Abstract:In this paper we derive a relative volume comparison of Ricci flow under a certain local curvature condition. It is a refinement of Perelman's no local collapsing theorem in Perelman (2002).

Abstract:We prove some reverse Laplacian comparison and relative volume comparison results under the situation where one has an integral bound for the part of the Ricci curvature which lies above a prescribed continuous function of the distance parameter. These extend parts of results of Ding (Chin Ann Math Ser B 15(1):35–42, 1994) and Kura (Proc Jpn Acad Ser A Math Sci 78(1):7–9, 2002) from pointwise Ricci curvature to integral Ricci curvature.

Abstract:We show that for certain locally collapsing initial data with Ricci curvature bounded below, one could start the Ricci flow for a definite period of time. This provides a Ricci flow smoothing tool, with which we find topological conditions that detect the collapsing infranil fiber bundles over controlled Riemannian orbifolds among those locally collapsing regions with Ricci curvature bounded below. In the appendix, we also provide a local distance distortion estimate for certain Ricci flows with collapsing initial data.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the volume comparison theorem related to $\sigma_2$-curvature. In particular, we show that volume comparison theorem with respect to $\sigma_2$-curvature holds for metrics close to strictly stable positive Einstein metrics. By applying similar techniques, we derive the local rigidity theorem for strictly stable Ricci flat manifolds with respect to $\sigma_2$-curvature, which shows it admits no metric with positive $\sigma_2$-curvature near strictly stable Ricci-flat metrics.

Abstract:We study curvature pinching estimates of Ricci flow on complete 3- dimensional manifolds without bounded curvature assumption. We will derive some general curvature conditions which are preserved on any complete solution of 3-dim Ricci flow, these conditions include nonnegative Ricci curvature and sectional curvature as special cases. A local version of Hamilton-Ivey estimates is also obtained.

Abstract:In this paper we investigate a kind of generalized Ricci flow which possesses a gradient form. We study the monotonicity of the given function under the generalized Ricci flow and prove that the related system of partial differential equations are strictly and uniformly parabolic. Based on this, we show that the generalized Ricci flow defined on a $n$-dimensional compact Riemannian manifold admits a unique short-time smooth solution. Moreover, we also derive the evolution equations for the curvatures, which play an important role in our future study.

Abstract:In this article, we prove a local Sobolev inequality for complete Ricci flows. Our main result is that the local $\nu$-functional of a disk on a Ricci flow depends only on the Nash entropy based at the center of the disk, and consequently depends only on the volume of the disk. Furthermore, we introduce some applications of this local Sobolev inequality. These applications reveal the way in which the local geometry evolves along Ricci flow. In particular, we show that several classical theorems related to Perelman's monotonicity formula can be derived from our results.

Abstract:In \cite{FGP}, Fei, Guo and Phong established a criteria for the long-time existence of their parabolic flow from $11$-dimensional supergravity, which involves Riemannian curvatures ${\rm Rm}(g(t))$ and 4-forms $F(t)$. In this paper, we obtain a new criteria for the long-time existence of the same flow, which involves only Ricci curvatures ${\rm Ric}(g(t))$, $F(t)$, but as well as $\nabla_{g(t)}F(t)$.

A Discrete Ricci Flow on Surfaces with Hyperbolic Background Geometry

Abstract:In this article, we generalize our results in [6] to triangulated surfaces with hyperbolic background geometry, which means that all triangles can be embedded in the standard hyperbolic space. We introduce a new discrete Gauss curvature by dividing the classical discrete Gauss curvature by an area element, which could be taken as the area of the hyperbolic disk packed at each vertex. We prove that the corresponding discrete Ricci flow with a nonpositive prescribing curvature function converges if and only if the prescribing curvature function is admissible. In the special case that the prescribing curvature function is zero, this provides another characterization of Thurston's circle packing theorem. In the case of zero prescribing curvature function, we further prove that the flow converges to a zero curvature metric if the initial curvatures are all nonpositive. Note that, this result does not require the existence of zero curvature metric or Thurston's combinatorial-topological condition. We further generalize the definition of combinatorial curvature to any given area element and prove the equivalence between the admissibility of a nonpositive prescribing curvature function and the convergence of the corresponding flow.

Abstract:Let ${\bf M}$ be a compact Riemannian manifold and the metrics $g=g(t)$ evolve by the Ricci flow. We prove the following result. The Sobolev imbedding by Aubin or Hebey, perturbed by a scalar curvature term and modulo sharpness of constants, holds uniformly for $({\bf M}, g(t))$ for all time if the Ricci flow exists for all time; and if the Ricci flow develops a singularity in finite time, then the same Sobolev imbedding holds uniformly after a standard normalization. As a consequence, long time non-collapsing results are derived, which improve Perelman's local non-collapsing results. An application to 3-d Ricci flow with surgery is also presented.
Gap Theorem on Riemannian manifolds using Ricci flow

Abstract:In this work, we use the Ricci flow approach to study the gap phenomenon of Riemannian manifolds with non-negative curvature and sub-critical scaling invariant curvature decay. The first main result is a quantitative Ricci flow existence theory without non-collapsing assumption. We use it to show that complete non-compact manifolds with non-negative complex sectional curvature and sufficiently small average curvature decay are necessarily flat. The second main result concerns three-manifolds with non-negative Ricci curvature of quadratic decay. By combining our newly established curvature estimate and method in Kähler geometry, we show that if the curvature decays slightly faster even in average sense, the manifold must be flat. This strengthens a result of Reiris. In the compact case, we use the Ricci flow regularization to generalize the celebrated Gromov-Ruh Theorem in this direction.

Abstract:In this work, we extend the existence theory of non-collapsed Ricci flows from point-wise curvature lower bound to Kato-type curvature lower bound. As an application, we prove that any compact three-dimensional non-collapsed strong Kato limit space is homeomorphic to a smooth manifold. Moreover, similar result also holds in higher dimension under stronger curvature condition. We also use the Ricci flow smoothing to study stability problem in scalar curvature geometry.

Abstract:In this paper, using the local Ricci flow, we prove the shorttime existence of the Ricci flow on noncompact manifolds, whose Ri cci curvature has global lower bound and sectional curvature has only loca l average integral bound. The short-time existence of the Ricci flow on noncompa ct manifolds was studied by Wan-Xiong Shi in 1990s, who required a point-w ise bound of curvature tensors. As a corollary of our main theorem, we get the short-time existence part of Shi’s theorem in this more general context. W e getC0 curvature estimates for the local Ricci flow by using so called “local lo cal” curvature estimates and Moser iteration. And in an appendix we give the first detailed proof of the short-time existence of the local Ricci flow.

Abstract:In this paper, we establish a new volume comparison theorem for a complete manifold with a function $\rho(x)$ as the lower bound of the Bakry-Emery Ricci curvature. As applications, we obtain a new volume rigidity result of the gradient Ricci almost solitons. Furthermore, we extend the results of Cao and Zhou \cite{CZ} to shrinking gradient Ricci almost solitons and get the rigidity result with respect to the maximal volume growth.

Abstract:In this note, we will prove that given a sequence of Ricci flows. (M-k, g(k)(t)) of dimension n, t is an element of [-1, 0], with Ricci curvature bounded below uniformly and volume non-collapsing, (M-k, g(k) (0)) converge as a sequence of manifolds to a limit length space(X, d). The regular part of (X, d)must be open and the convergence is of C-1,C-alpha regularity. As a corollary of this result, we prove that in dimension 3, a Ricci flow can always extend unless either its Ricci curvature goes to -infinity or it shrinks to a point.

Abstract:We develop a theory of Ricci flow for metrics on Courant algebroids which unifies and extends the analytic theory of various geometric flows, yielding a general tool for constructing solutions to supergravity equations. We prove short time existence and uniqueness of solutions on compact manifolds, in turn showing that the Courant isometry group is preserved by the flow. We show a scalar curvature monotonicity formula and prove that generalized Ricci flow is a gradient flow, extending fundamental works of Hamilton and Perelman. Using these we show a convergence result for certain nonsingular solutions to generalized Ricci flow.
