Abstract:Water, the most fundamental source of life, is contaminated by various organic pollutants, especially organic dyes from the dying industry. The photocatalytic degradation of malachite green (MG) was studied using a zinc-based metal-organic framework (Zn-BTC MOF) and ZnO. Thermally decomposing Zn-MOF synthesized ZnO and its structural and optical properties were analyzed using various spectroscopic techniques. This article focuses primarily on the wavelength-dependent photoluminescence properties of Zn-MOF and ZnO materials and their role in the photocatalytic degradation of MG dye in water. Zn-MOF and ZnO photocatalysts exhibited a photodegradation efficiency of approximately 99% after 40 min of visible light exposure. Based on kinetic experiments, the degrading efficiency of these catalysts followed pseudo-first-order reaction kinetics with a correlation of R 2 = 0.99 and a rate constant of 0.031 min −1 . This manuscript is helpful to researchers working on ZnO and Zn-MOF materials for photocatalytic and environmental applications.

Abstract:Zinc Oxide (ZnO) has been deemed as an excellent material for photocatalytic processes due to its high photosensitivity, suitable bandgap and low cost. This paper aims to optimize the synthesis process of ZnO nanoparticles via co-precipitation for the enhanced photodegradation of Methyl Orange (MO) textile. Two sets of experiments were conducted; each with different metal hydroxides (NaOH and KOH) used for the synthesis process. For each set, three factors were investigated: temperature, mixing time, and molar ratio of zinc salt to hydroxide salt. Response surface methodology (RSM) using centered central composite design (CCD) was employed to model and optimize the synthesis process with respect to the aforementioned factors. The success of the nanoparticles synthesis was confirmed by X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). A hexagonal wurtzite crystal structure of as-synthesized ZnO NPs was observed with crystalline size of 24.2 nm. For 20-min UV illumination time, the optimization results revealed maximum degradation efficiency of 32.48% and 32.44% using NaOH and KOH, respectively. The optimum operating conditions for NaOH-based experiments were: temperature of 70 °C, 2.5 h of mixing time, and molar ratio of 1:8.5; while those for the KOH-based experiments were temperature of 60 °C, 1.5 h of mixing time, and molar ratio of 1:6. At optimum condition, these nanoparticles successfully achieved 94.82% degradation in 120 min. The reaction kinetics well fitted pseudo first-order model with a rate constant of 0.0227 min−1 and correlation value R2 of 0.9031.

Abstract:In this work nanocomposite heterojunction of SnO 2 :Zn conjugated with g-C 3 N 4 was successfully synthesized by a green synthesis method using Murraya paniculata leaves extract. Materials were characterized by XPS, FTIR, XRD, BET, HRTEM, FESEM, EDAX, and UV–visible spectrophotometer. XRD and HRTEM results revealed the formation of highly crystalline and small sized particles having mean grain size of 4.4 and 4.9 nm for SnO 2 :Zn and SnO 2 :Zn@g-C 3 N 4 , respectively and interplanar spacing of 0.333 nm. The 2-D sheeted structure of g-C 3 N 4 acts as a translucent layer that captures and provide a considerable extent of self-agglomeration on the underlying sphere shaped SnO 2 :Zn NPs which results in excellent charge flow which eventually results in enhanced photocatalytic degradation performance of the synthesized heterojunction. The XPS analysis verifies the presence of Sn, Zn, O, C, and N in the synthesized heterojunction SnO 2 :Zn@g-C 3 N 4 . The UV–Visible and photoluminescence spectra helped to demonstrate the effective inhibition of excitons annihilation within the heterojunction nanocomposite. The heterojunction shows an excellent photodegradation efficiency of 93.84 % in the process of photodegradation of dye Malachite green (MG). Effect of pH, catalyst dose on photodegradation and the recyclability were also investigated. The kinetic plots were used to calculate the rate constant which shows the nature of a pseudo first order reaction with a rate constant of 0.299 min −1 . Trap experiments were conducted to confirm the role of h + and O 2 − as active species.

Abstract:At present, there is a vital need for river water purification by developing new approaches to eliminate bacterial biofilms, textile dyes, and Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE) plastics that pose severe threats to human and environmental health. The current work put forward the construction of an eco-friendly green strategy to synthesize zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) using areca nut (Areca catechu) extract and their application to tackle the challenges in water purification. Prepared biogenic NPs were characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FT-IR), Energy Diffraction Spectroscopy (EDS), Scanning Electronic Microscopy (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) analysis, confirmed the spherical shape in 20 nm and UV–vis spectroscopy. The characteristic absorption band exhibited at 326 nm confirmed the formation of ZnO NPs using UV–vis spectroscopy. Among all the tested bacterial pathogens, the E. coli at 50 µg/mL concentration showed the highest inhibition of biofilm activity, followed by the highest growth curve, cellular leakage, and potassium ion efflux. The ZnO NPs observed with photo-degradation of Rhodamine-B (Rh-B), Methylene Blue (MB), and Nigrosine dyes under sunlight irradiation at different time intervals. Finally, the photocatalytic activity of LDPE-ZnO NPs nanocomposite film showed the highest degradation under solar light irradiation were confirmed through photo-induced weight loss, SEM, FTIR, and MALDI-TOF analysis. This study demonstrates ZnO NPs exhibit efficacy against biofilm formation, degradation of photocatalytic textile dyes, and low-density LDPE film under solar light irradiation, which can be a step forward in water purification.

Abstract:Hereby, in this paper, we have reported synthesis of uniform spherical-shaped nanoparticles of zinc oxide via green method, as well as their photocatalytic activity. The nanoparticles of zinc oxide were synthesized utilizing flower extract of Rhododendron arboreum where it performs the function of reducing as well as capping agent. The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized by numerous spectroscopic techniques such as UV–Vis and FT-IR. Scanning electron microscope analysis of product revealed spherical zinc oxide nanoparticles. Energy-dispersive spectral analysis indicated elemental composition, i.e., oxygen and zinc. The green synthesized zinc oxide nanoparticles have been employed as nanocatalyst for photocatalytic degradation of two cationic dyes, i.e., Fuchsin basic and Malachite green dye. In addition, various physicochemical parameters such as effect of the dye concentration, catalyst dosage and pH have also been optimized indicating better performance of these nanoparticles. Zinc oxide nanoparticles showed 99.18% degradation of Malachite green dye and 99.272% degradation of Fuchsin basic dye. These nanoparticles have great potential candidate as developing catalyst for selective degradation of cationic dyes.

Abstract:ZnO@ZnS core–shell heterostructures exhibit enhanced photocatalytic activity, effectively degrading malachite green and rhodamine B dyes under visible light irradiation. This study highlights the potential of these nanocomposites in environmental remediation applications. The one‐step green synthesis of wide band gap zinc oxide@zinc sulfide (ZnO@ZnS) core–shell nanostructures offers promising prospects in wastewater treatment. These nanostructures exhibit a porous nature crucial for effective dye adsorption, as evidenced by Brunauer‐Emmett‐Teller (BET) and microscopic characterization. The synthesized material demonstrates high stability and minimal agglomeration, verified through BET analysis and zeta potential measurements. X‐ray powder diffraction confirms the presence of ZnO and ZnS phases. Transmission electron microscopy reveals the development of porous nanorods on the core surface, maximizing the surface area for dye adsorption. In wastewater treatment, the nanostructures exhibit notable performance, degrading 90% of malachite green and 50% of rhodamine B dyes within 120 min under normal conditions. Detailed discussions delve into the degradation mechanism, elucidating the major species responsible for the process. This study underscores the potential of ZnO@ZnS nanostructures in efficient organic pollutant removal, marking a significant advancement in environmental remediation.

Abstract:Green synthesis method for nanoparticle synthesis offers many advantages over physical and chemical methods as it does not involve any hazardous chemicals and also it is a one-pot, and economically cheap process. In this regard, the present research describes the green synthesis of Zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) using Punica granatum leaf extract. The various properties such as morphological, structural, and optical properties of green zinc oxide nanoparticles were characterized by Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, UV–Visible spectroscopy, Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM), Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy and X-Ray diffraction (XRD). The XRD pattern revealed the crystalline nature of ZnO-NPs and the average diameter of particles is 20 nm.TEM and FESEM analysis show the spherical shape of ZnO-NPs with size ranging from 10 to 30 nm. The synthesized ZnO-NPs shows the commendable potential towards the photocatalytic degradation of Coomassie brilliant blue R-250 dye under direct sunlight irradiations. Thus, this work provides a positive step in the area of a green photocatalyst to alleviate the noxious dyes from water.Graphical abstract

Abstract:Zinc oxide, ZnO, nanoparticles have been synthesized using a deep eutectic solvent (DES) consisting of choline chloride and D-Lactic acid. The presented method proved to be simple, efficient, cost-effective, and eco-friendly for the formation of ZnO nanoparticles with specific morphology and properties. A variety of techniques have been used to investigate the composition, size, shape, and crystallinity of the nanoparticles, including UV–Visible spectroscopy, FT-IR spectroscopy, XRD, FE-SEM, and EDX. The UV–Visible spectroscopy confirmed the synthesis of stable ZnO, with a band gap of 3.55 eV between 300 and 400 nm. The FT-IR spectroscopy revealed the presence of DES functional groups on ZnO nanoparticles. The average size of the ZnO nanoparticles was estimated to be 39 nm using XRD calculations, while the FE-SEM images showed that the particles are rod-like elongated and spherical in shape and have high surface activity causing their agglomeration. The synthesized ZnO nanoparticles were used as a catalyst to remove the organic dyes from the synthetic wastewater. Various factors were studied to achieve optimum conditions for the effective dye removal. The results showed that an adsorbent dose of 5 mg/50 mL removed 84 % and 99 % of Congo Red and Crystal Violet, respectively, within 70 min. The kinetic models used revealed that the adsorption followed the pseudo-first-order kinetics. Langmuir, Freundlich, and Temkin isotherms were used to explain the adsorption mechanism. Finally, the thermodynamic parameters for the removal of both dyes using ZnO nanoparticles demonstrated that adsorption was spontaneous.

Abstract:This research was carried out based on the significance of protecting the environment by preventing the contamination of water caused from effluents discharge from dyeing industries, effective nanocomposite were prepared to solve this problem. The poly(azomethine), ZnO, and poly(azomethine)/ZnO nanocomposites were prepared and characterized by Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy, ultraviolet (UV)–visible spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDAX), scanning electron Microscope (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) techniques. Methylene blue (MB), Malachite green (MG), and Bismarck brown (BB) were degraded from water using poly(azomethine) (PAZ), zinc oxide (ZnO), PAZ/ZnO (PNZ) nanocomposites as photocatalyst in the presence of natural sunlight. The degradation efficiency and reaction kinetics were calculated, and the outcome of the photocatalytic experiments proved that the PAZ/ZnO nanocomposites reveals excellent photocatalytic activity and effective for decolorization of dye containing waste water than PAZ and ZnO in the presence of natural sunlight. The maximum degradation efficiency 97%, 96%, and 95% was obtained for PNZ nanocomposites at optimum dosage of catalyst as 500 mg and 50 ppm of MB, MG, and BB dye concentration, respectively. The maximum degradation time was 5 h. After photocatalytic study, the samples were characterized by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and UV–visible spectroscopy.

Abstract:The biosynthesis of oxide semiconductor nanoparticles (NPs) using materials found in nature opens a wide field of study focused on sustainability and environmental protection. Biosynthesized NPs have the capacity to eliminate organic dyes, which pollute water and cause severe damage to the environment. In the present work, the green synthesis of zinc oxide (ZnO) NPs was carried out using Capsicum annuum var. Anaheim extract. The photocatalytic elimination of methylene blue (MB), methyl orange (MO), and Rhodamine B (RhB) in UV radiation was evaluated. The materials were characterized by scanning and transmission electron microscopy (SEM and TEM) and SEM-coupled energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), attenuated total reflectance-infrared (ATR-IR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Photoluminescence (PL), and ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis). The TEM analysis showed the NPs have an average size of 40 nm and quasi-spherical shape. ATR-IR showed the ZnO NPs contained functional groups from the extract. The analysis through XRD indicated that the NPs have a hexagonal zincite crystal structure with an average crystallite size of approximately 17 nm. The photoluminescence spectrum (PL) presented an emission band at 402 nm. From the UV-Vis spectra and TAUC model, the band-gap value was found to be 2.93 eV. Finally, the photocatalytic assessment proved the ZnO NPs achieved 100% elimination of MB at 60 min exposure, and 85 and 92% degradation of MO and RhB, respectively, at 180 min. This indicates that ZnO NPs, in addition to using a friendly method for their synthesis, manage to have excellent photocatalytic activity in the degradation of various organic pollutants.

Abstract:This study addresses the pressing issue of environmental pollution caused by antibiotics and synthetic dyes in aquatic ecosystems, presenting a novel approach for their efficient photocatalytic degradation. Zinc oxide (ZnO)-based nanoscale photocatalysts, including ZnO nanoparticles (NPs) and ZnO/Ag nanocomposite heterostructure (NCH), were synthesized through an innovative and eco-friendly method utilizing an extract derived from discarded lemon peels as a biogenic reducing agent. The synthesized materials were extensively characterized through UV spectrophotometry, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The results confirmed the different morphologies of ZnO NPs and ZnO/Ag NCH, with average sizes of 20 nm and 42 nm, respectively. Notably, the ZnO NPs and ZnO/Ag NCH exhibited optical bandgap energies of 3.2 eV and 2.85 eV, respectively, signifying their potential as efficient photocatalysts. Under natural sunlight irradiation, these materials demonstrated exceptional photocatalytic activity, achieving a remarkable 98.8 % degradation rate for metronidazole and 90 % for ciprofloxacin in just 12 min. Furthermore, the ZnO NPs effectively removed 84 % of Toluidine Blue and 77 % of Congo red after 120 min, while ZnO/Ag NCH enhanced degradation rates to approximately 90.5 % for Toluidine Blue and 86 % for Congo Red. This research highlights the significant physicochemical properties and novel synthesis methods employed, positioning these sustainable nanomaterials as promising solutions for mitigating environmental pollution effectively.

Abstract:Through this research, zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) were successfully synthesized via easy route "green process" using plant extract of Albizia procera . The purpose of this research is to investigate the degradation of methylene blue (MB) dye via advanced oxidation process (AOP) in the presence of Hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) and the ZnO photocatalyst under visible light irradiation. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) results confirmed that the ZnO NPs had a hexagonal wurtzite structure. The average crystalline size of around 20 nm was observed by the Debye–Scherrer formula. The dynamic light scattering (DLS) showed a range of sizes 23 nm. This study aims to analyze the influence of operating parameters and their interactive effect on the overall removal efficiency of the targeted component by response surface methodology (RSM). The Box–Behnken design (BBD) in RSM was used to optimize several process variables. In order to optimize the responses of MB elimination rate, parameters such as pH (A: 3–11), molar ratio [H 2 O 2 ]/[ZnO] (B:1–3), concentration dye (C: 10–30 mg L −1 ), and contact time (D:30–70 min) were used as independent factors. The values obtained from the experiment and model predictions were discovered to be in adequate approval, and the model equation's performance confirmed the experimental observation with only a small divergence. These results confirmed the efficient environmental remediation of heterogeneous photocatalytic process thanks to ZnO NPs.

Abstract:Community drinking water sources are increasingly contaminated by various point and non-point sources, with emerging organic contaminants and microbial strains posing health risks and disrupting ecosystems. This study explores the use of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) as a non-specific agent to address groundwater contamination and combat microbial resistance effectively. The ZnO-NPs were synthesized via a green chemistry approach, employing a sol-gel method with lemon peel aqueous extract. The catalyst was characterized using techniques including XRD, ATR-FTIR, SEM-EDAX, UV-DRS, BET, and Raman spectroscopy. ZnO-NPs were then tested for photodegradation of quinoline yellow dye (QY) under sunlight irradiation, as well as for their antibacterial and antioxidant properties. The ZnO-NP photocatalyst showed significant photoactivity, attributed to effective separation of photogenerated charge carriers. The efficiency of sunlight dye photodegradation was influenced by catalyst dosage (0.1–0.6 mg L−1), pH (3–11), and initial QY concentration (10–50 mg L−1). The study developed a first-order kinetic model for ZnO-NPs using the Langmuir–Hinshelwood equation, yielding kinetic constants of equilibrium adsorption and photodegradation of Kc = 6.632 × 10−2 L mg−1 and kH = 7.104 × 10−2 mg L−1 min−1, respectively. The results showed that ZnO-NPs were effective against Gram-positive bacterial strains and showed moderate antioxidant activity, suggesting their potential in wastewater disinfection to achieve sustainable development goals. A potential antibacterial mechanism of ZnO-NPs involving interactions with microbial cells is proposed. Additionally, Gaussian Process Regression (GPR) combined with an improved Lévy flight distribution (FDB-LFD) algorithm was used to model QY photodegradation by ZnO-NPs. The ARD-Exponential kernel function provided high accuracy, validated through residue analysis. Finally, an innovative MATLAB-based application was developed to integrate the GPR_FDB-LFD model and FDB-LFD algorithm, streamlining optimization for precise photodegradation rate predictions. The results obtained in this study show that the GPR and FDB-LFD approaches offer efficient and cost-effective methods for predicting dye photodegradation, saving both time and resources.

Photodegradation of toxic malachite green dye by ZnO and ZnO/SiO2 nanocomposites under solar radiation: a green practice

Abstract:ZnO/SiO 2 nanocomposites (NCs) were synthesized and assessed for their ability to degrade the carcinogenic compound malachite green (MG) under collected sunlight, employing a parabolic solar collector for enhanced energy collection. The ZnO/SiO 2 NCs and ZnO nanoparticles (NPs) underwent characterization through X-ray diffraction (XRD), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), and UV-Visible spectroscopy. The XRD analysis confirmed the hexagonal wurtzite structure of ZnO NPs, with particle diameters ranging from 14 to 18 nm, while the nanocomposites exhibited sizes in the range of 14–19 nm. TEM images yielded an average particle size of 17 nm for ZnO NPs and 21 nm for NCs. The band gap energy of the NCs was measured at 3.30 eV, indicating a slight red shift compared to bulk ZnO (3.37 eV).Furthermore, BET surface area measurements unveiled a microporous structure in the nanocomposites, accompanied by an increased surface area. Kinetic studies revealed a pseudo-first-order reaction kinetics, demonstrating faster photodecomposition for the nanocomposites at an optimal catalyst concentration of 0.5 g per 100 ml under neutral pH conditions. Remarkably, the maximum photodegradation efficiency re ached an impressive 98.8% for ZnO/SiO 2 NCs and 96.8% for ZnO NPs within a mere 40 minute exposure to collected sunlight. The utilization of a solar collector contributed to a significant 40% enhancement in photodegradation efficiency compared to natural sunlight. This study underscores the substantial improvement in the photodegradation efficiency of ZnO/SiO 2 nanocomposites, highlighting their potential as heterogeneous photocatalysts that harness solar energy as a renewable and cost-effective resource.

Abstract:Background Green synthesis for nanomaterials, an eco-friendly and sustainable technology, has gained prominence in recent decades, especially in dye removal. The widespread use of toxic organic dyes in various industries has become a significant concern for human health, mainly when these dyes contaminate wastewater. This current study focuses on the prevalent use of hazardous dyes, known for their ecotoxicity, and the challenge of effectively removing these pollutants from wastewater. Aim The primary goal is to achieve a bio-inspired synthesis of zinc oxide nanoparticles using polysaccharides as mediators. This synthesis is designed to enhance the antimicrobial attributes of the nanoparticles and facilitate the photocatalytic degradation of organic dyes. Notably, polysaccharides serve a dual purpose as both a reducing and stabilizing agent for synthesizing ZnO nanoparticles. Significant findings The XRD distinctive lattice pattern peaks, such as (1 0 0), (0 0 2), and (1 0 1), affirmed the pure formation of the ZnO structure with a hexagonal wurtzite crystal structure. The chemical composition and product purity of green-produced SB-ZnO NPs were assessed through SEM and XPS analysis. The study then utilized polymer-mediated green-synthesized ZnO NPs for the photocatalytic degradation of Congo red and crystal violet under visible light irradiation. The results demonstrated remarkable photocatalytic activity, with around 88.2% of Congo red dye degradation observed within 80 min of visible light exposure. Notably, Congo red exhibited higher catalytic efficiency compared to crystal violet dye. The antimicrobial activity of SB-ZnO NPs obtained through green synthesis was also investigated. The antimicrobial study revealed the formation of zones against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacterial pathogens. These bioassay metal oxides are recognized for their potential in environmental remediation due to their low cost, stability, efficiency, and minimal environmental impact. The enhanced photocatalytic efficiency of polymer-metal nanocomposites shows significant potential in propelling the utilization of photocatalysts for environmental applications, specifically in wastewater treatment and bactericidal processes.

Abstract:In recent times, the synthesis of metal nanoparticles (NPs) using plant extracts has recently emerged as an intriguing issue in the field of nanoscience and nanobiotechnology, with numerous advantages over conventional physicochemical approaches. In the current study, ZnO NPs were synthesized from Synadium grantii leaf extricate with varying Cu-dopant concentrations. In order to the synthesis of the pure and Cu-doped ZnO NPs, zinc nitrate hexahydrate and copper nitrate trihydrate were used as a precursor in leaf extracts of the plant. XRD, TEM, FTIR, XPS, and PL measurements were carried out to examine the physical and optical properties of the synthesized samples. The photocatalytic studies of the prepared samples were studied using Methylene blue (MB), Indigo Carmine (IC), and Rhodamine B (RhB) organic pollutants. The wurtzite crystal structure of synthesized samples was confirmed by XRD and TEM analysis. Further, the presence of functional groups in the prepared samples was confirmed by FTIR analysis. XPS analysis confirmed that the binding energies of a host material and dopant ions. The emission peaks identified at 424, 446 and 573 nm are associated with the electron movement from the deep donor level, zinc interstitial to the zinc vacancy and oxygen vacancy. 3% and 5% Cu-doped samples exhibited superior photocatalytic activity for MB, IC, and RhB dyes. The green synthesized ZnO NPs showed enriched photocatalytic performance, signifying that bio-synthesis can be an outstanding approach to develop versatile and environmental products.

Abstract:The microwave-assisted technique proved highly successful in harnessing the Bael (A. marmelos) tree's natural properties to synthesize Ag-ZnO nanoparticles in an environmentally friendly manner. Through analysis of the various vibration modes evident in the Fourier transform infrared spectra, it became evident that functional groups are present on the nanoparticle surface, showcasing the intricate chemical composition achieved through this innovative synthesis approach. The nanoparticles dimensions, morphology, and surface features were investigated through advanced techniques such as high-resolution transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Analysis revealed that the synthesized Ag-ZnO nanoparticles typically ranged between 15 to 20 nm in size. When subjected to ultraviolet radiation, the silver-doped zinc oxide nanoparticles demonstrated remarkable photocatalytic prowess, effectively decomposing the dye known as methylene blue. The produced Ag-doped ZnO NPs are very good at reducing dye to 88% in about one hour. Characterization, as well as encouraging photocatalytic and antioxidant qualities, indicate the potential use of these synthesized Ag-doped ZnO NPs for environmental as well as vital uses.

Abstract:Abstract A facile green route has been employed for the synthesis of ZnO and Ag-doped ZnO using Cannabis sativa as a reducing and stabilizing agent. The as-synthesized nanoparticles were characterized and tested for photocatalytic dye degradation and antimicrobial activity. The results suggested that nanoparticles have shown antimicrobial activity against different human pathogenic bacteria ( Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumonia , MRSA, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella typhi , Staphylococcus aureus ) and fungal strains ( Fusarium spp. and Rosellinia necatrix) . Ag-doped nanoparticles comparatively have shown better removal Congo red and methyl orange under visible light. Therefore, green synthesized nanoparticles could have beneficial applications in environmental science and biological field.

Abstract:Abstract The current study is focused on fabrication of a ternary metal oxide nanocomposite (ZnO/CuO/Ag2O) as an efficient and superior photocatalyst by step-wise implanting of p-type CuO and Ag2O semiconductors onto an n-type semiconductor (ZnO) via a chemical method. The structural and textural characteristics of the manufactured samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy combined with electron dispersive spectroscopy (FESEM-EDS) and UV–visible spectroscopy. The photocatalytic performance of the fabricated ternary nanocomposite was tested against the photocatalytic degradation of crystal violet (CV) and rhodamine B (RhB) organic dyes under solar light irradiation. The ternary nanocomposite demonstrated about 99.05% and 97.38% degradation efficiency toward CV and RhB dyes under solar light irradiation in a time period of 105 min. The calculated rate constants (k, min−1) for degradation under solar light over the ZnO/CuO/Ag2O nanocomposite were 4.26 and 3.61 times higher than the k value obtained over ZnO nanoparticles for CV and RhB dyes, respectively. The main reactive species taking part in the photodegradation processes were •OH and •O2− over ZnO/CuO/Ag2O photocatalysts under solar light illumination. Furthermore, the recycle experiments confirmed good reusability and photo-stability of the ZnO/CuO/Ag2O ternary nanocomposite.

Abstract:Efficient and excellent nanoparticles are required for the degradation of organic dyes in photocatalysis. In this study, silver–manganese oxide nanoparticles (Ag-Mn-NPs) were synthesized through a wet chemical precipitation method and characterized as an advanced catalyst that has enhanced photocatalytic activity under sunlight irradiation. The nanoparticles were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), XRD, UV–vis light spectra, and energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectroscopy, revealing their spherical and agglomerated form. The EDX spectra confirmed the composition of the nanoparticles, indicating their presence in oxide form. These bimetallic oxide nanoparticles were employed as photocatalysts for the degradation of malachite green (MG) dye under sunlight irradiation in an aqueous medium. The study investigated the effects of various parameters, such as irradiation time, catalyst dosage, recovered catalyst dosage, dye concentration, and pH, on the dye's photodegradation. The results showed that Ag-Mn oxide nanoparticles exhibited high photocatalytic activity, degrading 92% of the dye in 100 min. A longer irradiation time led to increased dye degradation. Moreover, a higher catalyst dosage resulted in a higher dye degradation percentage, with 91% degradation achieved using 0.0017 g of the photocatalyst in 60 min. Increasing the pH of the medium also enhanced the dye degradation, with 99% degradation achieved at pH 10 in 60 min. However, the photodegradation rate decreased with increasing dye concentration. The Ag-Mn oxide nanoparticles demonstrate excellent potential as a reliable visible-light-responsive photocatalyst for the efficient degradation of organic pollutants in wastewater treatment.
