Abstract:Background Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) may impair patients‘ health-related quality of life (HRQOL) and impose burdens on caregivers. We aim to survey HRQOL including demographic characteristics of IBD patients and to evaluate the disease-related perception of their caregivers in East China. Methods Patients above 18 years old with established Crohn’s disease (CD) or ulcerative colitis (UC) from 5 medical centres in East China between December 2016 and July 2017 were enrolled. Patients‘ detailed demographic and clinical information were documented. Demographic data of the investigated regions were extracted from China Population and Employment Statistics Yearbook 2016 for comparison. Patients‘ HRQOL was assessed by short IBD questionnaire (SIBDQ) and patient-reported 0–10 score (IBD-10). The major caregiver of each patient was surveyed by IBD-10 to estimate patient‘s condition from caregiver’s viewpoint. Results A total of 601 IBD patients were included in this study. The proportion of post-secondary school education (51.4% vs 28.1%, p<0.0001) and the unemployment rate (31.8% vs 2.9%–4.0%, p<0.0001) was significantly higher in IBD cohort than in general population. Patients in active phase had remarkably lower SIBDQ and IBD-10 scores than those in remission, meanwhile, the scores declined along with the illness severity (table 1). Long disease duration, illness activity, unemployment and corticosteroid treatment were risk factors for poor HRQOL while high BMI provided a protective effect. There was a strong positive correlation between IBD-10 scores of patients and their caregivers (figure 1). Conclusions Higher educational attainment and unemployment rate exist among IBD patients in East China. Patients‘ HRQOL declines and correlates with multiple negative factors. Caregivers may form similar disease-related perception just as patients do.

The relationship between self-efficacy, health literacy, and quality of life in patients with chronic diseases: a cross-sectional study in China

Abstract:Background: Self-efficacy and health literacy are closely related to the quality of life in patients with chronic diseases; however, it remains unclear whether their combined effects on the quality of life (QoL) in these patients operate through mediation, interaction, or a combination of both. Methods: The research occurred in China between July 10 and September 15, 2021. A multi-stage random sampling technique was utilized to gather information on self-efficacy, health literacy, and QoL among individuals with chronic diseases. Linear regression models investigated the relationships between these patients' self-efficacy, health literacy, and QoL. Additionally, the four-way decomposition method was used to decompose the overall effects of self-efficacy and health literacy on the QoL in patients with chronic diseases. Results: Significant correlations were found between self-efficacy, health literacy, and QoL among individuals with chronic diseases (all p < 0.05). In the four-way decomposition results, the results of the European Quality of Life Five Dimension Five Level (EQ-5D-5L) displayed the interaction effects mediated by self-efficacy, and the reference interaction effects were not significant, with small effect sizes observed. The influence of health literacy levels on the QoL in these patients was primarily attributed to the controlled direct effect (CDE), accounting for approximately 86.12% [excess relative risk = 0.00415; 95% CI: 0.00326, 0.00504; p < 0.0001]. The proportion solely attributable to the pure indirect effect (PIE) of self-efficacy was 14.5% [excess relative risk = 0.0007; 95% CI: 0.00031, 0.00109; p < 0.0001]. In the EQ visual analog scale (EQ-VAS) results, the proportion of the controlled direct effect was 84.9% [excess relative risk = 0.62443; 95% CI: 0.52269, 0.72618; p < 0.0001], while the proportion solely attributable to the pure indirect effect of mediation was 14.8% [excess relative risk = 0.10876; 95% CI: 0.06409, 0.15344; p < 0.0001]. Conclusion: Self-efficacy and health literacy primarily influence QoL in patients with chronic diseases through controlled and pure indirect effects. Enhancing patients' health literacy and self-efficacy can contribute to improving their QoL.

Abstract:Objective To evaluate the quality of life of people of the clinical physical examination and analyze the influencing factors at QOL of the people of clinical physical examination.Methods Professional doctor or nurse helped examinees to finish QWB table and noted general information including gender,age,marriage status,profession status, and inhabitancy.The quality of life of examinees was evaluated.The total score,average score,score of four departments were accounted and the influencing factors at QOL of the people of clinical physical examination as gender,age,situ- ation of marriage,culture level,profession and inhabitancy were analyzed. Results The scores of 5 scales of the QWB in people of the clinical physical examination were as follows.Total score:0.8766000±0.1240000; MOD:-0.0007920±-0.009720;PAC:-0.0007012±-0.006586;AC:-0.0004268±-0.005493;CPX: -0.1215000±-0.121500.Univariate analysis of QWB in people of the clinical physical examination:the scores of MOB,PAC,SAC,CPX,W of QWB were not significant change between the male and female;the scores of CPX,W of QWB were significant change with the age increased,but PAC,SAC,CPX were not;the scores of SAC of QWB were significant improvement at marriage and single hood;the scores of PAC,CPX,W of QWB were significant higher in people with higher education level;the scores of SAC,CPX,W of QWB were significant higher in peoples who lived in city or town.Conclusion The score of QWB in people of the clinical physical examination was 0.8766000,which was higher than the score of norm abroad.The influence factors of QWB were age,marital status,education level,profession and inhabitancy.

[An Epidemiological and Quality of Life Study of Irritable Bowel Syndrome in Zhejiang Province].

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the prevalence and quality of life (QOL)on irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) patients in Zhejiang province, and to evaluate the applying of Chinese version of the SF-36 questionnaire on IBS.METHODS:From Jan 2001 through Jan 2002, IBS patients from city, island, countryside and suburban in 10 hospitals in Zhejiang province were recruited to the study. 662 Roma II criteria-positive IBS patients completed the demographic checklists, symptoms questionnaire and QOL by Chinese version of the SF-36. We compared the demographic characteristics of IBS with the general population in Zhejiang province. The previously reported SF-36 (Chinese vision) data in general population were considered normative QOL.RESULTS:(1) Male to female was 0.89:1. Compared with general population, IBS was more common in female (P < 0.05), adults in 25 - 50 years old (P < 0.001), and among high educated and cadres samples (P < 0.001). (2) The dominant symptoms in IBS included the change of stool formation (79.1%), abnormal of processing of stool (67.9%), abdominal pain (67.7%), abdominal distention (63.2%) and mucous stool (49.8%). Besides colonic symptoms, IBS can cause generalized body discomfort and psychosocial problems. (3) IBS patients experienced significant impairment in QOL. Decrements are most pronounced in vitality, general health, mental health and bodily pain scales. (4) Compared with the general population in Hangzhou city (adjusted to gender and age), IBS patients scored significantly lower on all SF-36 scales (P < 0.001), with the exception of physical function scale. There was a significant correlation between symptom scores and all 8 SF-36 scales.CONCLUSIONS:The prevalence of IBS had a close correlation with sex, age, education and profession. IBS patients experience significant impairment in QOL. The Chinese version of the SF-36 Health Survey Scales may be a useful measurement of IBS patients. These data offer further insight into epidemiology and the impact of IBS on patient functional status and well-being of Chinese.

Abstract:Objective: To analyze the current research status, hotspots, and frontiers in the field of Gastrointestinal (GI) cancer and quality of life (QoL) through the bibliometrics method, and to provide references and guidance for future research. Methods: Literature related to GI cancer and QoL from April 1, 2003 to March 31, 2023 was retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database. CiteSpace 6.2.R1 was performed for collaboration analysis, keyword co-occurrence analysis, and document co-citation analysis. Results: A total of 1224 publications were included in this study. There has been a significant increase in the number of publications in this field over the past two decades. The United States, the Karolinska Institute and the University of Amsterdam, and Pernilla Lagergren are the most prolific country, institution, and author, respectively. The links between most of the research constituents were relatively thin (centrality <0.1). The keyword analysis indicates that the benefits of physical activity on QoL, the levels of psychological distress and its relationship with QoL, as well as the development and validation of QoL measurement tools have been the research hotspots. Open-label/double-blind trials exploring therapeutic interventions and more targeted new drugs or more effective drug combinations, and longitudinal studies determining the direction of the association between psychological distress and QoL at different time points, may be emerging trends in this field. Conclusion: The cooperation among countries, institutions, and authors in this field should be strengthened. In addition, the health benefits of light physical activity, interventions for QoL, trajectory and direction of the relationship between psychological distress and QoL may be the focus of future research.
Investigation on the quality of life and its influential factors of the residents in certain community of Shanghai city

Abstract:[Objective] To study the status of the quality of life of the people in certain community,and investigate its influential factors,especially people with chronic diseases. [Methods] 1 201 people in the community were investigated by questionnaires,and SF-36 was used to survey their quality of life. [Results] The prevalence rate of chronic diseases in the community were 54.6%,the quality of life of people with chronic disease was lower than that of general people.The main factors that influenced the quality of life were age,marriage status,economic status,quality of sleep,and so on. [Conclusion] Chronic diseases decrease the quality of life.Comprehensive measures should be taken to improve the quality of life of the people with chronic diseases in the community.

Correlation Analysis between Anxiety and Depression and Quality of Life in Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis

Abstract:Objective:To analyze the relationship between anxiety and depression and quality of life(QOL) in patients with rheumatoid arthritis(RA) in order to direct clinical treatment and improve QOL of the patients.Methods: The scale of QOL,the self-rating anxiety scale(SAS) and the self-rating depression scale(SDS) were used to assess anxiety and depression of 136 patients with RA and analyze the QOL.Results: In 136 patients with RA,standard scores of SAS and SDS were 47.18±8.69 and 52.35±11.31 respectively,significantly higher than national norms(P<0.01).The prevalence rates of anxiety and depression were 36.76% and 61.76% respectively.The SAS and SDS standard scores were positively correlated with arthralgia,arthrocele,arthr-tenderness,physiological function,social function and perceptual ability with health by one's own(P<0.01 or P<0.05).Conclusion: Patients with RA have anxiety and depression to some extent,and depression is predominant.There is correlation between anxiety and depression and QOL,suggesting the decreased QOL is the important factor causing the anxiety and depression.

Abstract:Chronic otitis media is a common condition in otology, which mainly manifests as repeated purulence, hearing loss, eardrum perforation and other discomforts. It often causes adverse impacts on the health and quality of life of patients. In the past, the assessment of symptoms and prognosis of chronic otitis media was limited to objective examinations such as audiometry or ear endoscopy, while patients' subjective feelings about the disease were ignored. This study reviewed the content, characteristics and current clinical application of quality of life scales for chronic otitis media, with the aim of providing a basis for the selection of quality of life scales for chronic otitis media.

Abstract:AIM: To acknowledge researches on quality of life of Chinese patients with asthma. METHODS: CNKI was retrieved for literatures about the life of quality of patients with asthma published between January 1991 and December 2005 in China. The character of literatures, applied scales, contents of research and setting as well as the Department of author were analyzed. RESULTS: ①A total of 55 literatures were collected including 43 articles, 11 reviews and one from expert forum.②Chinese scale of asthma-related quality of life was adopted for 36 times, and abroad scale of asthma-related quality of life was used for 15 times. The non-special scale abroad was used for 11 times. The internal non-special scale was used for 4 times.③Fifteen papers were about the effects of therapeutic measures on quality of life, and 12 literatures were about the effects of education and management on patients' quality of life. The scales of asthma-related quality of life was instituted, evaluated or compared in 13 articles, and there were 3 others. CONCLUSION: ①Since 1991, literatures on asthma-related quality of life at domestic are much, which indicate that the clinical doctors has accustomed the transformation of medical model and begin to pay more attention to the psychological status and passion of patients as well as the social function.②The scale of asthma has been applied in most of the literatures.
Association between periodontal disease and coronary heart disease: A bibliometric analysis

Abstract:Background: Periodontal disease and coronary heart disease are both prevalent diseases worldwide and cause patients physical and mental suffering and a global burden. Recent studies have suggested a link between periodontal disease and coronary heart disease, but there is less research in this field from the perspective of bibliometrics. Objective: This study aimed to quantitatively analyze the literature on periodontal disease and coronary heart disease to summarize intellectual bases, research hotspots, and emerging trends and pave the way for future research. Methods: The Science Citation Index Expanded database was used to retrieve study records on periodontal disease and coronary heart disease from 1993 to 2022. After manual screening, the data were used for cooperative network analysis (including countries/regions, institutions and authors), keyword analysis, and reference co-citation analysis by CiteSpace software. Microsoft Excel 2019 was applied for curve fitting of annual trend in publications and citations. Results: A total of 580 studies were included in the analysis. The number of publications and citations in this field has shown an upward trend over the past 30 years. There was less direct collaboration among authors and institutions in this field but closer collaboration between countries. The United States was the country with the most published articles in this field (169/580, 29.14%). Based on the results of keyword analysis and literature co-citation analysis, C-reactive protein, oral flora, atherosclerosis, infection, and inflammation were previous research hotspots, while global burden and cardiovascular outcomes were considered emerging trends in this field. Conclusion: Studies on periodontal disease and coronary heart disease, which have attracted the attention of an increasing number of researchers, have been successfully analyzed using bibliometrics and visualization techniques. This paper will help scholars better understand the dynamic evolution of periodontal disease and coronary heart disease and point out the direction for future research. Clinical significance: This paper presents an overview between periodontal disease and coronary heart disease. Further exploration of the two diseases themselves and the potential causal relationship between the two is necessary and relevant, which may impact basic research, diagnosis, and treatment related to both diseases. This will aid the work of researchers and specialist doctors, and ultimately benefit patients with both diseases.
Analysis of quality of life status quo of community patients with stable coronary heart disease and its influencing factors

Abstract:Objective:To probe into the quality of life status quo of community patients with stable coronary heart disease and its influencing factors.Methods:A total of 133 community patients with stable coronary heart disease received investigation by using the general quality of life table for Chinese people(QOL 35).Results:The score of quality of life of community patients with stable coronary heart disease was(66.63±10.76),the scores was lower than the normal models in fields of general quality of health and life,independent life ability, physiological function,psychological function,social function and quality of life change(P<0.05 or P<0.01). The multiple regression analysis showed that the age,family per capita monthly income,spouses,the number of diseases,smoking,intervention treatment were the influencing factors of quality of life among community pa-tients with stable coronary heart disease.Conclusion:The quality of life among community patients with stable coronary heart disease was significantly decreased,and it was influenced by many factors,so the targeted meas-ures should be taken to improve patients’quality of life status quo.
A Bibliometric Mapping Study of the Literature on Oral Health-related Quality of Life

Abstract:Background: Oral health is an indispensable component of overall health, and oral health status significantly influences people's physical, mental, and social well-being. Oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL), an important and widely used dental patient-reported outcome (dPRO), is attracting more and more researchers' attention and interest. This study aimed to analyze and map the existing scientific literature regarding OHRQoL through a bibliometric approach, including a summary of the characteristics of OHRQoL-related publications, the identification of prolific entities, high-frequency keywords analysis, and research trend analysis via periodic high-impact keywords. Methods: A literature search was conducted in the Web of Science Core Collection to collect OHRQoL-related original research and review articles. After examination and deduplication, the following bibliometric information was extracted from each article: title, abstract, keywords, authors, affiliations, geographic origin (countries/regions), year of publication, journal name, and references. Various scientometric mapping tools including Microsoft Office spreadsheet, VOSviewer, Biblioshiny R-package software, and Scimago Graphica were used to analyze basic bibliometric parameters, leading producers, high-impact keywords, and research trends. Results: A total of 3324 OHRQoL-related articles (3119 original research articles and 205 review papers) were collected, which received 65,704 citations. A total of 9950 authors from 2429 organizations contributed to this body of research. Prolific authors from Europe, USA, Brazil, New Zealand, China, and Canada were identified, and they also centered collaboration clusters in the co-author network. Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology was the most prolific journal. Twenty-one keywords with more than 200 occurrences, and 23 keywords with more than 150 occurrences, were identified for publications of 1994-2021 and 2012-2021, respectively. Keyword analysis revealed hot topics such as instrument development and validation, studies targeting children and adolescents, as well as clinical studies in operative dentistry, implantology, orthodontics, and community dentistry. Oral Health Impact Profile is the most commonly used instrument in OHRQoL-related research. Conclusions: OHRQoL is an impactful topic in dental health care as it is not only useful in dental research and patient-centered clinical outcome measures but also provides valuable guidance in dental public health administration and policy making. OHRQoL-related research presents a dynamic landscape and is expected to continue presenting high productivity and broad application in the future.
Assessing Health-Related Quality of Life in Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease in Zhejiang, China.

Abstract:AIMS The aim of this study was to assess health-related quality of life in patients with inflammatory bowel disease in Zhejiang, Mainland China. BACKGROUND The incidence of inflammatory bowel disease in China is believed to be low but has been increasing in the past decade. The quality of life of Chinese patients with inflammatory bowel disease is unknown. DESIGN A cross-sectional study. METHODS The study was conducted in 92 patients with inflammatory bowel disease in Zhejiang, China, 52 with ulcerative colitis and 40 with Crohn's disease. Health-related quality of life was measured by the Chinese version of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Questionnaire and Short Form-36, respectively. Disease activity was assessed by the Walmsley and Harvey-Bradshaw simple indices for ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease, respectively. Demographic and clinical variables were also recorded. Short Form-36 data from the study sample were compared with a reference population of 1688 Chinese people residing in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China. RESULTS No significant health-related quality of life differences were found between patients with ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease (p > 0.05). Pooled data showed that inflammatory bowel disease patients with active disease had significantly lower scores for all eight dimensions of Short Form-36 compared to those in remission (p < 0.01); those with active disease scored significantly lower than population norms in all dimensions of Short Form-36 except mental health (p < 0.05); whereas those in remission scored significantly lower than population norms in role physical (p < 0.01) and general health dimensions (p < 0.05). The regression analyses identified only disease activity index and employment status to explain variations in health-related quality of life (p < 0.01). CONCLUSIONS Inflammatory bowel disease similarly impairs health-related quality of life in patients with both ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE The results suggest that any interventions that produce a stable clinical remission, whether medical or surgical, allowing patients to return to their usual work position can decrease the disease impact on their daily lives.

Abstract:Objective To analyze the Quality of Life influenced by chronic diseases.Methods Self-management method was applied to fill in the SF-36 to assess the quality of life of 505 in-patients with 6 kinds of chronic diseases respectively.Results To compare with general people in Sichuan province,most of domains of the quality of life in patients with chronic diseases were significant decrease (P0.05),especially PR,GH,and RE.Covariance analysis controlled by sex and age showed that except the domain of PR,most of domains of the quality of life had significant differences among patients with different chronic diseases of the six(P0.01).Conclusion Different measures should be used to improve patients′ quality of life in treating different chronic diseases.It is necessary to make a set of referent values of quality of life in different geographic areas and populations in order to study the quality of life of different groups of people.

Quality of Life and its Influencing Factors in Urban Elderly Patients with Chronic Diseases

Abstract:Objective: To analyze and discuss the quality of life of elderly patients with chronic diseases and its influencing factors. The aim of this study was to provide a theoretical basis for targeted intervention of influencing factors of chronic diseases and improvement of the quality of life of patients. Methods: A total of 1000 elderly patients with chronic diseases in our health center were randomly selected as the study subject. Questionnaire survey was conducted by self-designed questionnaire. The SF-36 quality of life scale was used to evaluate their quality of life; and linear regression model was used to explore the relevant influencing factors. Result: The SF-36 score showed that there was a correlation between the six dimensions, including overall health, physiological function, somatic pain, vitality, social function and mental health, and the number of chronic diseases in elderly patients. With the increase of chronic diseases, the scores of each dimension showed a downward trend. Linear regression analysis showed that age, anxiety and poor sleep quality were the main factors affecting the quality of life in elderly patients with chronic diseases. Conclusion: The quality of life of elderly patients with chronic diseases in our city is poor. In community work, targeted nursing and intervention should be given according to the types of diseases suffered by the elderly.
The quality of life in patients with chronic peptic ulcer and its influence factors

Abstract:Objective To analyze the quality of life and its influence factors in patients with peptic ulcer.Methods The SF-36 was used to survery 120 patients with peptic ulcer.The QOL scores at different levels of some factors including gender,age,na-tionality,occupation,marriage,medical forms,economic,cultural level,treatment method and clinical type were compared by meth-ods of two sample t-test and analysis of variance.Results Peptic ulcer patients′scores in the domain of RE,PF,RP,BP,GH,VT, SF,RE,PCS and MCS are lower than that of the normal,exception of the domain of MH(P <0.05).The differences were statisti-cally significant.Six factors can be influenced some domain or total score of the scale(P <0.05)and the differences were statistical-ly significant.Conclusion Find out the influencing factors on peptic ulcer patients′quality of life can be provided the basis for clini-cal treatments.

Abstract:Objective:to investigate quality of life(QOL) in patient seeking examination and treatment for AIDS in Shanghai,under the Chinese cultural background.Methods:Participant observation was used to study QOL of 118 patient seeking examination and treatment for AIDS in Shanghai,combined with In-depth interview.Results:The QOL of AIDS patients unfolds as four aspects,including mental health,physical health,relationship and social environment,all of which are below average for these patients.Conclusion:In order to improve the QOL of AIDS patients,we need to increase the penetration rate of AIDS-related knowledge,set up professional psychological counseling clinics for AIDS patients,strive to eliminate discrimination,and improve the social health insurance system.
