Abstract:We revisit Fourier's approach to solve the heat equation on the circle in the context of (twisted) reduced group C*-algebras, convergence of Fourier series and semigroups associated to negative definite functions. We introduce some heat properties for countably infinite groups and investigate when they are satisfied. Kazhdan's property (T) is an obstruction to the weakest property, and our findings leave open the possibility that this might be the only one. On the other hand, many groups with the Haagerup property satisfy the strongest version. We show that this heat property implies that the associated heat problem has a unique solution regardless of the choice of the initial datum.

Abstract:In this paper we describe a proof of the formulas of Witten [W1], [W2] about the symplectic volumes and the intersection numbers of the moduli spaces of principal bundles on a compact Riemann surface. It is known that these formulas give all the information needed for the Verlinde formula. The main idea of the proof is to use the heat kernel on compact Lie groups, in a way very similar to the heat kernel proof of the Atiyah-Singer index formula and the Atiyah-Bott fixed point formula. The Reidemeister torsion comes into the picture, through a beautiful observation of Witten, as the symplectic volume of the moduli space. It plays the role similar to that played by the Ray-Singer torsion in the path-integral computations on the space of connections. The basic idea is as follows. Consider a smooth map between two compact smooth manifolds f : M → N . Let H(t, x, x0) be the heat kernel of the Laplace-Beltrami operator on N with x0 a fixed regular value of f . Abstract:Windowing a Fourier transform is a useful tool, which gives us the similarity between the signal and time frequency signal, and it allows to get sense when/where ceratin frequencies occur in the input signal, this method is introduced by Dennis Gabor. In this paper, we generalize the classical Gabor-Fourier transform(GFT) to the Riemannian symmetric space called the Helgason Gabor Fourier transform (HGFT). We continue with proving several important properties of HGFT, like the reconstruction formula, the Plancherel formula, and Parseval formula. Abstract:In this paper, we study the heat equation associated with the Jacobi–Cherednik operator on the real line. We establish some basic properties of the Jacobi–Cherednik heat kernel and heat semigroup. We also provide a solution to the Cauchy problem for the Jacobi–Cherednik heat operator and prove that the heat kernel is strictly positive. Then, we characterize the image of the space L2(R,Aα,β) under the Jacobi–Cherednik heat semigroup as a reproducing kernel Hilbert space. As an application, we solve the modified Poisson equation and present the Jacobi–Cherednik–Markov processes.

Abstract:We prove a certain inequality for a subsolution of the heat equation associated with a regular Dirichlet form. As a consequence of this inequality, we obtain various interesting comparison inequalities for heat semigroups and heat kernels, which can be used for obtaining pointwise estimates of heat kernels. As an example of application, we present a new method of deducing sub-Gaussian upper bounds of the heat kernel from on-diagonal bounds and tail estimates.

Abstract:This paper introduces heat semigroups of topological Markov chains and Cuntz-Krieger algebras by means of spectral noncommutative geometry. Using recent advances on the logarithmic Dirichlet Laplacian on Ahlfors regular metric-measure spaces, we construct spectral triples on Cuntz-Krieger algebras from singular integral operators. These spectral triples exhaust K-homology and for Cuntz algebras we can compute their heat operators explicitly as Riesz potential operators. We also describe their isometry group in terms of the automorphism group of the underlying directed graph and prove that the Voiculescu noncommutative topological entropy vanishes on isometries.

Abstract:We show how a number of well-known uncertainty principles for the Fourier transform, such as the Heisenberg uncertainty principle, the Donoho–Stark uncertainty principle, and Meshulam’s nonabelian uncertainty principle, have little to do with the structure of the Fourier transform itself. Rather, all of these results follow from very weak properties of the Fourier transform (shared by numerous linear operators), namely that it is bounded as an operator L1→L∞L^1 \rightarrow L^\infty, and that it is unitary. Using a single, simple proof template, and only these (or weaker) properties, we obtain some new proofs and many generalizations of these basic uncertainty principles, to new operators and to new settings, in a completely unified way. Together with our general overview, this paper can also serve as a survey of the many facets of the phenomena known as uncertainty principles.

Abstract:We prove in this paper a generalization of Heisenberg inequality for Gabor transform in the setup of the semidirect product , where K is a compact subgroup of automorphisms of . We also solve the sharpness problem and thus we obtain an optimal analogue of the Heisenberg inequality. A local uncertainty inequality for the Gabor transform is also provided, in the same context. This allows us to prove a couple of global uncertainty inequalities. The representation theory and Plancherel formula are fundamental tools in the proof of our results.

Abstract:We consider a metric measure space (M, d, mu) and a heat kernel p(t) (x, y) on M satisfying certain upper and lower estimates, which depend on two parameters alpha and beta. We show that under additional mild assumptions, these parameters are determined by the intrinsic properties of the space (M, d, mu). Namely, alpha is the Hausdorff dimension of this space, whereas beta, called the walk dimension, is determined via the properties of the family of Besov spaces W-sigma,W-2 on M. Moreover, the parameters alpha and beta are related by the inequalities 2 less than or equal to beta less than or equal to alpha + 1.We prove also the embedding theorems for the space W-beta/2,W-2, and use them to obtain the existence results for weak solutions to semilinear elliptic equations on M of the form-Lu + f(x, u) = g(x),where C is the generator of the semigroup associated with p(t).The framework in this paper is applicable for a large class of fractal domains, including the generalized Sierpiniski carpet in R-n.

Abstract:Quantum cycles in established heat engines can be modeled with various quantum systems as working substances. For example, a heat engine can be modeled with an infinite potential well as the working substance to determine the efficiency and work done. However, in this method, the relationship between the quantum observables and the physically measurable parameters i.e., the efficiency and work done is not well understood from the quantum mechanics approach. A detailed analysis is needed to link the thermodynamic variables (on which the efficiency and work done depends) with the uncertainty principle for better understanding. Here, we present the connection of the sum uncertainty relation of position and momentum operators with thermodynamic variables in the quantum heat engine model. We are able to determine the upper and lower bounds on the efficiency of the heat engine through the uncertainty relation.

Abstract:In this paper, we present first-order accurate numerical methods for solution of the heat equation with uncertain temperature-dependent thermal conductivity. Each algorithm yields a shared coefficient matrix for the ensemble set improving computational efficiency. Both mixed and Robin-type boundary conditions are treated. In contrast with alternative, related methodologies, stability and convergence are unconditional. In particular, we prove unconditional, energy stability and optimal-order error estimates. A battery of numerical tests are presented to illustrate both the theory and application of these algorithms.

Abstract:This paper studies Brownian motion and heat kernel measure on a class of infinite dimensional Lie groups. We prove a Cameron–Martin type quasi-invariance theorem for the heat kernel measure and give estimates on the Lp norms of the Radon–Nikodym derivatives.
