Abstract:We study cyclic codes over the ring H of order 4 and characteristic 2 defined by generators and relations as H=⟨a,b∣2a=2b=0,a2=0,b2=b,ab=ba=0⟩. This is the first time that cyclic codes over a non-unitary ring are studied. Every cyclic code of length n over H is uniquely determined by the data of an ordered pair of binary cyclic codes of length n. We characterize self-dual, quasi-self-dual, and linear complementary dual cyclic codes H. We classify cyclic codes of length at most 7 up to equivalence. A Gray map between cyclic codes of length n over H and quasi-cyclic codes of length 2n over F2 is studied.

Abstract:There is a local ring E of order 4, without identity for the multiplication, defined by generators and relations as E=⟨a,b∣2a=2b=0,a2=a,b2=b,ab=a,ba=b⟩.$$E=\langle a,b \mid 2a=2b=0,\, a^2=a,\, b^2=b,\,ab=a,\, ba=b\rangle .$$ We study a special construction of self-orthogonal codes over E, based on combinatorial matrices related to two-class association schemes, Strongly Regular Graphs (SRG), and Doubly Regular Tournaments (DRT). We construct quasi self-dual codes over E, and Type IV codes, that is, quasi self-dual codes whose codewords all have even Hamming weight. All these codes can be represented as formally self-dual additive codes over F4.$$\mathbb {F}_4.$$ The classical invariant theory bound for the weight enumerators of this class of codes improves the known bound on the minimum distance of Type IV codes over E.

Abstract:The build-up method is a powerful class of propagation rules that generate self-dual codes over finite fields and unitary rings. Recently, it was extended to non-unitary rings of order 4, to generate quasi self-dual codes. In the present paper, we introduce three such propagation rules to generate self-orthogonal, self-dual and quasi self-dual codes over a special non-unitary ring of order 9. As an application, we classify the three categories of codes completely in length at most 3, and partially in lengths 4 and 5, up to monomial equivalence.

Abstract:In the present paper, we discuss the class of Type III and Type IV codes from the perspectives of neighbors. Our investigation analogously extends the results originally presented by Dougherty [8] concerning the neighbor graph of binary self-dual codes. Moreover, as an application of neighbors in invariant theory, we show that the ring of the weight enumerators of Type II code $d_{n}^{+}$ and its neighbors in arbitrary genus is finitely generated. Finally, we obtain a minimal set of generators of this ring up to the space of degree 24 and genus 3.

Abstract:This paper presents a study on the structure of 1-generator quasi-cyclic (QC) codes over the non-chain ring , where , and is a finite field of cardinality ; p is a prime. A minimal spanning set and size of these codes are determined. A sufficient condition for 1-generator QC codes over R to be free is given. BCH-type bounds on the minimum distance of free QC codes over R are also presented. Some optimal linear codes over are obtained as the Gray images of quasi-cyclic codes over R . Some characterizations of the Gray images of QC codes over R in and are done. As an application, we consider self-orthogonal subcodes of the Gray images of QC codes over R to obtain new and better quantum codes than those are available in the literature.

Abstract:Let $A$ be a finite dimensional associative $\mathbb{K}$-algebra over an algebraically closed field $\mathbb{K}$ of characteristic zero. To $A$, we can associate its basic form that is given by a quiver $Q = (Q_0, Q_1)$ with an admissible ideal $R$. For a dimension vector $\beta$, we consider an irreducible component $\mathcal{C}$ of the module variety of $\beta$-dimensional representations of $A$. The reductive group ${\rm GL}_\beta(\mathbb{K}):= \prod_{i \in Q_0}{\rm GL}_{\beta_i}(\mathbb{K})$ acts on $\mathcal{C}$ by change of basis, and has a unique closed orbit. We consider the corresponding ring of semi-invariants ${\rm SI}(Q, \mathcal{C})$. We prove that if $\mathcal{C}$ is factorial and has maximal orbits of codimension one, then ${\rm SI}(Q, \mathcal{C})$ is a complete intersection and is not multiplicity free. If $\mathcal{C}$ is not factorial, then this conclusion does not necessarily hold. We present examples showing that the codimension of the complete intersection can be arbitrarily large. Finally, we interpret our results in the case of hereditary algebras.

Abstract:Suppose R is a local ring with invariants p,n,r,m,k and mr=4, that is R of order p4. Then, R=R0+uR0+vR0+wR0 has maximal ideal J=uR0+vR0+wR0 of order p(m−1)r and a residue field F of order pr, where R0=GR(pn,r) is the coefficient subring of R. In this article, the goal is to improve the understanding of linear codes over small-order non-chain rings. In particular, we produce the MacWilliams formulas and generator matrices for linear codes of length N over R. In order to accomplish that, we first list all such rings up to isomorphism for different values of p,n,r,m,k. Furthermore, we fully describe the lattice of ideals in R and their orders. Next, for linear codes C over R, we compute the generator matrices and MacWilliams identities, as shown by numerical examples. Given that non-chain rings are not principal ideals rings, it is crucial to acknowledge the difficulties that arise while studying linear codes over them.

Abstract:Let (R=mathbb {Z}_{4}+umathbb {Z}_{4}) be a finite non-chain ring, where u2 = 1. In this paper, we consider (σ, δ)-skew quasi-cyclic codes over the ring R, where σ is an automorphism of R and δ is an inner σ-derivation of R. We determine the structure of 1-generator (σ, δ)-skew quasi-cyclic codes over R and give a sufficient condition for 1-generator (σ, δ)-skew quasi-cyclic codes over R to be free. We also determine a distance bound for free 1-generator (σ, δ)-skew quasi-cyclic codes. Moreover, using the residue codes of these codes over R we obtain some good (mathbb {Z}_{4})-linear codes. Finally, we give the characterization of Euclidean dual codes of (σ, δ)-skew quasi-cyclic codes.

Abstract:The rings $Z_{4}+\nu Z_{4}$ have been classified into chain rings and non-chain rings on the basis of the values of $\nu^{2} \in Z_{4}+\nu Z_{4}.$ In this paper, the structure of cyclic codes of arbitrary length over the rings $Z_{4}+\nu Z_{4}$ for those values of $\nu^{2}$ for which these are non-chain rings has been established. A unique form of generators of these codes has also been obtained. Further, rank and cardinality of these codes have been established by finding minimal spanning sets for these codes.

Abstract:Quasi-polycyclic (QP for short) codes over a finite chain ring $R$ are a generalization of quasi-cyclic codes, and these codes can be viewed as an $R[x]$-submodule of $\mathcal{R}_m^{\ell}$, where $\mathcal{R}_m:= R[x]/\langle f\rangle$, and $f$ is a monic polynomial of degree $m$ over $R$. If $f$ factors uniquely into monic and coprime basic irreducibles, then their algebraic structure allow us to characterize the generator polynomials and the minimal generating sets of 1-generator QP codes as $R$-modules. In addition, we also determine the parity check polynomials for these codes by using the strong Gröbner bases. In particular, via Magma system, some quaternary codes with new parameters are derived from these 1-generator QP codes.

Abstract:We study the quotient Qi(A) of a free algebra A by the ideal Mi(A) generated by the ith commutator of any elements. In particular, we completely describe such quotient for i=4 (for i⩽3 this was done previously by Feigin and Shoikhet). We also study properties of the ideals Mi(A), e.g. when Mi(A)Mj(A) is contained in Mi+j−1(A) (by a result of Gupta and Levin, it is always contained in Mi+j−2(A)).

Abstract:In this paper, we are interested in right (resp., left) quasi-polycyclic (QP) codes of length with an associated vector , which are a generalization of quasi-cyclic codes (QC) and quasi-twisted (QT) codes. They are defined as invariant subspaces of by the right (resp., left) QP operator (resp., ). A correspondence between the right (resp., left) -QP codes and the linear codes of length over the ring (resp., , ) is given. This correspondence leads to some basic characterizations of these codes such as generator and parity check polynomials. Moreover, we also discuss the structure of the 1-generator QP codes, and we prove BCH-like and the Hartmann–Tzeng-like bounds on the minimum distance of QP codes. Finally, we give examples of new quantum codes derived from QP codes as an application of some of the results. Several of these codes are MDS.

Polycyclic codes over serial rings and their annihilator CSS construction

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the algebraic structure for polycyclic codes over a specific class of serial rings, defined as $\mathscr R=R[x_1,\ldots, x_s]/\langle t_1(x_1),\ldots, t_s(x_s) \rangle$, where $R$ is a chain ring and each $t_i(x_i)$ in $R[x_i]$ for $i\in\{1,\ldots, s\}$ is a monic square-free polynomial. We define quasi-$s$-dimensional polycyclic codes and establish an $R$-isomorphism between these codes and polycyclic codes over $\mathscr R$. We provide necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of annihilator self-dual, annihilator self-orthogonal, annihilator linear complementary dual, and annihilator dual-containing polycyclic codes over this class of rings. We also establish the CSS construction for annihilator dual-preserving polycyclic codes over the chain ring $R$ and use this construction to derive quantum codes from polycyclic codes over $\mathscr{R}$.

For this purpose, we use the classical construction via splittings and multipliers of the underlying Abelian group. We also derive some results on the structure of the associated polyadic codes and the number of codes under these conditions.

Abstract:This article studies the ring structure arising from products of idempotents and nilpotents. Thus the argument is concerned essentially with the one-sided IQNN property of rings. We first prove that if the $2$ by $2$ full matrix ring over a principal ideal domain $F$ of characteristic zero is right IQNN then $F$ contains infinitely many non-integer rational numbers; and that the concepts of right IQNN and right quasi-Abelian are independent of each other. We next introduce a ring property, called {\it right IAN}, as a generalization of both right IQNN and right quasi-Abelian; and provide several kinds of methods to construct right IAN rings. In the procedure, we also show that the right IQNN and right IAN do not go up to polynomial rings.

Abstract:The rings Z4+νZ4 have been classified into chain rings and nonchain rings based on the values of ν2∈Z4+νZ4 . In this paper, the structure of a cyclic code of arbitrary length over the rings Z4+νZ4 for those values of ν2 for which these are nonchain rings has been established. A unique form of generators for a cyclic code over these rings has also been obtained. Furthermore, the rank and cardinality of a cyclic code over these rings have been established by finding a minimal spanning set for the code.
