Abstract:Employing the general BXOR operation and local state discrimination, the mixed state of the form \rho^{(k)}_{d}=\frac{1}{d^{2}}\sum_{m,n=0}^{d-1}(|\phi_{mn}><\phi_{mn}|)^{\otim es k} is proved to be quasi-pure, where $\{|\phi_{mn}>\}$ is the canonical set of mutually orthogonal maximally entangled states in $d\times d$. Therefore irreversibility does not occur in the process of distillation for this family of states. Also, the distillable entanglement is calculated explicitly.

Abstract:The stationary entanglement and Bell violation of two qubits collectively interacting with a common thermal reservoir is investigated, and the analytical relations among average thermal photon number of the reservoir, entanglement and Bell violation of two qubits are given in detail. The initial fraction of Bell singlet state determines whether the common thermal reservoir can enhance the entanglement of two qubits or not in this case. Moreover, the stationary maximally entangled mixed state can emerge in the collective decay of two qubits in a thermal reservoir at zero-temperature only if the fraction of Bell singlet state in the initial state is not smaller than 2/3. Furthermore, it is shown that the collective decay can induce the entanglement of two qutrits initially in the maximally mixed state, and induce distillable entanglement from bound entangled states.

Abstract:We consider one copy of a quantum system prepared with equal prior probability in one of two nonorthogonal entangled states of multipartite distributed among separated parties. We demonstrate that these two states can be optimally distinguished in the sense of conclusive discrimination by local operations and classical communications alone. This proves strictly the conjecture that Virmani et al. confirmed numerically and analytically. Generally the optimal protocol requires local POVM operations which are explicitly constructed. The result manifests that distinguishable information is obtained only and completely at the last operation and all prior operations give no information about that state.

Abstract:We prove that rank-three bipartite entangled states are distillable. So there are no bound rank-three bipartite entangled states. By using this fact, we present some families of rank-four states that are distillable. We also analyze the relation between the rank-three state and the Werner state.

Abstract:It is well known that any entangled mixed state in $2\otimes 2$ systems can be purified via infinite copies of the mixed state. But can one distill a pure maximally entangled state from finite copies of a mixed state in any bipartite system by local operation and classical communication? This is more meaningful in practical application. We give a necessary and sufficient condition of this distillability. This condition can be expressed as: there exists distillable-subspaces. According to this condition, one can judge whether a mixed state is distillable or not easily. We also analyze some properties of distillable-subspaces, and discuss the most efficient purification protocols. Finally, we discuss the distillable enanglement of two-quibt system for the case of finite copies.

Abstract:Entanglement is at the heart of quantum theory and is responsible for various quantum-enabling technologies. In practice, during its preparation, storage, and distribution to the intended recipients, this valuable quantum resource may suffer from noisy interactions that reduce its usefulness for the desired information-processing tasks. Conventional schemes of entanglement distillation aim to alleviate this problem by performing collective operations on multiple copies of these decohered states and sacrificing some of them to recover Bell pairs. However, for this scheme to work, the states to be distilled should already contain a large enough fraction of maximally entangled states before these collective operations. Not all entangled quantum states meet this premise. Here, by using the paradigmatic family of two-qutrit Werner states as an exemplifying example, we experimentally demonstrate how one may use single-copy local filtering operations to meet this requirement and to recover the quantumness hidden in these higher-dimensional states. Among others, our results provide the first proof-of-principle experimental certification of the Bell-nonlocal properties of these intriguing entangled states, the activation of their usefulness for quantum teleportation, dense coding, and an enhancement of their quantum steerability, and hence usefulness for certain discrimination tasks. Our theoretically established lower bounds on the steering robustness of these states, when they admit a symmetric quasiextension or a bosonic symmetric extension, and when they show hidden dense-codability may also be of independent interest.

Abstract:We experimentally demonstrate optimal entanglement distillation from two forms of two-qubit mixed states under local filtering operations according to the constructive method intruduced by [F. Verstraete , Phys. Rev. A 64, 010101(R) (2001)]. In principle, our setup can be easily applied to distilling entanglement from arbitrary two-qubit partially mixed states. We also test the violation of the Clauser-Horne-Shinmony-Holt inequality for the distilled state from the first form of mixed state to show its "hidden nonlocality".

Abstract:Assume that Alice, Bob, and Charlie share a tripartite pure state $|\psi_{ABC}\rangle$. We prove that if Alice cannot distill entanglement with either Bob or Charlie using $|\psi_{ABC}\rangle$ and local operations with any one of the following configurations for classical communication: $(A\to B, A\leftrightarrow C), (A\leftrightarrow B, A\to C),$ and $(A\leftrightarrow B, A\leftrightarrow C)$, then the same is also true for the other two configurations. Moreover, this happens precisely when the state is such that both its reductions on systems $AB$ and $AC$ are separable, which is further equivalent to the reductions being PPT. This, in particular, implies that any NPT bipartite state is such that either the state itself or its complement is 2-way distillable. To prove these results, we first obtain an explicit lower bound on the 2-way distillable entanglement of low rank bipartite states. Furthermore, we show that even though not all low rank states are 1-way distillable, a randomly sampled low rank state will almost surely be 1-way distillable.

Abstract:We consider one copy of a quantum system prepared in one of two nonorthogonal pure product states of multipartite distributed among separated parties. We show that there exist protocols that achieve optimal conclusive discrimination by means of local operations and classical communications as good as by global measurements. Also, we show a protocol that minimizes the average number of local operations, Our result implies that two pure product multipartite states might not have the nonlocal property although more than two can have.

Abstract:Modern Physics Letters B, Ahead of Print. In this paper, we delve into a nuanced aspect of the distillability problem within the realm of entanglement theory, specifically examining the distillability of anti-diagonal [math] entangled Werner states under the framework of local operations and classical communication (LOCC). To address this, we scrutinize a conjecture central to the distillability issue, initially focusing on its implications in 4-dimensional and 5-dimensional contexts. Through rigorous calculations, we establish that these cases align with the conjecture. Subsequently, we broaden our investigation to encompass [math] matrices, demonstrating that both even and odd n-dimensional anti-diagonal matrices are in concordance with the conjecture, thus contributing to a deeper understanding of the distillability problem in quantum entanglement.

Abstract:An important open problem in quantum information theory is the question of the existence of NPT bound entanglement. In the past years, little progress has been made, mainly because of the lack of mathematical tools to address the problem. (i) In an attempt to overcome this, we show how the distillability problem can be reformulated as a special instance of the separability problem, for which a large number of tools and techniques are available. (ii) Building up to this we also show how the problem can be formulated as a Schmidt number problem. (iii) A numerical method for detecting distillability is presented and strong evidence is given that all 1-copy undistillable Werner states are also 4-copy undistillable. (iv) The same method is used to estimate the volume of distillable states, and the results suggest that bound entanglement is primarily a phenomenon found in low dimensional quantum systems. (v) Finally, a set of one parameter states is presented which we conjecture to exhibit all forms of distillability.

Abstract:From the Heisenberg uncertainty relation in conjunction with partial transposition, we derive a class of inequalities for detecting entanglements in four-mode states. The sufficient conditions for bipartite entangled states are presented. We also discuss the generalization of the entanglement conditions via the Schrödinger-Robertson indeterminacy relation, which are in general stronger than those based on the Heisenberg uncertainty relation.

Abstract:We present a new method of constructing sets of states with known entanglement of formation. The method realizes the optimal decomposition families of states. We also derive the additivity of the entanglement of formation and thus calculate the entanglement cost. These results are used to find out the undistillable, entanglement of some states. We illustrate our method by investigating the two-qubit state, the separable state, the maximally correlated state, the isotropic state and the Werner state. We also discuss the realization of Werner state in experiment.

Abstract:We develop the probabilistic implementation of a nonlocal gate exp [iξσnAσnB ] and ξ ∈ [0, π 4 ], by using a single non-maximally entangled state. We prove that, nonlocal gates can be implemented with a fidelity greater than 79.3% and a consumption of less than 0.969 ebits and 2 classical bits, when ξ ≤ 0.353. This provides a higher bound for the feasible operation compared to the former techniques [9, 14, 16]. Besides, gates with ξ ≥ 0.353 can be implemented with the probability 79.3% and a consumption of 0.969 ebits, which is the same efficiency as the distillation-based protocol [14, 16], while our method saves extra classical resource. Gates with ξ → 0 can be implemented with nearly unit probability and a small entanglement. We also generalize some application to the multiple system, where we find it is possible to implement certain nonlocal gates between many non-entangled partners using a non-maximally multiple entangled state.

Abstract:We explicitly exhibit a set of four ququad-ququad orthogonal maximally entangled states that cannot be perfectly distinguished by means of local operations and classical communication. Before our work, it was unknown whether there is a set of d locally indistinguishable d⊗d orthogonal maximally entangled states for some positive integer d. We further show that a 2⊗2 maximally entangled state can be used to locally distinguish this set of states without being consumed, thus demonstrate a novel phenomenon of entanglement discrimination catalysis. Based on this set of states, we construct a new set K consisting of four locally indistinguishable states such that K(⊗m) (with 4(m) members) is locally distinguishable for some m greater than one. As an immediate application, we construct a noisy quantum channel with one sender and two receivers whose local zero-error classical capacity can achieve the full dimension of the input space but only with a multi-shot protocol.

Abstract: We investigate the stationary entanglement and stationary nonlocality of two qubits collectively interacting with a common thermal environment. We assume two qubits are initially in Werner state or Werner-like state, and find that thermal environment can make two qubits become stationary nonlocality. The analytical relations among average thermal photon number of the environment, entanglement and nonlocality of two qubits are given in details. It is shown that the fraction of Bell singlet state plays a key role in the phenomenon that the common thermal reservoir can enhance the entanglement of two qubits. Moreover, we find that the collective decay of two qubits in a thermal reservoir at zero-temperature can generate a stationary maximally entangled mixed state if only the fraction of Bell singlet state in the initial state is not smaller than 2/3. It provides us a feasible way to prepare the maximally entangled mixed state in various physical systems such as the trapped ions, quantum dots or Josephson Junctions. For the case in which two qutrits collectively coupled with the thermal reservoir at zero-temperature, we find that the collective decay can induce the entanglement of two qutrits initially in the maximally mixed state. The collective decay of two qutrits can also induce distillable entanglement from the initial conjectured negative partial transpose bound entangled states.
