Abstract:This work demonstrates the experimental generation of tunable dual-wavelength in millimeter-waves (mmW) to realize 5G communication applications. The experimentally designed laser is a ring-cavity laser based on a nonlinear polarization rotation (NPR) as shown in Fig. 1 (a) with an erbium-doped fiber and high birefringence fiber. By controlling the laser-cavity birefringence, the output spectrum of the proposed laser is tuned successfully to generate a tunable dual-wavelength from 0.1-0.89 nm, as shown in Fig. 1 (b), that corresponding to mmW waves ranging from 12.5 GHz to 110 GHz as shown in Fig. 1 (c). The designed laser output shows a good power uniformity with power fluctuations of 0.32 dB and generates a stabile mmW of ≈ 56 GHz with wavelength fluctuations of 0.03 over an observation period of 60 minutes in the interval of 5 minutes [1].
