Abstract:Granular Anchors Pile Foundation (GAPF) is a new concept in ground engineering for the improvement of load–displacement behavior, failure mechanisms, and ultimate pullout capacity including potential applications in weak subsoil strata. Granular piles improve problematic soils by improving their load-carrying capacity and reducing the total and differential settlements. Granular Anchor Piles as an improvement over granular piles is used in which at the bottom of the pile the foundation is anchored with a mild steel plate which is connected with the mild steel tie rod. The recent technique witnessed to achieve the proficiency in the application of GAPF that is used to withstand both forces, i.e., compressive as well as tensile forces. In the present study, various pullout tests have been performed in laboratory on Granular Anchor Piles installed in cohesive soils. The pullout capacities of GAPs in cohesive soil have been analyzed by varying lengths of pile, diameter of pile, L / D ratio, and angle of load inclination, viz., 15°, 30°, and 45°. The result shows that the pullout capacity decreases with the increase in L / D ratio from 7.5 to 12.5. Also, pullout load resistance increases when the diameter of the pile increases. Further, the pullout capacity for GAPF decreases with increase in load inclination with the vertical axis.
