment of medicinal rice varieties as influenced with nutrient sources and soil conditions under direct seeded rice. The experiment was laid out in factorial randomized block design with three replications. The treatments consisted of soil conditions (reduced, oxidized) as one factor, sources of nutrients (inorganic, organic) as the second factor and four medicinal rice varieties (Black Kavuni, Red Kavuni, Local Kavuni and Njavara) as the third factor. Result: The reduced condition and inorganic source of nutrient recorded higher plant height, maximum tiller population dry matter production, leaf area index, panicle length, higher number of spikelet panicle-1, 1000-grain weight and filled grains. Among the medicinal rice varieties, Red Kavuni recorded higher growth parameters and yield attributes. From the above results, it could be concluded that Red Kavuni medicinal rice under a reduced condition with inorganic nutrients resulted in higher growth parameters and yield attributes.

Abstract:A pot experiment was conducted on Satla soil series in Terokhada Upazilla, Khulna during the boro season (February to June) to see whether Azolla (biofertilizer) could be grown together with BRRI dhan 28 and to compare the effect of the recommended dose of N (100 kg N ha-1) with that of different combinations of urea and Azolla (all treatments having the recommended doses of P, K, S and Zn). The experiment was laid out in a completely randomized design with 5 treatments and 4 replications. Azolla pinnata applied 0.2 kg m-2 grew well with BRRI dhan 28. The highest amount of grain yield of 2.35 t ha-1 was produced by the application of 75 Kg N ha-1 with Azolla. One layer of Azolla with 50 kg ha-1 urea-N produced almost same amounts of grain. Thus the rate of 0.2Kg m-2 Azolla inoculums as N source along with 50-75% Urea-N ha-1 appeared to be a good practice in reducing the use of costly urea (chemical N source) fertilizer by about 25-50%.

Abstract:A field experiment was conducted to assess the effect of different nutrient treatments on nutrient content, uptake and residual soil fertility in rice crop at Crop Research Centre, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology, Meerut during kharif 2022 on clay loam soil, low in organic carbon, available nitrogen, phosphorous, zinc and iron, medium to high in available potassium and slightly alkaline in reaction. The treatments comprising of different combinations (10) of NPK, Zn and Fe with VAM {Control,100% NPK, 100% NPK + 25kg ZnSO4 ,100% NPK+ 25 kg FeSO4, 100% NPK + 25kg ZnSO4+25 kg FeSO4, 100% NPK + 12.5 kg ZnSO4+ 12.5 kg FeSO4+VAM, 100% NPK+ZnEDTA+FeEDTA, 100% NPK + 0.5% ZnSO4 at tillering and panicle initiation, 100% NPK + 0.5% FeSO4 at tillering and panicle initiation and 100% NPK + 0.5% ZnSO4 +0.5% FeSO4 at tillering and panicle initiation}were tested in RBD with 3 replications. Rice variety PB-1637 was transplanted on 23rd July and harvested on 10th November, 2022 with recommended package of practices except the treatments. Nutrient content, uptake and residual soil fertility were significantly affected by different nutrients treatments. Zn, Fe, Zn+Fe and Zn+Fe+VAM application favored nutrient content, uptake and residual soil fertility when compared to 100% NPK. Among the various treatments crop was applied with 100% NPK + 0.5% ZnSO4 + 0.5% FeSO4 registered highest nutrient content in grain (N- 1.33% ,P-0.43%, K-0.39%, Zn-36.5 mg kg-1 and Fe-127.31 mg kg-1), nutrient uptake in grain (N-57.5 kg ha-1,P- 18.6 kg ha-1 K-16.8 kg ha-1 ,Zn- 157.7 g ha-1 and Fe-550.0 g ha-1) and residual soil nutrient status (N-221.1 kg ha-1, P-17.6 kg ha-1, K-214.7 kg ha-1, Organic Carbon-0.47%, Zn-0.98 mg kg-1 and Fe-6.56 mg kg-1).

Abstract:Nitrogen is indispensible ingredient of animal food and comes initially from plant. In fact, plant converts the nitrogen of soil in two forms suitable for nutrition of animals. After water, nitrogen is the second limiting factor for plant growth in many fields and deficiency of this element is met by fertilizers. The excessive use of chemical fertilizer has generated several environmental issues. These problems can be tackled by use of Bio-fertilizers. Bio-fertilizers are different from Chemical fertilizers. Bio -fertilizer on the application remains in soils, multiply and keep benefiting the growing crops. Blue green algae (BGA) or Cyanobacteria, the free-living photosynthetic N-fixing organism, are distributed worldwide and contribute to the soil fertility in many agricultural ecosystem. Cyanobacteria function as a Bio-fertilizer due to the property of nitrogen fixation (conversion of molecular nitrogen into nitrogen compound). The mass production of Cyanobacteria is much cheaper and easy than that of conventional chemical fertilizer and their inorganic requirement is very simple. To test the efficacy of nitrogenous fertilizer along with BGA on the yield attributes of rice, a field experiment was conducted with rice variety Pusa 1509 and Pusa sharbati. Two fields of 2.0 m into 3.0 m were prepared one without BGA as control and other with BGA. For this field experiment recommended dose of BGA is 10 kg/ ha after the transplantation of rice seedlings. Inoculates contains the mixture of Gloeocapsa, Plectonema, Oscillatoria, Anabaena, Nostoc, Cylindrospermum, Scytonema, Calothrix, Anabaenopsis, Aulosira, Eisherella etc. As compared with control tillers were seen after 80 days, food grains were thick, elongated and healthy and 10-30 percent grain yield found to be increased over control. The observation clearly indicates that the BGA can be the good option to increase the growth and crop production in Rice.

Abstract:To feed the burgeoning population, the cultivation of rice is exploited on low fertility soils, which are otherwise not fit for its cultivation. To enhance the fertility status of such soils, the nutrient-enriched bio-compost play vital role in maintaining the soil productivity and yield sustainability. Field experiments were conducted on sandy loam soil for two years (2016–2017 and 2017–2018) to evaluate the impact of different combinations of N (nitrogen)-, P (phosphorus)-, and K (potassium)-enriched bio-compost with inorganic nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers (NPK) on crop productivity, nutrient uptake, and soil fertility by rice under rice-wheat system. The results reported that growth parameters, yield attributing characters, grain and straw yield of rice improved significantly by different NPK-enriched bio-compost treatments. Rice grain yield increased significantly, that is, 4350 kg ha −1 with the application of 150% NPK over recommended fertilizer (3360 kg ha −1 ). Also, plant growth parameters and yield attributing characters improved with application of bio-compost applied @ 4 t ha −1 . The NPK content in grains and their buildup in soil were significantly higher in treatments where 25% NPK were substituted through NPK-enriched bio-compost and 75% NPK through inorganic fertilizers. Overall, it is concluded that integrated use of 25% nutrients through NPK-enriched bio-compost and 75% nutrients through NPK inorganic fertilizers is the best option for the maintenance of soil health and sustainable rice yield.

Abstract:Microbial diversity is an essential biological indicator of soil health as well as crop productivity and helps in maintaining the ecosystem dynamics. In land management, Nature based Solutions (NbS) are not mainstream management, however, for sustaining the balanced ecosystem, integrity in the structural and functional diversity of microbes via NbS is imperative. Direct seeded rice (DSR) cultivation is a promising technique for efficient rice production, but weed infestation can lead to yield loss, requiring extensive herbicide use like pendimethalin (PND) and pretilachlor (PRT). The results revealed that with a reduction in PND and PRT residues (0.93–0.01 μg g −1 soil), values of soil microbial biomass C (132.3–112.6 mg kg −1 soil) and MBN (12.6–8.5 mg kg −1 soil), and enzyme activities increased. Negative correlations were observed between herbicide residues and microbial parameters. In control soils, higher population sizes of archaea, bacteria, and fungi were obtained compared to herbicide-treated soils. High-throughput amplicon sequencing (16S rRNA, ITS genes) detected dominant archaea, atronorbrum_4312, MethanothrixX_B, and Methanosarcina_2619 in herbicide treated whereas Nitrosocosmicus, Methanoregula, in control. Bacillus, Methyloceanibacter, Azospira, and Nitrospira bacterial genera were present in both groups Control soil showed the dominance of Humicola, Nigrospora, and Paramyrothecium fungi , while treated one exhibited Mariannaea, Ceratobasidium, Funneliformis (PND), Aspergillus, Pseudorhypophila, and Lecythophora (PRT). Overall, herbicides had a detrimental impact on microbial dynamics, and their residues correlated negatively with soil variables and microbial diversity. The research outcomes revealed the dramatic variations in microbial communities under the influence of herbicides. This will further aid in a better understanding of the development of NbS solutions for effectively managing herbicide application in direct-seeded rice for enhancing soil health and ecosystem services while supporting sustained productivity.

Abstract:Background: Indian agriculture continues to be a gamble with monsoon, Direct seeded rice (DSR) can prove to be a promising method technically and economically, which is an achievable alternative to transplanted rice. On the other hand, the soil has become dilapidated of late due to ill-agricultural practices. Therefore, soil fertility and productivity restoration are in dire need, which can be done through integrated nutrient management. Methods: The investigation was conducted to assess the impact of integrated nutrient management on the growth and yield performance of direct seeded rice in dyrtrudepts of Nagaland at the experimental farm of the School of Agricultural Sciences (SAS), Medziphema Campus, Nagaland University, during kharif season of 2019 and 2020. A randomized Block Design with three replications and twelve treatments was applied for the trial. Result: Application of 100% RDF + 2 t FYM ha-1 + PSB (T5) significantly increased the growth parameters, yield attributes, and yield of direct seeded rice which was at parity with T4 (100% RDF + 2 t FYM ha-1) in both the years of cultivation. Therefore, the integrated use of nutrients favored the growth and yield characteristics of direct-seeded rice.
Effect of Nano-Urea Based Nitrogen Management and Herbicide Mixtures on Rhizospheric Dynamics of Wheat for Enhanced Productivity, Profitability and Yield Emission Trade-Offs

Abstract:As nitrogen and weed management in wheat gains prominence for uplifting its productivity, the exploration of alternative nitrogen and weed management options become a priority. In this regard, an experiment was conducted in split plot design with three replications. In main plot, four nitrogen management options were tested: N1 = control, N2 = 100% Recommended Dose of Nitrogen (RDN), N3 = 50% RDN + 2 spray of nano-urea (SNU) (40 & 60 days after sowing– DAS) and N4 = 75% RDN + 1 SNU (60 DAS). Concurrently, four weed management treatments were studied in subplots: W1 = Ready mix of sulfosulfuron + metsulfuron methyl @ 30 + 2 g a.i. ha − 1 at 30 DAS; W2 = tank mix of clodinafop propargyl @ 60 g a.i. ha − 1 + carfentrazone-ethyl @ 20 g a.i. ha − 1 at 30 DAS; W3 = weed free check and W4 = un-weeded check. The results revealed that 100% RDN outperformed 50% RDN + 2-SNU & 75% RDN + 1 SNU in terms of superior soil microbial activity and wheat root growth parameters, ultimately resulting in the maximum grain & straw yield, profitability along with best yield emission trade-offs. Comparing between the two herbicide mixtures, the tank mix of clodinafop + carfentrazone ethyl surpassed the ready mix of sulfosulfuron + metsulfuron methyl in terms of all the above mentioned parameters.
