Abstract:These Ti − x La ( x = 0, 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7, 0.9 wt.%) samples were prepared by a vacuum suspension melting furnace. Subsequently, the microstructure, comprehensive mechanical properties, and electrical conductivity of these samples were systematically investigated. The results revealed that the incorporation of La element into pure titanium significantly impacted its mechanical and electrical properties. Specifically, it was observed that the titanium with 0.5 wt.% La exhibited a remarkable elongation of 47.5%, while with the lowest recorded values for tensile strength and resistivity (ultimate tensile strength: 343.3 MPa; resistivity: 0.468 μΩ m). When compared to pure titanium without La, the resistivity is reduced by 5.8%, ultimate tensile strength is reduced by 18.1%, and elongation is increased by 97.9%. These changes can be primarily attributed to the interaction of La with impurity atoms in the lattice structure during the melting process, leading to the formation of various phases such as La 2 O 3 , (La, Fe) phase, and pure La particles at the grain boundaries. Importantly, the volume fraction of these phases varies depending on the concentration of added La. Additionally, the refining effect of La on grain size was observed. The grain size decreasing from 271.7 to 157.4 μm with the addition of 0.5 wt.% La, indicating a reduction of 42.1%.
