Abstract:Femoral head necrosis (FHN) would induce the musculoskeletal disability. It exits the challenge from the diagnostic and therapeutic issues. Open surgery for the treatment of FHN is not an optimized way. To minimize the surgery window, an injectable material with porous structure and bioactive nature is preferred. How to fabricate an injectable porous bone graft via a simple way was the aim of our study. Therefore a cemented multi-phased calcium phosphate porous granule has been studied with varied phase composition, pore size and porosity and degradation rate. Granules templated by PEG 100-600 μm have chosen for the cell toxicity and in vitro osteogenic potential testing. The rabbits with the femoral head necrosis model have been implanted with Granule A. Mature cancellous bone tissue can be observed in the femoral head defect after 2 months' implantation. The results indicate the newly formed injectable bioactive porous grafts could be a good candidate for the treatment of femoral head necrosis.
