Abstract:Objective To compare visual quality after implantation of either a multifocal toric intraocular lens (IOL) or a monofocal toric IOL.Methods This retrospective case-control study was comprised of 32 eyes of 27 patients with more than 1.0 D of preexisting corneal astigmatism.Ten eyes of 8 patients were implanted with Acrysof IQ Restor toric IOLs (SND1T group) and the other 22 eyes of 19 patients were implanted with Acrysof IQ toric IOLs (SN6AT group).Uncorrected (UDVA)and corrected (CDVA) distance visual acuities,uncorrected (UNVA) and corrected (CNVA) near visual acuities,residual astigmatism,IOL rotation,contrast sensitivity (CS),modulation transfer functions (MTF) and total eye wavefront aberrations were evaluated for 6 months postoperatively.Data were analyzed using an independent-samples t test and repeated-measures ANOVA.Results The UNVA in the SND1T group was better than that in the SN6AT group at the postoperative time points (t=11.683,8.252,7.384,P＜0.01).At 6 months postoperatively,the CS with glare at low spatial frequencies (3 c/d) in the SND1T group was significantly lower than that in the SN6AT group (t=2.086,P＜0.05).MTFs were significantly lower in the SND1T group than that in the SN6AT group with 3-mm pupils at middle spatial frequencies (5,10 c/d) (t=2.050,2.078,P＜0.05).There were no statistically significant differences in UDVA,CDVA and CNVA throughout the postoperative time points between the 2 groups.At 6 months postoperatively,the difference in corneal astigmatism between preoperative and postoperative measurements,the mean IOL axis rotation,CS without glare and with glare at residual spatial frequencies,MTF with 3-mm pupils at medium and high spatial frequencies and with 5-mm pupils at all spatial frequencies,total eye wavefront aberrations,total higher-order aberrations,spherical aberrations and coma under 3-and 5-mm pupils were not statistically significant between the 2 groups.Conclusion Compared with the monofocal toric IOL,the multifocal toric IOL can provide excellent overall visual acuity,effective astigmatic correction and favorable visual quality.

Abstract:Background: To compare the visual outcomes and optical quality of patients who underwent bilateral implantation of EDOF (AcrySof® IQ Vivity IOL, DFT015) for mini-monovision, trifocal (AcrySof® IQ PanOptix, TNFT00), or monofocal (AcrySof® IQ IOL, SN60WF) IOL. Methods: The monocular-corrected and uncorrected distance visual acuities (CDVA and UDVA, respectively) were evaluated postoperatively at 1 and 3 months. The binocular visual acuity by distance, the binocular defocus curve, contrast sensitivity, and patient satisfaction were examined 3 months postoperatively. All patients were asked to complete questionnaires regarding their satisfaction, visual symptoms, and spectacle dependency. Results: This study included 178 eyes from 89 patients. The postoperative binocular UDVA did not differ significantly among the three groups. In the defocus curve, the Vivity group showed better visual acuity over a range of far and intermediate (60 cm) than the other two IOLs groups. In near-vision, the PanOptix group showed the best near-vision, and the Vivity group showed significantly better vision than the IQ group. The Vivity group showed contrast sensitivity and optical quality comparable to the IQ group. Conclusions: The bilateral implantation of AcrySof® IQ Vivity IOL with the mini-monovision approach provided excellent distance and intermediate visual acuity with good near-vision, resulting in high satisfaction.

Abstract:An enhanced monofocal intraocular lenses (IOLs) (Tecnis Eyhance ICB00 and Tecnis Eyhance Toric DIU) has been developed to enhance intermediate vision while avoiding the disadvantages of multifocal IOLs. Although many studies have demonstrated the improvement of intermediate visual acuity with enhanced monofocal IOLs, it is not known specifically for which patients these IOLs should be recommended or avoided. In this study, we aim to find out which ocular parameters affect vision performance and photic phenomenon of ICB00 or DIU at different distances.

Abstract:The purpose is to compare the outcomes of implantation of trifocal intraocular lenses (TIOLs) and extended depth of focus (EDOF) intraocular lenses (IOLs).A comprehensive search of PubMed, Cochrane Library, EMBASE, and ClinicalTrial.gov was conducted in March 2020 to identify relevant studies. A meta-analysis of the results was performed. Patients implanted with EDOF IOLs or TIOLs in previous studies were included. The primary outcomes of the study were uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), uncorrected intermediate visual acuity (UIVA), uncorrected near visual acuity (UNVA), and defocus curve.TIOLs and EDOF IOLs provided comparable binocular UDVA (MD = -0.01, 95% CI: -0.04, 0.03, logMAR). However, EDOF IOLs provided better UIVA (MD: -0.08, 95% CI: -0.14, -0.01, logMAR) and worse UNVA (MD: 0.10, 95% CI: 0.06, 0.14, logMAR) than TIOLs. Fewer patients achieved spectacle independence after implantation of EDOF IOLs (RR: 0.74, 95% CI: 0.63, 0.87) than after implantation of TIOLs, especially for near vision (RR = 0.82, 95% CI: 0.68, 0.99). There was no statistically significant difference in contrast sensitivity (CS) under photopic or mesopic conditions with both IOLs. Patient satisfaction after implantation of both IOLs was high.EDOF IOLs and TIOLs provide comparable distance vision. However, EDOF IOLs provide better intermediate vision and worse near vision than TIOLs. The advantages of EDOF IOLs over TIOLs in terms of CS, aberrations, and visual disturbance are not significant. Patients are satisfied with both types of IOLs.

Abstract:Objective Objective To evaluate the clinical results and rotational stability of AcrySof Toric intraocular lens (IOLs), and the impact of three measurements of keratometry on the results of astigmatism correction. Methods This prospective study included 23 eyes of 20 patients having cataract surgery. The IOL was calculated randomly using the results of automatic refractor, corneal topography or IOL Mastor. Implantation of the toric IOL was performed. The uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA),best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), residual refractive cylinders, residual keratometry, and toric IOL axis were measured. And the differences of three measurements were analyzed. Results The UCVAs were 0.69±0.16 and BCVAs were 0.83±0.15 at 3 months follow-up. The mean refractive cylinder decreased significantly after surgery from 3.23 D to 0.59 D. The pre-surgical and post-surgical keratometry and corneal astigmatism showed no statistical difference. By analyzing the differrence from the post-surgical to the aimed residual astigmatism, there was no significant difference among these three measurements. Conclusions The results indicate that AcrySof toric IOL showed good clinical results and rotational stability. Automatic measurements of keratometry have no significant impact on its correction of astigmatism.

Abstract:European Journal of Ophthalmology, Ahead of Print. PurposeThis study aims to compare the 3-month clinical outcomes between two enhanced monofocal intraocular lenses (IOLs) following cataract surgery.Setting: Eye Clinic of Careggi University Hospital, Florence, Italy.DesignSingle-center prospective study.MethodsWe included patients with cataract and corneal astigmatism less than 0.75 D, with no ocular comorbidities, who underwent unilateral cataract surgery with implantation of either the Tecnis Eyhance ICB00 (N = 25) or Evolux (N = 25) IOLs. Standard cataract procedures were performed without complications. The main outcome measures included uncorrected and corrected visual acuity at distance (4 m), intermediate (60 cm) and near (40 cm) at 3-month follow-up. Additionally, monocular defocus curves, aberrometric profiles, and perceptions of halo and glare were evaluated.ResultsThe study involved 50 patients (26 male, 24 female) with a mean age of 68 ± 8 years. Preoperative characteristics were similar between the groups, and no intraoperative or postoperative complications were reported. Statistically significant differences were observed between the groups, with the Evolux IOL showing superior results (p < 0.05) in terms of uncorrected and corrected visual acuity at near, intermediate, and distance, as well as in aberrometric profiles (lower-order aberration root-mean-square [RMS], higher-order aberration RMS, spherical equivalent RMS, and point spread function) and defocus curves.ConclusionsBased on our experience, while both IOLs offer substantial visual performance for intermediate and distance vision, the Evolux IOL demonstrated superior mean visual outcomes and objective parameters at the 3-month follow-up compared to the Tecnis Eyhance IOL. This indicates a potential advantage of the Evolux IOL in providing better visual performance.

Visual outcomes and optical quality after implantation of a diffractive multifocal toric intraocular lens

Abstract:Background: This study evaluated the visual function after implantation of a multifocal toric intraocular lenses (IOLs). Materials and methods: This study involved 10 eyes from eight cataract patients with corneal astigmatism of 1.0 diopter (D) or higher who had received phacoemulsification with implantation of an AcrySof IQ ReSTOR Toric IOL. Six-month evaluations included visual acuity, spherical equivalent (SE), defocus curve, residual astigmatism, IOL rotation, contrast sensitivity (CS), wavefront aberrations, modulation transfer function (MTF), and patient satisfaction assessments. Results: At 6 months postoperatively, uncorrected distance visual acuity (logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution) was 0.09 ± 0.04, corrected distance visual acuity was 0.02 ± 0.11, and uncorrected near visual acuity was 0.12 ± 0.07. The mean SE was -0.095 ± 0.394 D (±0.50 D in 90%). Refractive astigmatism at the 6-month follow-up visit was significantly reduced to 0.35 ± 0.32 D from 1.50 ± 0.41 D presurgery (P < 0.05). The mean IOL axis rotation was 3.20 ± 1.55°. Postoperative CS levels were high. Postoperative total order aberrations (TOAs), lower-order aberrations (LOAs), higher-order aberrations (HOAs), and spherical aberrations were decreased compared with preoperative values (P < 0.05). At 3 months postoperatively, TOAs, LOAs, and HOAs with a 3 mm pupil diameter as well as TOAs, LOAs, and astigmatism aberrations with a 5 mm pupil diameter were statistically lower than those at 1-month post surgery, but without subsequent significant changes (P > 0.05). There was an increase in MTF results between preoperative and postoperative evaluations at all spatial frequencies. Conclusions: The diffractive multifocal toric IOL is able to provide a predictable astigmatic correction with apparently outstanding levels of optical quality after implantation.

Abstract:Purpose: To evaluate visual outcomes at different distances (near, intermediate, and far), depth of focus, optical quality, quantitative dysphotopsia, and patient satisfaction in two groups. Methods: The extended depth of focus (EDOF) only group (n = 40 eyes) was implanted bilaterally with an EDOF intraocular lens (IOL) and the mixed group (n = 40 eyes) was implanted with the same EDOF IOL in the dominant eye and a trifocal IOL in the fellow eye. At the 3-month postoperative visit, refractive outcomes and monocular and binocular uncorrected (UDVA) and corrected (CDVA) distance visual acuities for far UDVA, CDVA, distance-corrected intermediate visual acuity (DCIVA) at 80 cm, uncorrected near visual acuity (UNVA), distance-corrected near visual acuity (DCNVA) at 40 cm, and binocular defocus curve were evaluated. Results: The mean spherical equivalent (SE) 3 months postoperatively was -0.16 ± 0.41 diopters (D) in the EDOF only group and -0.39 ± 0.63 D in the mixed group. In the EDOF only group, binocular visual acuities were: UDVA = -0.04 ± 0.07 logMAR (20/18); CDVA = -0.04 ± 0.06 logMAR (20/18); DCIVA (80 cm) = 0.07 ± 0.19 logMAR (20/23); DCNVA (40 cm) = 0.32 ± 0.15 logMAR (20/42); and UNVA (40 cm) = 0.24 ± 0.17 logMAR (20/35). In the mixed group, binocular visual acuities were: UDVA = 0.03 ± 0.09 logMAR (20/21) (P = .08); CDVA = -0.01 ± 0.07 logMAR (20/20) (P = .25); DCIVA (80 cm) = 0.24 ± 0.23 logMAR (20/35) (P = .08); DCNVA (40 cm) = 0.19 ± 0.07 logMAR (20/31) (P = .03); and UNVA (40 cm) = 0.18 ± 0.10 logMAR (20/30) (P = .37). Conclusions: Effective restoration of visual acuity was demonstrated in both groups, with high levels of visual quality and patient satisfaction. Postoperative visual quality comparative study of spherical and aspheric astigmatism type of intraocular lens implantation

Abstract:Objective To compare the visual quality after spherical(Acrysof Toric IOL,SN60TT)and aspheric(Acrysof IQ Toric IOL,SN6AT)astigmatism type of intraocular lens implantation.Methods Fifty-five eyes of 52 patients with cataract were divided into two groups:the observation group of 21 patients(23 eyes)received the AcrySof IQ Toric IOL implantation,and the control group of 31 cases(32 eyes) received the AcrySof Toric IOL implantation.The postoperative uncorrected visual acuity,best corrected visual acuity contrast sensitivity wavefront aberration were examined.Results There was no statistical difference in uncorrected visual acuity and best corrected visual acuity at postoperative 1 week,1 month,3 months between two groups(all P>0.05).The preoperative corneal astigmatism of observation group and control group were(2.236±1.249)D and(2.393±1.320)D,respectively which at postoperative 3 months were(0.394±0.242)D and(0.537±0.286)D,respectively, there were statistical differences between pre-operation and post-operation of two groups(all P<0.05)but there was no statistical difference in pre-operation and postoperation between two groups(all P>0.05).Three months after operation,the contrast sensitivity of the observation group in the night with glare or not was higher than the control group,the difference was statistically significance(all P<0.05).The RMS values of 4th-order spherical aberration and total high order aberration in the observation group were lower than those in the control group at 6 mm pupil diameter three months postoperatively,the difference was statistically significant(all P<0.05).The IOL rotation at 1 week,1 month and 3 months postoperatively in the observation group were(3.38±1.91)°,(3.39±1.91)° and(4.24±2.08)°,respectively, which in the control group were(3.57±1.80)°,(3.86±2.20)°and(4.94±1. 85)°,respectively,there was no statistical difference between two groups(all P>0. 05).Conclusion The IQ Toric IOL is effective in astigmatism correction and has good rotational stability.At the same time,it can reduce the spherical aberration,increase contrast sensitivity and improve postoperative visual quality.
Comparison of visual outcomes after non-toric and toric implantable collamer lens V4c for myopia and astigmatism

Abstract:Purpose: To evaluate the visual quality of myopic patients after non-toric versus toric implantable collamer lens (ICL and TICL, respectively) V4c, and to investigate the potential risk factors of postoperative night vision disturbances. Methods: This prospective cohort study included 42 eyes of 21 patients treated with ICL and 46 eyes of 23 patients treated with TICL. Refractive parameters and ocular aberrations were examined before and 6 months after surgery. Subjective quality of vision was scored by a validated questionnaire. Results: The efficacy index at 6 months was 1.14 ± 0.20 for ICL and 1.17 ± 0.16 for TICL; the safety index was 1.20 ± 0.17 for ICL and 1.20 ± 0.19 for TICL. The root mean square of total higher-order aberrations (HOAs) and trefoil was significantly increased, and no statistical differences between groups were detected in HOA changes. Many patients reported haloes (85.7% for ICL and 100% for TICL) and glare (76.2% for ICL and 65.2% for TICL), but most (94.4% for ICL and 95.5% for TICL) were satisfied or very satisfied with visual outcomes. Implantable collamer lens (ICL) toricity was the risk factor for frequency (OR = 2.81, p = 0.01), severity (OR = 3.85, p = 0.003) and bothering effect (OR = 2.89, p = 0.01) of haloes. Conclusions: Implantable collamer lens and TICL provided comparable efficacy, safety and predictability, induced acceptable level of HOAs and achieved high satisfaction in correcting myopia and myopic astigmatism. Although not severe, haloes and glare have a non-negligible prevalence and ICL toricity is a potential risk factor of haloes.

Abstract:AIM: To compare the clinical effects of two brands of Toric intraocular lens used in surgical correction of cataract with corneal astigmatism. METHODS: Totally 35 patients (50 eyes) with corneal astigmatism who underwent ophthalmic surgery from April 2019 to July 2019 were retrospectively analyzed. Among them, 25 eyes of 20 patients were implanted with Rayner 623T, while 25 eyes of 15 patients with Alcon AcrySof Toric intraocular lens (IOL). Three months after surgery, the uncorrected distance visual acuity (UCDVA), best corrected distance visual acuity (BCDVA), residual astigmatism, rotational degree of intraocular lens, contrast sensitivity, objective visual quality and the National Eye Institute 25-Item Visual Function Questionnaire (NEI VFQ-25) scale score were compared. Vector analysis was performed using the Alpins method. RESULTS: The mean postoperative UCDVA and BCDVA (logMAR) in the Rayner group were 0.17±0.20 and 0.08±0.15, respectively (P>0.05), while those in the Alcon group were 0.21±0.16 and 0.10±0.11, respectively (P>0.05). The mean residual astigmatism in the Rayner group was -0.57±0.24 D while that in the Alcon group was -0.50±0.28 D (P>0.05). There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups in IOL rotational stability, vector analysis parameters, contrast sensitivity and objective visual quality (P>0.05). The NEI VFQ-25 scale score was 85.16±5.91 in the Rayner group while it was 82.08±6.16 in the Alcon group (P>0.05). CONCLUSION: The two brands of toric intraocular lens-Rayner 623T and Alcon AcrySof toric show no significant difference in their clinical outcomes.

The NEI VFQ-25 scale score was 85.16±5.91 in the Rayner group while that was 82.08±6.16 in the Alcon group, (P > 0.05). Conclusions The two brands of toric intraocular lens- Rayner 623T and Alcon AcrySof Toric showed no significant difference in their clinical effects.
Binocular Visual Outcomes Comparison of Two Trifocal Intraocular Lenses in High-Myopic Cataract Patients: A 1-Year Multicenter Study

Abstract:PURPOSE: To compare the postoperative visual outcomes and quality of vision obtained with two types of diffractive trifocal intraocular lenses (IOLs) in patients with high-myopic cataracts.DESIGN: Prospective, multi-center, randomized controlled trial.METHODS: Patients with high-myopic cataracts were randomized to binocular implantation of either the TFNT00 (n = 27) or the 839MP (n = 28) trifocal IOLs at three surgery centers in China and were followed-up for 1 year. Postoperative uncorrected distance, intermediate, and near visual acuity (UDVA, UIVA, and UNVA, respectively), and best-corrected distance visual acuity (BCVA) were measured. The defocus curve, high-order aberrations, modulation transfer function curve, Strehl ratio, and reading ability were compared between both groups. The functional vision and incidence of photic phenomena were surveyed using questionnaires.RESULTS: Visual acuity at all ranges of vision was significantly improved in both groups. The TFNT00 group showed superior UIVA to that in the 839MP group (P = 0.013). Reading ability at 40 and 60 cm was similar in both groups (P ≥ 0.05), while the preferred reading distance for near and intermediate were significantly different. The TFNT00 group had a significantly higher mean VF-14 score, lower incidence of photic phenomena, and less posterior capsular opacity than the 839MP group.CONCLUSION: Bilateral implantation of both types of trifocal IOLs in patients with high-myopic cataracts provided good whole-course visual restoration, although recognition of fine Chinese characters remained impeded. As compared to 839MP IOL, TFNT00 IOL resulted in greater patient satisfaction in intermediate activities, with a lower photic phenomena incidence.

Abstract:Purpose: To compare the visual outcomes and optical quality of 2 presbyopia-correcting intraocular lenses (IOLs) with those of a monofocal IOL. Settings: Eye Center, the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University, School of Medicine, Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China. Design: Prospective cohort study. Methods: The study included patients who had cataract surgery and were implanted with a Tecnis Symfony Extended Range of Vision (EROV) IOL (ZXR00), a zonal refractive multifocal IOL (Lentis Comfort LS-313 MF15), or a monofocal IOL (Lentis L-313). Postoperative examinations took place at 1 week, 1 month, and 3 months and included visual acuity at far, intermediate, and near distances, defocus curves, contrast sensitivity, wavefront aberrations, and modulation transfer function (MTF). Patients completed the Visual Function Index questionnaire (VF-14), the Quality of Vision questionnaire (QoV), and a visual quality self-evaluation. Results: One hundred thirteen patients were enrolled. The EROV and multifocal IOLs achieved a significantly better range of intermediate vergences (P < .05), better distance-corrected intermediate visual acuity (P <= .001), higher VF-14 (P < .05) and visual quality self-evaluation scores (P < .05) than the monofocal IOL, but there were no significant differences between the 2 presbyopia-correcting IOLs. The EROV provided lower total wavefront aberrations and better MTF than the multifocal and the monofocal IOLs (P < .05) but demonstrated a worse QoV score (P < .05), especially for severity of halo (P < .01) and starburst (P < .05) symptoms. Conclusions: Both the Tecnis Symfony ZXR00 and the Lentis Comfort LS-313 MF15 offered excellent visual restoration and stable distance and intermediate visual acuity, good subjective visual function, and good contrast sensitivity. Comparative Analysis of Visual Performance and Astigmatism Tolerance with Monofocal, Bifocal, and Extended Depth-of-focus Intraocular Lenses Targeting Slight Myopia

Abstract:Purpose To compare the visual performance and astigmatism tolerance of 3 intraocular lens (IOL) groups: monofocal, bifocal, and extended depth-of-focus (EDOF) IOLs targeting slight myopia. Methods Overall, there were 60 cataract surgery eyes from 60 patients with implantation of a monofocal, bifocal, or EDOF IOL (20 eyes in each IOL group). The EDOF IOLs targeted slight myopia (−0.25 D to −0.75 D). Intragroup comparison of visual acuity, defocus curve, objective optical quality, contrast sensitivity, visual function questionnaire scores, patients' overall satisfaction, and the astigmatism tolerance was performed 3 months after surgery. Results The EDOF group provided equivalently excellent distance visual outcomes (0.06 ± 0.12) as the monofocal (0.06 ± 0.09) and bifocal (0.03 ± 0.09) groups (P=0.554), better intermediate vision than the other 2 groups (P < 0.05), and similarly satisfactory near visual outcomes (0.23 ± 0.16 at 20 cm, and 0.17 ± 0.14 at 33 cm) as the bifocal group (0.28 ± 0.14 at 20 cm and 0.08 ± 0.10 at 33 cm) (P > 0.05). The contrast sensitivity of EDOF IOL was slightly decreased compared to that of monofocal IOL, but it was better than that of bifocal IOL. The EDOF group showed significantly higher satisfaction than the bifocal group did when preoperative corneal astigmatism was 0.75 D or greater (P=0.009). A significant negative correlation between the corneal astigmatism and patient satisfaction was observed in only the bifocal group. Conclusions The EDOF IOLs targeting slight myopia offered satisfactory visual outcomes at an extended range from far to near distances. The EDOF and monofocal IOLs showed a better tolerance to astigmatism than did the bifocal IOL.

Abstract:Purpose To compare intraindividual monocular visual performance of a monofocal EDOF and a trifocal EDOF IOL following bilateral cataract surgery. Design Single-center, prospective, fellow-eye comparison clinical trial. Methods All patients received uneventful bilateral cataract surgery with implantation of the monofocal EDOF Isopure IOL in the dominant eye and the trifocal EDOF FineVision Triumf IOL in the non-dominant eye. Intraindividual monocular comparison included visual acuity at various distances, defocus curves, internal total higher-order aberration (HOA), spherical aberration (SA) Z(4.0), IOL decentration and tilt. Additionally, subjective outcomes were evaluated using Halo and Glare simulation and the VF-7 questionnaire. Results In total, 25 patients (50 eyes) were included. Intraindividual monocular BCDVA, DCIVA, and BCNVA were comparable (p> .05). However, monocular contrast acuity (p= .019), DCNVA (p< .001) and defocus curves at defocus levels of 0.0D (p= .005) and between -1.5 and -4.0D (p< .001) differed significantly. At 5mm, internal HOA and SA Z(4.0) were significantly different (p .05). Conclusion In this combined fellow-eye comparison, near vision was significantly better with the trifocal EDOF IOL. The monofocal EDOF IOL demonstrated similar distance and intermediate visual performance as the trifocal EDOF IOL. Overall, low values of photic phenomena and visual impairment was observed.

Abstract:Purpose: To compare the clinical and aberrometric outcomes obtained with a new diffractive pentafocal intraocular lens (IOL) and a diffractive trifocal IOL. Methods: Patients bilaterally implanted with the pentafocal Intensity SeeLens IOL (Hanita Lenses) (n = 30) and the trifocal FineVision POD F IOL (PhysIOL) (n = 30) during cataract surgery were studied after 1 month for refraction, visual acuity, defocus curve, contrast sensitivity, Hartmann-Shack aberration, and double-pass aberration. The Quality of Vision (QoV) questionnaire was used to evaluate visual comfort. Results: Distance and near visual acuities were similar with the two IOLs, but distance-corrected intermediate visual acuity was better with the Intensity IOLs (0.03 ± 0.04 vs 0.11 ± 0.04 logMAR in the FineVision eyes, P < .01). The difference between objective and subjective refraction was more myopic for the Intensity IOL (-1.15 vs -0.29 diopters [D]). The defocus curve was flatter with the Intensity IOL. Contrast sensitivity was similar in both IOLs. Hartmann-Shack aberration and double-pass aberration were similar, but the modulation transfer function cut-off value was worse with the Intensity IOL: 11.6 ± 2.7 vs 15.3 ± 4.9 (P < .01). QoV scores were better with the Intensity IOL, in particular for glare, halos, and starburst. Conclusions: In this comparative series, the pentafocal Intensity IOL provided better intermediate vision and better defocus curve than the FineVision IOL, with comparable distance and near vision. The optical disturbances as reported by the patients were higher with the FineVision IOL. Additional studies will better define the aberration profile obtained with the pentafocal IOL.
