Abstract:Utilizing unconventional water for sustainable agriculture is a multi‐criteria process. Decision‐making in such problems is based on finding the value of various criteria using advanced methods, for example the analytic network process (ANP). ANP is usually preferred in cases where the criteria are not independent and have intra‐/intergroup relationships. Considering techno‐economic and environmental criteria, the ANP structure was used in this study to investigate the feasibility of utilizing Chapaghli drainage water in western Golestan Province, Iran, for cultivating tolerant and semi‐tolerant crops, including canola, barley, cotton and wheat, using GIS software. Irrigation water availability, techno‐economic distance and land suitability for cultivation were selected as techno‐economic criteria, while irrigation water quality, soil, plant sensitivity and aquifer vulnerability were selected as environmental criteria. The results show that canola is the best crop for cultivation with Chapaghli drainage water. This study provides a reliable decision‐making infrastructure related to the recycling of drainage water for various cultivars in an area where environmental hazards are minimized. Résumé L'utilisation de l'eau non conventionnelle pour une agriculture durable est un processus multi‐critères. La prise de décision dans de tels problèmes est basée sur la détermination de la valeur de divers critères à l'aide de méthodes avancées, par exemple le processus de réseau analytique (ANP). L'ANP est généralement préféré dans les cas où les critères ne sont pas indépendants et ont des relations intra‐/intergroupes. En tenant compte de critères technico‐économiques et environnementaux, la structure du ANP a été utilisée dans cette étude pour étudier la faisabilité de l'utilisation de l'eau de drainage de Chapaghli dans l'ouest de la Province du Golestan occidental, en Iran, pour cultiver des cultures tolérantes et semi‐tolérantes, y compris le canola, l'orge, le coton et le blé, à l'aide du logiciel SIG. La disponibilité de l'eau d'irrigation, la distance technico‐économique et l'aptitude des terres à la culture ont été choisis comme critères technico‐économiques, tandis que la qualité de l'eau d'irrigation, le sol, la sensibilité des plantes et la vulnérabilité des aquifères ont été choisis comme critères environnementaux. Les résultats montrent que le canola est la meilleure culture à cultiver avec l'eau de drainage de Chapaghli. Cette étude fournit une infrastructure de prise de décision fiable liée au recyclage des eaux de drainage pour divers cultivars dans une région où les risques environnementaux sont minimisés.
