Abstract:Many educators have recognized how nursery rhymes can be used in classrooms to nurture the cognitive, physical, social, emotional, and music development of children. In the elementary music classroom, nursery rhymes can be used to foster a playful and engaging music learning environment, and prompt interdisciplinary learning opportunities. The vast repertoire of nursery rhymes from all over the world enables music educators to be conscientious and creative practitioners.

Abstract:تعد مرحلة رياض الأطفال من اهم المراحل التي يمر بها الانسان حيث ان في هذه المرحلة يتم وضع البذور الاجتماعية والأخلاقية التي تتناسب مع المجتمع حيث أنه يتم وضع الأساس لتکوين الکثير من الميول والاتجاهات الإيجابية لطفل الروضه. ويهدف هذا البحث إلي : تنمية القيم الاجتماعية لطفل الروضه وذلک من خلال أناشيد مبتکره(کلمات ولحن) تقدمها الباحثة وذلک من خلال برنامج مقترح قائم علي تلک الأناشيد حيث يقدم کل نشيد قيمه اجتماعية کالود والاحترام بين الأصدقاء والجيران والالتزام بالأداب أثناء الزيارات، وإحترام أفراد الأسره ومن هم أکبر بالعمر، وغرس الشعور بالإنتماء للوطن، والالتزام بالسلوکيات الصحيحه عند تناول الطعام . وينقسم هذا البحث إلي جزئين : الجزء الأول ويشمل الدراسات السابقه والاطار النظري المرتبط بموضوع البحث( أطفال الروضه، فلسفة رياض الأطفال، القيم الاجتماعية، ومظاهر النمو الاجتماعي لطف الروضه،وغيرها....) الجزء الثاني :الجزء التطبيقي ويشمل (إجراءات البحث، التوصيات،النتائج ، المراجع، الملاحق ،وملخص البحث) Nursery education is one of the most pivotal stages in children's life through which the foundations of their society's values and social norms are being laid shaping lots of their positive attitudes. The current research is aimed at developing some of the social values of the nursery's child throughout a proposed programme based upon novel rhymes, incorporating both lyrics and melodies, developed and taught by the researcher. Each one of these lyrics presents a special social value such as a sense of belonging to homeland, common courtesy in visiting, intimacy and respect between family members, friends, neighbours and elders, and proper etiquette of eating and drinking. This research is divided into two parts incorporating a theoretical part encompassing a review of literature and related studies and an empirical one encompassing procedures,results, recommendations, references, and appendices.

Abstract:The contribution focuses on the effectiveness of nursery rhymes, music, and storytelling in early childhood education. Various research studies carried out over the past twenty years have demostrated the way in which the use of rhythm, music, and storytelling can facilitate the development of a child’s overall personality. This study examines the impact of incorporating silent books into early childhood education to enhance a child’s language skills, social interaction, and cognitive development. Over the course of one month, teachers assessed the progress of young children in various domains, including vocabulary acquisition, narrative fluency, and peer interaction. The results highlight the importance of providing diverse opportunities for play with stories, images, and music in supporting holistic development in young children. By integrating these rich experiences into early education practices, educators can effectively nurture linguistic, social, and emotional competencies, laying a solid foundation for lifelong learning and growth.

Abstract:Most children like and enjoy singing songs. It can be used as one of materials for foreign language learning. Using nursery rhymes in the classroom can be a great break from following a set curriculum . This study aims to know the way to acquaint English to young learners through nursery rhymes, to identify the criteria of nursery rhymes that suits on the students, and to know the strengths and challenges in acquainting English to young learners through nursery rhymes at Playgroup. Qualitative research was employed to conduct this study. To collect the data, some techniques were carried out namely observation, interview, and documentation. The results revealed that the acquaintance of young learners English through nursery rhymes considers the content; students’ readiness, and class atmosphere, the nursery rhymes must teach the character education; the strengths in acquainting English to young learners through nursery rhymes at Halimatus Sa’diyah playgroup are the commitment among the manager/organizers, teachers and parents and the high awareness that English is important. And, the challenges are low teacher’s pedagogical competency, facilities, curriculum/material, and non-English school or living environment.

Abstract:This research identifies themes emerging from a children's writing task, where they wrote about good things they noticed in nature over a five day period. Eighty four children aged nine to eleven participated, resulting in 847 written statements. Content analysis using an emergent coding approach identified ten themes, with "Active Animals" being the most frequently occurring theme. Combining the themes with Author (2017a, b, c) pathways to nature connection provides an extended framework to inform children's activity programmes, design of school grounds and urban spaces, aiming to connect children with nature. Future research could extend the framework into a practitioner's tool kit.

Abstract:Children from eleven PGCE partnership schools participated in a poetry writing competition. In writing a poem entitled An English Lesson they have provided an insight into what they experience in the English classroom. The poems, published in‐house as an anthology, have been analysed using the key concepts of the National Curriculum for English (QCA, 2007) – competence; creativity; cultural understanding; and critical understanding. This article accompanies some of the children’s poems.
Stylistic Analysis of Selected Primary School Nursery Rhymes and Implications on Pupils’ Reading Comprehension

Abstract:This study carried out a stylistic analysis of primary school nursery rhymes and their implications on reading skills of pupils. The study utilized descriptive research design where five nursery rhymes were randomly selected from a nursery rhyme textbook. The selected nursery rhymes were based on the popularity of the rhymes among the primary school children. The data obtained from the study was analyzed stylistically using the levels of stylistic analysis which include graphology, phonology, lexical and syntactic levels. Findings demonstrate that all the words choice in nursery rhymes is deliberately simpler so that the readers may understand the theme and the message of the rhymes. The rhymes are often based on simple shorter sentences, although long sentences can occur as well. Based on the age of the children, information is presented in a simple manner. The stings of sentences are not too long for the children to comprehend and the phrases and sentences are logically linked together to create a cohesive and perfect rhythm. The occurrence of rhyming especially end rhymes facilitate children’s learning faculty as they are reading the rhymes through the repetition of similar sounding words at the ending of a verse or line. This creates a mnemonic situation in which it is easier for the readers to memorise their reading through smooth and pleasurable reading experience.

Abstract:An aspect of childhood experience which may be universal is the recitation and enjoyment of traditional rhymes and games. Common threads can be traced in the themes, rhythmic repetition and types of activity found in examples of traditional games and rhymes from Great Britain, Nigeria and Uganda. Examples are given of hand‐games, circle‐games, number‐games, tongue‐twisters and other rhymes which are enjoyed by children in these three widely separated countries. Abstract:Children's minds love, admire, and cherish the songs that the mind enjoys and the heart wants to protect. All the thoughts expressed through songs are deeply rooted in the minds of children. Grown-up adults have imprinted the songs they heard in their childhood as engraved in a green tree. That is why songs occupy a prime position in children's literature. In today's society, which is showing initiatives in economic search, parents who spend time with their children have become less. Mobile phones have taken over the beautiful pastimes of children. As a result, apart from affecting children's physical health and mental health, an environment is created in which they grow up as a socially irresponsible generation. If this situation needs to be changed, children should be given an opportunity to understand the society in which they live from their childhood. Children's songs provide such an opportunity. Children's songs teach personal life, love for other living beings around us, and responsibility towards society. This article emphasises the need to put such valuable works of children's songs into the hands of children and identifies the children's songs that do the work of raising responsible children.

Abstract:We present how we have created a series of bilingual (English and Welsh) STEM activities focusing on rainbows, colours, light and optical effects. The activities were motivated by the many rainbows that appeared in windows in the UK, in support of the National Health Service at the start of the coronavirus pandemic. Rainbows are hopeful and are very fitting to be used as a positive iconic image at a time of much uncertainty. In this paper we explain how we have developed and organised the activities, focusing on colours, computer graphics and computer programming. Each lesson contains one or more activities, which enable people to take an active role in their learning. We have carefully prepared and organised several processes to guide academic colleagues to create and publish different activities in the theme. Which means that the activities appear similarly structured, can be categorised and searched in a consistent way. This structure can act as a blueprint for others to follow and apply to develop their own online course. The activities incrementally take people through learning about colour, rainbows, planning what to program, design and strategies to create colourful pictures using simple computer graphics principles based in <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://processing.org" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a>.

English Translation of Traditional Chinese Poetry to Nursery Rhymes

Abstract:A large linguistic distance exists between spoken Arabic and the Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) the literary language (a diglosia). Novice readers, therefore, struggle with the complex orthography of Arabic as well as the mastering of MSA. Here, we tested whether structured activities in MSA would advance kindergarteners' MSA aptitude by the end of the school year. We examined two issues: (a) whether reciting nursery rhymes in MSA would be more effective in promoting language and preliteracy skills in kindergarteners compared to listening to the same texts, and (b) whether there are additional advantages for using texts directly referring to the alphabet. Thus, 136 kindergarteners (Mage = 5:6; 61 girls), all native speakers of Arabic and with middle-low socioeconomic background, were assigned to a 10-session (2 months) program in 1 of 4 intervention conditions wherein nursery rhymes related/not related to the alphabet, were either repeatedly recited or listened to. The achievements of children in the intervention conditions were compared to those of peers that were given nonlinguistic activity of similar length (control). The four intervention groups improved their performance at the postintervention assessment in all tests of MSA aptitude and outperformed the control group in receptive and expressive vocabulary and listening comprehension. Also, the reciting groups were better than the control and listening groups in tests assessing vocabulary and morpho-syntactic sensitivity. Our results highlight the contribution of structured interventions based on rhyme repetition to MSA proficiency of kindergarteners. Moreover, the results suggest that reciting may be superior to listening in advancing language proficiency in preschoolers. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2020 APA, all rights reserved).

Abstract:The progressive educational systems of some regions of Italy are becoming increasingly recognized by educators and researchers seeking insight into diverse educational approaches from the international community. This article represents a case study of Filastrocca (“Nursery Rhyme”), a preschool in the Tuscan city of Pistoia. Filastrocca proclaims a special mission related to books, storytelling, and the imagination and appears to offer a unique environment that supports children's active and enthusiastic engagement in complex literacy discussions and activities. This article provides a detailed description of the learning environment for language and literacy at the preschool, presents an analysis of issues/themes, and offers assertions and reflections. There is an emphasis on exploring what kinds of opportunities related to books, storytelling, and the imagination support and encourage young children and their families, and in examining how the learning environment reflects the mission of the school in fostering early childhood language and literacy.

Abstract:The call to raise UK educational standards has a focus on the underachievement of pupils attending schools in challenging socioeconomic circumstances. Research suggests that music can have a significant role in developing children's phonological awareness, language and future reading ability. Many generalist primary school teachers feel that they do not have the confidence or pedagogical knowledge required to teach music in a way that engages and stretches pupils. Student teachers may not, therefore, have the opportunity to observe good practice or to teach music whilst on placement. A teacher educator carried out an action research project using discursive group and individual interviews. The aim was to improve understanding of how to support student teachers in developing confidence and competence to teach music in the early years. Undertaken as part of Hope Challenge, a project that brings together a university Initial Teacher Education programme and primary schools in challenging circumstances, the action research consisted of a cycle of enactment involving the teacher educator, student teachers and class teacher in modelling, reflecting and acting. This action research approach played a crucial role in developing confidence, pedagogical knowledge and enthusiasm for teaching music and offers a model for future teacher professional development.
Rehearsals in Citizenship: BBC Stop‐Motion Animation Programmes For Young Children

Abstract:This essay argues that BBC stop‐motion animations for under‐fives reflect changes in British culture and citizenship over the second half of the twentieth century, and can be regarded as rehearsals in citizenship. This argument is considered in the context of debates about the BBC’s ethos in relation to British democracy, culture and citizenship 1922–1999, and previous studies of children’s programmes. The earlier 1967–1969 programmes—Trumpton and Chigley—represent a citizenship operating in relation to a structured, protective social state, defined by a national boundary, while the later 1998–2001 Bob the Builder is consistent with the globalisation of the late‐twentieth century, in which a communitarian, privatised citizenship is characterised by individualism and personal autonomy, with their attendant risks. Young children are rehearsed in configurations of citizenship through narrative strategies and modes of audience address. This essay demonstrates that the representations of disciplinary mechanisms and citizenship closely conform to Foucauldian theory as developed by Foucault (1980, 1991) and Rose (1999a, 1999b). The essay argues that greater academic attention should be devoted to texts for young children, and that Foucauldian theory should be developed to allow space for the study of children as agents and vehicles of governmentality.

Abstract:This research aims to identify Neleng Neng Kung nursery rhyme from the perspective of a child's well being. Child well-being is currently facing threats due to several factors, mainly the crisis of dominant values from modernization (identically to the westernization). Adding to the factor is the change in the current Western dominance in science and knowledge. In the child well-being context, each ethnic group has childcare traditions, specifically for nursery rhymes. Various studies have touched on this subject, but none of them relate to child well-being. Therefore, this study aims to cover the relation of Neleng Neng Kung as a nursery rhyme with child well being. This research uses the Norman Fairclough model of Critical Discourse Analysis, which includes three steps: description, interpretation, and explanation, and the UNICEF framework for child well being. The conclusion shows that the local wisdom covers a part of the child well-being framework and centers well-being to social relations. Physical and intellectual aspects must be guided by social ones. Abstract:This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of using nursery rhymes as media in increasing English vocabulary and self-confidence in children aged 4-5 years at Tutor Time Kindergarten, an Early Childhood Education (PAUD) school. Five English nursery rhymes are used to teach vocabulary to children. This study also examines the increase in children's confidence in singing and speaking English in public. This research method is an experiment with the control group and the treatment group. The results showed that the use of nursery rhymes as media was effective in increasing English vocabulary in children aged 4-5 years. Children in the treatment group showed a significant increase in understanding and using new vocabulary after participating in song learning. In addition, this study also revealed that there was an increase in children's confidence in singing and speaking English in public after they were involved in learning to use these songs. The use of nursery rhymes as media is an effective approach in increasing English vocabulary and self-confidence of early childhood at Tutor Time Kindergarten. These results have important implications for the development of fun and interactive learning methods in the PAUD environment to facilitate children's language development and confidence in English.
