Abstract:Bell state measurement plays a pivotal role in the realm of quantum communication, yet a definitive solution for achieving complete Bell state measurement remains unclear. In this paper, we propose a theoretical scheme for four-dimensional orbital angular momentum Bell state measurement, harnessing the polarization and frequency degree of freedom as auxiliary tools. Within this scheme, the input state traverses a hyperentangled state analyzer comprised of quantum logic gates, ultimately enabling the realization of Bell state measurement in a four-dimensional mode. Simultaneously, serving as a novel avenue to enhance the capacity of quantum communication, this scheme has potential applications in realizing large-capacity quantum communication.

Abstract:We present a simple protocol for complete analysis of 16 hyperentangled Bell states of two-photon system in the polarization and the first longitudinal momentum degrees of freedom (DOFs). This complete analysis protocol is accomplished with the auxiliary hyperentangled Bell state in the frequency and the second longitudinal momentum DOFs utilizing the experimentally available optical elements including linear optical elements which manipulate the polarizations and the longitudinal momentums and the optical devices which manipulate frequencies of photons. This complete analysis protocol allows the transmission of log216=4 bits of classical information via quantum hyperdense coding scheme, which is the upper bound of the transmission capacity of the quantum hyperdense coding scheme based on 16 orthogonal hyperentangled Bell states. This complete analysis protocol has a potential to be experimentally realized and is useful for high-capacity quantum communication based on hyperentangled states.

Abstract:It is impossible to unambiguously distinguish the four Bell states in polarization, resorting to linear optical elements only. Recently, the hyperentangled Bell state, the simultaneous entanglement in more than one degree of freedom, has been used to assist in the complete Bell-state analysis of the four Bell states. However, if the additional degree of freedom is qubitlike, one can only distinguish 7 from the group of 16 states. Here we present a way to distinguish the hyperentangled Bell states completely with the help of cross-Kerr nonlinearity. Also, we discuss its application in the quantum teleportation of a particle in an unknown state in two different degrees of freedom and in the entanglement swapping of hyperentangled states. These applications will increase the channel capacity of long-distance quantum communication.

Abstract:Violation of Bell???s inequalities shows strong conflict between quantum mechanics and local realism. Loophole-free Bell tests not only deepen understanding of quantum mechanics, but are also important foundations for device-independent (DI) tasks in quantum information. High-dimensional quantum systems offer a significant advantage over qubits for closing the detection loophole. In the symmetric scenario, a detection efficiency as low as 61.8% can be tolerated using four-dimensional states and a four -setting Bell inequality [Phys. Rev. Lett. 104, 060401 (2010)]. For the first time, we show that four-dimensional entangled photons violate a Bell inequality while closing the detection loophole in experiment. The detection efficiency of the four-dimensional entangled source is about 71.7%, and the fidelity of the state is 0.995 ?? 0.001. Combining the technique of multicore fibers, the realization of loophole-free high -dimensional Bell tests and high-dimensional quantum DI technologies are promising.

Abstract:Photons may have homogeneous polarization and may carry qua ntized orbital angular momentum (OAM). Photon entanglement has been realized in various degrees of fre edom such as polarization and OAM. Using a pair of orthogonally polarized states carrying opposite-handedn ess quantized OAMs could create “quantized” vectorpolarization states with space-variant polarization stru ctures. It is thus possible to extend the polarization degre e of freedom from two dimensional space to indefinite dimensio al discreteHilbert space. We present a class of vector-polarization entangled Bell states, which use the s patial modes of the vector fields with space-variant polarization structure. We propose a scheme of creating the vector-polarization entangled Bell states using a Sagnac interferometer. We also design an analyzer for ident ifying the vector-polarization entangled Bell states. Such a class of entanglement is important for quantum inform ation science and technology, and fundamental issues of quantum theory, due to its advantage of the increas e in information capacity.

Abstract:Full control of multiple degrees of freedom of multiple particles represents a fundamental ability for quantum information processing. We experimentally demonstrate an 18-qubit Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger entanglement by simultaneous exploiting three different degrees of freedom of six photons, including their paths, polarization, and orbital angular momentum. We develop high-stability interferometers for reversible quantum logic operations between the photons' different degrees of freedom with precision and efficiencies close to unity, enabling simultaneous readout of 2^{18}=262 144 outcome combinations of the 18-qubit state. A state fidelity of 0.708±0.016 is measured, confirming the genuine entanglement of all 18 qubits.

Abstract: Quantum protocols require access to large-scale entangled quantum states, due to the requirement of channel capacity. As a promising candidate, the high-dimensional orbital angular momentum (OAM) entangled states have been implemented, but only one of four OAM Bell states in each individual subspace can be distinguished. Here we demonstrate the first realization of complete OAM Bell-state measurement (OAM-BSM) in an individual subspace, by seeking the suitable unitary matrix performable using only linear optics and breaking the degeneracy of four OAM Bell states in ancillary polarization dimension. We further realize the superdense coding via our complete OAMBSM with the average success probability of ~82% and the channel capacity of ~1.1(4) bits. This work opens the window for increasing the channel capacity and extending the applications of OAM quantum states in quantum information in future.

Abstract:A central theme in quantum information science is to coherently control an increasing number of quantum particles as well as their internal and external degrees of freedom (DoFs), meanwhile maintaining a high level of coherence. The ability to create and verify multiparticle entanglement with individual control and measurement of each qubit serves as an important benchmark for quantum technologies. To this end, genuine multipartite entanglement have been reported up to 14 trapped ions, 10 photons, and 10 superconducting qubits. Here, we experimentally demonstrate an 18-qubit Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) entanglement by simultaneous exploiting three different DoFs of six photons, including their paths, polarization, and orbital angular momentum (OAM). We develop high-stability interferometers for reversible quantum logic operations between the photon's different DoFs with precision and efficiencies close to unity, enabling simultaneous readout of 262,144 outcome combinations of the 18-qubit state. A state fidelity of 0.708(16) is measured, confirming the genuine entanglement of all the 18 qubits.

Abstract:High-dimensional maximally entangled orbital angular momentum (OAM) states are a promising resource for enhancing information capacity and robustness in quantum communication. However, it still lacks an effective method to increase the state dimensionality. Here, we theoretically propose an efficient scheme to generate maximally entangled OAM states of ultrahigh dimensionality by manipulating the radial components of a Laguerre-Gaussian (LG) pump beam. By optimizing the complex amplitudes of multiple radial modes of the LG pump light, one can feasibly achieve 101-dimensional OAM-based maximally entangled states. Our scheme has potential applications in high capacity quantum communication networks.
Generation and Complete Analysis of the Hyperentangled Bell State for Photons Assisted by Quantum-Dot Spins in Optical Microcavities

Abstract:We propose a scheme for the production of hyperentangled photon pairs as well as for the complete differentiation of 16 hyperentangled Bell states in both polarization and spatial-mode degrees of freedom using the quantum-dot cavity systems. This hyperentangled-Bell-state photon generation and the complete hyperentangled-Bell-state-analysis device can serve as crucial components of the high-capacity, long-distance quantum communication. We use the hyperentanglement quantum repeater as an example to show the application of this device. When the hyperentanglement quantum repeater operation is complete, two parties that are far from each other in quantum communication can share two Bell-state spin pairs simultaneously. By using numerical calculations we prove that the present scheme can both work in the weak-and strong-coupling regimes with current technology.

Abstract:Bell state measurement (BSM) plays a vital role in quantum information. There are many researches on BSM of qubit Bell state, however, there is no definite solution of how to realize high-dimensional Bell state measurement (HDBSM). In this paper, We present a scheme for realizing arbitrary high-dimensional two-particle Bell state measurement by auxiliary entanglement. In our scheme, the maximal entangled states with different degrees of freedom (DOF) are used as auxiliary states, and then the HDBSM can be achieved by implementing Bell measurement with different degrees of freedom. We present the detailed HDBSM scheme for three and four-dimensional Bell state, and the general formula for arbitrary high-dimensional Bell state. Furthermore, We have designed the experimental scheme for three-dimensional BSM, and given the method of arbitrary dimension. This method can promote the high-dimensional quantum information task.

Abstract:Orbital angular momentum (OAM) entanglement states have great potential in enhancing the information capacity in quantum communications. To make full use of the OAM degree of freedom, the measurement and distinction of OAM Bell states become a key step that needs to be accomplished. However, there is still no solution to achieve complete distinction of OAM Bell states at the single-photon level. Here we demonstrate the complete OAM Bell-state measurement without auxiliary photons by using linear optics. Furthermore, we propose a quantum communication network via OAM Bell-state multiplexing, perform a proof-of-principle experiment in the first- and second-order OAM subspaces for two users, and achieve average success probabilities of obtaining information of 91.6% for User-I and 89.1% for User-II. In principle, our scheme allows more users to be added by using high-order OAM Bell states. Our research extends the manipulation method for high-dimensional quantum states and paves the way for the application of OAM multiplexing in quantum communications.

Abstract:Multi-partite entangled states are important for developing studies of quantum networking and quantum computation. To date, the largest number of particles that have been successfully manipulated is 14 trapped ions. Yet in quantum information science, photons have particular advantages over other systems. In particular, they are more easily transportable qubits and are more robust against decoherence. Thus far, the largest number of photons to have been successfully manipulated in an experiment is six. Here we demonstrate, for the first time, an eight-photon Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger state with a measured fidelity of 0.59±0.02, which proved the presence of genuine eight-partite entanglement. This is achieved by improving the photon detection efficiency to 25% with a 300-mW pump laser. With this state, we also demonstrate an eight-party quantum communication complexity scenario. This eight-photon entangled-state source may be useful in one-way quantum computation, quantum networks and other quantum information processing tasks.

Abstract:Quantum entanglement is a fundamental resource for secure information processing and communications. The canonical optical quantum information processing encodes a single qubit per photon, with remarkable demonstrations of secure quantum communications, linear optical quantum computing amongst others. Often the polarization qubit, a discrete variable with entangled Bell states, is used. Continuous variables such as energy-time modes and spatial modes, however, present a dramatically larger Hilbert space for quantum information processing. The high-dimensional entanglement capture more qubits per photon, enabling dramatically higher secure key rates over longer distances and with better error resilience. Here I will describe our results on high-dimensional entanglement in quantum frequency combs for dense quantum communications. We first demonstrate revival of the Hong-Ou-Mandel interferences, long postulated by theorists more than a decade ago, up to 19-dimensions and with visibilities up to 96.5%. The mode-locked two-photon state in high-dimensions is further witnessed through a stabilized Franson interferometer, as a generalized Bell’s inequality test and hyperentangled through multiple degrees-of-freedom. Entanglement revivals of the non-local interference at discrete time-bins are uncovered, up to 97.8% visibility, as a fundamental resource for dense secure information processing.

Abstract:Quantum correlations in observables of multiple systems not only are offundamental interest, but also play a key role in quantum informationprocessing. As a signature of these correlations, the violation of Bellinequalities has not been demonstrated with multipartite hybrid entanglementinvolving both continuous and discrete variables. Here we create a five-partiteentangled state with three superconducting transmon qubits and two photonicqubits, each encoded in the mesoscopic field of a microwave cavity. We revealthe quantum correlations among these distinct elements by joint Wignertomography of the two cavity fields conditional on the detection of the qubitsand by test of a five-partite Bell inequality. The measured Bell signal is8.381±0.038, surpassing the bound of 8 for a four-partite entanglementimposed by quantum correlations by 10 standard deviations, demonstrating thegenuine five-partite entanglement in a hybrid quantum system.
Non-inertial motion dependent entangled Bell-state

Abstract:We show the targeted phase-manipulation of an entangled photonic Bell state via non-inertial motion. To this end, we place a very compact laboratory, consisting of a SPDC source and a Sagnac interferometer, on a rotating platform (non-inertial reference frame). The photon pairs of a $\ket{\phi}$-state are in a superposition of co- and counter-rotation. The phase of the $\ket{\phi}$-state is linearly dependent on the angular velocity of the rotating platform due to the Sagnac effect. We measure the visibility and certify entanglement with the Bell-CHSH parameter $S$. Additionally, we conduct a partial quantum state tomography on the Bell states in a non-inertial environment. Our experiment showcases the unitary transformation of an entangled state via non-inertial motion and constitutes not only a switch between a $\ket{\phi^{-}}$-state and a $\ket{\phi^{+}}$-state but also a further experiment at the interplay of non-inertial motion and quantum physics.

Abstract:The physics associated with multipartite high-dimensional entanglement is different from that of multipartite two-dimensional entanglement. Therefore, preparing multipartite highdimensional entanglements with linear optics is challenging. This study proposes a preparation protocol of multiphoton GHZ state with arbitrary dimensions for optical systems. Auxiliary entanglements realize a high-dimensional entanglement gate to connect the high-dimensional entangled pairs to a multipartite high-dimensional GHZ state. Specifically, we use the path degrees of freedom of photons to prepare a four-partite, three-dimensional GHZ state. Our method can be extended to other degrees of freedom to generate arbitrary GHZ entanglements in any dimension.
