Abstract:The rapid pace of urbanization results in city geographical expansion, greater distances and travel times, more motorization, and a constantly growing population. In response to this circumstance, new urban policies are seeking to govern the relationship between urban planning and urban mobility, as well as to define a new dimension of closeness that lowers the excessive use of energy-consuming and polluting means of transportation, particularly autos. The 15-minute city plan embodies this perspective, focusing on pedestrian accessibility from one's home to nearby facilities and urban places. In this light, the research provides a GIS-based approach for assessing pedestrian accessibility to mosques. To measure mosque spatial and functional accessibility, the technique used combines the analysis of walking distances and durations with the occupancy capacity of mosques and the population in their catchment areas. For more inclusive and equitable cities, the suggested method assists city planners in better understanding the urban configuration in terms of spatial and functional pedestrian accessibility.
