Abstract:Self-assembled 3D flower-like hierarchical spheres composed of small nanosheets and nanobelts of manganese oxide were prepared by a simple hydrothermal method at 125°C and 200°C, respectively in aqueous solution, without the assistance of any templates and SDAs. A mechanism involving two competitive factors, temperature and Coulomb interaction, was proposed to understand their formation. Morphology control of the product can be easily achieved by adjusting the reaction temperature according to this mechanism, which was supported by other parallel experiments. The product was characterized by XRD, TEM, FESEM and BET surface area analysis was also carried out.

Abstract:Novel tomato-shaped copper oxide crystals has been prepared by a simple hydrothermal method with the presence of Zn2+ ion. The ultrasonic pretreatment has proved to be the key factor during the synthesis process. Scanning electron microscope, energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry and powder X-ray diffraction were used to characterize the microstructure and morphology of the as-prepared products. The obtained tomato-shaped CuO particles were constructed by nanorods with the diameter of about 20 nm. The possible growth mechanism was proposed based on the experimental results. Abstract:PbMoO4 nanoparticles and pagodalike microcrystals have been controllably prepared by a simple sonochemical method without any surfactants. The as-prepared powders were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The results showed that the pH played a crucial role on the controllable synthesis of PbMoO4. Pagoda like microcrystals could be formed on acid condition, and nanocrystals were obtained in the case of pH 7 and pH 14. The synthesis mechanism was also discussed. Abstract:ZnO nanorod arrays with different morphologies have been synthesized on the zinc foil via a simple hydrothermal method which is both a convenient and inexpensive process. The key influencing factors including the solution concentration and the reaction time are all studied and compared carefully. Based on our investigation, it is found that the morphologies of ZnO crystals could be controlled and the transition of different morphologies is also realized successfully with the growing reaction time. Furthermore, the as-grown ZnO nanorods are single crystalline with a wurtzite structure. Finally, a reasonable mechanism to explain the different crystal morphologies is also discussed in detail.

Abstract:Three-dimensional (3D) TiO2 solid microspheres with different morphologies have been synthesized on a large scale by a simple hydrothermal method using titanium tetrachloride (TiCl4) as the titanium source and ammonium fluoride (NH4F) as the etchant. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and transmission electron microscope (TEM) studies show that the 3D solid microspheres, with an average diameter from hundreds of nanometers to several micrometers, are composed of numerous anatase TiO2 particles. In addition, the morphologies of the as-prepared 3D solid microspheres can be controlled by adjusting the dosage of NH4F and the reaction temperatures. The present study has enlarged the family of 3D solid microspheres, and offers a possible route for the synthesis of other inorganic hierarchical structures.

Abstract:A facile hydrothermal method has been developed for synthesis of nickel sulfide micro/nanostructure using Ni(NO3)2·6H2O as nickel source, SC(NH2)2 as sulfur source and 1,2-ethylenediamin/sodium dodecyl sulfate as surfactant. Different morphologies such as petal-, urchin- and sphere-like nickel sulfide structures have been synthesized by tuning the reaction time, reaction temperature, and the surfactant. The as-prepared products were characterized by X-ray diffraction, Field-emission scanning electron microscope, and Photoluminescence spectra. The relationship of the fluorescence properties with their morphology and phase was studied, and the possible growth mechanism of nickel sulfide structure was proposed based on the morphology evolution of nickel sulfide.

Abstract:The effects of different amino acids on the morphologies and orientations of electrodeposited ZnO were studied.It was found by SEM and XRD that amino acids had dramatic effects on the morphologies of electrodeposited ZnO.The porous nanostructures,donuts or trichoma spheres can be obtained through adding different amino acids.The electrodeposition method with amino acids as soft templets may supply a novel and facile way to synthesize functional materials that have special structures and morphologies.

Abstract:Zinc Oxide (ZnO) hierarchical microstructures with diverse morphologies were prepared through a simple one‐step hydrothermal method with zinc chloride and sodium hydroxide as source materials, and citric acid as the modifying agent. The structure and morphology of the samples were studied through X‐ray diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller specific surface area determination. The morphology of the samples was easily regulated by changing the concentration of citric acid. Branchy structures, porous flowers, porous microspheres, solid flowers, solid flower spheres, and solid spheres of ZnO were obtained. The porous structures obtained with 150–200 mmol · L −1 citric acid showed excellent photocatalytic activities for the degradation of methylene blue under UV irradiation. A possible regulation mechanism of citric acid in ZnO crystals was proposed based on the experimental results.

Abstract:In this paper, H2O2 was used to control the morphology of Ni-B nanoparticles prepared by chemical reduction of nickel ethylenediamine complex. With increasing H2O2 concentration, Ni-B nanoparticle morphology progressed from pompon-like to sea urchin-like and finally to a flower-like shape. The controlled morphology was the result of dynamic equilibrium between the reduction of nickel ions by KBH4 and oxidation dissolution of Ni-B nanoparticles due to etching by H2O2. Additionally, the Ni-B catalyst nanoparticles had large BET areas and more uniform Ni active centers on the surface. However, excess H2O2 could disrupt the dynamic equilibrium, allowing the production of various structures of Ni-B nanoparticles. The catalyst composition with a molar ratio of 1:1 Ni ion to H2O2 showed the best activity toward electrocatalytic oxidation of ethanol. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:Starting from Ni-Co-Mn carbonate nanoparticles prepared by microreaction technology, uniform spherical particles of Ni1/3Co1/3Mn1/3CO3 with a size of 3–4 μm were obtained by a controllable hydrothermal conversion with the addition of (NH4)2CO3. Based on characterizations on the evolution of morphology and composition with hydrothermal treatment time, we clarified the mechanism of this novel method as a dissolution-recrystallization process, as well as the effects of (NH4)2CO3 concentration on the morphology and composition of particles. By changing concentrations and the ratio of the starting materials for nano-precipitation preparation, we achieved monotonic regulation on the size of the spherical particles, and the synthesis of Ni0.4Co0.2Mn0.4CO3 and Ni0.5Co0.2Mn0.3CO3, respectively. In addition, the spherical particles with a core-shell structure were preliminarily verified to be available by introducing nano-precipitates with different compositions in the hydrothermal treatment in sequence.

Abstract:Cu2O microcrystals with various shapes were obtained by reducing copper nitrate with formic acid, employing NH3 center dot H2O as the morphology tailor. The volume of NH3 center dot H2O plays a key role in controlling the final morphology, and hence Cu2O with various shapes, such as sphere, hexapod, octahedron, truncated octahedron and rhombic dodecahedron can be obtained by varying the concentration of NH3 center dot H2O in the solution. Time-dependent experiments strongly showed that all the microcrystals originated from the intermediate octahedron microcrystal. We found that the intermediate octahedron microcrystal evolved directly from a microsphere. The growth of the microsphere could be divided into two steps: nanoparticles isokinetically aggregated quickly to produce a submicrometer-sphere, and then a microsphere formed by mass transportation. The shape evolution of the microcrystal in the present reaction system is quite meaningful to the growth process of the Cu2O microcrystal.

Abstract:In this article, different Ni(OH)(2) nanostructures have been synthesized through a facile template-and surfactant-free approach. By adding additives, changing the nickel source or choosing different solvents, nickel hydroxide can be controllably synthesized from beta-Ni(OH)(2) nanodisks to hierarchical beta-Ni(OH)(2) superstructures assembled by nanoplate building blocks. This approach is very easy and only 2-3 chemicals and no template or surfactant are used. The growth rate has the most influence on the formation of beta-Ni(OH)(2) nanostructures with different assembling modes. The obtained beta-Ni(OH)(2) samples show different electrochemical behaviors with different superstructures. Furthermore, cubic nickel oxide (NiO) crystals with nanopores have also been successfully obtained by thermal decomposition of the as-synthesized beta-Ni(OH)(2) in air. The magnetic parameters of these NiO nanostructures are different and related to the change of the superstructures.

More importantly, the as-obtained LiCoO2 nanocrystals showed different electrochemical performance depending on their morphology, indicating that Li-insertion/deintercalation dynamics might be crystal face-sensitive.

Abstract:Nanosized organosilica particles with tunable morphology are of great interest for versatile applications because of their enhanced properties. However, it is still a great challenge to control the morphology during fabrication of organosilica nanoparticles (NPs). In this study, a facile approach based on flash nano-precipitation (FNP) technique is presented, which achieves an efficient fabrication of organosilica NPs with controllable morphology by utilizing an amphiphilic block copolymer poly(2-(dimethylamino) ethylmethylacrylate-b-poly(epsilon-caprolactone) (PDMAEMA-b-PCL) as the stabilizer. Such a preparation process is performed in a multi-inlet vortex mixer that enables an intense mixing of the silicon precursor with the aqueous solution of a catalyst at an ultrashort time scale, leading to the formation of numerous tiny reaction droplets stabilized by PDMAEMA-b-PCL, followed by the basic-catalyzed hydrolytic condensation. Interestingly, by controlling the composition and mixing parameter of feeding streams involved in the FNP process, golf ball-like, cubic, bowl-like, and hollow organosilica NPs can be easily obtained. The resultant NPs show a narrow size distribution and are expected to find potential applications in various fields, such as nanomedicine, nanocatalysts, and adsorption separation.

Abstract:A variety of mesoporous nickel oxide (NiO) nanostructures have been prepared by annealing the corresponding beta-Ni(OH)(2) precursor nanostructures synthesized through manipulating the reaction parameters (e.g., alkaline sources, reactant concentration). Moreover, the formation mechanisms of different nanostructures were tentatively discussed, based on their morphological evolution processes. Furthermore, experimental results indicate that the electrochemical performances of as-synthesized NiO nanomaterials are correlated to their morphologies and reaction scheme, and their cyclic stability should be improved for potential application in lithium-ion batteries.

Abstract:NiO microspheres were successfully obtained by calcining the Ni(OH)2 precursor, which were synthesized via the hydrothermal reaction of nickel chloride, glucose and ammonia. The products were characterized by TGA, XRD and SEM. The influences of glucose and reaction temperature on the morphologies of NiO samples were investigated. Moreover, the possible growth mechanism for the spherical morphology was proposed. The charge/discharge test showed that the as-prepared NiO microspheres composed of nanoparticles can serve as an ideal electrode material for supercapacitor due to the spherical hollow structure.

Abstract:Hierarchical NiCo2O4 micro-/nanostructures constructed with mesoporous nanowire or nanosheet building blocks have been controllably fabricated via a facile two-step strategy involving a solvothermal route and a post-annealing treatment. The tunable morphologies can be easily achieved through simply altering the properties of the reaction solvents. The well-defined hierarchical NiCo2O4 micro-/nanostructures apparently possess intriguing structural advantages, such as fast electron and ion transport, high electroactive surface area, and excellent mechanical stability. As a result, the two hierarchical NiCo2O4 micro-/nanostructures demonstrate large specific capacitance coupled with excellent cycling stability when evaluated as striking electrode materials for high-performance electrochemical capacitors.

Abstract:The disk-like, flower-like and nanorod flower-like ZnO nanostructures have been controllably fabricated by citric acid (CA) assisted hydrothermal process. All the ZnO nanostructures are hexagonal and single crystal in nature. The effects of the growth conditions such as temperature, pH value and the molar ratio of Zn2+ and CA on the morphology of ZnO nanostructures have also been investigated. It is considered that CA has a critical role in the formation of disk-like ZnO nanostructure. The pH value is the main factor to determine the anisotropic growth. The blue shift in the ZnO nanostructures is observed. Finally, the mechanism for CA assisted hydrothermal synthesis of the ZnO nanostructure is discussed.
