Abstract:This paper discusses experimentally the effect of adding Styrene-Butadiene Rubber (SBR) Sika-Latex on the fresh and hardened properties of concrete. The behavior of polymer-modified concrete and the development of strength were investigated. To doing so, five concrete mixes were made with a variable content of SBR Sika-Latex (0%, 2%, 4%, 6%, and 8%), and the effect of adding these percentages on compressive strength, tensile strength, and density of concrete at different ages (7, 28, 56 and 90 days) was studied. Non-destructive properties such as ultrasound pulse velocity and dynamic elastic modulus were also calculated. The results showed that adding SBR Sika-Latex had a negative role in the compressive strength and tensile strength, as its addition caused a decrease in both strengths. Where the percentage of decrease in the compressive and tensile strengths at 28 days was (7%, 19%, 27.5% and 36.8%) and (5.3%, 18.4%, 26.3% and 36.8 %) respectively when adding (2, 4, 6 and 8%) of SBR Sika-Latex. The polymer-modified concrete also experienced a decrease in its density. Furthermore, the ultrasonic pulse velocity waves decreased with increasing addition ratios. Moreover, the ultrasonic pulse velocity findings were used to predict compressive strength and dynamic modulus of elasticity, and appropriate relationships were obtained that showed a good correlation between these properties.
