Abstract:Let X be an infinite linearly ordered set and let Y be a nonempty subset of X. We calculate the relative rank of the semigroup of all orientation-preserving transformations on X with restricted range Y modulo the semigroup of all order-preserving transformations on X with restricted range Y. For Y = X, we characterize the relative generating sets of minimal size.

Abstract:In this paper, we determine the relative rank of the semigroup $T(X,Y)$ of all transformations on a finite chain $X$ with restricted range $Y \subseteq X$ modulo the set $OP(X,Y)$ of all orientation-preserving transformation in $T(X,Y)$. Moreover, we state the relative rank of the semigroup $OP(X,Y)$ modulo the set $O(X,Y)$ of all order-preserving transformations in $OP(X,Y)$. In both cases we characterize the minimal relative generating sets.

Abstract:Let $\Omega_n$ be a finite chain with $n$ elements $(n\in\mathbb{N})$, and let $\mathcal{POPI}_{n}$ be the semigroup of all injective orientation-preserving partial transformations of $\Omega_n$. In this paper, for any nonempty subset $Y$ of $\Omega_n$, we consider the subsemigroup $\mathcal{POPI}_{n}(Y)$ of $\mathcal{POPI}_{n}$ of all transformations with range contained in $Y$. We describe the Green's relations and study the regularity of $\mathcal{POPI}_{n}(Y)$. Moreover, we calculate the rank of $\mathcal{POPI}_{n}(Y)$ and determine when two semigroups of this type are isomorphic.

Abstract:In this paper we introduce the notion of an orientation-preserving transformation on an arbitrary chain, as a natural extension for infinite chains of the well known concept for finite chains introduced in 1998 by McAlister \cite{McAlister:1998} and, independently, in 1999 by Catarino and Higgins \cite{Catarino&Higgins:1999}. We consider the monoid $\mathscr{POP}(X)$ of all orientation-preserving partial transformations on a finite or infinite chain $X$ and its submonoids $\mathscr{OP}(X)$ and $\mathscr{POPJ}(X)$ of all orientation-preserving full transformations and of all orientation-preserving partial permutations on $X$, respectively. The monoid $\mathscr{PO}(X)$ of all order-preserving partial transformations on $X$ and its injective counterpart $\mathscr{POJ}(X)$ are also considered. We study the regularity and give descriptions of the Green's relations of the monoids $\mathscr{POP}(X)$, $\mathscr{PO}(X)$, $\mathscr{OP}(X)$, $\mathscr{POPJ}(X)$ and $\mathscr{POJ}(X)$.

Abstract:In this paper, we characterize the monoid of endomorphisms of the semigroup of all oriented full transformations of a finite chain, as well as the monoid of endomorphisms of the semigroup of all oriented partial transformations and the monoid of endomorphisms of the semigroup of all oriented partial permutations of a finite chain. Characterizations of the monoids of endomorphisms of the subsemigroups of all orientation-preserving transformations of the three semigroups aforementioned are also given. In addition, we compute the number of endomorphisms of each of these six semigroups.

Abstract:This paper is an exploration of the faithful transitive permutation representations of the orientation-preserving automorphisms groups of highly symmetric toroidal maps and hypermaps. The main theorems of this paper give a list of all possible degrees of these specific groups. This extends prior accomplishments of the authors, wherein their focus was confined to the study of the automorphisms groups of toroidal regular maps and hypermaps. In addition the authors bring out the recently developed {\sc GAP} package {\sc corefreesub} that can be used to find faithful transitive permutation representations of any group. With the aid of this powerful tool, the authors show how Schreier coset graphs of the automorphism groups of toroidal maps and hypermaps can be easily constructed.

Abstract:We study algebraic properties of the semigroup $\mathscr{O\!\!I\!}_n(L)$ of finite partial order isomorphisms of the rank $\leq n$ of an infinite linearly ordered set $(L,\leqslant)$. In particular we describe its idempotents, the natural partial order and Green's relations on $\mathscr{O\!\!I\!}_n(L)$. It is proved that the semigroup $\mathscr{O\!\!I\!}_n(L)$ is stable and it contains tight ideal series. Moreover, we show that the semigroup $\mathscr{O\!\!I\!}_n(L)$ admits only Rees' congruences and every its homomorphic image is a semigroup with tight ideal series.

Abstract:We define oriented posets with correpsonding rank matrices, where linking two posets by an edge corresponds to matrix multiplication. In particular, linking chains via this method gives us fence posets, and taking traces gives us circular fence posets. As an application, we give a combinatorial model for $q$-deformed Markov numbers. We also resolve a conjecture of Leclere and Morier-Genoud and give several identities between circular rank polynomials.

Abstract:We slightly generalize a notion of rank introduced by Glasner and Megrelishvili, which captures the oscillations of elements of Ellis semigroups, so that it can be applied to any compact Hausdorff space instead of being limited to the metric case. Then, we relate this rank to classical dividing lines in the model-theoretic stability hierarchy. For example, that the rank is ordinal-valued if and only if the background theory is NIP.

Abstract:The height of a poset $P$ is the supremum of the cardinalities of chains in $P$. The exact formula for the height of the subgroup lattice of the symmetric group $\mathcal{S}_n$ is known, as is an accurate asymptotic formula for the height of the subsemigroup lattice of the full transformation monoid $\mathcal{T}_n$. Motivated by the related question of determining the heights of the lattices of left- and right congruences of $\mathcal{T}_n$, we develop a general method for computing the heights of lattices of both one- and two-sided congruences for semigroups. We apply this theory to obtain exact height formulae for several monoids of transformations, matrices and partitions, including: the full transformation monoid $\mathcal{T}_n$, the partial transformation monoid $\mathcal{PT}_n$, the symmetric inverse monoid $\mathcal{I}_n$, the monoid of order-preserving transformations $\mathcal{O}_n$, the full matrix monoid $\mathcal{M}(n,q)$, the partition monoid $\mathcal{P}_n$, the Brauer monoid $\mathcal{B}_n$ and the Temperley-Lieb monoid $\mathcal{TL}_n$.

Abstract:We call a semigroup $\mathcal{R}$-noetherian if it satisfies the ascending chain condition on principal right ideals, or, equivalently, the ascending chain condition on $\mathcal{R}$-classes. We investigate the behaviour of the property of being $\mathcal{R}$-noetherian under the following standard semigroup-theoretic constructions: semidirect products, Schützenberger products, free products, Rees matrix semigroups, Brandt extensions, Bruck-Reilly extensions and semilattices of semigroups.

Abstract:The monoid of all partial injections on a finite set (the symmetric inverse semigroup) is of particular interest because of the well-known Wagner-Preston Theorem. In this article, we step forward the study of a submonoid of the symmetric inverse semigroup. We explore the monoid of all order-, fence-, and parity-preserving transformations on an $n$-element chain. We also characterize the transformations in that monoid and show that it has a rank $3n-6$. In particular, we provide a generating set $A_n$ of minimal size and exhibit concrete normal forms for the transformations generated by $A_n$.

Abstract:In this paper we consider three submonoids of the dihedral inverse monoid $\mathcal{DI}_n$, namely its submonoids $\mathcal{OPDI}_n$, $\mathcal{MDI}_n$ and $\mathcal{ODI}_n$ of all orientation-preserving, monotone and order-preserving transformations, respectively. For each of these three monoids, we compute the cardinal, give descriptions of Green's relations and determine the rank.

Abstract:Generalizing the continuous rank function of Barja-Pardini-Stoppino, in this paper we consider cohomological rank functions of Q-twisted (complexes of) coherent sheaves on abelian varieties. They satisfy a natural transformation formula with respect to the Fourier-Mukai-Poincare transform, which has several consequences. In many concrete geometric contexts these functions provide useful invariants.We illustrate this with two different applications, the first one to GV-subschemes and the second one to multiplication maps of global sections of ample line bundles on abelian varieties.
