In this article, we study the total graph of R, denoted by τ(R), determine some of its basic graph-theoretical properties, determine when it is Eulerian, and find some conditions under which this graph is isomorphic to Cay(R, Z(R) \ {0}). We shall also compute the domination number of τ(R).

Abstract:Let R be a commutative ring and Z(R) be its set of all zero-divisors. The total graph of R, denoted by T Γ(R), is the undirected graph with vertex set R and two distinct vertices x and y are adjacent if and only if x + y ∈ Z(R). denotes the complement of T Γ(R). The study on total graphs has been initiated by D. F. Anderson and A. Badawi [2]. In this article, we characterize all commutative rings whose total graph (or its complement) is in some known class of graphs. Also we determine the structure whenever |Reg(R)| = 2. Further, we obtain certain necessary conditions for to be connected whenever is connected and prove that . It is also proved that if diam(T Γ(R)) = 2, then T Γ(R) is Hamiltonian, which is a generalization of a characterization proved by S. Akbari et al. [1].

Abstract:Let R be a commutative ring and Z(R) be its set of all zero-divisors. The total graph of R, denoted by TΓ(R), is the undirected graph with vertex set R, and two distinct vertices x and y are adjacent if and only if x + y ∈ Z(R). Maimani et al. [13] determined all isomorphism classes of finite commutative rings whose total graph has genus at most one. In this article, after enumerating certain lower and upper bounds for genus of the total graph of a commutative ring, we characterize all isomorphism classes of finite commutative rings whose total graph has genus two.

Abstract:Let R be a commutative ring with unity and R+ and Z*(R) be the additive group and the set of all nonzero zero-divisors of R, respectively. We denote by ℂ𝔸𝕐(R) the Cayley graph Cay(R+, Z*(R)). In this article, we study ℂ𝔸𝕐(R). Among other results, it is shown that for every zero-dimensional nonlocal ring R, ℂ𝔸𝕐(R) is a connected graph of diameter 2. Moreover, for a finite ring R, we obtain the vertex connectivity and the edge connectivity of ℂ𝔸𝕐(R). As a result, ℂ𝔸𝕐(R) gives an algebraic construction for vertex transitive graphs of maximum connectivity. In addition, we characterize all zero-dimensional semilocal rings R whose ℂ𝔸𝕐(R) is perfect. We also study Reg(ℂ𝔸𝕐(R)) the induced subgraph on the regular elements of R. This graph gives a family of vertex transitive graphs as well. We show that if R is a Noetherian ring and Reg(ℂ𝔸𝕐(R)) has no infinite clique, then R is finite. Furthermore, for every finite ring R, the clique number and the chromatic number of Reg(ℂ𝔸𝕐(R)) are determined.

The Non-Nilpotent Graph of a Semigroup

Abstract:We associate a graph ${\mathcal N}_{S}$ with a semigroup $S$ (called the upper non-nilpotent graph of $S$). The vertices of this graph are the elements of $S$ and two vertices are adjacent if they generate a semigroup that is not nilpotent (in the sense of Malcev). In case $S$ is a group this graph has been introduced by A. Abdollahi and M. Zarrin and some remarkable properties have been proved. The aim of this paper is to study this graph (and some related graphs, such as the non-commuting graph) and to discover the algebraic structure of $S$ determined by the associated graph. It is shown that if a finite semigroup $S$ has empty upper non-nilpotent graph then $S$ is positively Engel. On the other hand, a semigroup has a complete upper non-nilpotent graph if and only if it is a completely simple semigroup that is a band. One of the main results states that if all connected ${\mathcal N}_{S}$-components of a semigroup $S$ are complete (with at least two elements) then $S$ is a band that is a semilattice of its connected components and, moreover, $S$ is an iterated total ideal extension of its connected components. We also show that some graphs, such as a cycle $C_{n}$ on $n$ vertices (with $n\geq 5$), are not the upper non-nilpotent graph of a semigroup. Also, there is precisely one graph on 4 vertices that is not the upper non-nilpotent graph of a semigroup with 4 elements. This work also is a continuation of earlier work by Okniński, Riley and the first named author on (Malcev) nilpotent semigroups.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the Sombor index of the total graph and unit graph of $\mathbb{Z}_n$ which is denoted by $T_{\Gamma}(\mathbb{Z}_n)$ and $G(\mathbb{Z}_n)$ respectively for $n \in \{2k, p^{\alpha}, pq, p^2q\}$ where $p$ and $q$ are distinct odd prime numbers such that $p < q$. Moreover, we compute the Sombor index of any finite local ring.

Abstract:A commutative ring over a graph was first studied by Beck in 1988. The properties of zero-divisor graphs of commutative and non-commutative rings were then studied extensively. The commutative ring over graph is also widely used in robotics, communication theory, and elliptic curve cryptography. In this paper, we derive a few degree-based topological expressions namely, the first Zagreb index and the forgotten index of zero-divisor graphs of , and where p and q are primes. The numerical expression of the zero-divisor graphs is analysed and compared the indices graphically and numerically.

Abstract:Let S be a commutative semigroup with zero. The zero-divisor graph associated with S is the simple graph whose vertex set is given by the nonzero zero-divisors of S where two distinct vertices are adjacent if and only if their product is zero. A graph is called complemented if every vertex has an incident edge which is not the edge of any three cycle. Complemented zero-divisor graphs which are associated with a finite commutative semigroup are described in terms of their clique number. The algebraic properties of the finite semigroups S whose zero-divisor graphs are complemented are described in terms of the clique number of the graph. Infinite families of complemented zero-divisor graphs associated with a finite commutative semigroup are given.

Abstract:Let $S$ be a semigroup with $0$ and $R$ be a ring with $1$. We extend the definition of the zero-divisor graphs of commutative semigroups to not necessarily commutative semigroups. We define an annihilating-ideal graph of a ring as a special type of zero-divisor graph of a semigroup. We introduce two ways to define the zero-divisor graphs of semigroups. The first definition gives a directed graph ${\Gamma}(S)$, and the other definition yields an undirected graph $\overline{\Gamma}(S)$. It is shown that $\Gamma(S)$ is not necessarily connected, but $\overline{\Gamma}(S)$ is always connected and ${\rm diam}(\overline{\Gamma}(S))\leq 3$. For a ring $R$ define a directed graph $\Bbb{APOG}(R)$ to be equal to $\Gamma(\Bbb{IPO}(R))$, where $\Bbb{IPO}(R)$ is a semigroup consisting of all products of two one-sided ideals of $R$, and define an undirected graph $\overline{\Bbb{APOG}}(R)$ to be equal to $\overline{\Gamma}(\Bbb{IPO}(R))$. We show that $R$ is an Artinian (resp., Noetherian) ring if and only if $\Bbb{APOG}(R)$ has DCC (resp., ACC) on some special subset of its vertices. Also, It is shown that $\overline{\Bbb{APOG}}(R)$ is a complete graph if and only if either $(D(R))^{2}=0$, $R$ is a direct product of two division rings, or $R$ is a local ring with maximal ideal $\mathfrak{m}$ such that $\Bbb{IPO}(R)=\{0,\mathfrak{m},\mathfrak{m}^{2}, R\}$. Finally, we investigate the diameter and the girth of square matrix rings over commutative rings $M_{n\times n}(R)$ where $n\geq 2$.

Abstract:Graph inverse semigroups generalize the polycyclic inverse monoids and play an important role in the theory of C*-algebras. This paper has two main goals: first, to provide an abstract characterization of graph inverse semigroups; and second, to show how they may be completed, under suitable conditions, to form what we call the Cuntz-Krieger semigroup of the graph. This semigroup is the ample semigroup of a topological groupoid associated with the graph, and the semigroup analogue of the Leavitt path algebra of the graph.

Abstract:The algebraic polynomial plays a significant role in mathematical chemistry to compute the exact expressions of distance-based, degree-distance-based, and degree-based topological indices. The topological index is utilized as a significant tool in the study of the quantitative structure activity relationship (QSAR) and quantitative structures property relationship (QSPR) which correlate a molecular structure to its different properties and activities. Graphs containing finite commutative rings have wide applications in robotics, information and communication theory, elliptic curve cryptography, physics, and statistics. In this article, the topological indices of the total graph T Z n n ∈ Z + , the zero divisor graph Γ Z r n ( r is prime, n ∈ Z + ), and the zero divisor graph Γ Z r × Z s × Z t ( r , s , t are primes) are computed using some algebraic polynomials.

Abstract:Let $R$ be a ring (not necessary commutative) with non-zero identity. The unit graph of $R$, denoted by $G(R)$, is a graph with elements of $R$ as its vertices and two distinct vertices $a$ and $b$ are adjacent if and only if $a+b$ is a unit element of $R$. It was proved that if $R$ is a commutative ring and $\fm$ is a maximal ideal of $R$ such that $|R/\fm|=2$, then $G(R)$ is a complete bipartite graph if and only if $(R, \fm)$ is a local ring. In this paper we generalize this result by showing that if $R$ is a ring (not necessary commutative), then $G(R)$ is a complete $r$-partite graph if and only if $(R, \fm)$ is a local ring and $r=|R/m|=2^n$, for some $n \in \N$ or $R$ is a finite field. Among other results we show that if $R$ is a left Artinian ring, $2 \in U(R)$ and the clique number of $G(R)$ is finite, then $R$ is a finite ring.

Abstract:Let $R$ and $S$ be commutative rings with identity, $f:R\to S$ a ring homomorphism and $J$ an ideal of $S$. Then the subring $R\bowtie^fJ:=\{(r,f(r)+j)\mid r\in R$ and $j\in J\}$ of $R\times S$ is called the amalgamation of $R$ with $S$ along $J$ with respect to $f$. In this paper, we generalize and improve recent results on the computation of the diameter of the zero-divisor graph of amalgamated algebras and obtain new results. In particular, we provide new characterizations for completeness of the zero-divisor graph of amalgamated algebra, as well as, a complete description for the diameter of the zero-divisor graph of amalgamations in the special case of finite rings.

Abstract:For a commutative semigroup $S$ with 0, the zero-divisor graph of $S$ denoted by $\Gamma(S)$ is the graph whose vertices are nonzero zero-divisor of $S$, and two vertices $x$, $y$ are adjacent in case $xy=0$ in $S$. Abstract:The cyclic graph $\Gamma(S)$ of a semigroup $S$ is the simple graph whose vertex set is $S$ and two vertices $x, y$ are adjacent if the subsemigroup generated by $x$ and $y$ is monogenic. In this paper, we classify the semigroup $S$ such that whose cyclic graph $\Gamma(S)$ is complete, bipartite, tree, regular and a null graph, respectively. Further, we determine the clique number of $\Gamma(S)$ for an arbitrary semigroup $S$. We obtain the independence number of $\Gamma(S)$ if $S$ is a finite monogenic semigroup. At the final part of this paper, we give bounds for independence number of $\Gamma(S)$ if $S$ is a semigroup of bounded exponent and we also characterize the semigroups attaining the bounds.
