Abstract:Oral squamous cell carcinoma in minors is considered to be a distinct entity from OSCC in older patients, with an uncertain etiology. Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection may trigger the initiation and promote the progression of OSCC, but these roles have not been firmly established. We aimed to explore the correlation between HPV infection and the development of oral squamous cell carcinoma in minors and know the characteristics of OSCC in young patients more thoroughly.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The paper aims to explore the association between human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and the incidence of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) in minors, and to gain a deeper understanding of the characteristics of OSCC in young patients. Specifically, the researchers hope to investigate the role of HPV in OSCC among minors by detecting high-risk HPV mRNA infection and the expression of the immunohistochemical marker p16. Additionally, the paper reviews the literature on OSCC in patients under 21 years old to further analyze the clinical features, treatment, and prognosis of this rare condition.
