Abstract:We prove some reverse Laplacian comparison and relative volume comparison results under the situation where one has an integral bound for the part of the Ricci curvature which lies above a prescribed continuous function of the distance parameter. These extend parts of results of Ding (Chin Ann Math Ser B 15(1):35–42, 1994) and Kura (Proc Jpn Acad Ser A Math Sci 78(1):7–9, 2002) from pointwise Ricci curvature to integral Ricci curvature.

Abstract:In this note, we provide a very simple proof of the uniformization theorem of Riemann surfaces by Ricci flow. The argument builds on a refinement of Hamilton's isoperimetric estimate for the Ricci flow on the two-sphere.

Abstract:We sharpen a gap theorem of Chan & Lee for nonnegative Ricci curvature manifolds that have positive asymptotic volume ratio and small enough scale-invariant integral curvature (so-called "curvature concentration"), by showing that the curvature concentration need only depend linearly on the asymptotic volume ratio. We prove the result by exhibiting a long-time Ricci flow solution with faster than $1/t$ curvature decay, which allows us to shift the limiting contradiction argument to time infinity and thus obtain an explicit bound on the size of the gap.

Abstract:In this article, we generalize our results in [6] to triangulated surfaces with hyperbolic background geometry, which means that all triangles can be embedded in the standard hyperbolic space. We introduce a new discrete Gauss curvature by dividing the classical discrete Gauss curvature by an area element, which could be taken as the area of the hyperbolic disk packed at each vertex. We prove that the corresponding discrete Ricci flow with a nonpositive prescribing curvature function converges if and only if the prescribing curvature function is admissible. In the special case that the prescribing curvature function is zero, this provides another characterization of Thurston's circle packing theorem. In the case of zero prescribing curvature function, we further prove that the flow converges to a zero curvature metric if the initial curvatures are all nonpositive. Note that, this result does not require the existence of zero curvature metric or Thurston's combinatorial-topological condition. We further generalize the definition of combinatorial curvature to any given area element and prove the equivalence between the admissibility of a nonpositive prescribing curvature function and the convergence of the corresponding flow.
Gap Theorem on Riemannian manifolds using Ricci flow

Abstract:In this work, we use the Ricci flow approach to study the gap phenomenon of Riemannian manifolds with non-negative curvature and sub-critical scaling invariant curvature decay. The first main result is a quantitative Ricci flow existence theory without non-collapsing assumption. We use it to show that complete non-compact manifolds with non-negative complex sectional curvature and sufficiently small average curvature decay are necessarily flat. The second main result concerns three-manifolds with non-negative Ricci curvature of quadratic decay. By combining our newly established curvature estimate and method in Kähler geometry, we show that if the curvature decays slightly faster even in average sense, the manifold must be flat. This strengthens a result of Reiris. In the compact case, we use the Ricci flow regularization to generalize the celebrated Gromov-Ruh Theorem in this direction.

Abstract:We obtain sharp quantitative Laplacian upper and lower estimates under no assumption on curvatures. As a result, we derive quantitative Laplacian, area and volume comparison theorems for tubes in Riemannian and Kähler manifolds under weak integral curvature assumptions. We also give some applications, such as a general Bonnet-Myers theorem and Cheng's eigenvalue estimate under weak integral curvature assumptions.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the behavior of Ricci flows on compact orbifolds with finite singularities. We show that Perelman's pseudolocality theorem also holds on orbifold Ricci flow. Using this property, we obtain a weak compactness theorem of Ricci flows on orbifolds under some natural technical conditions. This generalizes the corresponding theorem on manifolds. As an application, we can use K\"ahler Ricci flow to find new K\"ahler Einstein metrics on some orbifold Fano surfaces. For example, if $Y$ is a cubic surface with only one ordinary double point or $Y$ is an orbifold Fano surface with degree 1 and every singularity on it is a rational double point of type $\A_k (1 \leq k \leq 6)$, then we can find a KE metric of $Y$ by running K\"ahler Ricci flow.

Abstract:In this paper, we refine a sharp inequality established by Fontana (Comment. Math. Helvetici 68:415–454, 1993 ). Precisely, for any compact Riemannian manifold without boundary, there exists a uniform constant depending on positive lower bound of the injectivity radius, upper bound of the diameter, and bounds of the curvature tensor and its covariant derivatives such that Fontana’s inequality holds. Also we establish an analog on oriented compact Riemannian manifold with smooth boundary. Though our method is based on the argument of L. Fontana and thereby closely on that of Adams (Ann. Math. 128:385–398, 1988 ), some technical difficulties must be smoothed. For the first problem, we need a uniform elliptic estimate on manifolds; While for the second problem, we use the Green function for a larger manifold with boundary to represent functions supported in the original one.

Abstract:In this paper we obtain a gap theorem for the Ricci curvature over complete noncompact locally conformally flat manifolds. We prove that if the Ricci curvature is nonnegative and decays faster than quadratic at infinity, then the manifold is flat.

Abstract:In this work, we extend the existence theory of non-collapsed Ricci flows from point-wise curvature lower bound to Kato-type lower bound. As an application, we prove that compact three dimensional non-collapsed strong Kato limit space is homeomorphic to a smooth manifold. The result also holds in higher dimension under uniform strong Kato lower bound of 1-isotropic curvature. We also use the Ricci flow smoothing to study stability problem in scalar curvature geometry.

Abstract:In this work we establish a sharp geometric inequality for closed hypersurfaces in complete noncompact Riemannian manifolds with asymptotically nonnegative curvature using standard comparison methods in Riemannian Geometry. These methods have been applied in a recent work by Xiaodong Wang to greatly simplify the proof of a Willmore-type inequality in complete noncompact Riemannian manifolds of nonnegative Ricci curvature, which was first proved by Agostiniani, Fagagnolo and Mazzieri.

Abstract:We show that the analogue of Hamilton's Ricci flow in the combinatorial setting produces solutions which converge exponentially fast to Thurston's circle packing on surfaces. As a consequence, a new proof of Thurston's existence of circle packing theorem is obtained. As another consequence, Ricci flow suggests a new algorithm to find circle packings.

Abstract:Let ${\bf M}$ be a compact Riemannian manifold and the metrics $g=g(t)$ evolve by the Ricci flow. We prove the following result. The Sobolev imbedding by Aubin or Hebey, perturbed by a scalar curvature term and modulo sharpness of constants, holds uniformly for $({\bf M}, g(t))$ for all time if the Ricci flow exists for all time; and if the Ricci flow develops a singularity in finite time, then the same Sobolev imbedding holds uniformly after a standard normalization. As a consequence, long time non-collapsing results are derived, which improve Perelman's local non-collapsing results. An application to 3-d Ricci flow with surgery is also presented.
A direct approach to sharp Li-Yau Estimates on closed manifolds with negative Ricci lower bound

Abstract:Recently, Qi S.Zhang [26] has derived a sharp Li-Yau estimate for positive solutions of the heat equation on closed Riemannian manifolds with the Ricci curvature bounded below by a negative constant. The proof is based on an integral iteration argument which utilizes Hamilton's gradient estimate, heat kernel Gaussian bounds and parabolic Harnack inequality. In this paper, we show that the sharp Li-Yau estimate can actually be obtained directly following the classical maximum principle argument, which simplifies the proof in [26]. In addition, we apply the same idea to the heat and conjugate heat equations under the Ricci flow and prove some Li-Yau type estimates with optimal coefficients.

Abstract:We announce a new proof of the uniform estimate on the curvature of solutions to the Ricci flow on a compact Kähler manifold $M^n$ with positive bisectional curvature. In contrast to the recent work of X. Chen and G. Tian, our proof of the uniform estimate does not rely on the exsitence of Kähler-Einstein metrics on $M^n$, but instead on the first author's Harnack inequality for the Kähler-Ricc flow, and a very recent local injectivity radius estimate of Perelman for the Ricci flow.
