Abstract:International Journal of Modern Physics B, Ahead of Print. The process of convective thermal management in the radiative flow of Oldroyd-B fluid over the stretching cylinder is investigated in this paper. In engineering and applied sciences, the viewpoint of fluid flow due to vertically stretched cylinder covers both theoretical and practical significances. Nonlinear ordinary differential equations are first transformed from their corresponding partial differential equations, then rebuilt using sufficient transformations to produce a system of nondimensional equations, using a proper similarity technique, which is then calculated. The MATLAB built-in technique BVP4C, a standard numerical process, is used to solve the regulating flow equations. A comprehensive graphical depiction was used for characteristics like unsteadiness and curvature, Prandtl number, and thermal diffusivity. The relevant flow characteristics of the governing problem are depicted in graphs.

Abstract:Modern Physics Letters B, Ahead of Print. Nanofluids help in many fields to improve the performance of thermal systems by augmenting heat transfer rates through their thermophysical properties. The performance of the nanofluids with various base fluids may be different. Therefore, the study and comparison of behaviors of various nanofluids are useful in several applications such as fuel as a coolant in automobiles, and in medical and electronic equipment to reduce the thermal resistance. This research proposed a novel model to investigate the flow behavior of three different nanofluids over an elongating surface in the presence of a non-uniform heat source and thermal radiation effects. This investigation describes how the considered nanofluids behave in the presence of a transverse magnetic field, and other effects. The proposed governing boundary layer partial differential equations (PDEs) are reformed into a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations (ODEs) by introducing the proper similarity transformation. The finalized equations are solved numerically with the help of the ND solve package in Mathematica software. We intended how the fluid flow and heat transfer are affected by non-dimensional controlling factors with the help of graphics. Further, the calculations and discussions are accompanied by the numerical values of the skin friction coefficient and heat and mass transfer rates. According to the current findings, the Maxwell nanofluid exhibits superior performance in velocity, and the Oldroyd-B nanofluid shows more concentration and less temperature. As a special case, the results of this investigation are compared with the existing results, and found a good agreement between the results.

Abstract:<p>The Oldroyd-B model, Maxwell and Jeffrey models which are generalized non-Newtonian rheological models are used for the investigation of thermal enhancement in the presence of dust and hybrid nanoparticles. The governing models for fluid and solid phase are solved numerically via shooting method. The convergence and mesh free analysis has been carried out, Nusselt number and shear stress are analyzed for three fluid models (Oldroyd, Maxwell and Jeffrey). It is observed that memory effects in Oldroyd-B hybrid nanofluid are stronger than Maxwell and Jeffrey's hybrid nanofluid. The thickness of momentum boundary layer region can be reduced by increasing Deborah number that characterizes the relaxation time. Viscous dissipation phenomenon has appeared less significant in Jeffrey fluid comparatively. The transport rate of heat energy through Jeffrey hybrid nanofluid is higher than both the Maxwell and Oldroyd model.</p>

Abstract:An extensive analysis of nonlinearized thermal radiation & Lorentz force on an unsteady flow of Non-Newtonian fluid taking the Maxwell model over a permeable nonuniform stretchable sheet in a porous media has been presented. Appropriate analogous transformations are introduced to develop the ordinary differential equations from the fluid flow governing equations. Numerical method Lobatto IIIa is used to solve these ODEs and programmed in mathematical software MATLAB to obtain the graphical and numerical details. The effectiveness of non-linearity in thermal radiation, unsteadiness of the flow and magnetic field on Nusselt number, skin friction, heat & fluid motion are tabulated and represented in graphs with an elaborate discussion of the consequences. It is found that the Lorentz force and nonlinearity in thermal radiation have an adverse impression on the heat propagation throughout the flow. Further, a comparative inspection is also carried out proving the relevance of the current technique.

Abstract:The impact of Joule heating for the three-dimensional stagnation point flow of non-Newtonian liquid (namely Oldroyd-B) nanomaterial has been inspected. The influence of mixed convection and the magnetic force is also considered. The flow is induced by the bidirectional stretched surface which moves linearly. The partial differential equations for the developed model are altered into dimensionless statements first. The numerical simulations with the implementation of a finite difference scheme are used for the numerical description. The physical description of parameters is presented against the flow parameters. The results reveal that there is a reverse change in velocity observed for both the relaxation time constant and the retardation constant. Furthermore, the heat transfer rate decreases as the ratio parameter increases. The thickness of the boundary layer increases due to the retardation time and can also be regulated by the application of a magnetic field. An increase in the magnetic parameter leads to an enhancement in temperature and an increase in thermal boundary layer thickness.

Abstract:Present study reveals the flow of a classical non-Newtonian fluid based on the Williamson model through a vertical flat plate. The free convective flow is generated because of the effect of buoyancy relating to the temperature. In addition to that, the influence of thermal radiation and heat source/sink in conjunction with the dissipative heat enhances the efficiency of transport phenomenon within the bounding surface. Well-proposed similarity transformation is used to transform the governing equation into ordinary. However, due to the dissipation, the nonlinear coupled problems are complex. For the solution, a semi-analytical approach such as differential transformation method (DTM) in association with the Padé approximant method is used instead of traditional numerical technique. Pade-approximant is useful to get a non-iterative solution without imposing the missing boundary conditions. It is a simple and effective way to determine the solutions of complex nonlinear problems with assumed boundary conditions at infinity. The physical significance of all the contributing parameters distinguished the flow properties are achieved and accessible graphically. Moreover, the validation of the present methodology with the traditional numerical technique is obtained, showing an excellent correlation in particular cases.

Numerical Heat Transfer Part A Applications

Abstract:This article analyses the flow across a moving surface using the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) Williamson fluid model in detail, accounting for the effects of diffusion, nonlinear convection, and variable thermal conductivity. The heat transmission within the system is impacted by the changing thermal conductivity, which can also significantly alter the flow behavior. The effects of the moving surface on flow forms in porous media are explained here using the Darcy model. The similarity transformations are used to convert the underlying nonlinear partial differential equations into a collection of ordinary differential equations. The work uses a numerical RK4 technique to examine the complex incompressible fluid flow behavior on a moving surface. The study's conclusions provide insight into the intricate flow patterns and shear layer forms brought on by the interaction of fluid and surface motion while taking varied thermal conductivity into account. The findings give important information for the design and optimization of engineering applications involving changeable thermal characteristics and advance our understanding of fluid dynamics in geophysical and atmospheric systems. Physical descriptions are used to depict how flow parameters behave in relation to velocity, temperature, and concentration distributions.

Case Studies in Thermal Engineering

Abstract:Jeffrey fluids have found vast applications in industries and engineering along with their rheological properties. This article investigates the heat and fluid flow within the frame of the nonlinear thermal radiation and non-Fourier heat flux model on Jeffrey nanofluid over an inclined permeable stretched cylinder through saturated porous medium. In addition, non-uniform heat generation/absorption, nonlinear thermal radiation, thermal stratification, and homogeneous/heterogeneous reactions are accounted. Porous medium is characterized through nonlinear Darcy-Forchheimer relation. Shooting method is employed in conjunction with Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg method to solve nonlinear ODEs. The effects of flow variables involved in velocity, temperature and concentration profiles are deliberated through graphs. It is evident from obtained results that the temperature field rises with thermal radiation parameter and space dependent heat generation/absorption parameter. Local Nusselt number has same enhancing attitude towards the thermal relaxation time ( 0.7443≤−Nˆuz(Rez)−12≤0.7857 for 0.2≤δe≤0.6 ) and thermal stratification parameter ( 0.7239≤−Nˆuz(Rez)−12≤0.7689for0.2≤S1≤0.6) . The exactness of the solution and F′(ξ) variation is verified by comparison with already published literature. The computed results are of great interest in cooling of nuclear reactors. Viscoelastic stuff are generally employed in mats, car shields, computer hard drives and other protective paddings. Synthetic materials can work as the lubricant for an osteoarthritic joint.

Abstract:The analysis of chaotic convection of Oldroyd-B fluid in porous medium under temperature modulation is presented on the basis of Darcy-Brinkman model. A four-dimensional nonlinear system resulting from a truncated Galerkin expansion of the conservation and constitutive equations is set up to deal with the stability of convection with different Darcy number and Darcy-Rayleigh number. The chaotic behavior is controlled by Darcy-Rayleigh number while Darcy number has a great influence on the stability of system. With the lower boundary which is heated in a time-periodic manner, the system will change over to a state of periodic or chaotic motion from steady convection. (C) 2019 Elsevier Ltd. Abstract:In the Jeffrey and Williamson model of nanofluid flow and heat transfer past a moving surface with varying thickness, the effects of heat production, thermal radiation, Brownian motion, thermophoresis, and chemical reactions were considered. Controlling PDEs can be converted to nonlinear coupled ODEs by using proper similarity analysis. These ODEs are solved with the required boundary conditions via the BVP4c technique. Graphs have been used by researchers to show how restrictions on dimensions other than space impact fluid velocity, temperature, and concentration. The properties of both the Jeffrey and Williamson nanofluids are discussed and compared. The Nusselt number, Sherwood number, and skin friction coefficient are calculated numerically. Comparing the current study's outcomes to those that have already been published for a particular case allows us to determine that there is great agreement between the two sets of data.

Abstract:Modern Physics Letters B, Ahead of Print. The analysis of heat transfer of a hybrid nanofluid [math] in the MHD stagnation point motion toward an exponentially expanding/shrinking sheet with a nonuniform heat source/sink, multiple slip conditions and nonlinear thermal radiation effects are carried out in this study. By applying the similarity transformation, the governing equations are transformed into Ordinary Differential Equations (ODEs). The Runge–Kutta method using bvp4c in MATLAB software is implemented to explain the ODEs. The results show that the local Nusselt number is decreased while the skin friction coefficient remains unaltered by the accumulation of thermal slip, space, and temperature-dependent parameters.

Abstract:The current article investigates the effects of nonlinear mixed convection flow in an upright channel with asymmetric or symmetric heating and cooling conditions, considering the influence of temperature-dependent thermal conductivity. The momentum equation is approximated using the nonlinear Boussinesq approximation in the buoyancy force term. Computational solutions for the dimensionless partial differential equations are obtained through the use of an unconditionally stable and convergent implicit finite difference technique. A regular perturbation series approach is employed to ascertain steady-state solutions, facilitating the assessment of the correctness of the numerical approach. During the numerical computing process, it is observed that the nonlinearity in density variation with temperature, along with the mixed convection parameter and the symmetric or asymmetric heating and cooling of the plates, significantly influences flow generation. It is also noted that in the scenario of asymmetric heating, fluid motion is stronger at the bottom plate, whereas in the case of symmetric heating/cooling settings, the highest velocity is observed in the center of the channel.

Abstract:Nanoparticles mixed with base liquids result in the formation of nanofluids, known for their exceptional thermal conductivity and their ability to enhance the performance of electrical and mechanical devices. Therefore, this study investigates the peristaltic activity of fourth-grade nanomaterial by taking the consideration of magnetic aspects. Analysis is carried out in the presence of motile gyrotactic microorganisms, Ohmic heating, and viscous dissipation. Thermal transport incorporated effects of nonlinear thermal radiation along with Brownian motion and thermophoresis. Thermal and mass convective conditions are imposed on elastic symmetric channels. The assumptions of low Reynolds number and long wavelength approximations have led to the simplification of the nonlinear partial differential equations system into ordinary differential equations. The governing system is solved numerically by NDSolve technique via Mathematica. Graphs are plotted and examined for velocity, thermal field, density of motile gyrotactic microorganisms, and heat transfer rate.
