Abstract:A full-color display consisting of red and green photoluminescence cadmium-free quantum dots (QDs) as the color conversion material and excited by a 68×68 blue micro-LED flip chip array mounted on an active-matrix driving board was completed in this study. The QD photoresist (QDPR) lithography technology was reported in detail, and it has been proven to be a stable process route. The suitable thickness of 12±1µm of the QDPR and black matrix was proposed to reduce the light cross talk between different sub-pixels. The thickness of the common color filter of 1-2 µm was made successfully between the quantum dot film and the cover glass, which can greatly reduce the leakage of blue backlight and decrease the quantum dots excitation by the ambient light, as well as improve the color gamut and color purity of the display panel. In addition, the high red and green light conversion efficiency reaches up to 78.1% and 296.5%, respectively, and the screen display can reach 98.8% NTSC on the CIE 1931 chromaticity. Representative RGB monochromatic pictures were displayed successfully and ≤0.04 viewing angle deviation of the display was measured precisely.

Abstract:In this study, quantum dot color conversion layers (QDCCLs) for full-color micro-LED display were successfully fabricated using microfluidics to conduct red and green perovskite quantum dots to the position of the pixel array. The QDCCL with full-color pixel size of 200 × 200 <i>μ</i>m and sub-pixel size of 140 × 50 <i>μ</i>m was achieved. Perovskite quantum dots with high quantum yield and narrow full width at half-maximum were used to achieve a wide color gamut, which was 131% of National Television Systems Committee standard. The proposed microfluidics-based QDCCL featured easy fabrication, low cost, high performance, and good integration prospects.

Abstract:Colloidal quantum dots which can emit red, green, and blue colors are incorporated with a micro-LED array to demonstrate a feasible choice for future display technology. The pitch of the micro-LED array is 40 μm, which is sufficient for high-resolution screen applications. The method that was used to spray the quantum dots in such tight space is called Aerosol Jet technology which uses atomizer and gas flow control to obtain uniform and controlled narrow spots. The ultra-violet LEDs are used in the array to excite the red, green and blue quantum dots on the top surface. To increase the utilization of the UV photons, a layer of distributed Bragg reflector was laid down on the device to reflect most of the leaked UV photons back to the quantum dot layers. With this mechanism, the enhanced luminous flux is 194% (blue), 173% (green) and 183% (red) more than that of the samples without the reflector. The luminous efficacy of radiation (LER) was measured under various currents and a value of 165 lm/Watt was recorded.

Abstract:This paper presents an easy and intact process based on microfluidics static droplet array (SDA) technology to fabricate quantum dot (QD) arrays for full-color micro-LED displays. A minimal sub-pixel size of 20 μm was achieved, and the fluorescence-converted red and green arrays provide good light uniformity of 98.58% and 98.72%, respectively.

Abstract:With the ever-growing demands for larger size and high resolution displays, Micro-light-emitting diode (Micro-LED) display with quantum dots (QDs) film as color conversion layers (CCLs) has become one of the most promising candidates of future display for its advantages in low power consumption and wide color range. In this study, we report a novel full-color display based on blue Micro LED, which has patterned red and green QDs color conversion (QDCC) layers fabricated by inkjet printing (IJP). A structure of double-layer bank was designed to reduce color deviation, prevent crosstalk, and flatten the QDCC layer. By optimizing the thickness of the red/green QDCC layers and the wavelength of blue Micro LED backlights, a full-color QDCC-LED display with 228 PPI resolution and size of 1.11-inch was successfully fabricated and showed superb performance. We not only effectively reduced crosstalk, but also improved the color conversion efficiency of QDs. In addition, this QDCC-LED display prepared by embedded bonding process shows a color gamut of 107.53% NTSC. Graphical

Abstract:Light-emitting diodes with quantum dot luminophores show promise in the development of next-generation displays, because quantum dot luminophores demonstrate high quantum yields, extremely narrow emission, spectral tunability and high stability, among other beneficial characteristics. However, the inability to achieve size-selective quantum dot patterning by conventional methods hinders the realization of full-colour quantum dot displays. Here, we report the first demonstration of a large-area, full-colour quantum dot display, including in flexible form, using optimized quantum dot films, and with control of the nano-interfaces and carrier behaviour. Printed quantum dot films exhibit excellent morphology, well-ordered quantum dot structure and clearly defined interfaces. These characteristics are achieved through the solvent-free transfer of quantum dot films and the compact structure of the quantum dot networks. Significant enhancements in charge transport/balance in the quantum dot layer improve electroluminescent performance. A method using plasmonic coupling is also suggested to further enhance luminous efficiency. The results suggest routes towards creating large-scale optoelectronic devices in displays, solid-state lighting and photovoltaics.

Abstract:This work demonstrated color-conversion layers of red and green quantum dots color filter for full-color display arrays. Ligands exchange using (3-glycidyloxypropyl) trimethoxysilane with epoxy functional groups to treat QDs in the liquid phase was performed for photolithography use. The combination of ligands of QDs with photo-initiator played a protective role on QDs. Moreover, the pixel size of green QDCF can be reduced to 50 μm, and a high optical density (OD) of 1.2 is realized.

Abstract:Abstract In this work, we present the investigation of the quantum dot color filter (QDCF) micro-light emitting diode (micro-LED) display. Green and red quantum dot photoresist (QDPR) materials are patterned into a pixelated array and precisely bonded with an all-blue micro-light emitting diode (micro-LED) substrate, forming a red, green, and blue (RGB) full color display through color conversion. A few factors that influence the achievable color gamut are further investigated. The resulting 1.1-inch 228-pixels per inch (ppi) display demo shows the good performance. The findings in this paper pave a way to the future industrialization of the micro-LED display.

Abstract:Group III–V semiconductor‐based microscale light‐emitting diode (micro‐LED) displays are recognized as one of the most promising display technologies with superhigh brightness and resolution, strong contrast, and superlarge color gamut but currently suffer from low efficiency, low production yield, and high cost. Here, it is proposed to realize cost‐effective and full‐color micro‐LED displays by using microscale perovskite quantum dot LEDs (micro‐PeLEDs) as emitters. Bright and uniform red‐, green‐, and blue‐emitting (RGB) micro‐PeLED arrays with each pixel size as small as 45 µm are fabricated by in situ inkjet printing a perovskite quantum dot (PeQD) emissive layer in the structure of indium tin oxide/poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene)‐poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS)/poly(9‐vinylcarbazole) (PVK)/sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS)/PeQD/1,3,5‐tris(1‐phenyl‐1H‐benzimidazol‐2‐yl)benzene (TPBi)/LiF/Al. These RGB micro‐PeLED arrays display an external quantum efficiency of 0.832%, 0.419%, and 0.052% for red, green, and blue colors, a resolution of 210 PPI, and a wide color gamut (135% of the National Television Standards Committee standard). The authors further demonstrate flexible and full‐color active‐matrix micro‐PeLED displays, which have potential applications in future ultrahigh‐definition displays, light communication, and artificial intelligence. Microscale perovskite quantum dot light‐emitting diodes (micro‐PeLEDs) are fabricated through an “interface engineering‐inkjet printing‐plasma etching” strategy using perovskite quantum dot arrays as the emissive layer for full‐color displays with the advantages of low cost, free massive transfer, high resolution, and suitability for large‐area or flexible displays. This provides a new approach for the development of micro‐LEDs.

Abstract:Quantum dots (QDs) display have attracted much attention due to their excellent optical properties and solution process. Especially, QDs can act as effective color conversion for light emitting diodes (LEDs). In this work, we fabricated 4‐inch QD‐microLED display panel by inkjet printing technology, being cooperated with active matrix inorganic microLEDs. Here blue Micro‐LED acted as backlight, patterned red and green QD layer acted as converted materials, which exhibited high quantum efficiency, high luminance, high color purity. We believe that inkjet‐printed QD display with blue microLEDs would be promising candidate for the next generation display in the near future.

Abstract:In this article, red and green perovskite quantum dots are incorporated into the pixels of a flexible color-conversion layer assembly using microfluidics. The flexible color-conversion layer is then integrated with a blue micro-LED to realize a full-color display with a pixel pitch of 200 μm. Perovskite quantum dots feature a high quantum yield, a tunable wavelength, and high stability. The flexible color-conversion layer using perovskite quantum dots shows good luminous and display performance under different bending conditions; is easy to manufacture, economical, and applicable; and has important potential applications in the development of flexible micro-displays.

Abstract:Micro-LEDs have promising development potential in display applications because of their outstanding performance. Achieving a full-color display based on micro-LEDs is one of the most important issues in commercial applications. In this paper, an effective method based on quantum dots and blue micro-LEDs was developed. Using an etching method, a thick black matrix was fabricated to reduce crosstalk and form a thick bank for quantum dots. Quantum dots were deposited in a thick black matrix using inkjet printing technology. With blue micro-LEDs, inkjet-printed quantum dot films can realize effective color conversion. The integrated blue micro-LEDs and red/green quantum dot films can achieve full-color displays without color filters, because the blue light leakage in the color conversion film can be reduced by the quantum dots themselves. The results suggest that inkjet-printed quantum dots are a promising way to achieve full-color micro-LED displays.

Abstract:We demonstrated a simple method for achieving green and red colors by patterning quantum dots (QDs) on GaN-based blue micro-light-emitting diodes (μLEDs) using standard photolithography and dry etching process. The QDs could be patterned as small as 2 μm in size on a 4-inch wafer, revealing the ultra-high resolution and throughput capability of this method. The individual color-converted green and red μLEDs in a size of 10 μm × 10 μm exhibited a peak external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 9.6% and 14.7%, respectively. We also achieved the monolithic integration of red, green, and blue (RGB) μLEDs as a single pixel by sequentially patterning red and green QDs. The color gamut of the RGB μLEDs covered 83.4% of the Rec. 2020 color space in the CIE 1931 diagram. This method is very effective for patterning color-converted QDs with down to 2μm-size-resolution and achieving high performance for red/green μLEDs, while enabling scalable fabrication of full-color μLED displays.

Abstract:What we believe to be a novel fabrication process for monolithic full-color (RGB) micro-LED (mu LED) display technology, featuring three-dimensional (3D) and quantum dot (QD)-based color conversion layer, has been proposed. This method offers advantages such as a wide color gamut, high pixel density, high yield, and low cost. A 16 x 16 passive matrix (PM) RGB mu LED array, with a pitch size of 80 mu m and a pixel density of 328 pixels per inch (PPI), has been successfully realized using flip-chip bonding technology. When measuring the electroluminescence (EL) spectra of the green and red pixels with the addition of color filters, the color gamut can achieve a maximum of 124% of the National Television System Committee (NTSC) standard. Additionally, this process significantly reduces the risk of damage to the QD film during photolithography compared to using two different colored QDs for RGB mu LED arrays. The proposed manufacturing process shows considerable promise for commercialization.

Abstract:The technical challenge of realizing full-color display by monochromatic integrated 100×100 blue Micro-LED array exciting InP quantum dot color conversion layer was investigated. Using photolithography technology to prepare color film on a separate glass cover glass has the advantages of better accuracy and display resolution. The optimum thickness of the quantum dot photoresist (QDPR) was verified at 12 μm and a 10 μm black matrix was proposed to reduce the light crosstalk between different sub-pixels. The thickness of color filter 1±0.4 μm was made successfully between the QDPR and the cover glass, which can significantly increase the display color gamut from 78.7% to 100.8% NTSC. The red and green conversion efficiency reached 78.1% and 296.5%, respectively. Representative RGB monochromatic pictures with 100% high yield were displayed successfully.

Abstract:The monolithic photolithograph integration of sub‐5 μm perovskite quantum‐dot (PeQD) pixels is achieved on 0.39‐inch blue‐backlight micro‐LED screens. This integration demonstrates full‐color image and video display capabilities, with remarkable features including brightness exceeding 400 000 nits, an ultra‐high resolution of 3300 PPI, and a wide color gamut of 130.4% NTSC. Monolithic integration of color‐conversion materials onto blue‐backlight micro‐light‐emitting‐diodes (micro‐LEDs) has emerged as a promising strategy for achieving full‐color microdisplay devices. However, this approach still encounters challenges such as the blue‐backlight leakage and the poor fabrication yield rate due to unsatisfied quantum dot (QD) material and fabrication process. Here, the monolithic integration of 0.39‐inch micro‐display screens displaying colorful pictures and videos are demonstrated, which are enabled by creating interfacial chemical bonds for wafer‐scale adhesion of sub‐5 μm QD‐pixels on blue‐backlight micro‐LED wafer. The ligand molecule with chlorosulfonyl and silane groups is selected as the synthesis ligand and surface treatment material, facilitating the preparation of high‐efficiency QD photoresist and the formation of robust chemical bonds for pixel integration. This is a leading record in micro‐display devices achieving the highest brightness larger than 400 thousand nits, the ultrahigh resolution of 3300 PPI, the wide color gamut of 130.4% NTSC, and the ultimate performance of service life exceeding 1000 h. These results extend the mature integrated circuit technique into the manufacture of micro‐display device, which also lead the road of industrialization process of full‐color micro‐LEDs.
