Abstract:This article examines the effect of international diversification on innovation performance. The empirical studies up to now have not found consistent support for the innovation performance from international diversification. We propose there is an inverted S-shaped relationship between international diversification and innovation performance. Innovation performance gets small increase as the firm go abroad to a few similar countries, decreases as the firm entering into some differentiated countries, and finally increase as firms going further into more countries. Data on 73 firms between 2002 and 2012 is collected to do empirical study. The findings of the research provide evidence of the prediction.
Effect of Diversification on Financial Performance of Commercial Banks in Kenya

Abstract:Diversification plays a vital role in risk management and consequently financial performance of commercial banks. Diversification mitigates systemic risk facing a commercial bank and thus reduces the probability of bank failure. In Kenya, commercial banks have been diversifying their business by increasingly offering new services such as mobile banking, agency banking, bank-assurance, faceless banking and integrating microfinance in their banking system. Diversification by the commercial banks is premised on the need to enhance financial performance. This has mainly emanated from banking industry having undergone numerous regulations regimes which over the years have affected financial performance of these entities. Empirical literature shows that diversification may not always lead to higher financial performance due to increased overheads and exhausted economies of scale. The study sought to determine the effect of diversification on financial performance of commercial banks in Kenya. The specific objectives of the study were to determine the effect of income diversification on financial performance of commercial banks in Kenya, to examine the effect of geographical diversification on financial performance of commercial banks in Kenya and to examine the effect of product diversification on financial performance of commercial banks in Kenya. Secondary data used by the study was collected for five years period (2013-2017 on annual basis). All the commercial banks were studied. Data was analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics and presented in tables and figures. The study found that Income Source Diversification and Geographical Diversification had a positive effect on the financial performance of the commercial banks while the Product Diversification had a negative impact the financial performance the commercial banks. The findings from the OLS regression analysis revealed that the diversification components studied namely product diversification, geographical diversification and income diversification explain up to 13.3% of the variations in return on assets (R2=0.133) and 18.7% of the variations in return on equity (R2=0.187). The study concluded that financial performance of the commercial banks in Kenya can be accounted for by the diversification strategies that have been implemented. It was further concluded that increased formulation and implementation of additional diversification strategies resulted in significant improvement in the financial performance of the commercial banks. The study recommended that managers at the commercial banks to make formulation and implementation of diversifications as a key organizational priority. Before the adoption of any particular diversification, the management of the commercial banks are econcouraged to first determine the suitability of that particular diversification strategies based on the organization structure, culture and policies and the overall intended outcomes. The study recommends that the government and other regulatory bodies to create favourable policies on the implementation of diversifications in commercial banks. This will ensure that there is effectiveness, efficiency as well as consistency in the use and adoption of diversifications by not only the banks but also other organizations in different sectors.

Abstract:Diversification is a strategic choice of enterprise expansion.Seen from long-term enterprise practice and theoretical study,the effect of diversification strategy on firm performance is complex.So how to implement diversification strategy effectively? This article bases on the perspective of matching dynamic capabilities and diversification strategy,studies the effect of diversification strategy on firm performance.It uses the annual data of 191 random samples chosen from Shanghai stock exchange in 2008-2009 as the sample data,using SPSS to do statistic analysis,reaching a conclusion that diversification strategy has a significantly negative influence on firm performance;while dynamic capabilities have a negative moderating effect on the relationship between diversification strategy and firm performance.It is moderation matching relation between dynamic capabilities and diversification strategy,through the interaction with the dynamic capabilities,diversification strategy influences the firm performance.This conclusion enriches the diversification strategy theory,dynamic capabilities theory and strategic matching theory,at the same time,supplying theoretical guidance for operating diversification strategy effectively.

Abstract:Based on Schumpeter's theory of economic growth regarding innovation that causes the economy to develop, this study examines the effect of business diversification on financial performance mediated by business risk. The sample used is manufacturing companies that carry out business diversification strategies during the 2014-2018 period on the IDX, amounting to 33 companies, with purposing sampling technique. The method of analysis in this study is experimental, which uses Size and Laverage as control variables. Data analysis in this study uses Path Analysis to see the direct or indirect effect of business diversification on financial performance mediated by business risk. The results of the analysis prove that business diversification has a positive and significant effect on financial performance, and business diversification has a positive and significant effect on business risk. However, business risk is unable to mediate the effect of business diversification on financial performance.
Relationship between International Diversification and Firm Performance: Empirical Evidence from Chinese Listed Corporation

Abstract:Based on a sample of Chinese listed corporation,empirical results show that the relationship between international diversification and firm performance is statistically significantly positive,and the statistical significance of their relationship depends on the corporate size.Analysis on the shape between firm performance and degree of international diversification indicates the relationship between firm performance and the degree of international diversification is linear,and firm performance rises as the degree of international diversification increases,statistically significant for ROA.The interaction effect from both international and industrial diversification strategies on performance is not validated,and this suggests that industrial diversification is not a moderator of the international diversification-performance relationship.This result depends on the proposition that international diversification is exogenous variable,but endogeneity test show that the proposition can not be rejected.

Abstract:In this study, we argue that foreign subsidiaries may benefit from the corporate strategies of multinational enterprises (MNEs) in different ways in terms of knowledge transfer and strategic flexibility. From this viewpoint, we explore the relationship between product diversification and financial performance of their subsidiaries under the condition of MNE geographic diversification. Using panel data on foreign subsidiaries in European countries from 2006 to 2011, we find a U-shaped relationship between product diversification and subsidiary performance and the joint effect of product and geographic diversification. Given the importance of transition economies in international business today, we conducted a subsample test contrasting the results based on the transitional (Central and Eastern European) versus Western European countries. The contrasting results provide important implications for other transition economies like China. We validate the relationship in several ways in our robustness tests.

How effectuation, causation and bricolage influence the international performance of firms via internationalisation strategy: a literature review

Abstract:Purpose This study aims to investigate the antecedents of the internationalisation strategy i.e., effectuation, causation and bricolage on the international performance of the firm. Design/methodology/approach In total, the study uses 138 peer-reviewed articles on effectuation, causation, effectual/causal decision-making logics and related issues such as the impact of antecedent factors of international strategy (i.e. effectuation, causation and bricolage) on the international performance of the firm. Findings Even though the theory of effectuation was formulated in 2001, to a large extent it has still not moved away from the realm of small entrepreneurial firms. The development of effectuation logic has accelerated in recent years, but the bulk of the research still focusses on small entrepreneurial firms rather than on the application of the theory in larger, non-entrepreneurial firms. Furthermore, effectuation theory would benefit from being developed into the realm of psychology and sociology. Originality/value This study offers a conceptual model on how effectuation, causation and bricolage influence internationalisation strategy, which, in turn, impacts the international performance of the firm. Furthermore, the study discusses the effectual logic for larger firms. The exponential growth of studies on effectuation during recent years, i.e. 2017 to the first quarter of 2020, shows that researchers have responded to calls by leading authors stating that effectuation theory is a field with great potential for further theoretical developments. This study presents a literature review of the critical issue of the engagement of internationalisation strategies with effectuation, causation, bricolage and the international performance of the firm compared to the earlier literature review for the period 2001–2016 by Matalamäki (2017) and Karami et al. (2019) on effectuation and internationalisation.

Abstract:This study discusses the effect of the diversification strategy to company performance. Research is still reaping the results of different studies. This study aimed to investigate the effect of diversification strategy by using a measurement indicator harfindahl index and on the company's performance as reflected by the value of Tobin's q. This research has been completed on the company's property and real estate sectors listed in Indonesia Stock Exchange and using the financial statements of each company as research data. Of the 52 companies listed only 10 companies that became the object of research with the observation period from the year 2013 to 2015. The data collected were processed using simple linear regression analysis to determine the effect of diversification strategy to company performance. The results and conclusions from this research that the diversification strategy and significant positive effect on company performance. Partially index harfindahl positive effect on Tobin's Q. The more diversified a company then can profit at the higher as gains in can not only focus on the segments of particular and it will cover the losses of other business segments so that the risk will drop. Suggestions in this study are the company must make the distribution of market power at a moderate level in the company to optimize the company's performance.

Abstract:The engineering management literature has long acknowledged that innovation is the most significant differentiation strategy for firms to achieve competitiveness and hence firm performance. More recently, corporate social responsibility (CSR) is recognized as another differentiation strategy which also contributes to firm performance. However, the joint performance effects of innovation and CSR have not been sufficiently investigated, particularly on the interplay between different types of innovation and CSR. This study classifies innovation into solitary and collaborative innovation as well as incremental and radical innovation to examine their differential effects. Employing a panel dataset of 2377 Chinese manufacturing firms during the period of 2010–2019, we discover that there exists an inverted U-shaped CSR–performance relationship. More importantly, we reveal that collaborative innovation has a stronger attenuating effect on the inverted U-shaped performance effect of CSR than solitary innovation. Similarly, radical innovation has a stronger attenuating effect than incremental innovation. Our research advances the innovation and CSR literature by providing novel insights regarding how different types of innovation alter the curvilinear performance effect of CSR in an emerging economy.

Abstract:Diversification is a strategic choice for enterprise expansion. Looking at the world, American companies in the 1960s and 1970s opened up a diversified path through large-scale mergers and acquisitions. However, by the 1980s and 1990s, American companies began to change from diversification to specialization, gradually returning to their main business, and the adjustment of this phenomenon made the performance of those companies significantly improved. Since then, how should companies abandon the choice of specialization and diversification strategy, and whether diversification is beneficial or u nfavorable to corporate performance ha ve become topic s that domestic and foreign scholars are eager to study. Based on the concept, motivation and type of diversification strategy, this paper sorts out the relationship between corporate diversification strategy and corporate performance in domestic and foreign literatures. It is found that there is still no definitive answer to whether diversification strategy is beneficial to corporate performance. There are four different relationships : positive correlation, negative correlation and no significant correlation, and nonlinear correlation. The core competence of an enterprise is the fundamental support of diversified business operations and a deep-seated factor in the formulation and implementation of diversified business strategies. Research on the core competence of enterprises as a regulation or mediator of the relationship between diversification strategy and firm performance is still not perfect, and research in this field needs to be further explored.

Abstract:The rapid pace of competition in today’s global business environment had prompted the need for the Food and Beverage (F&B) firms around the world to produce strategies on how best to improve performance through the provision of product varieties and the need for expansion through an increase in market share, productivity, and full utilization of resources at their disposal. Despite this awareness, a persistent decline was observed in the organizational in terms of profitability and their performance outlook remained poor. The study, therefore, examined the effects of diversification strategy on the profitability of selected F&B firms in Lagos State, Nigeria. Therefore, this study examined the effect of diversification strategy and profitability of selected food and beverage firms in Lagos State, Nigeria. The study adopted a survey design, the population is given as 12, 495 regular employees of six selected F&B firms in Lagos State, Nigeria. The research advisor sampling table was used to select a sample size of 491 from the population while data was collected using a valid and reliable questionnaire with a Cronbach alpha value greater than 0.7. The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential tools. Multiple Regression Analysis was used to determine the impact of the variables using the Statistical Package for Science Solutions (SPSS) version 24. Diversification has a significant effect on profitability (β = 0.947, t = 47.805, R2 = 0.839, p-value = 0.001). The study concludes that diversification has a significant effect on profitability of selected Food and Beverage (F&B) firms in Lagos State, Nigeria. Thus, the study recommends that Food and Beverage firms can also explore new distribution channels, invest in marketing and branding, and enhance their operational efficiency to achieve better profitability. It's also essential for them to keep track of the latest market trends and consumer preferences to develop products and services that meet the evolving needs of their customers. Research On The Effect Of External Technology Acquisition And Financial Resources On Product Diversification Of Listed Companies

Abstract:The article conducts an empirical study on the effect of external technology acquisition and financial resources on product diversification. Firstly, we make a literature review and propose hypothesis later. Then we choose 142 listed companies coming from the high-tech industry as samples to make an empirical test. The results show that external technology acquisition has a positive impact on product diversification significantly; Financial resources have no significant negative effect on product diversification; Financial resources moderate the relationship between external technology acquisition and product diversification positively. The study enriches and expends the findings in the fields of external technology acquisition and product diversification. The conclusion could guide the firms to make a better use of external technology. The companies could enrich technical knowledge through acquiring external technology to improve product diversification. And through increasing financial resources, the companies could enhance the positive effect of external technology acquisition on product diversification.

Abstract:The purpose of this article is to conduct a systematic review concerning economic diversification and its implications for the sustainable development dimensions: economic, environmental, and social. This article analyses both qualitative and quantitative data related to key variables, methods, groups of nations and seeks identifying trends and research gaps within the literature. This article employs two distinct methodological approaches: bibliometrics and systematic literature review. We followed the PRISMA method, and six steps used in the literature to guide the research process. In this sense, we conducted our research using the Web of Science database spanning the period between 1994 and 2023.The main findings confirm that economic diversification acts as a driver for economic growth especially for the developing countries. Regarding to environmental issues, the literature is ambiguous. In general, the economic diversification worsens the environmental indicators for developing countries and improve for developed ones. However, there are exceptions based on energy matrix and sector of diversification. Lastly, regarding social indicators, it seems there is there is a consensus in the literature regarding the positive impact between the economic diversification and human capital. The political implications reside on encouraging diversification in sectors that promote economic growth and reduce the environmental impacts, especially in developing countries. Policymakers should also prioritize investments in education, given its positive relation with increased diversity. The innovations of this article endeavor four dimensions: (i) the systematization of existing literature; (ii) furnishing an overview of the main econometric models, variables, and countries scrutinized within literature; (iii) discerning research gaps for future investigations; and (iv) elucidating political implications derived from the analysis of the articles.
