Abstract:Conventional phonon–electron interaction induces either triplet or one of two (degenerate) singlet pairing states in time reversal and inversion invariant 3D Dirac semi-metal. Investigation of the order parameters and energies of these states at zero temperature in a wide range of values of chemical potential µ , the effective electron–electron coupling constant λ and Debye energy T D demonstrates that when the exchange interaction is neglected the singlet always prevails, however, in signiﬁcant portions of the (µ, λ, T D ) parameter space the energy difference is very small. This means that interactions that are small, but discriminate between the spin singlet and the spin triplet, are important in order to determine the nature of the superconducting order there. The best candidate for such an interaction in the materials under consideration is the exchange (the Stoner term) characterized by constant λ ex . We show that at values of λ ex , much smaller than ones creating Stoner instability to ferromagnetism λ ex ∼ 1, the triplet pairing becomes energetically favored over the singlet ones. The 3D quantum critical point at µ = 0 is considered in detail. This can be realized experimentally in optically trapped cold atom systems.

Abstract:In a series of papers, we have proposed a non-perturbative field-theoretic approach to deal with strong electron-phonon and strong Coulomb interactions. The key ingredient of such an approach is to determine the full fermion-boson vertex corrections by solving a number of self-consistent Ward-Takahashi identities. Palle (see Phys. Rev. B 110, 026501 (2024), <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2404.02918" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2404.02918">arXiv:2404.02918</a>) argued that our Ward-Takahashi identities failed to include some important additional terms and thus are incorrect. We agree that our Ward-Takahashi identities have ignored some potentially important contributions and here give some remarks on the role played by the additional terms.

Abstract:In their comment <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="cond-mat/9710285" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/cond-mat/9710285">cond-mat/9710285</a> [Phys. Rev. Lett. 80, 5024 (1998)] den Hartog and van Wees (HW) raise objections against our analysis of the experimental data presented in <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="cond-mat/9708162" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/cond-mat/9708162">cond-mat/9708162</a> [Phys. Rev. Lett. 79, 1547 (1997)]. According to HW, we did not account for the quantum phase incoherence introduced by the Niobium compounds of the investigated Nb/Au hybrid samples. Here we show that and why this criticism is not justified. Some difficulties associated with a precise determination of the coherence lengths are discussed. It is discussed why these uncertainties do not have a qualitative impact on the results reported in our paper.

Abstract:State-of-the-art model Hamiltonians, like Fröhlich's, or density functional theory approaches to electron-phonon interaction suffer from a severe overscreening error. This is due to the incorrect treatment of the screening of the ionic potential. We derive a correct formulation of the electron-phonon interaction and demonstrate its validity by numerically implementing the new scheme in a paradigmatic material: MgB$_2$, a system whose double-gap, low-$T_c$ superconductivity depends on exceptionally high phonon linewidths. We find that the present treatment enhances the linewidths by $57 \%$ with respect to what has been previously reported for the anomalous $E_{2g}$ mode. We further discover that the $A_{2u}$ mode is also anomalous (its strong coupling being completely quenched by the overscreened expression). Our results deeply question methods based on state-of-the-art approaches and impact a wide range of fields such as thermal conductivity, phononic instabilities and non-equilibrium lattice dynamics.
