Abstract:Manganese-based cathodes have been extensively studied as a promising option for aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs) due to their cost-effectiveness and elevated operational potential. However, the poor electrical conductivity, structural deterioration and manganese dissolution lead to limited ion/electron transfer rate and rapid capacity decay which cannot satisfy the practical applications of high energy density storage devices with long cycle lifespan and superior rate capability. Herein, an individual Mn 2 O 3 nanoparticles self-assembled Mn 2 O 3 nanofiber cathode was designed via electrospinning and subsequent calcination strategy. The phase and morphology structures can affect the electrochemical zinc storage performance by adjusting the annealing temperature. Benefitting from its unique structure, the Mn 2 O 3 -550 electrode exhibited predominantly capacitive-controlled zinc-ion storage behavior and enhanced electron and ion transfer kinetics, delivering a reversible capacity of ~ 228.8 mAh g –1 with a high loading mass of 2.0 ~ 2.5 mg cm −2 . Furthermore, this innovative approach can be universally applied to create diverse Mn-based and V-based oxide materials featuring unique nanostructures, offering great potential for the development of high-performance energy storage device electrodes.
