Abstract:The efficient control of neural wrist-hand prostheses with two degrees of freedom (DOF) has been expected by amputees for decades. Unlike the intrusive methods which can control the independent movements of the wrist and hand by detecting independent muscle groups in the deep layer, the non-invasive technology is hampered by the crosstalk problem between the surface electromyography (sEMG) signal sources. In this paper, a new myoelectric control method combined with Teager-Kaiser energy (TKE) and independent component analysis (ICA) algorithm is proposed to overcome the cross-talk problems. Based on the proposed method, the control for independent DOF of wrist-hand prosthesis can then be realized. The signal preprocessing integrated with TKE operator effectively eliminates the original noise of sEMG signals, enabling the signal to reflect the physical characteristics of muscle contraction more reasonably. The FastICA algorithm is subsequently applied to extract independent control signals, effectively overcoming the crosstalk problem as well as enhancing the independence of sEMG. The correlation analysis and normalization technique are then used to solve the problem of uncertainty in the amplitude and order that exists in ICA.Compared with the traditional methods, the proposed control method is more intuitive with shorter delay and higher accuracy, which is more acceptable for amputated patients.
